Darn you for being so close to me. I look at you every time I walk by to do my laundry next door or go to the subway or come home from the city or walk my dog. I always see people sitting outside taunting me with their facial expressions while they converse with their friends. Eat here, come in, do me. Maybe not that last part but everything else is true. I finally caved and came here with friends. I ordered the De Pescado tacos (fish) and it tasted good. I'm not sure what has come over me but I keep ordering fish tacos. Glad MC didn't disappoint. The tacos are $9 for 3 BUT the downside is that you can't mix and match like the Kimchi Taco truck*. Also, the tacos are the same price for brunch and dinner. The guacamole was good as well and wasn't too thick or pasty. Prices are reasonable while the wood communal tables are priceless. Great place to bring friends or a date or a one night stand. Hmm, I wanna give this place a bad review because I had one really terrible experience with the service here. However, the food is pretty delicious so I can't do it in good faith. I once lost my wallet (and didn't know until the check came). So I called a friend who lived a few blocks away to come and spot me while I figured out the situation, and informed the restaurant of this plan. After about five minutes, the idiot (yes, you are an idiot) host or manager or whoever actually had the nerve to call the police on me and make a big scene in the packed restaurant! I think I only had like a drink and guacamole at the bar or something too--quite the dine and ditch run up tab of like $20, let me tell you. I eat out like 5 times a week (maybe more) and have never been treated like this ANYWHERE. Let it also be known that I had been here many times prior, as I lived quite close at the time. I would even bring friends from out of town here. So, I forgive and still begrudgingly endorse you, Mesa Coyoacan, as I know outliers do occur and it may have just been an off night for you. But I can't give you the five stars you probably deserve because of this absurd experience. You owe me a free margarita first and then we will talk. read more

Two words: HOLY COW! I went here on Cinco de Mayo (fortunately we got there early!) with my beau. We found this restaurant by searching online and decided to give it whirl; we were very happy that we found ourselves here. At the bar we ordered a shot of our favorite tequila, Heradura, and when our shots were placed on the bar, we were surprised and intrigued by the presentation. They arrive on a wooden board with three other small glasses: one shot of a spicy tomato concoction, the shot itself, and the last glass has a few salted and roasted peanuts in it. The bartender did not recommend a specific order but we did the shot of tequila, the shot of the spicy tomato juice, and munched on the peanuts last. We found this method of serving a simple shot to be creative and fun. The special margarita of the day was a watermelon/jalepeno combo and I sipped this one down while my beau had a tamarind margarita. They were very strong but mixed very well. I am a big fan of combining cool and refreshing flavors with a kick so this was right up my alley. The tamarind margarita was okay but I would have like to have taste more tamarind. Our appetizer were the flautas de carnitas and we were both thoroughly impressed with not only the presentation but balance of flavors. The pork was tender and sweet, the sacues were both spicy and creamy, the queso fresco was a mild addition, and the black bean paste created an earthy depth of flavor. The star of this dish is the tortillas; they are sweet, crispy, and absolutely fresh. I asked the waitress if they were indeed fresh and she said "Yes, they are made by hand everyday". That detail alone proves how much love and attention goes into their food. Our entrees were both stuffed chiles; he had the Chile Relleno Vegetariano and I had the Chiles en Nogada. Yes, his dish was delicious but I was supremely impressed with the Chiles en Nogada. This is true Mexican cuisine at its finest. Chiles en Nogada is a very special dish that is only served for special occassions and here it is simply heavenly. The pork of course is amazing but what sets it apart from other stuffed chiles is the fruit and nuts. There are peaches, apples, raisins, almonds, the sauce is made from walnuts, and it is topped with pomegranate seeds. My words cannot do this dish justice. Dessert was equally as delicious: maduros flameados, sweet plantains soaked in tequila and then set on fire. Dramatic, terrible sweet, and very addictive. The decor is traditional