Totally pleasant experience. Wandered in on a Sat afternoon. It took a while to get a drink order in but all was smooth sailing basically. Nice location on the river on a sunny day. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger with fries and a mind haze brew. Ordered the burger mostly medium if that is what barely not pink was. It was a bit pinker than I expected but that's fine. I'd rather a little under than over cooked. The fries were very good as well. Good food priced fairly. I have to say a $15.00 for the burger and fries it was one of the bigger and tastier burgers I've had lately and in McHenry for sure. The tap beers had three choices domestics and 7-8 craft choices. Today I tried the caesar salad, the dressing is on point (its a classic take on a teaditional caesar salad), its a large portion of romaine lettuce chopped, and the parmesan cheese goes nicely with the tomatoes wedges. The tomato basil (bisque) was soup of the day, and I really enjoyed. The food here is comforting and flavorful. The Metalwood grill is a hidden gem! Open to the public, on the river, great views and a fantastic patio. The staff is fantastic. Spencer is an awesome bartender and all around great person! The food is very good and reasonably priced. The 1/2 pound or 1lb of shrimp that is boiled, shells removed and served chilled on ice is tasty and a great value! My wife and I enjoy a lunch here every week or two in the summer. Looking forward to the Friday fish fry! read more

I'm so glad we got to try this place out with a fun experience! We reserved a spot for dinner in their inflated igloos. It was nicely decorated for the holiday season and even had a Bluetooth speaker you could hook your phone up to. They had 2 space heaters in there and it was very comfortable temperature wise even though it was a chilly night outside. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, we had great service. As for covid things- they take your temp before you get seated, require masks in the building, and sanitizer is placed throughout the building and outside the igloos. As for the food it was pretty good! Especially the apps, we loved the nachos and the margarita flatbread. There were many tasty options and I would definitely return even without the igloos. I get it. Staffing is short. Solutions - stop having events and ruining the most special day of a couple's life. Turn down the event instead of providing service that is subpar to poor. Hire better. Train better. Plan better. I am truly sorry that I gave this place a positive review when the groom asked my opinion. It should've been a true warning sign when I had to track down someone to give them a return call to schedule. Such a poorly managed venue. Look for alternatives. read more

Easter brunch 2023 - Terrible, terrible experience!!! DO NOT COME HERE FOR BRUNCH!!! Long, long line outside while being seated, to be followed by an extremely long line trying to get food. Management didn't take control when people started getting in line in the wrong direction, and tried to blame it on the guests. Food was so-so. Came here because they had ham, but found it to be a chunk of processed ham. Ugh! To add insult to injury, we had to wait over a 1/2 hour to get our bill, which was for 6 people. We only had a party of three! It was a very unpleasant experience for Easter, causing some people to leave before eating. read more

