I have been taking about 5 cars a year here for at least 10 years and they've always gotten me in and out fast and been very professional. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I've gotten to know Danny and the staff and they have shared how incredibly nasty people can get when their cars don't pass. I wonder about some of the negative reviews I see on here and is it Mesa Smog that's rude or the customer? They've always treated me very well. And yes my trucks don't always pass. read more

Been going here since 1995 and would not go anywhere else. To be honest I had coupons for other smog checks and decided I would try another station.Read yelp reviews and noticed Mesa smog did not have the best reviews. To make a long story short, when waking up to the rain today, I decided to go with what I knew and returned to Mesa smog. I was greeted in the rain by Sy, who immediately had me drive into the bay so I wouldn't get wet. They started the smog check immediately and within 8 minutes, it passed and I was done. Once again I am glad I went with my gut and returned. They are always professional, courteous, honest and respectful. Thank you Mesa Smog. it is always a pleasure doing business here. Rude. Obnoxious. Conniving. The front man was kurt and abrasive. I asked him specifically about aftermarket parts and he answered my question in a hard to understand manner, without addressing the aftermarket parts on my car. The workers were rude and blatantly abrasive, as well as ignoring my questions. The car didn't pass because of the after market parts, but these jerks made sure I would pay before they would answer the question directly. After coming back for my (forced) free re-test, I will never use them again, and highly recommend that you don't either. Bad Business. read more

I've used these guys solidly for the last 5 years (5 cars), and have never had any trouble. I just got back from there, reached for my door handle to get out - and the inside door handle was broken off! I had to roll down my window and reach outside to get out. I called them and they claimed to "not be able to make a comment" and "we couldn't have done that". BS. I called perfectly willing to ask for a few bucks off, or to get a "sorry" - I would have accepted that. Yea, it's an old car, and it's not in perfect shape, but I'm out $50.00 now. I always come to Mesa Smog to get my van smog. Never a hassle and quick. It took less than 10 minutes today for them to smog check. Maybe 5 minutes? It took longer to unload my chair off the van. They remembered me from the last time when I had my old green van. Great service. No nonsense to call you in and make you check under the hood. I've been coming here for a long time - I'll bet at least ten visits (and maybe 15 or 20, between four cars) - and I always come back. This is a Smog Test ONLY business, and thus more expensive than regular test locations, but I feel it's worth it. One of my cars is a 1987 Camry that I bought new, and though it always makes me nervous to get it tested, it always passes. Even when I often have the option of going to a less expensive regular test location, I always return to Mesa Smog. They're very efficient and I rarely have to wait more than ten minutes. They're also directly across the street from the DMV, which is very handy if you want to get your registeration stickers that same day. (Written in 2010 - have been going to a different place closer to where I live since then). read more

Went there today to get a smog check. Place was empty and after the way I was treated I can see why; drove out the driveway as fast as I drove in. Went to the Shell station on the corner of Fairview and Baker where I was treated like a valued customer and gladly paid full price even though I had a coupon. read more

Ever have a car you had to smog where you had to hold your breath, cross your fingers, and tighten your sphincters? I have. One of our cars is our "old slut." And we love her. This place never lets me down. I drive down there from LA, give him the keys and do the above. 15min later he has me sign a credit card slip, says it passed, and I head home - red-faced, cramped sphincters and all. read more

Wheres the negative stars!? Much like the other negative posts I'd rather burn my car than have to take it to this place again! Little man in the office has a HORRIBLE attitude! Im a mechanic so naturally I want to know whats going on with my car since no one touches it but me. He told me I must stay in the office and not stand around outside. So naturally this provoked me and after pacing back and forth OUTSIDE, words were exchanged, and whatever you do don't say to him "Calm down, you dont need to be such a dick". Lets just say the Devil came out and I thought I was going to get punched. Hahaha! Then to top it off I failed because of a wrap on my stock exhaust manifold. This set off another chain of events when he wouldn't explain anything but take it off and come back. Owner/manager is extremely rude. He took my $ and tested my jeep...afterwards he told me that it didn't pass because he wrote that it was modified...he had no intention of passing it...just wanted my money. He should have told me that it wouldn't pass because it was modified before he took my money...after I removed the modified part, I took it to Costa Mesa Smog...wow! What a difference...extremely nice and excellent customer service!! Don't go to Mesa smog here...choose Costa Mesa instead...Mesa smog is a ripoff!!! read more

My old Toyota FJ60 needed a smog, and it's passed painlessly every time I've come here. It's a test only station- I don't come here to make friends, I have other places I'd rather be- so don't let the comments about the staff frighten you! I was in and out in less than 20 minutes... Because the owner runs this shop like a well oiled machine. Just enough time for a McCafe next door, and I was back at work in a flash. I don't want hugs from my mechanics, I just want the job done right the first time. The guy is professional and fast and courteous enough. If you feel a deep seated need to chitchat, to bond and to "friend" your smog tech on Facebook go somewhere else so the rest of us can get in and out faster. Mahalo. read more

I took my Jeep to get a smog test. I agree with Andrew...the manager/owner is EXTREMELY rude and he smog tested my Jeep....afterwards he said that it didn't pass because it was modified ...he shouldn't have tested in the first place..bottom line was he took my money knowing very well that he wasn't going to pass my car...what a rip off!!! read more

After having a very bad experience with a Smog Test shop in HB where they told me my car had a bad transmission and therefore he could not complete the test, I looked for another one based on the reviews here and elsewhere. In line with the reviews, I was immediately approached by the manager as I parked in the lot who quickly took my information, explained the process/cost and mentioned I could grab a bite next door if I wanted (note - coupons are available online, but they only accept a print out which he indicated he has to attach to the report). Impressed with the how the location looked clean and the bays were well kept, I left them my keys and went to order a quick breakfast to go. My car was ready before I came back and I was pleasantly surprised that my car passed with no issues (wasn't sure if the previous station was feeding me a line of BS regarding not being able to test my vehicle, but that confirmed it). The price was inline with the other stations, may be able to find a cheaper location, but the speed and efficiency of this place was worth it to me. read more

Dishonest and unprofessional. They will deny the "free retest" without the stamped document, which is the document mechanics will ask for when doing repairs. I was denied even though I had a receipt, carbon copy of original invoice and still within their 30 day expiration limit. read more

Do not give this place your business! The manager refused to do a smog check on my '02 Ford van; I have after- market headers installed and he was having trouble finding the part number. I offered to get under the car and get the number for him, but he said, "No, I've already wasted 10 minutes of my time; I'm not gonna smog your car!" The kicker? He has smogged this vehicle at least twice before, along with my three other cars! He was incredibly rude and refused to give me the owner's name. read more

I have been here 3 or 4 times in the past but after the last visit-no way. Shop has a little mailer ad so I went in and told him I saw the ad for $40.75 and confirmed that was the price. He said it was 5o.75 without the coupon. I pleaded do I reALLy need to drive back home for the ad? It doesn't say it's a coupon. He got real loud, rude and insisting. After returning with the ad it doesn't say $10 off or that it is a coupon. But in the smallest, color camoflaged print it says to bring it in. When I got to the shops office I was berated for trying to get ahead of another dude who came in the lot first but sat in his car for a while. Owner actually pointed his finger at me rudely and told the lagging guy he would be ahead of me. Other dude looks at me like whats going on. When it was my turn he verbally abused me. He was angry and rude. I didn't like having to return for the ad but it wasn't a big deal. The owner was just a raging idiot when you question him or ask him a question. He may be VC. I'm not sure.