Mexcian with a modern twist. There is this lovely window pane and sill that has metal gate shutters which I am completely in love with. It was cozy enough for us to feel romantic but friendly enough for groups. The wait staff is attractive, well-informed, and attentive enough (it was a very busy night) but not over-zealous. What a bummer. The evening started off great with pretty good Guac and chips and some beers and quickly spiraled into a sub par dining experience. The salad tasted like it was throw together 5 hours earlier with a too sweet dressing and zero care to presentation. Felt wilted and NOT fresh. The Steak was god awful, like the worst cut of tough, boring bland meat. The only redeeming dish were the fish tacos, which were tasty enough. I'd order them again. The enchiladas were the most run of the mill thing I've come across. This place is by no means DISGUSTING but it is certainly far from even "good"--it just is. Came here with a group of 11 to celebrate a friend's bday. The food was just ok. I've had better. The prices are high for a brooklyn joint even if it is East Williamsburg. Main plates were about $18-$25. And the plates were pretty small. Drinks were about $16 each. I had the watermelon margarita and the mango jalapeno margarita--both $16. Watermelon one was good but wish it were a full-sized margarita at $16. The servers were all pretty attentive so I give them that. There's a $3 per person cakeage fee. They call it the "outside dessert" fee--which is kind of ridiculous considering we brought 11 people into their establishment to eat and pay for the overpriced food and drink as it is. So they charged $33 on top of the already over the top prices for a mexican restaurant. At the very least, they should have NOT charged the birthday girl's plate. Most places would give the birthday girl a free dessert with a candle. But here, they charged her $3 to eat her own cake that her bf bought. Another interesting thing that happened is that they tried to stiff us out of half of our cake. We brought in a nice cake from Financier Patisserie. The cake was half glazed and half unglazed on top. When they brought the slices out for each diner, it was so thin and pathetic. I wondered why they cut such thin slices when there was plenty of cake to go around. As I looked around the table, I noticed that 9 out of the 11 slices had no glazing and only two had the red glazing which means, there's at least another 7 glazed slices in the kitchen. I only noticed because I was hoping for a glazed slice. When some people finished their thin slices, they wanted seconds. The waitress told us that there was no more cake at which point, I advised her that 9 out of the 11 slices that came out had no glazing while only 2 had glazing which means the glazed half of the cake should still be in the kitchen if not already eaten by the staff. She went back to check and lo and behold, the cake was there. I am not sure if the staff was saving the cake for themselves by serving us the thinnest slices possible but if the cake wasn't divided in half by glazing, we would have been ripped off on our own cake. We will NOT be back. The food was just so so. The prices too high for what you actually get. And call me old fashioned, but the cake cutting fee is just plain ridiculous. read more

Visited this mexican restaurant with couple of friends and here is what we though about Mesa Coyoacan in Brooklyn. This was just our experience so please take this review with a grain of salt. We arrived at Mesa Coyoacan on a Saturday night when it was nice and busy. We tried to get a seat and the waitress told us it was a 30 minute wait. We gave them our phone number and went to a bar 3 minutes away from Mesa Coyoacan. After waiting for about an hour so, we received our call for us to be seated. We walked over back to the place to be told that they seated some other guests on our table and told us to wait at their bar. After a few minutes we were sitting down and received our first bowl of chips and guacamole. The guacamole was quite tasty but their chips felt like it was soaked in oil. It was more like Guacamole with some oil. On to the food. We all agreed on one thing. Very salty and sweet. Can they put any more salt on to our food? I Had the carne asada and it was quite tasty. The rice and beans that came along with the food was just too salty for me and my friend's palettes. Maybe it was just the night we were there. We ordered their sangria and the sangria just tasted like pure redwine and nothing else. The decor and appearance of the place was very nice. Very fancy and trendy. The price was