Pizza night in Destin. Pleasant cashier/order taker on the phone. We were near by, so ordered for pickup. Surprisingly it was done in less than 20 min. Small inside, but dining is possible. We ordered the boneless chicken wings- very good, Combo Supreme and Pollo Bella that was delicious. Combination very unique: chicken , mushrooms and artichoke. The hardest part was trying to decide what to order. Hand tossed crust was a little more crust than what we like, but 1st. time we weren't sure how thin thin would be as we were hungry. Drove 9 hours down from Nashville through a tornado. Wanted something quick for our family of 8. Not too chewy. And overall, the pizza was tasty. Herbs on the veggie were a nice touch. And the Seven Cheese White Pizza was very tasty. Pizzas were ready on time, as promised. (We picked them up.) We were on our annual beach vacation in Destin, FL and decided one night that we wanted pizzas and wings... So I got on yelp and saw that Merlins Pizza have a lot of good reviews with lots of locals backing it up. Me and the boyfriend end up ordering a Large Hawaiian pizza (16.99), with 20 piece hot wings. We got 10 of the hot wings in their sweet buffalo sauce and the other 10 in regular hot. This was a togo order and Merlins pizza packaged the wings in togo containers with sauce on the side. I liked this because I can then mixed the sauces and just shake it up when I get home and it will be less messy to transport. After we went home and tried the pizzas...we thought it was a-okay... nothing spectacular. The wings on the other hand...were our favorites. I loved the sweet buffalo sauces and thought it was really good. If we are ever craving wings while we are in Destin in the future, we would come back to Merlin for the wings only. DINNER: 14 inch large cheese pizza, hand tossed, half with tomatoes. Drank waters and soft drinks. We enjoyed the pizza, very fresh and tasty. Crust is a little on the thick side for hand tossed, but not quite like a deep dish. SERVICE: fast and friendly. We ate dinner in the restaurant around 7pm on a Monday night in mid-July. LOCATION: Convenient to everyone in Destin. We made the drive from Fort Walton for the food. INTERESTING TIDBIT: Small screen TV at the three booths. So much better than the chain, or "corporate" pizza joints. This is very well-executed "small-town America" Mom and Pop pizza, made with good ingredients. We've tried several different types of their pizza and enjoyed each of them. This is not going to compare to your favorite place back home, but if you set your expectations to "way better than the chains" you will not be disappointed. I ran my own pizza shop many years ago, and (since I completely failed to succeed) I have a lot of curiosity about how folks do what they do. The first time that I went in, I asked if I could come behind the counter, and they gave me a tour. The kitchen was well-organized, and very clean. The order online option works very well with the coupons available on their website. We went on admittedly very busy Saturday night, and were told it was a 30 minute wait for carry-out. We ordered and were sitting on the bench near the counter but the person calling the names had a very soft voice and was hard to understand. At 22 minutes our name was called by someone with a much louder voice and we received a very limp pizza, clearly it had been sitting in the warming box for over five minutes. If we had been told 20 minute wait we would have been more assertive in finding out if the pizza was ready. As we're not fans of pizza that has been sitting for a while, a three star is the best we can do. Our suggestion is to eat there if you can. read more

But, I have given a lot of business to this location and recently have been dealing with people on the phone who have attitude. I had a delivery with raw dough come out recently. Then they re delivered, and raw dough again. And what am I supposed to do at that point? Piss them off and ask to re deliver again? Or get credits for free pizza from a place I don't want to order pizza from again? This place is very good. It's pizza is ALWAYS homemade and home tossed and is also always made by the 2 same people. The restaurant is ran by 3 talented people (with 2 chefs) and I totally suggest it because it is so good and they even take special orders!! It also has gluten free pizza and wings! We went hand-tossed; would like to try the thin crust as well. I also noticed there is a gluten free option. I'm very impressed by their commitment to being a quality local establishment. They emphasize local ingredients and their guarantee (they'll swap out any pizza for a comp from a competitor for free) is quite amazing. Merlin's pizza comes in 4 sizes ( 10, 12, 14, 16 inches ) prizes vary on the type of pizza you decide on. Toppings are your average supreme pizza (sausage, pepperoni, peppers, olives, onions) but similar to the importance of rice to sushi, the dough plays an important role in constructing the best pizza. Probably one of the softest dough I've ever had! Most pizzas are extremely oily and draped with cheese, but this pizza was perfectly soft and moist without being damped with oil.
