We went for dinner last week. The food was excellent. I ordered stuffing waffle and turkey. It was enough food to feed a family. I took half of it home and it was great as leftovers. My husband had the chicken and waffles. He said it is some of the best fried chicken he has ever had! The hot sauce and syrup combo was a hit. The strawberry butter that goes on the waffles was also delicious. My son had a kid's waffle and he enjoyed it. It isn't cheap, like Waffle House - we spent $40 for three people to have dinner. We will be back soon. The only small issue we had was that the waitress took forever to bring us the tablet they use to pay your bill. We waited more minutes than I was comfortable with, since my kid was getting antsy and wanted to leave. Took my daughter to Metro Diner. She's local; I'm not but have eaten at Metro in Jax several times and live it. We were there 2:30-ish. Service was great and food was delicious! We each had the honey chicken biscuit, along with a regular entree. Our entrees were delicious. She had Breakfast Pie and I had Chicken Pot Pie. The biscuits may have been the best I've ever had! Oh my goodness!!! My first experience at Metro Diner was to-go and it was so good and fresh I had to return for more. Eating with friends I had the opportunity to try different things. The dish I wish I ordered was the New Orleans style shrimp and grits which wax beyond amazing. I ordered the fried chicken because we're in this south and if that's on your menu, you better be doing it right. Well, someone's grannh is in the kitchen doing things right, putt'n her toes in it or something!!!!! Wow!!!! Also, if you're looking for setting healthy, try the spinach salad. I was excited to go here because I heard we could bring our pup along with us. They said they no longer allow dogs due to them now serving food. Otherwise, we had a good time and grabbed a beer as we explored downtown. The bouncer was nice and even wiped down the table so we could sit outside with our pup, it was raining on and off that day. I've eaten at 2 or 3 Metro locations in Jacksonville. This was my first visit to the one in Augusta, GA. We went on a Saturday night about an hour before closing with a party of 7. There was absolutely no wait! Service was great. Everyone ordered something different. I was completely satisfied with my pot roast entree! Other entrees and comments included: fried chicken- seemed not freshly made/over cooked, too much sauce on the reuben, Cajun chicken pasta and eggs Benedict were good. First and foremost if you have ever been curious about eating fried chicken and waffles THIS IS THE PLACE TO TRY IT OUT! They use a strawberry butter on the waffle and in all seriousness it tastes like a light strawberry ice cream! I have heard great things about this place. After a night of drinking and having fun for New Years, me and my friends wanted a late breakfast and figured we should try this place out. Granted we all loved and miss the previous establishment (Somewhere in Augusta) so walking in and seeing how much it has changed freaked us out. It was busy and smelled great so the 30 min wait wasn't an issue. There was 5 of us and we were all happy when we sat down. The menu had so many options and we all wanted to sample everything. The waitress showed up to the table (Michelle). She was friendly and explained all the specials and had a bubbly personality. Then the whole thing went downhill from there. We ordered a few Mimosas and Bloody Mary's and of course waters and teas on the side. It took a while to get our drinks....the alcoholic ones and she never bothered to bring our other drinks. She then proceeds to take our order and she pulls out this tablet, great in theory...we all had a few substitutions but nothing too out of the ordinary. When she gets to me I added on a Blueberry Cheesecake Stuffed Waffle. She looks at me and said "Are you sure you want all of that food Mrs. Piggy?" So that instantly put a bad taste in my mouth. You NEVER under any circumstances insult your guests. She goes to read us back what we ordered and when got to me she forgot to read back that I had hashbrowns with 3 toppings. So when I mentioned that she waved it off and said she couldn't read that back to me on her tablet. Even though she read two other orders that had hashbrowns with toppings. Ok fine. 15 to 20 minutes later we still haven't received our non-alcoholic beverages and she hadn't been by the table to check on us or refill a cup of coffee that sat empty for 15 minutes. We waved and looked all around for Michelle but she had disappeared for quiet some time. Now I've worked in F&B for years and one of the girls that was with us is a manager at a restaurant so to see a place full of workers and not one stopped to ask if we needed anything. You've got the hosts just standing around, servers walking with no sense