The place was pretty slow for a Tuesday evening at 6:30. We were greeted and seated promptly. The menu is different than a few months ago and not in a good way. Not a fan of the à la carte entrée and "family style" sides. But let's get past that and review the quality of the food. We were served "cinnamon butter" without bread that was definitely NOT cinnamon butter!!! It was almost like a solid Béarnaise sauce. The spinach artichoke dip was served with salsa and sour cream?? Strange. The dip was just not good, way too much spinach and not much else. The sausage and cheese board was fine. Three of the five people ordered BOGO 8oz filet medium RARE and most of them had very little pink. They all ate them because they said the flavor was good but cooked poorly. The ribeye and the burger were both fine. The asparagus was bitter and super firm. The broccolini had stalks as thick as a quarter, flavor was good but too big! Our server was prompt and attentive. Best thing we received was the lacking flavor garlic mashed potatoes. Bacon wrapped shrimp was cooked too fast, too crispy on the bacon and raw in the middle. Asparagus was nuts trimmed and bottom 3rd was not eatable. Spinach dip was bland, but came with sausa as if the knew you needed something to dip the chips in. Crabcakes I'll give 3 out of 5. Too salty. But I'm spoiled being from Kirkland, WA. Not worth the over price. Which also has a mandated 20%. We drove 45 minutes just to dine here. Once arriving, when we were being seated, we asked for a booster seat, we were told they didn't have any. We asked for a high chair, we were told they didn't have any. After seeing the look in our face, the hostess didn't apologize, didn't sympathize, she asked if we still wanted to stay and eat. Again, because we had driven 45 minutes, and it was already 7, we didn't want to scramble to find somewhere close to dine. So we were seated. Server came, she didn't tell us her name so I had to ask. Kiara I believe; receipt just says Bartender. I asked if there was a kids menu and she said no. So this establishment is not family oriented nor friendly. To put a meal together for a toddler you'd spend $30. The server never would come back to our table after bringing us water. She would go to a table that was in eyesight of our table but would never come to our table now look our way. I had to call her 3 separate time to come to our table and had to actually get up once and go get her. And then of course gratuity is automatically included, which she definitely does not deserve due to poor performance. I tip by service, not percentage. My ribeye was tough, even the edge should always be tender, but it was tough. I could get a better steak at Outback or Longhorn. First time here and it will definitely be our last. I don't mind spending money for good quality food that has good portion size. The food is not worth the money; and you have told me loud and clear that you prefer to not have families dine at your establishment. Very disappointing experience. read more

I have been to Southern County my whole life and I've never been to this place. This place was phenomenal. A top-notch chef. I got the chicken with the dirty rice with sausage in it and it was absolutely amazing. My husband loved his steak. A blueberry sauce. The was top-notch. You do know Open Table sends out a notification for a modification or cancellation, that was not received by the person that scheduled the reservation!! You won't believe this shit but 5 police cars with lights on arrive at Mesquite Steakhouse-Southaven because they were told that there were 17 unruly people creating a disturbance...I can't make this shit up!!! Beware! The restaurant automatically charges a 20% gratuity. If you don't pay attention, the bill has a line, "additional tip" so you can accidentally pay even more. I couldn't eat my mash potatoes because they were too salty. When I told the waitress, she said, "Oh, okay." That was the end of that. Not interested in customer problems. Didn't even make it to the entree before we left. We used to go all the time but can safely say we will not return now. You can't charge that much for an entree with that atmosphere and hostess. It used to be candles and incredibly sweet hostesses and service. The waitress was pretty attentive to refill drinks, take orders, etc etc. the atmosphere of the place was nice. We enjoyed the theme of the restaurant. The food was okay but not worth the price. Upcharging for sides that are less than amazing is a crime. Also, yes, we know it's a risk asking for a medium well filet. But for it to come out like jerky, and still cost $50 is unacceptable. Our experience here was nothing less than perfect! Everything we had was cooked perfectly and delicious! We had the Wild Game Experience appetizer to start. My son was able to try duck, elk and venison for the first time and was in love with the flavors. It was all cooked nicely and the portion was pretty decent of each meat. I had the rib eye and it came out a perfect medium rare. It was honestly the best steak I've had in the mid-south. So much flavor, so tender and juicy. My son had the NY strip and his also was cooked perfectly medium rare, tender and juicy. I also had the hatch chile mac and cheese with lobster as a side. It was spicy (those hatch chiles!) but so good. I wouldn't get the lobster next time with it as the hatch overpowers the delicate lobster flavor. The service was excellent as well. Several people must have come here to eat when they were having a bad day, and brought their bad day to this restaurant. I have nothing but good things to say about Mesquite Chop House, starting with the service and Wedge Salad! The Wedge Salad tasted AWESOME! For my entree, I had the 16 oz. My family and I went on October 1,2025 for my auntie birthday. We usually come often for celebrations. However when we went we were highly disappointed. They have changed the entire menu. We usually get pork chops, the pork tender Lon, and chicken breast. The salads variety even changed. We were highly disappointed the chicken was bland and raw. When it was addressed we were told it was grilled, however the chicken was undone. Also to add a couple of people had the chicken Alfredo which was bland and gummy! No big deal. Maybe she knew them. At least 15 minutes goes by and no one has come by to greet us or take a drink order. In fact, the mentioned waitress passed our table twice and appeared to be intentionally avoiding eye contact. Went to Mesquite with family and enjoyed myself! As you can see we ordered a full spread along with the chicken Alfredo. I'm only giving three stars because of three reasons 1) one of our dishes never made it to the table, another prime rib. At no fault of the server (who was amazing), but just poor planning on the kitchen I would imagine. 2) two of our sides were never sent out from the kitchen and we didn't receive them at all, drink service was also slow- so it just seems like they were understaffed or training multiple people. 3) overcooked food. My steak was burnt to the taste in multiple places on the steak but overall was good. The parts that were burnt were not really edible unless I cut off the bits that were burnt. Besides that, our waitress was amazing, accommodating and dealt well with such a big party. She went out of her way to help me find a place proper meal for my one year old along with a drink for him. I will visit them again once they are better staffed. read more

