Metazoa Brewing Company is such a cute and laid-back spot! I love that it's dog-friendly, which makes it the perfect place to hang out, grab a drink, and bring your furry friend along. One of my favorite things about the location is the view! You can see the beautiful downtown Indianapolis skyline right from the brewery, which makes the atmosphere feel a little extra special, especially on a nice day. The overall vibe is super relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of space to just hang out and enjoy yourself. Metazoa Brewing has a little bit of everything for everyone. Can't speak to their own beers since I don't partake, but they do offer Untitled Arts N/A beers and soft drinks. The bartenders are always helpful with sharing their current offerings. Metazoa is famously dog friendly, and 5% of profits go towards benefitting shelter dogs. They allow dogs inside the premises and have a dog park outside. The seating is a mix of high top and low tables with plenty of space for the whole crew. Full disclosure: I am allergic to pet dander, and this place is basically a dog convention. We are talking wall to wall, ear to ear, tail to tail dogs everywhere you look. One too many deep breaths in there, and I am down for the count for at least 2 days. So yes, I visited at my own risk, and I regret nothing. We popped in to grab a four-pack of beer for my nephew and ended up sampling a few while we were at it because that is just what you do. The woman who helped us was an absolute gem, so warm and friendly that I genuinely wished I could come back just to see her again (wealth of knowledge). If you go, I hope you get her. NO, I don't remember her name. From what I could take in between trying not to breathe too deeply, this place is wonderful. The Craft Brewers Conference in Indianapolis this year brought me to a few different breweries (mostly for the after-conference events). But one that I made sure to stop by on my first day outside of the actual events was Metazoa. I hadn't heard much about them, but saw them as an option to pick up the commemorative beer and decided to give them a shot. I was excited (so much so that I sent pictures to MANY people) that they are super dog friendly. To the point that most of their beer names are dog / animal adjacent. They also have a pet of the month, which is just absolutely adorable. I enjoyed a flight of their beers while I waited for the first day's event. Metazoa is such a fun spot for dog owners! I'd definitely recommend bringing your pup as long as they're comfortable being around other dogs. Mine can get a little anxious with close proximity, so we hung back and dog-watched from afar, and they did totally fine. We came on a weekend so there were a lot of pups to see! They were welcome inside too, which was great while my friend and I played games, tried a couple beers on tap, and ordered a flight. My wife, Dog, and Son went to Minnesota brewing company. you order at the bar. we tried several beers, all were delicious. We did not eat at the food truck. Our dog loved the fenced in outdoor park. They have water for the dogs. we sat inside and our dog got to socialize. There are very friendly people. Of course folks with dogs are always friendly. Discovered Metazoa after having a Puppy Slumber party draft beer at Broad Ripple Tavern. This is a good stout. So finally was able to check out their brewery. Really nice location with parking spots. If you love dogs. you're going to love this place. Ambience is chill. Service at the bar is great. You just have to check your tabs as they mistakenly added a drink that I didn't order but once pointed out, they were able to resolve the issue without hassle. The only downside here is there's not much food option if you're hungry. Other than that, a great place for drinks and to hang out with man's bestfriend. read more