quite expensive for the quality of food and service that we received that night. This is the kinda place where I wish there was a 3.5 star option... There's usually a wait. The margaritas are over priced ($13)- although I didn't order one. I had beer. The service is professional. The atmosphere is nice and romantic. The food was just OK. I've had better Guac, but it was good. I ordered the Tilapia Tacos and again they were OK. The flavor of the fish was forgettable and the slaw could have been better. The Taco plate was very small portioned. I personally don't mind a proper portion like that, but if you're a guy who likes to eat a lot beware. So after 4 beers, two taco orders and guac the bill was around $60 which wasn't too bad considering. I would definitely come here again to test out their margaritas and another dish. read more

Oh, Mesa Coyoacan how you've solved my primary marital dilemma (which of course involves food) - it satisfies my man's unquenchable hunger for Mexican food and caters to my desire to feel fancy (emphasis on FEEL). Although somewhat on the pricey side for Mexican ($40 - $50 on dinner for 2) it is comparable to gourmet-level Mexican spots, such as Suenos in Manhattan, for less than half the price. Sure you won't get the same white-glove treatment, but hey unless the meal comes with a very, very happy ending, over $100 on Mex can leave you feeling dirty (or, ummm unjustifiably dirty). Anyhow, back to Mesa. First off decor: simply gorgeous, without being pretentious, lots of wood and candlelight. Romantic, sexy, fuckable....sorry, I can't sing the praises of the decor highly enough. Plus, the great music selection adds to the inviting interior. Service - amazingly enough Mesa seems to have corralled the only friendly hipsters on the planet and forced them to work here. But these are happy slaves; they welcome you warmly, help you out with recommendations, check up on you just the right amount, and thank you sincerely as you leave. Friendly hipsters you say?? I know, I still haven't gotten over the shock. Food - here is where they lose one star. Now don't get me wrong, the food is damn good, but being a 2nd generation chunti from So. Cal I love me some spicy, and by spice I mean burn-your-mouth, fire hot. You won't get that in most of the dishes here, but you will get good seasoning, quality ingredients, good execution and artful presentation. However, portions are not huge so go with the correct expectations (aka get over your fatassness and just enjoy the calorically-appropriate serving they give you, pig). On my first visit I ordered a michelada and the sopa azteca. The sopa was flavorful and was actually pretty spicy, as well as being a very generous serving (ok i know I am contradicting everything I wrote earlier, don't be so damn observant!). The michelada was ok, but did not compare to the micheladas I've enjoyed in Mexico, but I realize we are in NYC so I'll shake the sand out of my vag. I can't remember what my date (also known as my husband) ate, but we finished off the meal with churros coupled with warm cajeta and chocolate for dipping. They are better than sex, world peace, Karl Rove being subjected to a public ass-kicking by every American citizen, and puppies combined (probably a few other things as well). Once I devoured my churro I had to practice the highest level of self-control to refrain from licking up the rest of the cajeta - but then again I really like licking things.* On my second visit my hubs and I shared an order of guacamole. It's slightly pricey but it is some of the best guacamole I've had: fresh, high-quality avocados, ciltantro, lime - yum. But it could have used a bit more of a kick. Similarly, the trio of salsas that accompanied my husbands order of tacos were loaded with flavor but I would have preferred more fire. My ceviche was a little on the sweet side and could have used some more jalapeno. Also, the glass the serve it in, while lovely, is really impractical and makes it difficult to eat. Overall, it is enjoyable but I will probably won't order it again. The disclaimer: we lived in LA for 10 years and though we decided to leave it behind we still know about Mexican food and the joy it can bring Not one single restaurant or food truck in LA charges for salsa. Even though it's a small restaurant it has delicious food and margaritas. I ordered the esquite and a guac as a started, the most outstanding one was the esquite. For entree I had the skirt steak and my husband had the enchiladas de mole. My steak was juicy and tender. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. read more