We came for a surprise birthday party in the igloo. It came with 2 box heaters that barely worked. Pretty dark with tacky Valentine's decor. I ordered the Ruben sandwich, you're probably thinking why I would order that. Haha I was craving a Ruben at the time. It had to be the worse sandwich I've ever had. My 7 year old can make a better sandwich. My food arrived cold. The sandwich was so salty I thought I was sipping salt water. Love this place! I have been here twice with different parties having various meals. EVERYONE thought the food was delicious! The wait staff is friendly and on the ball. Decided on a whim to try this place. Huge mistake. Huge. I don't know where to begin, but let's start with the place was nicely redecorated like I haven't been there in years and I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully decorated it was, that was the highlight. The waitress was amazing. I unfortunately ordered the Ruben, the meat was totally under cooked rubbery, almost choked me. Then to add insult to injury they decided to also grill it to warm it up which then just made it crispy chewy rubbery and gummy. My boyfriend got the Ahi seared tuna, completely overcooked. I should've listen to The waitress when she mistakenly told me that they've change the sandwich because people complained about it but I just went with it, thinking how bad could it have been. it's bad don't ever get it. we had the margarita flatbread that was fantastic. The bartender may have been knew because she didn't know what an UP drink meant, but she knows now. I ordered a Mojito but they didn't have mint which is fine so they came up with like a concoction that ended up being quite tasty and left me a little tipsy which I appreciated. We i've been going to Metalwood Grille for the last few years just for dinner. This month we had the opportunity to have an event catered there. We hosted our mom's celebration of life in the smaller party room. First of all Monica is amazing to work with. The Room's view was absolutely stunning, the staff went above and beyond to meet and exceed our expectations and even the ordering and payment process was seamless. The chef and his team prepared the most delicious meal and everyone did nothing but compliment us the whole day and after. Whatever small touches we wanted, Monica and the staff made happen. One of the great finds in McHenry County dining. This restaurant at McHenry Country Club is now open to the public and rightly so. We were there on a Friday night and my wife had the Cod Fish Fry that was second to none in the area. Great batter, fresh cut fries and a solid cole slaw all made this a great dish. We started with a great beet salad which we split and was wonderful. I had the weekly special Short Ribs w/mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. The gravy and carrots were fantastic and the meat was moist and tender. This a great addition to the McHenry dining scene. Easter, 2024 was a huge disappointment. It was Very overpriced and most of food was cold. The dessert table had hardly anything on it and did not have any plates. The items advertised were not there, just two small plates of Macaroons. The Advertisement was misleading and I feel not clear enough tantamount to False Advertising. The price was $59.00 per person with a 22% gratuity when we served ourselves and were waited on by a bus girl, who was sweet and admitted she did not know too much about the menu. Furthermore, the Ad read that if we left too much food on the plate, (which would be decided by management) we would have to pay extra for that. The Crux of the matter were the Mimosa's. In the Ad it seemed as if they were included. When they were served, we were told they were $5.00 each and my friend refused hers and it sat untouched for the entire time we were at Brunch. The staff said that we had to pay because they were poured. When the bill came they were $9.00 each not the $5.00 we were originally quoted. The Robust manager came to our table and said she would bring the Ad. She returned without the Ad 45 minutes later and I found it online. She and our table had differing opinions that would never be resolved. She said we had to pay for the Mimosa's. I countered with I could always dispute the price of the Mimosa's. The furious Manager finally said she would remove the cost of the drinks. She apologized over and over. I did not accept her apology as she was the Manager not the Owner of Metalwood Grill. Finally, we were issued a receipt but no place to sign and no pen. Since I had secured the reservation with a credit card, I thought it would be charged. We left after waiting between 10 and 15 minutes for someone to return to our table. Then At 7pm, Easter Evening, the Manager, I presume, starting texting ranting that we left without paying. She went on and on saying she would call the Police, we wanted something for nothing, etc. and that she was going to charge us for the Mimosa's. At no time did I text that I would not pay, finally she stopped after I said, Stop. This morning I checked my Credit Card and I was charged. Actually, I almost wish she would have taken me to Court so that the whole Courtroom would know not to dine at Metalwood Grille. Please do not roll the dice and dine here, you may have a terrible experience. read more

The worst!! Our Igloo was quadruple booked!! The Hostess was A sneaky one!' She said out loud it's so overbooked!! Then took people in front and behind me. Then could have cared less about my confirmation So rude ruined our Anniversary. So, The next day the owner Lynn called early in the morning and apologized!! Thank you for am amazing dinner! Our server was Gracie and she was fantastic'. Some had the prime rib and it was mouth watering and huge even the queen cut! So much we had to take it home. One of party had the salmon it was so good all eaten and the garlic mashed and spinach so good! Ribs were delicious and steak out of this world! Love that Metalwood Grille installed piers for us boaters ! Very convenient. Food was good and wine pours were awesome however, the wedding band in the banquet area was quite over powering. I requested that the overhead music be turned off while the band was playing but the server did not. Definitely NOT a relaxing dinner at all. Need more chips with the Nachos. Too soggy. The worse experience in a very long time. I do understand places are short staffed but this was awful. Took well over an hour for our food to get to the table. One diner found plastic in his fries, another ribs were all fat, another cold hard potato, very dry dish, cold pasta, forgotten salad and when it did finally arrive, the chicken was ice cold. Terrible service and luke warm baked fish. Went on a Friday night, didn't make reservations so expected to wait to be seated, however the hostess was able to seat us right away. We were sitting for 20 min before I had to get up to get own menus. Had to wait a bit for food to come out, which is the new norm. Food came out but we couldn't eat because they never brought silverware either, which I got up for get. When I said something to our sever she was rude and did not take accountability. Our water was NEVER refilled. As we were leaving, the manager talked to us and said we should've made reservations and he stated we sat ourselves. I quickly corrected him that the server sat us. He said we should've never been seated. Don't really know what to say about that, then don't seat us. He ended up apologizing. My first experience at this place indicates we were an inconvenience for eating there. Two positives are sweet potato fries were good and nice scenery, but can get that at many places. read more
