I can't believe I've never reviewed Messenger! I love this place. I was once addicted to their slices, then I was addicted to their salad bar. I'm still addicted to their crack-filled Goddess dressing (Disclaimer: there is no actual crack in their dressing, but I cannot stop eating it. Additional disclaimer: I have never smoked crack) - especially poured over their fresh greens, beets and raisins. It's sounds weird but it's delicious - trust me. My latest addiction has to do with the addition of their wraps many moons ago. Just writing this review is making me crave their hummus and veggie wrap, which comes with chips and a cookie. For all the positives, there are two cons: 1. it gets incredibly busy and loud, and 2. the bathroom situation could be better. Still, when I move away from Nampa, Messenger will be at the top of the list of eateries I will miss! I better go get a hummus and veggie wrap now. You know, for old time's sake! read more

One of my favorite pizza places in he Treasure Valley! I have loved every different combination of pizza I've had from Messenger. I have ordered it by the slice or by the pie. I like their breadsticks and their breads. The garlic cheese breadsticks are my favorite, but I like the pesto ones as well. This place is bomb. I have never had a bad slice here, bad experience, bad beer, bad company. Everyone is great there, the front staff is knowledgeable and perky, and the kitchen must be having a great time because you'll hear them cracking jokes or singing. The pizza is incredible, the crust is chewy, the ingredients are fresh. This place rocks! The wife and my favorite pizza is the Chuck Norris. Their pepperoni is bomb too and they have some funky ones that are great as well like the Alpha Omega. Great place to get amazing food, great beer or local sodas and enjoy the scenery. read more

Unfortunately, service is not part of Messenger Pizza's mission. The pizza is higher quality, as compared to Pizza Hut, but the management's complete lack of service should be noted. I ordered 5 of their largest pies that cost me over $133 and asked to double slice them for smaller portions. The immediate answer I received from the "bosses" was, "no" - "the pizzas were already in the box." I responded asking the person at the front counter if their establishment liked having repeat customers based upon their level of service and the answer I received was, "sorry, I don't make the rules, my bosses do." It is too bad too, their pizza is pretty good, but their complete lack of consideration for such as small request is enough to keep me from returning. read more

ORIGINAL: Good tasting pizza and they actually have habenero on hand which is surprisingly rare for other pizza places. Great place by the slice. UPDATED: So today I stopped in and had something other than 'A Slice' and I guess you could say my habenero tinted glasses were pulled from my eyes. First of all let me set the scene, round noon on a Friday afternoon we walk up and maybe a third of the seats were occupied, no one in line. I enjoyed my last visit so I figured I'd try something new, something not 'by the slice' which is just code for the premade pizza's sitting under heat lamps they pull from to reheat. I ordered a 6 inch calzone, as did my partner while my 3 year old daughter got 'A Slice'. After some 30 minutes of awkwardly waiting at a metal table that sucked the warmth from your hands and forearms as you stare awkwardly across at other tables. This enjoyable experiance was interrupted every 5 minutes with some random staff asking "Waiting for a slice?". I kid you not every 5 minutes. Finally had to go, hey call me naive but I though I could have lunch down here, ya know in the amount of time most people have for lunch. So we get up to go, say bro need this to-go so we some awkwardly wrapped calzones and no bag or box mind you. Which made for a fun balancing act down the sidewalk. I was fortunate enough my partner noticed we didn't get our slice of pizza for the kid. So here came another 5 minutes, also forgot to cut it in half for the child... Get to the car and let the kid have at her's and I notice its a burnt greasy mess. I'd love to tell you about the calzone but by the time I had time again to eat it was cold and I decided to chalk that 5 dollars to a lesson learned. Maybe it's just me but I never see what others dig in these dive pizza joints that are all the rage. I mean the pizza on the first visit was good, but then so is Little Ceaser's or Pizza Hut when you really get down to "good" pizza. Looking around today I have to ask who are these people that really dig eating on thrift store furniture that clutter the restaurant as if it's some sort of coffee shop, leaving about 3 actually tables to eat at. Including that frigid metal one we grabbed, which we had to bus ourselves as it was the only place for us as a family to sit, can't forget that little tidbit. But I'm half tempted to order a pizza and let it sit on that table to time how long it goes from hot to frigid, I bet it could set some records! The best traditional thin-crust Italian style pizza I've ever eaten. I have been all over the planet to include Italy and Sicily and the pizza at Messengers Pizza emulates truly traditional Italian pizza. The food there is amazing and the attention to detail they take while baking is outstanding. If you like the real taste of Italy you should go eat at Messengers no one else even comes close except if you're overseas of course. read more

Normally we love Messenger Pizza. This week was a different story. We went in on Tuesday night at 8:30. No one greeted us, we waited up front for a few minutes before anyone came to the front counter. When the girl finally came to the counter she just looked at us and didn't say a word. We ordered a pizza and she asked the cook how long it would take to cook, they said 20 minutes. I asked what time they closed and she said 9. Seeing as it was so late I didn't want to be "those people." So we decided to get 3 slices of the pizza that was already cooked. I walked over to the salad bar and noticed everything but the lettuce was there. So I asked her if they don't have the salad bar right now. She said "yes we do, but not this late." Seriously, it's still 30 minutes until you close is what I'm thinking. So I walked back over to the register by my husband, he was asking for a beer. She never once asked us if we even wanted anything to drink. I was so irritated by the way this girl was acting towards us I wanted to walk out. She clearly didn't want us in there at all. She was annoyed we were in there and didn't want us there is how she made us both feel. I had to ask her for the soda I wanted. We paid and went and found a seat. She brought us our pizza a few minutes later and not once said a friendly word to us. More people even came in after us. The pizza was fine, the customer service was absolutely TERRIBLE. I work in customer service and I would never treat someone the way she did. We will go back again but I sure hope whoever is at the front counter does a better job. read more

