This place was not what I expected to be. The food was Amazing! I literally only wanted to eat here my whole vacation and in fact, I came back 3 times!! The food is fantastic! Especially the chicken and waffles! To the owners... I know it's cold in Cleveland but please consider expanding your chain here! The waffles are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with strawberry butter! The chicken is juicy with that spicy maple sauce! It's so good! And the city burger is delicious! The service was outstanding with the exception of one person she sucked! She forgot my chicken leg and only served me 3 pieces. Had I'd not come two times prior I would've never known and she gave me a regular butter. Seriously? I didn't get her name but I wish I could put little miss blond pony tail on blast! Stopped in Sunday during Labor Day weekend. Place was packed. We grabbed three stools at the counter. Mistake. Once ordered, we watched the line cooks mastery, like a well choreographed ballet. I went here for the first time ever on Wedneaday. When you walk in, it's really homely and welcoming. To the right is an open kitchen with a bar like seating, and there is some outside seating and dining room seating as well. We were greeted with a smile and sat immediately. I ordered the corn beef hash and 2 eggs with a side of croissant French toast! Everything was going great until I asked a server 10 mins later if she knew when my French toast croissant would be out, no rush and she snapped at me in front of the whole restaurant and rolled her eyes at me. Stopped in for a quick breakfast before the Daytona 500 and we sat right away. Danielle was there within a minute to take our order. She was prompt, personable and made sure we felt at home. I ordered the frisco breakfast sandwich. It has grilled deli ham, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese put on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. It was an ideal sandwich! I got it with a side of crispy perfectly seasoned home fries. Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast! My buddy got two things off the special menu. He got strawberry cheesecake stuffed waffles. Metro diners have been popping up around Florida recently and they have everything running like clockwork. We came in on a busy Sunday afternoon in Daytona and were seated immediately. Sara our server was great, gave good recommendations. I had the Fried ChIcken Benedict: Buttermilk marinated chicken tenders, two poached eggs on a biscuit, topped with creamy Hollandaise and served with a side of hashbrowns. Oh my goodness! A hidden gem, nestled between Bonefish Grill and Aspen Dental directly in front of the Volusia Mall. Metro-Diner is thee place to go for a delicious, homemade meal that is priced just right. With plenty of parking spaces, although on the weekends and during special events such as The Daytona 500, Octoberfest, among other events parking can be dicey. On busy days, expect to wait at least 30+ minutes for a seat. Honestly, this place is worth the wait. The staff is always friendly, food is hot and delicious, and the atmosphere reminds me of a local diner you'd find in the mid-west. My favorite things to eat here include: BLT (AddTurkey) on Gluten-Free bread, Philly Cheese-Steak hoagie on a Gluten-Free bun, and any of their breakfast choices are great too! Let's not forget to mention their delicious, outrageously awesome, yummy hash browns. I mean, just order a side of these and you'll understand what I'm talking about. The cooks put a special seasoning on top, right before they plate them. I have tried to figure out what the seasoning is but I have yet to crack the code. I always order a side of hash browns, extra crispy with grilled onions on top. When they come to the table, I always put ketchup on top. Y-U-M!!! I thought Metro was better than the higher rated more lauded places. And the service was really good. Big parking lot. No wait for a table for 7 during a weekday morning. Options to please anyone (including avocado toast for this Californa lady who was frankly, missing her normal b'fast staple). And their breakfast potatoes were fabulous. Woke up late on a chilly Sunday craving homemade chicken soup and some comfort food. After calling around, Metro Diner had some. Boy am I glad I tried a bowl as it was a FANTASTIC, HOMEMADE soup! Even the noodles were special -- almost like the flat dumplings. I ordered a single warm biscuit with it. YUM! Am happy I found a great soup place. Also ordered the roasted turkey dinner that came with breast slices, dressing, cranberry jelly, mashed potatoes and fresh green beans that WEREN'T overcooked. The gravy also tasted homemade and was the perfect comfort food I was craving. It was slammed with customers waiting for tables after church, but I was REALLY impressed by how well trained and coordinated all the staff were in efficiently preparing, checking and serving the orders that came out perfect and fairly quickly -- considering the mob. While I didn't check, this would probably be a great place to get a grilled cheese or patty melt to go with my soup. Will definitely check it out for next time, along with a dessert! :-P read more

When it comes to breakfast, you can get just about the same thing at any restaurant serving it. What makes the difference for me is service and the care a chef puts into making your meal. This place hit it out of the park. The staff was great and you could tell they liked their job and were having fun in a professional way. My waitress was fantastic. She New the menu and asked the right questions to make my meal the way I wanted. Yes there was some up sell in it but that was fine with me. I really liked her honesty when I asked for tomato juice. She straight up told me she could get it for but I wouldn't like it. It was the juice they use for there Bloody Mary's. Much appreciated! If you're in town, check this place out. My food was delivered to my table completely over cooked due to sitting under heat lamps for too long. When I told the person who brought my food that this was the reason my plate was too hot thus making the food undesirable to eat he just shrugged and walked away. See the following images as proof; the pancakes completely hard on top and bottom easily peeling apart this is not a light or fluffy pancake as described. A real shame as I was looking forward to trying this place based on all the positive reviews but this is a rookie error that should never happen in a quality establishment so I am sure it will only occur again. read more

