Cost me $130 for the inspection. The guy didn't really know what he was doing. I had to tell him to check the compressor. He'd only checked the capacitor and couldn't figure out why the condenser kept tripping the circuit breaker. It was the bad compressor that was drawing too much power. If I hadn't told him to check the compressor, I would have been out $130 and no closer to knowing what was wrong with my AC. Once WE had figured out what was wrong, he told me it would be $4900 to replace the compressor and immediately tried to steer me toward replacing the entire condenser. I got two quotes from them this week for condenser replacement. One was $8900 with a Trane unit and the other was $9050 with a Lenox unit. I ended up going with another company, which is charging me $2900 to just replace the compressor. That's $2000 less than the Lakeside H & AC quoted me for the same work. I did have to pay $120 for a second inspection but it was worth it. I might have been able to get my AC working again for even less money with another company but after being without AC for 10 days during a heat wave, I was ready to just get the work done. Here's some VERY important information about HVAC: Private equity firms are moving into this sector and driving prices through the roof. The bigger the company, the flashier their vans, the more likely they're owned by one of these firms and if you go with them you'll be paying WAY more than you have to. Again, shop around! Go with small companies or even a single guy with a beat-up, old van. You might even be able to find one that won't charge you for the inspection or at least charge you less. Chances are they'll do just as good a job if not better and they'll do it for A WHOLE LOT less.

Fifteen years is near end-of-life and I would rather replace at our convenience and not on a burning hot July day. I contacted B&B via the form on their website and they called back within 20 minutes. Frank (sales rep) came for a visit that afternoon. We discussed all the possible actions and both of us decided the best option would be a direct A/C replacement. The important factors were 1) our A/C unit was on the roof, 2) you don't save a lot of money ($50-80/year) by spending more for a higher SEER. Frank came back the next day with a quote for 3 options: direct replacement, 2) slightly more efficient A/C, 3) heat pump for a much higher list price. But, Carrier's discount and Xcel's huge rebate made the heat pump the cheapest option. We live in a duplex so we and our neighbors decided to both replace the A/C with heat pumps. About $6100 including everything. We did do more research--just to be sure. Scheduling was easy via emails (we had to coordinate 2 households) and B&B sends text reminders, etc. We paid via ACH because "A convenience fee of 2.5% will be added to any credit card transaction." They came on time as scheduled. The crane hoisted the new equipment onto the roof and removed the old. The crew was friendly and kept us informed about the process. Completed within 2 days. Our 2 story house is roughly 3300 sq ft including the basement. The builder previous name William Lyon at the time installed all the homes with a 2.5 Ton Rheem A/C. Based on my amateur research a 3000 sq ft house should of required a 4-5 Ton system to effectively cool the house. After just one year the A/C was not cooling down below 75. TM warranty department called Eastside and sent out Efren the tech to diagnose the problem he found out the TXV (thermal expansion valve) was bad and ordered the part for replacement. Efren came back a week later and replaced the part and he was very detailed and friendly and even cleaned the coils inside the A/C fan. Now the A/C is much better and I can cool down to 70 degrees on a hot day. I've heard conflicting answers on wether or not to close vents in basement for more airflow to upstairs. What I did is I kept one basement vent open but closed rest of them and upstairs does indeed get more cooler air. One more thing I learned is that A/C systems do not draw fresh air from the outside instead they recirculate indoor air. With all the recent smoke pollution, it's actually better to keep windows closed and use A/C. Even though I believe our builder A/C is undersized for the house, but the team at Eastside have been very helpful and professional and I highly recommend them for HVAC work. The furnace was installed on time and for a reasonable price. They, however, did a slipshod job of creating a place for the air filter. The incoming air just goes around the air filter instead of through it. Unfiltered air going into my new furnace motor will drastically shorten the motors life. Zach said he would get it fixed. A month later, after several guarantees to repair the problem, the situation has not been rectified. Warning... Be careful about having this guy in your home. He offers a free inspection of total heating space to ensure you are buying the right size furnace. But, while he is there, he is looking at your art and making judgments about you and your family. Then, he goes back to his office and researches you as an individual via the Internet. In my case, he found an adult industry tie. All absolutely unnecessary to install a furnace. Before he sent his installers to my house, he briefed them on the art in my home and what he found on the Internet. Then, while in MY home, installing a furnace, his installers had lengthy conversations with my minor daughter about what they been briefed on by Zach. They questioned her about the art in the house and various other embarrassing and unnecessary topics. I highly recommended you avoid Zack and Go Green Heating and Air Conditioning. I have filed a complaint with the BBB since he refuses to repair the problem he agreed was a problem. He needs to keep his Christian values out his customers homes and discussing things with customers children is a major etiquette violation of reasonable and ethical business practices. Zack has replied saying my daughter must have overheard the installers talking outside. It was 8 degrees outside that morning and she never left the house. The younger of the two installers was simply sitting around, in the house, chatting with her. The installers NEVER should have discussed anything with her whatsoever. Much less, adult topics and the warnings they had received. He refers to the photos in my house as "pornography". Boudoir nudes are NOT pornography. He says he briefed the installers on the the content of my art so they could decide if they wanted to exposed to such things. The installers would never had any reason to be in my upstairs master bedroom. They came in the front door and went right to the basement. They would never had known they were even there if Zack had not felt it necessary to make a big deal out of it. His own installers said my house was not at all what they had been briefed to expect. You can see from Zach's reply that he does, indeed, personally judge his clients. You can see what he had to say in response. His job was to measure my house for proper heat loading. Not to judge me then have my daughter briefed on his opinion. Just one mans opinion. Update... It is now February 2013 and my heater is still running without a filter system.

I looked it up on google and it suggested the price of the part was about $25. Now mind you, I had no trip cost, as he was already on premises for the annual service. He quoted $500 and change. I was shocked and he then went to to say that I really should install a "Turbo Capacitor" and "UPGRADE THE ELECTRONICS. for a total cost of $702. They confirmed that the price is fixed - I felt under the gun. He was already here, trip fare was paid so I figured to approve the install and challenge the number with the office. About 18" of foam insulation....price $209....FOR 18" of cheap, off the shelf insulation that probably costs under $1....and he was already at my place. After a lot of back and forth, he "threw in" the foam. I called the office and explained my shock at the price and was told they bill at $400/hr labor plus parts. Even with trhat exorbitant hourly rate, he hardly worked for 45 minutes to do all the work, so I asked for a breakdown of parts and labor. Was told they work on fixed pricing with no breakdown. I have been a satisfied customer and find their technicians to be able and polite. On their website I gave them a 4 star review thing I would be able to put some of this story but there was no such opportunity. I hate feeling that every time something needs repair, you have to guard against being taken advantage of. I thought I had a trusting relationship with them, and am disappointed to find out that is not the case.
