I've been here twice and never been disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and grits and loved it. The grit cakes were different but over all they were good. My friend got the chicken and waffles and they were amazing. They make a spicy syrup for it and 10/10 would recommend it to anyone. The chicken and waffles were the star of the meal. Reviews tell you that the food will be good. Service is also excellent. We had a brief wait (15 mins) at the brunch/lunch rush on a Friday. Because there was time to study the menu, we were ready with our choices: Eggs Benedict and Crab Cakes Benedict. Both dishes were prepared perfectly (esp the eggs), but the Hollandaise sauce is heavier and less lemon-y than an itshould be (we're Southerners who know what to expect!) Our server was energetic and efficient. We noticed that servers not only take orders, but also bus tables and set them between parties. Very efficient! We look forward to returning. read more

Came here for a late Sunday lunch and the food was great. When we sat down our waiter Bradley offered us suggestions and explained the highlighted green sections were local favorites. I had a 1/2 chicken salad sandwich and a cup of broccoli soup. The portion sizes are very large and I wasn't able to finish. I'm not complaining! You definitely get your money's worth. My husband got the protein platter which had 4 eggs, 2 meats which consisted of 8 strips of bacon and 2 slices of Canadian bacon. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing with 80/90s music playing. Please just change the freaggin oil! The last 2 times we went the fried chicken tasted like it was fried in old oil. It looked golden, but boy did it disappoint. Our waffle was so hard and dry, my kid just kept plucking it with the backside of her fork to hear the Poppin sound. Don't know what happened, but when you first opened it was great. This quickly went down. We will not be coming back and we do not recommend this place currently. Hope that changes because it has potential. read more

Came to Metro Diner for breakfast with the fam (2.5 - Mama, Daddy, and tot). There was a short wait for a table as it was a busy morning. That seems to be the norm on the weekend according to the regulars. The host played with our tot and made her giggle. The staff are very friendly! Once we were seated, our server, Heather, was prompt to greet us and grab our drink order. Upon return, she also got our food order since we needed a minute as there are a ton of options. The environment is like what you would find at a family reunion: loud, full of laughter, and friendly people. It is family friendly and pretty cozy. Daddy ordered huevos rancheros. It's a huge portion and was very tasty. There were flour tortillas (hubs prefers corn). Chorizo was good with a more mild flavor than expected. Mama ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich with fruit. It was delicious and lightly cheesy. Fruit was a little on the under (melon) and over ripe (strawberries) side. Tot got the kiddos waffle topped with fresh strawberries. The waffle was light and airy. Berries cut to quarters for good tot size bites. Here's the most amazing part, on the back of my CC, I ask that whomever is swiping it to "Ask for ID" as proof of user. No one had looked at it... ever... until Heather. She is legit on point with her work ethic and seriously awesome. She asked to see my ID, saw my Military ID, and gave us a discount. This is seriously an amazing, family friendly restaurant. First visit today. It was really good. I tried the blueberry cheesecake waffle, it was just ok. The special indicated it had a cheesecake filling, but it was just a blob of cream cheese straight from the package. They should add some or more sugar to the mixture, that'll give it a little more spunk. My husband had the chicken and waffles. The syrup and hot sauce mix was pretty awesome! We'd never considered pairing the two and now that we have it'll be an addition going forward. The kids loved the pancakes. I'm happy they serve breakfast all day. We will return. If you go to this dinner go with a large party. If you go by yourself all 30 of the staff standing around playing fuck fuck games with each other and completely ignore you. I watched 5 families sit down and get immediate service while I sat by myself getting completely ignored by every single person in this establishment. Southern hospitality is a myth that died a long time ago. Customer service in this establishment is nonexistent. UPDATE: I decided to give this diner another try today. It's been a couple weeks so I figured why not. I sat at the counter this time, read the menu 3 times over then pulled out my phone and started reading the news before I was asked if I wanted anything to drink. At least I was asked this time. The food was good but after my meal I waited 15 minutes to pay and my server never returned. I needed to use the rest room and I wasn't about to leave my card on the table. I used the restroom and afterwards asked the host table if they could locate my server to pay. It sounds like she had already made her rounds telling everyone I had walked out and skipped on the check when the situation was entirely her fault. This is nothing more than a shit-hole diner with shitty customer service time and time again. The food is good if you are ok with being treated like a piece of trash. read more

I ended up boxing my food up and leaving because another customer came in set across from me and proceeded to talk me into a wide awoke coma. Oh and did I mention he had a gun hosted on his side in clear sight. WOW was he creepy. WOW....first time at the Metro....couldn't believe the portions. We could have easily split the order of biscuits and gravy between us and still had leftovers. They thought of everything- the butter was soft, the syrup was warm and the coffee refilled often. Our server, Milevi, was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, kept the coffee flowing and checked in on us to be sure everything was to our liking. If we lived nearby, we'd be regulars! I don't know why I waited so long to eat here. The food and service was so good, I went twice in one week (and I'm considering going for breakfast tomorrow. ) First night I had this mac-n-cheese pulled pork dish. It was unbelievable. I had enough leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. The second visit I had a hard time deciding what to order next. Everything sounded good. I settled on the monticristo sandwich with homemade potato chips. The sandwich was so large, I could only eat one piece. That may be because my husband got the fish and chips and of course I had to have some. The fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Not too much batter. We ate all the fish and chips so I may have to share my sandwich leftovers. The service in this place makes you feel at home. Good atmosphere. Great for families. I recommend the Metro to anyone who is looking for good food at a reasonable price without sacrificing service. read more

Metro Diner is insanely good. It was so good my girlfriend and I decided to visit it two days in a row. My first visit I decided to have the chicken and waffles, and I was so extremely impressed. The waffle was soft, the strawberry butter was interesting in the best kind of way and the chicken was better than I thought I'd ever get outside of a home-cooked meal. The chicken's breading was perfect and the meat was tender. And the server came by and informed us that a lot of people like to mix maple syrup and hot sauce together for a dipping sauce for the chicken and/or waffles. My girlfriend had a sort of peach french toast dish that came topped with nuts and cream cheese. She loved it and the bite I snuck off of her plate was divine. On our second trip, she ordered the chicken and waffles, and I got the biscuits and gravy with a side of corned beef hash. The biscuits were fluffy and filling, the gravy was dense and had a good bit of meat in it. I was impressed with the biscuits and gravy, but the corned beef hash knocked my socks off. It tastes like it's completely made from scratch, and the blend of spices and seasonings they used for it was heavenly. After two great meals, I would be very surprised if everything on the menu wasn't super-high quality. The menu can be a bit pricey, but it's well worth what I consider to be the best breakfast in Augusta...and everything came in such generous portions! The servers were kind, helpful and expedient, and the place was jumping with activity, which I like. Metro Diner has got itself a repeat customer and a big fan. read more

This is not a favorite of ours. We came here once a short while after they opened and service was slow and the food was too greasy. We just gave them a second chance and the hollandaise for the eggs Benedict was curdled, my braised beef tips came without potatoes and then when they offered to remake the eggs Benedict it took so long we asked them to cancel it and to just give us the check. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is the manager cleared both meals and our drinks. read more
