This place is a mess. Seriously the food is mediocre at best, & lousy at worst. You might hit it right one day, but most times it is not good. The crowds are gone. The service is a mess. Eggs cold, missing side dishes. Burgers way overcooked. They need to either close this place, or upgrade the food & seriously retrain the server staff. It's a shame to have a diner in Aiken(not like a REAL diner tho) & ha e the food & service so lacking. I see this time & time again in Aiken. Typical Americanized 'Belgian' waffle, not the dense semi-sweet/savory waffle you expect with chicken and waffles. Portions are large, my Chicken and Waffles came with a half a chicken and a whole waffle. I didn't expect to like the strawberry butter, but I did. The maple and hot sauce they mix up for your chicken is okay, I added quite a bit of hot sauce to get it to my liking. Come hungry, leave happy. Definitely worth a bit if a drive to visit. Decided to stop at the Metro Diner in Aiken today to grab brunch. The restaurant was very busy, so I chose to sit at the bar to avoid taking up a table or booth. This turned out to be a bad choice. The bartender immediately asked what I wanted to drink and then proceeded to bring me a drink that wasn't even close to what I ordered. I ordered today's breakfast special, which was an omelet with home fries and toast. My meal came out promptly and was very good, except for the fact the toast came out dry (not buttered). I promptly asked for some and received an acknowledgement from the bartender that he would promptly get some for me. That never happened. Now, I'm finished eating and have composed this entire review without receiving my check or even seeing the bartender. Food was great!! The service was a ZERO!! read more

Chk 2671 Tbl 51/1 September 20 2020 2:11pm "Complete Chaos!" is what is going on today during my family lunch outing. After reading the previous 5 star ratings, I hate to think this is the new norm. Being at half capacity, it's difficult to understand why the situation is in such disarray. The countenance of the staff says everything. No one is happy and running around in a complete disorganized frenzy. Even the manager slung down a paper bag or towel and stormed off to the back being at wit's end. As for the food, Buns on the burgers are stale and fries are overcooked. The club sandwich was good and vanilla yogurt was good. The wait was unusually long to receive food. We asked for a small plate for our toddler which didn't come so we used the support plate of my daughter's yogurt for the toddler plate. The men's restroom was a nasty mess with urine all over the floor and fecal matter smeared about the toilet. The door also doesn't close properly. I was told the women's bathroom was fine. I hope the staff figures out what's going on wrong so they can serve their customers pleasantly and have a nice day at work. read more

She was very nice and attentive. I went with my mom and I got the blackened shrimp quesadillas which were today's special and my mom got the Rueben. Great food. I've only gone three times since they've open, but each time we went the food and service was wonderful. I have tried the Chicken & waffles (twice) and I have tried the shrimp and grits. Because my wife tried the Shrimp & Grits last time we came out, we knew what to order. I recommend that you ask for the Shrimp & Grits with no onions and ask for the "regular" grits. We were looking for a brunch spot in Aiken and a lot of places are closed on Sundays, so we found this place. Modern diner with updated decor. Waitress was very friendly. Got the chicken and waffles with strawberry butter. It came out super hot like too hot to even touch which is hard when it looks so good in front of you. Only complain would be it seemed like it just came right out of the fryer to the plate as there was a little cooking liquid on the plate which made some of the crispy chicken skin mushy. A great brunch experience from beginning to end. My daughter and I accept that we're challenging when it comes to dining out. We do it a lot all over the country so it takes a lot to impress. Granted, this is a diner not fine dining but nonetheless, they do it right. Friendly hostess, knowledgeable, efficient, and personable waiter (Mark) and hot, delicious food. Dtr had the Bissell breakfast w sunny side up eggs, turkey sausage, HBs, toast, and the most amazing cinnamon roll pancakes. Everything was cooked perfectly. Who gets a to go box for leftover pancakes? We don't but we did today - they're that good! I had fish and chips special which was a HUGE portion and accompanied by salad (or soup) and slaw (house made ranch was excellent, I may buy some to take home). I usually steer clear of reviews that detail huge portions - being more of a quality over quantity person - but this was way too much food! All together, they do diner perfectly. My only complaint (if I had to voice one) is that you aren't notified of up charges until you get your bill but I'll not hold that against them. read more

It's 3rd day of New opening. Nice atmosphere but noise level high. I choose to sit at one of the 2 counters, one of which is a full bar. The wait staff, while new, were most enthusiastic. The menu has multiple favorites. I arrived about 4pm to avoid any potential crowd. The bar staff was most helpful but my food order ran out of my 1st 2 choices...hot turkey then meatloaf. I settled for French Dip which fit the void. Don't fully understand the shortage. I'll be coming back for a breakfast after they settle in. Finally made it in after watching weeks of crowds filling the place. Food was great, the much vaulted pot pie delivered a great home-fresh made flavor with a nice flaky crust. The Mallorcan clam chowder was spicy meaty and really flavorful. I wish it was a little bigger for the bowl size, really tasty. I'll have to come back for the fried chicken and waffles, the servings look massive, but I was not in the mood for fried food. Service was excellent. read more

Slow wasn't even the word for it and they certainly weren't busy. 20 minutes for a waitress to bring us drinks and just about 45 minutes on the food. They only get two stars because their food is pretty good but their service absolutely sucks! And the waitresses expect good tips?? It just doesn't make sense to me. Highly recommended and great service. Second visit to a Metro Diner and this establishment is newly opened. This visit was better then my first time and everything was good. The only reason I gave it a four star rating instead of five is because my grandmother ordered meatloaf and it was burned on the bottom, which they did say they would have replaced. The service here was great the manager Brandon was nice and our waitress Deborah was nice as well. And we did have one small issue with our check and Julie who was actually a visiting trainer from Fayetteville, NC corrected this. Julie was extremely accommodating and nice about the situation. Upon arrival you are immediately hit with the smell of burnt eggs and sugar. We have gone there a few times before with out of town guests and liked it. Tonight was a different story. Had to send back one meal because it was overcooked and by the time they replaced I was finished eating eating mine. Mgt didn't seemed too concerned when we complained and told us that's the way the chicken is cooked. Maybe he should change the fryer oil more often. Metro Diner is just ok. The portions are very large, but the prices are high for just so-so food. I had the French dip and my husband had some fancy burger (fancy priced burger). The French dip had a good amount of meat on it and was large. It could have been put together better. There was part of the sandwich that was just bread. The au jus was tasty. My husband's burger looked like it had too much bread...three slices I believe. He said his burger wasn't special and was over priced. I am not sure if we will go back.