I love Mexican food. Pure, simple, elemental Mexican food. Not Tex Mex not West Coast Mex not Hippie Mex but real/fresh/modern Mex! That means fresh, small delicate, flavorful house made tortillas and queso fresca and crema (not monterrey jack and sour cream) and mole made from scratch and salsa verde that tastes bright and has a tang that forces you to salivate and cocktails made from fresh tamarind and hybiscus (instead of premade concoctions). And i want the front of house staff to be relaxed and hospitable AND knowledgeable without all that bothersome pretension that's so prevalant in these parts. The kicker is that it's the fav destination for both divorced Mom and Dad- he's obsessed with the esquites and she the tacos de pastor. I like it all. I trusted Briana and Bridget with Mexican food in NY, and I do not regret it. Ever since I started making visits to Dallas, my cravings for tacos, micheladas, tamales, ceviche, and tres leches have all gone largely unsated. I got it all in one dinner and it was delicious. Horchatas, great. Fancy tequila with elaborate accessories were excessive, but delicious, and explained without even an ounce of condescension, a true feat in this neighborhood. My cousin has an obsession with chiles en nogada. His favorite place to get it was Costa Del Sol in midtown, but they closed, and thank god this replacement was enough. The mole is rich, complex, delicious, and not muddled. The enchiladas verdes were exactly what I've been missing these past 6 months. Tamales are short and stubby,. The filling texture was a little dry, and the tamale itself a little soft. Ceviche (vuelve a la vida) was perfect and stood up well to those I've had in Texas. Chiles en nogada are very sweet and rich (think korma), everyone loved them, don't sleep on it. Tacos come with a delicious quartet of salsas (including the dark beer salsa that comes with the guac/chips), but the tacos themselves were eaten before I could even try them. Tres leches was hardcore delicious. Fruit fillings, moist, I'm not sure if the cake was a day old like it should be, but the fruit made up for lack of total leche/cake penetration. Hmmm...This place was on my radar for awhile. Finally got to go for date night. We ended up having mixed feelings all through the night. Disclaimer: I am a tequila and margarita expert. It's my thing. I was Mexican in a past lifetime, and we have both had Mexican from Mexico to West Coast Barrios to street carts to whole in the walls to tex-mex to Taco Bell, and this place just falls short. The service was awkwaes, the food good in some ways and basic in others, and beverages just hands down awful. We spent $121 with 3 drinks, 2 apps and 2 tapas, and we essentially enjoyed 3 of the 7 things. Umm yeah idk if I can recommend it. Don't think I'd be back. Atmosphere & Service: To start after we (my husband and I) sat at a 3 seater with no 3rd party we were told that if someone comes to sit behind us that my husband would have to move. Clearly you placed the seat here so close to the other table so if we had 3 ppl you would've made it work. Okay whatever. Overall the place isn't as cute as I hoped, but their island bar stool table makes for a cute center area. Then our waiter was OVERBEARING. He leaned over the bar and over our table and was just a lot to take in. I also received a dirty bowl for the appetizer and asked someone to switch it, she stared at me and the plate then switched. Just some super weird people working here. Food & Drinks: Overpriced for size and taste. We order the special margarita (watermelon mixed with another fruit) and it was horrible. Tasted very weird and not at all like what he described. We order the esquites- it was like a can of corn poured into a sundae glass and crema on top. Tasty, but tiny and again canned corn very watery. I did the camarones and my husband did the Mexican ribs. Both dishes were good, but hands down the ribs has better flavor. The guac was okay but NOT necessary. They do have a habanero sauce for those who like heat- very tasty. Also, I order a strawberry mango margarita and it was HORRIBLE. There are clearly fresh ingredients, but when I taste salt water more than fruit- you need more ripe fruit. My husband's Tamarindo margarita tasted better than mine, but still pretty awful. Lastly, he ordered a tequila and pineapple juice. If you want to get wasted THAT'S what you do because it was a full cup of tequila and barely any juice. read more

