This was a great last minute stop. We all had something different. I had the Hot Turkey plate, it was amazing. Hit the spot and felt like Thanksgiving dinner. My daughter and grandmother shared the Special which was chicken alfredo with bacon and garlic bread. Yummy yummy. My son had the chicken and waffles. The strawberry butter tasted like ice cream. Went to this location this morning for the first time with my husband and an out-of-town guest, and it was excellent!! Our waitress, I believe her name was Heather (brown hair, glasses) was really good too. I'm always impressed when a server remembers the order without having to write it down. Whether it's a God-given gift or she used memory techniques, I don't know, but she got every detail of every order. We came in around noon and were welcomed by a pleasant greeter and seated promptly. There were several tables and booths open, but it wasn't long before the place filled up. It was hopping with activity and lively conversation from the diners. Even though it seemed busy it didn't take very long for our food to arrive at the table. I had the chicken and waffles, my husband and our friend both had the Bissell Breakfast with assorted sides. My husband and our friend raved over their meal choice, and my husband remarked that the orange juice was fresh-squeezed and ordered a second glass before he had finished his meal. My chicken was fried perfectly and the waffle was light and crispy. I couldn't finish all of my chicken because they give you an entire half chicken! I'll have the other pieces tomorrow. I didn't really care for the strawberry butter, but that's basically personal preference. I tasted it before smearing it on my waffle and opted for regular butter. I have a thumbs down/thumbs up rating for the "signature" sweet and spicy sauce. Before the meal arrived the waitress brought a small bowl on a plate and poured in some warm maple syrup and then added a couple of splashes of hot sauce and told me to give it a stir. Umm, that's the special sauce?? But it was really tasty! It was the perfect compliment for both the waffle and the chicken. The presentation was just a little janky though (made-up word, lol) and dampened my expectation of this sauce (and made me wonder for a second what the food was going to be like). Maybe if you're going to call it a special sauce you should mix it up before bringing it to the table, but...I mixed up some more so I would have enough to dip every bite! It's my new favorite because I do like sweet and spicy combos. This restaurant is definitely a keeper, and I found it looking for restaurants on Yelp that were in the area of where our friend's hotel was. My husband & I got take out tonight from Metro Diner in Inverness. We are new to the area and this was our first time at Metro Diner. We both ordered Turkey & Dressing, which tasted like a salt lick. Yuck! Very poor quality food & unappetizing looking. We won't be back. read more

We have waited way too long to try this place! There is one coming to Trussville and we couldn't be more excited! If the food and service is as great at the new location, other restaurants around us will have to step it up to keep business! There were four of us for lunch today. Pot roast, chicken pot pie, Philly cheesesteak and monte cristo. Best looking monte cristo we have ever seen! My mom does not eat fruit at all and the server talked her into trying the raspberry preserves with it. We were all shocked she tried it and she loved it! Large portion sizes and great service! We would all get what we had again, but they have so many great options we want to try. Menu has a wide variety and the breakfast items look amazing as well! Service is fast and very friendly!! Metro diner is a really good restaurant with an all round menu that offers sandwiches burgers and a huge line of breakfast offerings. All at very fair prices with good service. Not always the easiest location to find, but worth the trip. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite before leaving Birmingham/Hoover area. Food came out extremely quick and was delicious! They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices, all in a cute diner setting. My server Andrew was very attentive and their mimosas and bloody Mary's (which are made with rice wine instead of vodka) are $2.99 which is a steal. Would definitely come back again! read more

Doesn't look like much and we were on our way to Atlanta and popped in for breakfast. It was a take out order and they made us wait for over an hour despite ordering it in advance - if you need to get out in a timely manner , this isn't the place for you. Also the staff is completely unresponsive and not helpful. I'm never going back there. These folks have no idea what they were doing. My first time trying out the Metro Diner. It was packed for a Friday night at 6:30. Lol! But our wait wasn't terribly long and we opted to sit at the bar. The bar area is situated with the kitchen right in front of it so you can watch the staff make all of the food. I really enjoyed watching them work. Reminded me of an upper scale Waffle House. Haha! The country fried steak was AMAZING!!! And the red mashed potatoes that can with it were the best mashed potatoes I've ever had! Smooth and creamy. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese because I LOVE IT. However, I wasn't impressed with their Mac and cheese. My friend got the fish, chips, and a side of cheese grits. I'm not a fan of fried fish so I didn't try it but she enjoyed it! Can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu! read more

Having eaten at the Trussville location on other occasions I didn't hesitate to suggest my party of five go the Inverness location for 10:30 brunch this Fourth of July weekend. I guess it was a really bad day for this location, although there appeared to be plenty of empty four tops. Our server had to be summoned after waiting 25 minutes on the patio and unfortunately we never saw much of her even after our order was taken. We got our beverages but unfortunately no cream for the coffee (served in a dirty cup) and no straws. When the food showed up there were only 4 out of 5 orders. It's breakfast time but no syrup was brought until requested even though 3 orders were pancakes. After sometime waiting for my order which I was assured would be right out, the manager came out to say the order had never been put in and could I tell him what I ordered. So I ordered again and waited for my food after all the members of my party had finished eating. All the food was good, no complaints there, but the experience was very frustrating. I tried to maintain my good humor about the situation but having to constantly ask for our server and waiting an inordinate amount of time after each request didn't speak well for customer service. The manager comped my meal which was only appropriate but waiting to pay the bill caused members of my party to leave as they were behind schedule for other activities, I have a few suggestions as someone with a little restaurant experience that might help. One server should be assigned the patio and not three. I also think follow-up on table, chair and floor cleaning after each party and certainly at the opening and closing would be helpful. The patio floor was in need of a good sweeping. Salt and pepper shakers and not just ketchup and mustard should be on the tables. If other servers are going to run food out (a great idea to keep food hot for service), they should also bring the condiments needed for the items. Good luck read more

I had the bissell which comes with two eggs, meat, I had home fries, toast and I chose half a waffle. Everything came out hot and was very good. The strawberry butter fr the waffle is what made it. I don't understand how you can give Metro Diner anything less than a 5 star review - and I would give more if I could. We have eaten at a different location (Jax Florida) many times, and this was out first time at a different location. This was just like the original. Same great menu, same great service, and same amazing food. The Reuben sandwich was simply the best I have ever had. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich which was also top notch. Other's at our table had the chicken pot pie, and the fruity waffle. At the end of the meal, they were both scraping their plates with their forks to get that last morsel.