He pops it in and turns up the volume. Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park starts playing in full force... Get ready Nampa. These cool cats are rolling in with style. Messenger is a quaint "pizza by the slice" place at the heart of Nampa. It has a casual hipster vibe. No arcade machines but almost a coffee shop kind of feel to it. They are playing Benjamin Clementine when we come in which I'm pretty impressed with. It looks like NY style at a glance but I'm hesitant to call it NY style because the taste and texture are pretty different. Tom and I each order a slice of pepperoni. I also get a Hawaiian and he gets a veggie. Veggie was supposed to be a slice of their spinach pizza but the cashier misheard and we just rolled with it. Four slices + two drinks comes out to $17; good price. Slices arrive almost instantly which is a plus. -Pepperoni- The pepperoni looks really good in my plate, but when I bite into it, I'm a little bit disappointed. No problem with the flavors, nice and classic, but the dough is extremely chewy. The texture is similar to a day-old baguette; day-old french bread is by no means stale but you do have to work your hands and your jaw quite a bit to tear a piece off and break it down in your mouth. Cheese is very nice. Peps are the flat kind, not our favorite. There is very little sauce. Wish there was more. -Hawaiian- Enjoyed this much more than the pepperoni. The real selling factor is that the ham is fresh. They use these large strips of ham from a legit butcher instead of the round slices you usually get. There's a nice smokey taste to it that blends well with the pineapple. Super chewy crust. -Veggie- The slice we didn't order is the best of the bunch. Like the ham on the Hawaiian, the mushrooms / spinach / onions taste recent and full of flavor. I also appreciate that there aren't too many toppings. Sometimes veggies have too much stuff and it just overwhelms. Here you could both pick apart the tastes of each topping, and experience the thing as a whole. Super chewy crust. -Verdict- Messenger has a great vibe, reasonable prices, good music. The pizza tastes good but the chewiness is a little off-putting. Recommend this place if you're in downtown Nampa looking for a late night dinner (open till 11). After waiting 15 min, my friend went back to ask about it.. they told us they forgot and it will be right out. Fifteen minutes later we asked again.. they had forgotten again. We did finally get the last slice.. and it was good. (not sure 30 minute wait good) I guess I could understand this if the place was full.. but there were only three customers. Our kids live in Nampa so we visit Messangers fairly often and even do take out. It's thin pizza with very interesting and nd healthy toppings. If you're looking for thick cheezy style pie then don't go here. Get it by the slice or order entire pies. It's kind of a crunchy granola type of place that you'll find anyone from beer drinkers to families. I love the pizza by the way, I'm a big fan. Here's a hint... order pizza a bit extra cooked (well done) and second hint order with bacon. Everything needs bacon. Trust me on these. The root beer is amazing too, it has real sugar. Custom pizzas are easily ordered but depending on the time of day you order, it may take a bit to get yours. And speaking of getting your own "whole" pizza, be warned. This was my first time at the establishment and went away full. They have multiple option to choose from when selecting a pizza. You can order by the slice, have a pizza made or even call ahead so it's ready and waiting for you when you arrive. For the gluten sensitive individuals they have a crust for you. I would recommend calling ahead to make sure they know your coming. It didn't appear they had individual slices in gluten free crust, but I also didn't ask. I ordered a slice of an herb chicken and spinach pizza which was good, but the crust was a little on the dry side. I found myself dipping my pizza in ranch for a little extra moisture. The size of the individual slice was very large so I shared with my spouse. They have a salad bar that had a fair amount of vegetables, a couple cheese options and several dressings. It was just an ok salad bar, but nothing to write home about. The drink selection include soda, beer on tap as well as bottles and cans of different beverages. I was so excited when a friend of mine reccomended this place. She said they had a "great salad bar". Wellllllllll if you consider a 4 foot long cart with few salad makings- and I mean very few-"great"- you have some really low standards. I love salad, I am a vegetarian so its part of a lot of my meals out, for me to pass on it speaks VOLUMES. Sooooo I ordered a Pizza, my husband got a couple individual slices. I love Pizza, I could live on Pizza, its one of my favorite foods in the whole world- I had one slice of it, took the Pizza home and THREW IT OUT. Hubby could not stand his, we stopped at Jack in The Box afterwards so he could get food. I think the chef mistook their cardboard pizza boxes for the crust and put the cheese on it and cooked it by mistake. I have served my dogs biscuits that were more tender then this hard crust. They have alot of DIFFERENT options..... meaning outside the box kind of pizza which I find great, even with the sandwiches and wraps. Spectacular! Found this place on a whim. HUGE slices with delicious unique toppings. I love in Boise and frequent guidos and pie hole. But messenger gives them a run for their money. Especially since they have a salad bar as well and a larger menu with soups and sandwiches. I will definitely be make the trip to Nampa just for this place. Every time I am in town, I have to come here as this place gives me immense hope for Downtown Nampa. The salad bar is pretty great- and the pizza that must be tried is the amazing fig pizza in all its glory of greens, balsamic vinegar, and tangy cheese.