Mesa felt very odd six years ago, as if someone planned a restaurant for SoHo and then decided at the last minute to come to Williamsburg. The neighborhood has changed enough that this place no longer sticks out so much, but it does still feel a bit apart from the surroundings. When I first moved to the neighborhood, I dismissed this place as an "upscale spot for yuppies in their 30s." Of course I'm now a bit of a yuppie and definitely in my 30s. Is it any surprise I found myself feeling slightly warmer on this place on a couple of recent visits? This is slightly-fancy Mexican food designed for white people, but it is at least good slight-fancy Mexican food designed for white people. The margaritas come in several surprising flavors, are strong without being too sweet. No one will be mad for choosing this place, although truly great Mexican food is found farther to the east, at places with much lower decorating budgets. Eating outside (on sidewalk chairs, there is unfortunately no backyard) is a great way to watch the beards, dogs and tight pants go by while seated. read more

Despite the odd-looking exterior (tall green tinted glass), Mesa Coyoacan is a gem on Graham Ave. As soon as you enter, you are transported to a world where meticulously prepared dishes are complimented by a fantastic drink selection (mmmmargaritas) and a homey, old-timey atmosphere. I have been here on many occasions and the service is always delightful, helpful and beautiful. Appetizers - Esquites: Gotta try this. Corn kernels served with chile, cotija cheese, and lime in a typical "sundae" glass. Delicious! I also heartily recommend any of the taco options. They are on the small side, these are for appetizers after all, but the presentation is superb and the taste is as authentic as what I've been served in upscale restaurants in Mexico. Oh yeah, GREAT guacamole year 'round, never skimp on the guac :) Entres (Platos Fuertes): Enchiladas Verdes - YES, enchiladas de mole: Maybe even better! Really, just try anything. I've never been disappointed. Never. Desserts: This is my FAVORITE part. Look no further than the made-to-order Churros! Un-be-lievable. You'll be served a plate of 4 warm cinnamon-covered dough sticks with 2 small dipping sauce bowls - dark chocolate and caramel. Yep, you've never had a churro like this. (I had apprehensions b/c the only ones I'd had previously were from the vendors on the subway platform, these are NOTHING like that) Just go here. Great date spot or small party. All of a sudden it was Mexican, not Argentinian. Which is fine, as we don't have a ton of fancy-pants Mexican. So I was all excited to try. Pretty packed on a Sunday night, so I am thinking it might be a new hottie spotty. We got a table in the back right away though. The decor is great - sleek, modern, and pretty. Haute-cuisine style Mexican. Our server was nice, knowledgeable and friendly. Attentive but not overbearing, and had good suggestions for us. The food is really really nice, but the portions are small. It's Mexican food for skinny people. Which really I should have embraced and enjoyed the rich complex flavors in my mole sauce, but instead I ordered a side of rice and beans to fill me belly. Honestly though, the enchiladas had so much mole sauce, they needed a side of rice to soak it up. And the margaritas, totally delicious and unique flavor combinations. But again, on the small side and not very strong, so definitely not worth the $9 price tag. I've been drinking margaritas in this area for years - they are really a $7 or $8 marg at best. So, point taken for the poor pricing. So, to summarize - good food but kind of small portions and overpriced. But totally worth going because of NYC's inability to serve upscale Mexican food. read more

There IS tequila in the margaritas..you just have to pay $3 extra for it. And the $3 extra will get you drunk. 2. This is a good spot for groups. They were super friendly when I made reservations, and we had a great table seating 10 up on the front near the window. 3. The background music (enter Justin Timberlake's latest album) was nice background music but not too loud. Thanks for that! 4. We started with the guacamole to share. The chips were crispy and fresh. We also enjoyed the variety of salsas that we served like the habanero salsa and the tomatillo salsa. I ordered a Brunch Plate Special with carnitas, guacamole, rice, beans topped with queso fresco. It was delicious with the corn tortillas and salsas. The rest of the tables also enjoyed their meals. Love love love this place!! Came here for brunch with a couple of friends on a weekend. While it was cold, we decided to make trek out to Brooklyn because I had heard good things about this place from my friend. And I am really glad that we did. The ambience is