Metazoa has awesome beer and they have a couple of seltzer options too if you're not into beer. They don't serve food so dogs are welcome. They have a FREE dog park out back too. So hard to find a free dog area anymore. They have food trucks on weekends - make sure to follow on social media so you know when they'll be there. We brought our one dog that is okay with dogs and he was pretty overwhelmed even still. Please only bring your dog if they are well behaved and really like other dogs and people. Even without dogs, it can be overstimulating for me to be here when it's super packed. I prefer weekdays when it's not so busy :) This last trip, my car's axel broke in the parking lot and we were unable to move it out of the way until a tow truck came. I am with a nationwide rescue. All the dog parks in Indianapolis need certified to get in. We were picking up 2 Irish Wolfhound puppies and 1 Older female. We just needed a spot to potty break and to exchange them. I live in Missouri the rescues were from 2 different states. You know the saying "it takes a village". I often feel like I am inconveniencing the bartender by asking for a drink. We were in a Sunday afternoon and stood in line for a drink for quite a while without being acknowledged by staff. A friendly "We'll be right with you" while you finish up a task can go a long way. It's different staff every time I go in, otherwise I would ignore the interaction entirely. The regulars are so nice and welcoming which you don't get at some bars. They do not offer food as they allow you to bring your animals inside but there is usually a food truck out back! Lots of seating out in the dog park & inside for whatever you're in the mood for. The dog park isn't huge by any means but it's perfect for your pup to get some exercise & socialize with others while you're still able to keep a close eye on them. One of my friends mentioned going to the Disney Trivia here not long ago. Sure! Sign me up! Well, I knew parking was going to be tricky. The parking lot is small and people were parking in places that weren't even parking spots which made it hard to leave. I found a spot and when you walk in you have a nice view of the dog park and the skyline. When you head inside you see games you can take and play at the table. Having coming from work and the others in our group that hadn't had dinner either we thought maybe they would have some food trucks. Well, they had one. It was a vegetarian one. Not that that's bad that wasn't what we all wanted. They don't serve any food inside which is a real bummer. So, we had to figure out that it would be easier for one of us go pick up our food versus pay the ridiculous prices for delivery! That is a major drawback to this place not serving food inside. Oh, and it's 21+ also so keep that in mind. Being that 3 out of the 4 of us are not big beer drinkers it was hard to find something to drink also. We chose some hard seltzer drink I can't remember the name of it It was pink and good. For the interior lots of tables and lots of people with their dogs. They give 5% back to animals and wildlife organizations. Which is good! I didn't really know what was going on in the area behind us. Dogs were standing on the tables and it seemed like a free for all. I didn't like that if you're going to come and eat at that table you've had dogs walking all over it. For the Disney trivia a couple of the questions were sounds you had to listen to and that was really hard to hear over everyone talking. The questions some were easy most of them were pretty hard. You needed to have watched a lot of the newer movies. :-/ Overall, it's ok. If they had more options on things to eat and drink it might be better. I have been to this place a few times and they always have a lot going on. It is a very fun place and is the most dog friendly spot you will find. I felt out of place that I did not have a dog. They have a small dog park in the park, just off of the parking lot. Additionally, some of their proceeds go to dog related charities. The dog park was packed when I was there. The restaurant has a nice patio area and a resident food truck, Old Gold Barbecue. The place has bar seating, a taproom, and tables just along the outside. You will find televisions all around the bar and dining area that are usually playing sports. As you would expect, they have a wide selection of bottled beer and beer on tap. The bar is very clean. It was really impressed. In addition, to their adult beverages, they allow patrons to bring their own food in or have it delivered. This is a nice and trendy brewery and as I mentioned, has a lot going on. I have even ran a few 5Ks here. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the place has a really cool vide. If you are with or without a pooch this is a place worth checking out. You can watch a game, while hanging out with good friends and sipping on a savory adult beverage. read more

Despite how busy it gets, the beer-tenders are really friendly and patient with sampling and any questions you may have. Beer is good, dogs are good, highly recommend. From out of town and decided to pop in for a beer at Metazoa. I'm 53 years old and I look my age, and I do understand that some places still have to check ID. But this lady scrutinized my ID for several minutes...so much so that I thought she was joking. When I jokingly said "oh is this an Indiana thing?" She said "no, it's a USA thing" and shoved my ID back in my face. Not sure what that was all about, but this lady clearly needs to venture out to some breweries outside of Indiana...cuz this is not a thing. I tried this little spot on my way to the airport. Excellent brewery in what looks like a cool upcoming area of town. The staff was friendly. It was slow on a Thursday afternoon, but the brewery could accommodate a large crowd inside and out. By far the coolest feature was a huge outdoor dog park with a live feed into the brewery. What a damn brilliant idea. I go to a lot of breweries and have never seen this before and I don't understand why. It's such a great idea. The beer was decent. Not amazing, but good. Pretty unique bar that allows dogs and runs frequent events of all sorts--weekly trivia on Tuesdays ($5 per team to play), painting, cake decorating, holiday parties, etc. The parking lot can get pretty tight, so pack some patience and be prepared to park on College Ave. You can bring in your own food, order cluster truck for delivery, or enjoy from the food truck parked outside (it's been vegan recently and I haven't tried it myself). Options are pretty limited for those who don't enjoy beer. I've had their cherry limeade pander bear seltzer and the all to whale apple cider seltzer, but haven't particularly been impressed with either. I'd love to see a more fruit-forward cider and/or new seltzer flavor. read more

