It is located in Tempe downtown and gets crowded during the weekend. But they're super fast, and it only takes a few minutes before you have your food. We had beef and chicken quesadillas and loved both! The 4-star is only for the taste of food, because usually, the environment is not clean at all. read more

What a great find! We're visiting town over Thanksgiving and no matter where we are, we're always looking for the best breakfast burrito. We walk in and we're treated with the friendliest counter service. We chose the chorizo breakfast burrito which was made fresh right before our very eyes (not a reheated pre-made burrito). Plenty of eggs were included (hard to find since the "egg shortage" and the combination of ingredients was perfect). They have yummy grilled Serrano peppers and their red sauce has a very nice spicy flavor. My Husband preferred the milder green. We ate outside on the patio on a beautiful morning. I think my friend summed it up best, "only good if you're drunk." I'd rather go to Filiberto's. Because it's on Mill it's always poppin, especially late at night. They don't serve quesadillas past 11pm which is disappointing. We opted for the steak burrito with all the toppings which came out to $11. It only came with two tiny salsas, a green and a red when I asked for red. Admittedly the burrito was very large. Rice and Beans were bland. Salsa was mild, not spicy. Steak, dry and tough. Mr. MESQUITE GRILL ON MILL AVE is the real deal! Upon entering Mr. mesquite Taqueria the smell of mesquite filled my nose! It made me instantly hungry. Little Rian ordered a pollito taco on flour. La Ericka and I ordered ordered carne asada on corn with everything. The gentleman running the grill was enthusiasticly talking to me about how he stokes the grill and the infusion of the mesquite flavor when the smoke and char hits the meat. The guy was spot on with his customer service and description of the grilling process. When we sat down to eat Riancito scarfed his taco down and We chomped puts. The first place we were going to eat wasn't open. The second place had incredibly bad service, so we left. We were not even supposed to eat here. But we were starving. I don't know, maybe that's what made the food taste so good. My kids had cheese quesadillas and chowed them down completely. I opted for the Barbacoa quesadilla - just cheese and Barbacoa in a tortilla, nothing else. Wow! I could not believe how tasty and tender the Barbacoa was! And it was gigantic - I did not even touch half of it. So I took it home and gave it to my son's nanny, and even she thought it was delicious. The tacos here are delicious!! I absolutely loved the flavor they get from the mesquite wood chips! Service has always been very nice and super quick! It's a small little space but the ambiance is very comfortable. I love stopping in here real quick on my way into work and getting three steak tacos. My favorite sauces to get is the guacamole and green salsa but they also have some spicier sauces for those of you who like it extra spicy. Favorite taco "chain". The smokey mesquite flavor is second to none! I usually get half chicken half steak tacos because I can never decide which one is better. The tacos come with your choice of chicken or steak then they will add cheese and "guac" if you'd like. The guac is not real guac, pretty much blended avocado but I still get it anyway. Then they have a toppings/add-ins bar which includes but isn't limited to cabbage, pico de gallo, cilantro, limes, onions, three different types of hot sauces. Giving you a good amount of variety. I frequent the Old Town Scottsdale location but this was my first time trying out the one on Mill Ave. This location is similar since you only can pick from Chicken and Steak as your protein. I typically get them both as a mixed taco. This location also allows you to get a burrito. I enjoy both the chicken and the steak however some pieces of chicken can me a little fatty/tough. Nonetheless still amazing flavor from the chicken being fire grilled. They have a plethora of free toppings including guacamole and sour cream! The only thing that will be additional is rice and/or beans if you choose to have them as a combo with your tacos/burritos. I went on a Friday night and it wasn't overly crowded however a line of about 5 people could have you waiting 10 minutes or so to be helped. This isn't bad compared to other spots on mill that may have much longer waits on a Friday night. read more

I would frequent the Mr. Mesquite's taco shop in Old Town Scottsdale and absolutely love them. Saw they had a location near my house on Mill Ave & was so excited. Tried this place 2 times. I thought maybe since I tried the quesadilla instead of the tacos (my usual) it wasn't good. Just tried the tacos, 3 of them, one of the had all fat and so much garnish on it, the next had 6 chunks of chicken & also full of garnish. Never again! This place has always been good. The chicken is outstanding and the red sauce will light you up. Beef is always good as well. I had suggested in passing a couple of times that, with the hours they keep, they should offer a breakfast burrito. Well, I do not take credit for it at all, but they started offering one with chorizo and potatoes and eggs just like I would order anywhere and, just like that, they knocked it out of the park. The flour tortillas are also fresh, delicious, and has a good texture which makes a good base for the tacos. There is also the corn tortilla options. I thought the marinade flavor of the meats are okay but the smokiness does make it taste better. I went on a Tuesday so they had taco Tuesday deals for $2.00 each. I recently had a meeting in Tempe and decided to stop by for a quick breakfast on mill ave and surprise surprise! Mr.Mesquite just opened its new location on Mill ave! I usually eat at Mr.Mesquite in old town since it's closer to my house but was not aware of their new location in Tempe. I'm loving this taco shop even more now as I just discovered that their new location offers a breakfast menu which is totally AWESOME!! Their tacos are seriously so good but the breakfast burrito that I had was AMAZING!! Huge plus for sitting space at this location so you can sit down and enjoy your food.