casual and energetic. The tables are made of thick wood and there is something very trendy yet simple about this place, it is a very inviting setting. As we entered we were told, it would 10-15 minutes before we were seated so we could just wait at the bar. We decided to order our drinks at the bar and move over to our table as it was ready. For the drinks, I ordered the jamaica - the idea was to get the amrgarita but for some reason the guy gave me the non acoholic version which explains why I found it so sweet (I am not sure why the mix-up?). I found out about this only at the end when it was time to pay. My boyfriend got the mango margarita with the chili coconut salt on its rim, it was absolutely deliciously, and I tried to drink as much as possible without him noticing (discretely!). Apparently, there was some confusion because they thought we were eating at the bar and gave away our table to the following party. The manager apologized and we were seated within 10 mins of that. For the appetizers, we ordered the guacamole and shared. I orders soft corn tortillas with the guac since I didn't want to eat it with fried chips and they were happy to comply. For the main course, I ordered the cactus and mushroom tacos without the sour cream. They were quite good, definitely in my top 5 taco pick. I only wished they had more sauce added to it, it felt a little dry to me. My boyfriend ordered the special which comes with 2 eggs (cooked whatever way you want - he ordered runny), fried chips, black beans, onions, cheese and sour cream and he added steak to it. The portion size is huge and is definitely a bargain for the prize. They give various spicy sauces as condiments and my boyfriend thought it could use some spicy sauce as well. Given the mix up with the table, they have us a free flan to share. I couldn't eat it due to dietary restrictions but my friends and boyfriend loved it! Nice place to meet a friend for tapas and margaritas. Steep prices considering the fare - plaintains for example are not a luxury food item :) but this is a really pleasant dining experience with plenty of vegetarian options. My friend and I were deep in conversation throughout, loving the food and had a good time. Staff are friendly, though could learn the art of observing diners better for cues about appropriate times to jump in with questions . I did like the fish tacos. My visit was during brunch hours on a Saturday and was solely based on Thrillist rating Mesa Coyoacan's the Best Margaritas in Williamsburg. We ordered the strawberry and watermelon margaritas. It's served in a highball glass for $11and I honestly felt a tad ripped off. The flavor wasn't impressive and in my opinion lacked alcohol--my novice liver would've noticed. I ordered the juevos ranchos special with salsa verde and rojo sauces and preferred the green sauce as it was well-seasoned and boosted the taste of their brunch special platter of steak which unfortunately lacked seasoning. Our server was great and attentive to our needs but the flavor boost is needed for the margaritas and steak. With that said, I'll give them another try as it could've been an off day for the cook however sans the margaritas. read more

I went to school in San Antonio, Texas, and it was there that I learned how to really enjoy a good taco. Barbacoa, Carnitas, Carne Asada...you name it. It was also there that I set the standard for tacos to follow; the east coast just can't match the level of Tex-Mex greatness I had in Texas. So, take my review with that in mind. We had started out looking for El Diablo food truck, but were unsuccessful. And our iPhone's died (Gasp!)...but, that was the fun part. We wanted tacos, and we were going to get tacos no matter what. Thankfully I had looked Mesa Coyoacan up before, and remembered the street. We found it after a little walk, and it pleasantly surprised us. We didn't even make it inside, because we spotted an empty table on their outdoor seating area...which was small, but nice. So, we asked the waitress if we could sit there...yes! One of the best parts of this place was the great service. Our waitress was super friendly and she even apologized for having us wait so long for our appetizer that she brought out complimentary chips and guac. The great part is, we didn't even feel like we waited that long for it...and we didn't even say anything. Amazing service! Now, onto the tacos! We went with the De Cochinita Pibil (a tasty pulled pork style taco), and De Suadero (a brisket rendition) tacos. Both were really good. I like the De Suadero better, though. The downside was that you couldn't mix and match, and the tacos come in an order of three. We were hungry, but we weren't going to order an additional round of tacos for the prices. We wanted to try all of them, but their lack of flexibility with mixing-'n-matching kinda bummed me out. That would be the biggest let down. I finally got to see the interior of the building at the end of the meal to use the bathroom...and was surprised at how dark it was. There was daylight out still, so I can't imagine how dark it gets at night. Overall though, I was quite pleased. I am in a continual search for tacos that can get it right on the east coast, and this is one of those places that is going in the right direction. read more