Stopped in based on the reviews. We got a mix of things. I got the bacon egg and cheese croissant. Others got: cinnamon roll pancakes, croissant French toast, berry waffle and oatmeal. We were seated quickly and our server was very friendly. They accommodated our emotional support dog (not everyone does but if you need one you know how important they can be and the person in our party needed it--dog is tiny and in a carrier). Husband got the tea if the day--strawberry peach. It was so sweet he couldn't drink it lol so he switched to water. We weren't given an itemized bill so I don't know if they took it off or not. His croissant French toast was delicious--very eggy and good but not soggy or gooey. It was sweet but not overly so. My bacon, egg, and cheese croissant was good. I expected scrambled eggs but it was more of an omelet which I didn't particularly care for but it didn't ruin it by any means--it's just not my first choice for my eggs. It came with a side of home fries but these were late and by the time I got them, they were so hot, I couldn't eat them and once they cooled, I didn't really want them. I tried one and they were good. The fruity waffle was good but the banana was over ripe and it was all over the waffle. We took the fruit off and the waffle itself was really good but the banana taste lingered. The strawberries and blueberries were added back and made it better. The cinnamon roll pancakes were so delicious that I wished I'd ordered them and I don't typically care for sweet stuff for breakfast. These were truly like cinnamon rolls but a good balance with being not overly sweet. It would be helpful to offer kids meals/portions since we had a lot of leftovers. read more

Returned to Metro Diner for dinner and had a disappointing dining experience. Previous visit was for brunch, which was great. Tonight it was for dinner. Arrived a little before 6 pm, Tuesday 8/24 and immediately seated. The restaurant had about 4-5 tables to service while there dining. 2 visible servers, a host and 2 galley cooks. Later a manager appeared in the galley. We ordered 2 Pot Roast dinners which our server Robin (5008) recommended. Food arrived quickly and was hot. The pot roast extremely tough, chewy and dry. Recommend slow cooking the meat cooking to 275-325 slow roast for better results. Carrots were crunchy and not fork tender, needing cooked longer. The gravy was very salty, in a jelled state. Suspect it had sit in a pot thickening up. Gravy tasted like it was from a mix or can which for this patron is no excuse. Gravy is one of the easiest things a good chef can whip up in a quick minute from scratch. The first rule of professional preparation is periodically taste your food, especially sauces and gravies that sit in pot. These meals were candidates for sending back to the kitchen, but after a long day of work my wife wanted to make the best of it and attempt to eat our food. She barely ate any of her meal and had no interest in any leftovers. I was famished so I ate my dinner but probably did so at a risk of a sodium overdose. Our server Robin was very friendly but was distracted with a large carryout during our visit leaving our water glasses empty and limited her visits to our table during the service. Recommend management institute more of a "team" approach to taking care of patrons. A host or free server may add to the dining experience by filling beverages, etc. And maybe had the manager stepped out of the galley and roamed the floor they could have discovered these issues. The manager did say have a nice evening as we exited but by then our experience was tainted. I gave 2 stars because of the food quality, Service was a 3 as it was limited. Signs in the restaurant say "where the locals eat" but sadly another experience like this one will keep this local away. read more

Nice local diner with all kinds of delicious goodies. When we stopped in they were offering waffles made out of stuffing with chicken tenders and gravy. So of course I went for it. It was really good, the portion was enormous so had some to snack on all day. The service is pretty good. Took a few mins to get hostess attention even though it wasn't busy, they all wear mask..properly for the most part. But customers not required to wear masks. Are all Metro Diners created equal? We'll I'd definitely say no if I only based the answer on my experience with this chain of diners - My last exposure was pre-covid and in another city long ago far far away. Change isn't necessarily bad but it is always different. This Metro Diner is smaller, the menu is smaller - it feels a little cramped unless you score a booth and that's about a 50 / 50 shot. We walked in right before 1:00 PM the place was swamped but the staff was dealing with it. Clearing tables and cleaning tables I did appreciate the staff sanitizing the entire booth before seating us. They all wore mask and the "plexiglass" separation measures were in place, most of the customers followed the suggestion of wearing a mask while standing but they quickly disappeared before their ass hit the seat as did mine. Sarah arrived within moment of us taking our seats - it so happens my better half knows Sarah in the business world; now I do and boy do I like being served by someone I know it's kinda like family being involved or something that familiar. Well this girl was on top of things, she even dealt with my picky "can I have that instead of this and easy on that but lots of this and if I can I want this and that on the side" I think she also understood I expected "rien de gratuit" so everything arrived as ordered and served piping hot. I mentioned earlier that the menu is smaller - a single plastic covered sheet listed all the breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner item on the front and back and I didn't need my "readers" to read all the options, it's called scaling back - now the benefits of this is your food theoretically should come out of the kitchen sooner (no long waits for food). My next comment is by no means accurate but it seemed like the lunch options were fried chicken or meatloaf, sandwiches or a salad - I chose the chicken fried chicken to be exactly and I was able to order 1/2 of a 1/2 (thank you Sarah) I didn't want a whole bird or a half bird - a breast and a wing will do. The mashed potatoes were authentic the brown gravy was borderline and I substituted broccoli for the "french cut" green bean and a biscuit. I did like the Louisiana Hot Sauce / Syrup condiment- but the butter, jelly, jam and honey for the biscuit was by request only. The hot honey chicken sandwich was so good a little sweet, spicy, juicy and crunchy...Really every dish we tried with their fried chicken came out great. Ok, second breakfast of the vacation. This time we went to the Metro Diner. Looked really good on Yelp and decided to try it out. I chose the Sausage biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were very light and fluffy, and the gravy was the perfect consistency. While there was sausage meat in the gravy, not just chopped up and added, like some places do, there could have been more. But i am partial to having a lot of sausage in my sausage gravy.
