From my first conversation with Angee, I knew I was in good hands. She was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and made the booking process so easy. We hired them for my husband's birthday party and WOW, they exceeded every expectation. They arrived on time, were organized and professional, and the food was phenomenal. We ordered tapas, three different paellas, and sangria, and every single dish was a hit with our guests. The garlic shrimp was unforgettable, the croquetas were perfectly crispy and cheesy, and the paellas were packed with flavor and generous portions of seafood and meats. The seafood paella especially had everyone going back for seconds and thirds! Even the sangria tasted authentic and refreshing. What made the experience even better was how warm and friendly Angee, Christian, and Oscar were with all of our guests. This place has some smashing paella. They catered at my workplace and there were vegetarian (artichokes, mushrooms, peas, chickpeas, green beans) and signature (chicken, beef, pork, shrimp). It was extremely tasty and well-done. The food itself was very good. The reason I gave it only three stars is because the execution was poor. The vegetarian paella came out first, which I got, but the signature paella was nearly 45 minutes late. When my co-workers finally received their signature paella, it was piping hot-- surely had been just freshly made. I been following them for sometime and finally got to try them at the 626 night market. I had really high hopes but I was a little disappointed. I got the OG and it was packed w meat! Chorizo and chicken. Loved the corn and peas in it! Great ratio of everything. Came w 4 breaded shrimp- not a fan of the breaded part. It was $30 a plate!!!! Def not worth it! I wouldn't come back. On my final Pastel order, I added an item from here on the recommendation of a friend who tried their vegetarian version of their signature dish. Contrary to their instructions (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5raJgmn6o-IVrTrEbNqKHA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) as I do not like using a microwave, I placed it in a baking pan, added a few drops of water, and covered it with foil. I squirted the lemon juice and dipped the various proteins into the provided aioli and had this for dinner. It was delicious flavor wise and definitely generous with the pork, chicken, Spanish chorizo, and shrimp (five or six tail-on deveined ones). I could only finish half of it since I paired it with a bowl of soup. There were some bits of rice that were crunchy, one of my favorite parts of having paella at a restaurant, scraping the crispy rice from the pan. I have been lucky enough to work with Mestizo Paella to cater daughter's birthday 2 times. These guys are very easy to work with and provide amazing food and service at a fair pricing. We love the squid ink, mixta, and vegetarian paella. We also loved the all meat paella. I have tried the meat lovers, seafood, negra, Valencia con pollo and signature paellas. Personally, the signature is my favorite. I found Mestizo Paella on Instagram. We were looking at Hawaiian-ish food local pop ups and saw that they were one of the vendors at a pop up that we were going to attend. I love Paella and had been wanting to host a Paella Party for my besties. We went and tried their paella it was good enough to hire them to caterer my Summer Solstice- post Covid party, YAY! Huge fan of Angee and Christian, the owners, and what they're cooking. Their recipes are handed down from within the family and come from Spain, and they're delicious!! Highly recommend trying any of their paellas (best I've ever had, even reheated the next day) - the garlic sauce they make is insanely flavorful. Great for catering, too! We had Mestizo Paella cater my dad's surprise 70th birthday and man was the food delicious.