TASTY! DELICIOUS! WONDERFUL! Wow I definitely have to come back here, I had the pozole and my sister had enchiladas, everything was so yummy. The seating is the only thing I wasn't a fan of, very close together but I can't complain because a white guy sitting next to us on my right called the guacamole "quackamole" gosh that gave me a good laugh and the girls sitting to my left were talking about her cheating boyfriend. The conversations were funny to listen to but I definitely couldn't share any personal stories with my sister or they might end up on this page. I've been looking for good Mexican food since I came to this country without any success! When I saw the word "Coyoacan" on the restaurant name, I thought, maybe this is a good place (Coyoacan is one of the 16 boroughs in Mexico City), and I wasn't wrong! I'm Mexican, for obvious reasons I know what tastes like good Mexican food! And this place is the real deal! Definitively, I'll be coming back again! My wife & I love it! Great food (a little bit overpriced, but who cares! It's a luxury well deserved) and good environment. Really awesome service, props to the awesome staff here who are great at managing a large party of 20+ people who showed up on the fly. As for the food, however, it wasn't the most impressive. Had the sopa Azteca which ended up being a little on the bland side. Also had a combination of the tacos which were good, but not exceptional. Maybe the way to go here is the enchiladas which looked a lot better. I guess it's just a little tough to please when you're coming from the West Coast. read more

I've eaten here since it opened and I lagged on my review. So, many apologies to Ivan, Mari-Inez & Co. This place is dope! Not very eloquent, I know but I digress, my way to honor this place and my roots is to sum up how I feel in the first sentence and this one, I'm "hella" happy this place opened up by me! *doing the dance of joy* Eat this: -De Suadero. It reminds me of the fried beef my Lola (that's grandmother for those who don't know) would make for breakfast. -Enchiladas Verdes o Mole: Both are great but I've always been more partial to the Verde sauce -Always, always order a side of chips and guac. -Bring on the churros. Mmmm churros and that luscious caramel sauce too. Extra side of that sauce, por favor! Great wine list. A fave is the Jesus Diaz for blanco. I have good times at this place. I love Mesa Coyoacan! I have eaten here the last three times I've visited Brooklyn, and I'll definitely come back! This past time, we went for lunch. When we arrived, the waitor infomed us that they couldn't serve the Tortas yet, because the bakery hadn't delivered the bread yet. Lucky for us, the rest of our party was running late, and by the time we ordered, the Tortas were back on the menu. I ordered the fish torta, which ended up being one the best sandwiches I've ever had. The bread was obviously fresh, and it had a thin layer of refried beans and queso topped with grilled tilapia, avacado, lettuce, tomato, and jalepenos. So much flavor. My husband ordered the fish tacos, which I've had before. The tortillas are homemade and the pickled cabbage on top is a great balance for the spicy fish. The tacos are not as filling as the tortas. The four salsas they bring out before our meal were all great, but our favorite was the salsa verde. We also ordered an appetizer of guacamole, which was great, but tasted like what I make at home. Nothing surprising, but solid guacamole nonetheless. Mesa Coyoacan remains my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn! read more