of urgency, bus boys not doing a very well job, and most importantly a manager that doesn't even do anything. So to say we were flabbergasted is an understatement. Finally we get her attention and asked about the drinks and she said that she assumed we wanted them with our meals. Um, no. She then looks and sees the empty coffee cup, touches the rim with her finger and asked if it was regular coffee. Then walks away. She brings our drinks and doesn't get a new coffee cup. She then says the food should be coming up soon. Well she starts the food train with bringing everyone their meals. Of course with mistakes, cause at how our experience had been up to this point, there's only room for more error. One of the ladies asked for no hashbrowns and substitute corn beef hash. Well that didn't happen. So she had to get that fixed....Remember I mentioned that she never read back my hashbrowns? Guess who didn't get theirs....that's right. Me. And she acted as if I never ordered them and had the kitchen make me some. She had to ask me again what I wanted on them about 3 times. We all proceed to eat. Some of the food was cold and had a funny taste to it...time goes by and I still don't have my hashbrowns. So while still waiting for my food, one of our friends wants to place a togo order and we had to repeat it multiple times because that "clever" tablet wasnt cooperating...Finally after like 15ish minutes the manager brings me my hashbrowns. He doesn't ask us how our meal was, how our experience was going....basically he could care less about us. Big mistake, clearly because it resulted in this review. We eat and are all full from the food we got and here comes Michelle with her not so cute nor funny jokes and remarks and says we eat like birds and it's as if she just put the food down. We ask for boxes and she flat out told us no. But then offered to go drinks. And at this point we just want to get out! So we declined on the drinks. She then reluctantly got us boxes and asked about checks. We said 3 checks. Two of us were separate and the other three are together. Simple concept. She comes back with one check and then says she has to double check before she splits the rest of the check. We then all pay for our meals which were a little pricey...we all joked that we could've gone to Waffle House and got the same thing for less money and better service. But wait!! We still had to wait for the Togo order we placed many moons ago. So we literally stood by our booth ready to leave. Standing. Waiting. 10 minutes later and we asked about the food to a random worker that looked like he didn't want to help us and made no effort at all to help us. Then FINALLY the food arrived and we all raced for the door to leave. First and LAST time we will be visiting the Metro Diner that destroyed my beloved Somewhere in Augusta. read more

This was my first time visiting the Metro diner. I am visiting from out of town and needed some breakfast on a Saturday morning. I was very impressed not only with the waitstaff, the hostess and the crew but also the food. I chose to sit at the counter and get the full effect of watching the kitchen staff prepare my food. It was all delicious and a fantastic value. My eggs were soft and luscious. The crispy bacon was perfect, not over done, and my potatoes were amazing...just salty enough and crisped well. I will definitely be back on future trips to Augusta Georgia. I think the desert that is breakfast in this town has just found an oasis. read more

This place is very good. I like the menu and the fact that the whole menu is available all day long. They have creative specials and the food is bountiful. You may get two meals out of the one meal you order if you take some home with you. The portions are above average. The food is cooked properly. We have been to many many diners across the US and this by far is a Denny's at best hiding behind a diner title. Huge menu but not worth the time nor the price. Its reasonable but I can get fast food better than this. I was so disappointed that mistakenly decided to try it a 2nd time hoping they were just off the 1st time, NOPE ! Even worse. Great menu and price point. The food was great and came out quickly. Our server was friendly, but she did forget to give us utensils and so we sat there with our food without anything to eat it with for a couple of minutes. Another server was nice enough to bring us some. I was also a little put off by the fact that our server had really long dirty fingernails with cracked fingernail polish. While it might seem minor, those small details matter and make a huge difference. Having a clean waitstaff is important. After all, they are handling our food. Unfortunately, even small off-putting details like that are what guests will take away from their experience and remember even if everything else was perfect. read more