I have to be honest. I only came for the bunnies! I visited this past Saturday to partake in bunny yoga. This was my second time visiting the establishment and my experience was great each time. At the end of the yoga session, attendees were able to order a beer from the bar. I hate the taste of beer, but I knew they offered a number of different flavors and I decided to go with the Cherry Limeade Pander Bear. It was actually pretty tasty and did not have the traditional beer taste. Overall, Metazoa is a cool place to visit, even if you're not a beer drinker. I had such a good experience here with my friends! We came to watch the College Football National Championship game. M friends and I got some pitchers to share. Pups & brews, what more can I ask for?! Metazoa Brewing Company is one of the many breweries in Indianapolis but the only one I had the pleasure of visiting while I was there. My friend has a pup so we decided to have some girl time and let little Mochi run out her energy with some furry friends in their dog park. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. If you are hungry, they have a BBQ food truck outside with some BOMB BBQ. That says a lot considering I'm not a huge fan of BBQ myself but their brisket was *chefs kiss*. The dog park is pretty spacious and has artificial turf. There are mostly big dogs (at least during my visit) that come here but everyone is super friendly with the best behaved dogs. I had a couple of beers but my absolute favorite (like absolute favorite beer of all-time) was discovered here. I love the Trash Panda- a vanilla latte-inspired blonde ale. I feel like coffee beers are usually porters so I was so surprised how light and coffee-like this beer tasted. I'm not the most well-versed when it comes to brews but if this is a usual thing, I am so in. Until my next trip to Indy, I will be craving the Trash Panda. read more

I love this location, and since I had been last they have expanded their outdoor seating which is perfect for the nice weather. If you haven't been check this place out soon, they have a wide variety of craft beer that ranges from light to dark and all of it is tasty. We stopped off and hung out on the patio for some time after the Italian fest, I ended up getting a beer flight which I love to do because it gives you a variety of flavors and then you can get a true pint of what you truly enjoy. I won't be returning. I recently visited the College Avenue taproom after work for a beer. This was my third or fourth time visiting this year. On this occasion, I was asked to show my ID. I did, and was told that I couldn't be served. My drivers license had expired a couple of weeks ago (this was news to me, I had overlooked the expiration). The bartended followed the ID check with a snippy "in fact, you'll need to leave the premises immediately." I was in fact leaving. I found this rude. I am 54 years old and definitely don't look a day under 40. Here is the statement from the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco commission about checking ID's: "Indiana law requires permittees and their employees to check identification of any person under the age of 40 when conducting carryout sales. While there is no similar ID requirement law for on-premise consumption, the Excise Police encourage requiring identification from anyone appearing under 26 years of age when making sales for on-premise consumption. Acceptable forms of identification are picture ID's, including but not limited to, a driver's license, state-issued ID card, US Government identification. REMEMBER: If you still question the age of the person you should refuse to serve them." Thus, being asked to leave the premises is not a requirement of state law. Metazoa also has a small dog park, and I have noticed many people there with their pets, not drinking beer. Were these folks carded to be on the premises? Doubtful. I read Metazoa's online code of conduct and FAQ's and did not see anything about leaving the premises without a current ID. I am clearly over 50 years old. The employee who did not serve me may have been doing her job, but her legalistic response and verbal tone made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome and I will not be returning. I have many choices in Indy to enjoy a craft beer after work. read more

We arrived at 4pm for a "Brew Crew" sampling and the parking lot had plenty of room. I took advantage of their "Happy Hour" but we also tried offerings from their other boards as well. There are good choices on all 3 menu boards. light, malty and hoppy so good variety including some flavored seltzers as well. The bartenders are very friendly and also appear honest as one member lost their wallet and it was later found and held at the bar. They have dog park adjacent to the outdoor terrace. It's great to see the pups. There is no food offered by Metazoa but you are welcome to bring or order in delivery. They have a food truck invited most nights, that evening it was Porkopolis and it was very good. Just have to roll the dice and Hope you get a good food truck. There is PLENTY of room in the building so you won't feel packed in there. HOWEVER parking will possibly be an issue later in the evening or during televised sporting events or parties/events. That means you may have to use street parking. I contacted Metazoa as their Happy Hour offerings did not appear clear to me on their web or in bar info.