Menu looked good and we are always on the look out for tasty Mexican fare. The place is very cute and decorated smartly; tables were well spaced and comfortable. Other then that we won't be back. We ordered the guacamole with chips, no salt and the chips were stale, we asked for new ones and they came out warm and crispy, how they should have been originally. Shrimp ceviche was ok, nothing spectacular, my husband would up pouring most of it into the guac to give it more flavor. The enchiladas verdes was the most disappointing, to much acid. The carnitas however were very good, a little bit of salsa verde from the side tray, Fabulous. My red sangria was average, I wouldn't refer to it as a house specialty, and my husbands red wine came out freezing cold, reds are not to be served that way... disappointing We didn't stay for dessert, walked over to Fortunado brothers instead. read more

I wanted to be able to make this a 4-star review, but when I got a craving for tacos... spent 20 dollars and considered stopping for a hot dog on the way home... something is amiss. As everyone has said the interior is cozy without necessarily being claustrophobic. Service was fine. We started with the chips and guac. The chips are fresh and extra sturdy. The guac was good and chunky without being overworked. Although I don't know if it had enough zip to it to overpower the flavor of the heavy chips. I got the Tacos Al Pastor and this is where I had a problem. 3 tacos... authentic Mexico City styled street tacos... meaning the tortilla size is about half of the size of a typical taco you come to expect here. I'm not a big eater at all and I could have easily eaten 6 of these things. Unfortunately, at 9 dollars for 3... I just didn't feel like I had gotten my fill. Maybe had I had some rice and beans (an additional 4.50) I would have walked away satiated. Overall, the place was nice... the food was tasty... but I am more likely to go to Taco Chulo where I can also get phenomenal tacos and not still be hungry when I leave. read more

Mesa Coyacan already had earned at least four stars from me when I was done with the round of guacamole and tacos that I started my meal off with. There's dark beer in the guacamole, and in one of the chile sauces that accompanied the tacos - that subtle malty flavor hits my palette in all the right places. The tongue tacos, de lengua, were my favorite - the meat on them is less seasoned than much of the other beef and pork options, and it played very well with the sauce I was so enamored by. Star number five was earned after one bite of the Mole Poblano. This dish is entirely underplayed on the menu; with Mexican restaurants all over claiming their Mole to be authentic, complex, composed of over 30 ingredients, you'd think they'd do more than just say "Chef Ivan's traditional Mole". Apparently I should have known to give Chef Ivan more credit for his recipes. This is the singular best Mole I've had in the US, and I find myself comparing every other attempt at the sauce I've had through the states to This variation, not even the ones I've loved in Mexico itself. Didnt even get to eat! This review is more based on how the restaurant handled the order. I ordered for delivery around 5:30 on a Sunday--never received anything. First my order was cancelled due to "duplicate" order--after waiting over an hour being told it was being prepared. Maybe in person this place is good, but my first experience was awful--everything says the restaurant is open but you don't have guacamole or tacos? You're a Mexican restaurant how are you still accepting orders if you can't make mine? They don't even deserve a single star but that is the lowest I can manage on a review. read more

I came here for lunch a few weeks ago and it was delishhhhh. I had steak tacos and mexican corn - my fav. The place was surprisingly busy for a Friday afternoon but the service wasn't lacking and we were well taken care of. The place is really nice inside, great ambiance. It has an intimate feel even at the large tables for groups. I love the lighting - really nice. The margaritas - amazing. Honestly so delish. I had the Jamaica I believe, it is bright pink. You would expect a drink that looks like that to be overly sweet but it wasn't it was the perfect sweet-tart combo. I think I had about 3 and each was as good as the last. They are a bit pricey for the small glass the come in but they were definitely strong so that makes up for it I suppose. The food was great. The tacos come as 3 little tacos which at first looked a bit small to me but they were packed full of steak so they were more filling than expected. The corn was great too. I have come for drinks a couple times since and it is pretty busy in there on a weekend night but I was still able to get a seat at the bar which was nice. I noticed a lot of people come and sit at the bar and have a drink while they are waiting to pick up take out so the seats open up relatively quickly. read more
