I have seven pairs of cowboy boots and needed three fixed up after years of abandonment. I had the bottoms of black Justin's changed out and also cleaned up. They had dirt on them for over a year, and the tip of the toes was no longer black. They look as good as new now. I also took in a pair of Tony Lamas to get the bottoms fixed as they had a hole in them. And a pair of Circle G boots; the heels were worn out and needed to be replaced. My husband loves his black leather shoes which are finally "broken in" and feeling like good, old comfortable shoes; unfortunately, he found a small hole on the left shoe, but he continued to wear those comfortable shoes and causing some threads to be torn loose from the sole. When we took the shoe to Messina Shoe Repair, the man didn't think he could fix it. We assured him that we didn't expect perfection because my husband just want to be able to continue wearing these comfortable old shoes. Took a pair of leather shoes in. The heels were fine but the leather sole under the ball of the foot was wearing out. I asked the owner how much and he said $49.95 for half the sole, $59.95 for a full sole. When I looked at him sideways (for half of a sole) and said that seemed high, he spouted off 3 of his canned spin lines. "Nordstroms shoes are $350!" he said. I said: "I'm not at Nordstrom's and I'm not buying new shoes,so that isn't relevant to the price your charging........If you want me to understand your explanation - how does your work compare in price to area shoe repair competitors?" "That's the cost of living in the world we live in.....The Wall Street journal says we are the best value in America!" was his reply. "What are you talking about?" I said. "Shoe Repair!" was the answer. "$50 seems high for a half sole....." I said. "My cousin charges $10 more than I do" said the owner. " I don't care......" I said. I called 5 shoe repair shops within 5 miles when I got home and they were all $40 for the same work. I wont be going back and I didn't appreciate the wise ass spin. I really hate giving local businesses bad reviews, but in this instance I have to. Twice I've taken in shoes for repair, one was reattaching sole that was pulling away from the main part of the shoe and the other was fixing the heel of the shoe. Both times, the job was so poorly done that the shoes weren't worth wearing again. When I took the shoes to have the soles reattached, I also asked that the insole (or whatever you call it on heels) be replaced because it was starting to bunch up. When I got them back the insole had been replaced, but a very poorly done job, it looked like a child had been given the task to cut out a please of leather (or whatever it was) and that piece was glued down. As for the sole, it wasn't even really reattached, but simply glued back into place, so that the first time I wore them they fell apart within minutes. The second pair (yes I believe in giving second chances) was a pair of heels I loved in which the black covering on the heel was pulling away. Took them in, picked them up a week later and they had simply glued the piece back into place. That's NOT a real repair!! Apparently, this place is only capable of repairing cowboy boots, because my brother has had a couple of pair resoled her without any problems, but as for me, never again! read more

If I could chose 0 stars I would! I brought Valentino pumps for sole protection to his place, based on high rated reviews and I am sooo disappointed! My shoes are now ruined!!! I have all the pictures before and after! He damaged the leather with his sand paper and when I asked what happened and why, he said it is an extremely hard job to do (person who claims doing shoe repairs for over 30 years!)! Seriously?? Why did you agreed to do it then??? When I explained my concerns, I got only "I am sorry! It is really hard job and we did the best we could". What a disaster! The sole protector is thick and is poorly placed all the way over toward the heel, sides are roughly sanded damaging near by leather. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO BRING YOUR NICE SHOES TO THIS PLACE! They have no idea how to handle it! I had multiple shoes put sole protection on and this is by far the worst job I have ever received! read more

I have a handmade leather messenger bag from Kenya that I've carried daily for years. It had finally started coming apart where the strap is sewn to the bag itself. I love this thing and desperately needed it repaired before an upcoming work trip. Nancy and company couldn't have been more accommodating, helpful, and welcoming. I dropped the bag off and within a few hours Nancy called and let me know they had gone ahead and gotten it done right away for me! Couldn't be happier! Messina is a such a blessing! I injured my leg (especially my heel) due to dangerous conditions in front of the FB Church of Chris while riding my bicycle. This was two days before school started; I am a teacher. The guy at Messina knew exactly what to do to help me. I followed his recommendations and was able to go to school and not miss a day during the year. I have been going there for many years and have always received great service. If he can't fix something (like a zipper), he tells me. He doesn't try to do it, if he knows it won't work. I had a spot on a suede jacket once. I took it to several area dry cleaners, but no one wanted to try to help. The lady at Messina told me to use some cleaner they have. I used it and the spot came right out. Time for an update. About two weeks ago, I took a pair of cordovan Ecco slip ons to this shop since I have been here on multiple occasions. I asked to have them dyed black to avoid having to purchase new black pair of Ecco's at $135. The gentleman dyed my shoes, both inside and out, and only charged me $20!! So, I saved $115 and the shoes looked like new. The craftsmanship and value this Messina shop offers is beyond compare! I never have to wonder about the work to be done. I have taken a suede jacket in for a jagged tear down the front of jacket and when I picked it up, I could not tell which side had the tear!