We used to love going to Mesquite. The food, service & atmosphere used to be phenomenal. This is not the same Mesquite as 5-10 years ago. We were hoping when they reopened that it would go back to how it used to be. Unfortunately, we were highly disappointed. The server was fine - maybe for a server at a casual dining restaurant - but not fine dining. We both started off with a salad - Caesar for my husband, and the wedge salad for me. The Caesar salad was mostly brown lettuce. My wedge salad was good though. My husband had the Bone in Rib eye with a baked potato, and I had the Duck with a Baked Potato. Neither cuts or meat were seasoned well & the baked potatoes had been sitting in the back for a while. My baked potato was barely warm and was undercooked. Even so, it's sad that the baked potato & wedge salad were the best part of the meal. We went tonight because we had a gift card, but it was definitely not worth the money spent. I definitely wouldn't go and spend money out of my own pocket. Being long time patrons of Mesquite, the downward trend of this restaurant is extremely disappointing. We kept hoping it would get better, but this is probably our last time going there. read more

We happened upon Mesquite Chophouse when the restaurant we we're headed for was closed...Best Happy Accident Ever!!! I have no idea how this restaurant has anything below 5 stars!! Everything was Fantastic! The ambiance, the service, the vibe are wonderful and feel like a special occasion! We absolutely loved the music playlist! But The Food...stole the show!! They serve a Smoked Old Fashion they had a Special Presentation and wonderful flavor! The Signature Wedge Salad was scrumptious...do not skip that! The Fried Shrimp was possibly the best shrimp I've ever had with a light crisp batter! The chef deserves all the praise and Mesquite Steakhouse is on a their way to being a legendary restaurant! If I could give this restaurant a 0 for a rating, I would. We came to celebrate my daughter's graduation and it was a terrible experience. First, when we came in the hostess was unaware that I was with the party and looked at our group with disdain and rolled her eyes and shook her head. However, when we made eye contact and she recognized that I was associated with the party, she quickly smiled and put on a pretense of hospitality. The second disappointment came when our order was delivered incorrectly. We asked for items multiple times such as condiments and silverware that took multiple asks and several minutes to receive. In addition, although the the lamb chops were good, I asked for the blueberry sauce to be on the side. Instead, the lamb chops were smothered in sauce that I elected to just scrape off. And, I ordered a side of asparagus for $10 and only received 4 asparagus, which is less than half of the serving size that is depicted in the online photos. The final and most egregious complaint occurred when the check was given to our party. The posted signs, website, nor menu advises the customer that they will be charged a 3.9% surcharge if a credit card is used. It was only written on the bottom of the check when the server delivered the check. It is prohibited in the state of Mississippi to charge a customer a surcharge (see photo of the Senate Bill). When I asked the server to have the manager to come by the table to address our concerns, the manager did not come after two requests. My husband finally had to go to the kitchen area and ask the manager to come by to speak to us. What makes me especially upset is the fact that the neighboring table of 3 people had similar complaints about their food and the manager came out THREE times. He had another server to take over the table, AND he gave them complimentary desserts. Oh and by the way, they were white. Conversely, our table had a party of 13 (all black and one white). We accepted the poor service and the disappointing food so as to not take away from the graduation celebration. We ONLY expressed concern and asked for a manager when the checks came out and the manager didn't bother to dignify us with a response. I will NEVER come back to this restaurant again and I encourage anyone to not go there as well. read more

Great food, great drinks, and great choices! However, it is very loud, which makes it hard for intimate conversations while eating. Additionally, we were more than disappointed with our server. Other servers seemed more skilled and better for the job. Our drinks took 15 minutes to come, however, are server blamed the bar being busy (we were sitting at the high tops in the bar and the bar top was at less than half capacity and we saw our drinks ready and started at them for a solid 10 minutes before asking the kind bartender to bring them over since I server clearly was in no rush to do so) read more

We went to the Mesquite Chophouse with a party of seven to celebrate my son's birthday. No server showed up after about a fifteen minute wait. My daughter got up and went to the hostess stand to ask about a server. A server finally arrived and informed us our regular server was "overwhelmed" and she was helping her out. This was a red flag right away. In all fairness, our substitute server did a good job under difficult circumstances. Each member of our party received their entree at a different time with long waits between entree arrivals. One member of our party never received their entree. When the rest of us were finished, the server wanted to know if she would like her entree in a box to take home. Also, the excuses were flowing...kitchen not getting the food out...other servers were grabbing her orders...how swamped they were...they had accepted to many reservations, on and on. The food that did reach our table was mediocre at best. The food was bland and not well seasoned. You could tell the kitchen was in a big hurry. The restaurant really "dropped the ball" because of total disorganization. I will have to think long and hard before deciding to return again. They have great bread they give you to munch on as you wait for your food.. which doesn't take long at all.. always cooked to perfection!!! They food has a lovely flavor! They have lots of desserts to choose from. The atmosphere is very classy! The new manager is phenomenal!!! And all of the staff is friendly. You can't go wrong eating here!!!!
