I enjoyed my first experience here where the locals eat. I'm in town building a MedMen on San Jose Blvd and drove by here a few times before I stopped. Nice & friendly attentive ladies getting their work done yet taking the time to chat. Coffee was wonderful and my breakfast was as well. Portions are more than adequate and the plate was beautifully presented I could have split it with my woman but she wasn't in FL yet. Thanksgiving Dinner was wonderful thanks to Metro diner and there dedicated staff.. Our order was for 20 people of turkey and ham dinners. It was all assembled beautifully easy to reheat and fabulous. It was enjoyed by all. I can't say that I would improve on anything. the best part when picking up the food, I know how busy the restaurant was but I really enjoyed seeing the smiling face of Candace our server and coordinator. Came to this location for the first time and as with all their locations the wait was long as usual for a weekend. Once inside, the service was amazing. Never had to ask for a drink refill. Very friendly and attentive. We always had what we needed. I decided to try one of their daily specials, the Apple Yo Halla. While it was delicious, I wouldn't order it again. It didn't live up to my expectations, which are always high when walking in to a Metro Diner. Their peach tea is my favorite and has become my go-to drink. Overall great experience. First time dining here. All I gotta say is: the team working the Sunday brunch rush today--everyone was freakin' professionals. From hosts to servers... to runners... to preps... to cooks... bussers... expeditors--FOH and BOH was solid like I haven't seen in a hot minute. Sweet lil baby Jesus! The food was on point! Had me on my bar stool looking all ridiculous like, "yasss kween!" Shrimp and grits are a must try. Even my friend who swears she doesn't like grits said that the shrimp and grits at Metro Diner were solid. Making little cakes out of the grits is a genius idea. Definitely will try that at home. The pot roast also turned out to be a nice treat too. Beef was a little on the dry side for me, but the abundance of juice on the plate took care of that issue when eaten together. I enjoyed the overly generous portion of meat and potatoes on my plate. Again, service was flawless. Our server, Nike, was friendly, professional, highly attentive, and delivered clear answers for any and all questions I had regarding the menu. Being able to watch the kitchen trudge through that grinder just made the whole dinning experience that much better. My favorite is the shrimp and grits and that's usually what I order. This time I had a craving for a patty melt and they certainly didn't disappoint. It was very good - good enough to make me forget about the shrimp and grits. The ranch is homemade, which is a nice touch, being the ranch snob that I am. Enjoyed it with the fries. They no longer offer bottomless mimosas, but $3 mimosas are not bad. And the glass size is generous. The service with this last visit was outstanding. My favorite diner in town - and probably everyone's judging by how busy it always is. It's worth it! This time I had the Yo Hala on the Square. I don't usually like fruit mixed in with my food but I trusted the chef and tried it and it was amazing. The perfect balance of French toast, fruit, sweetness, and cream cheese to balance it out. The waiters were awesome too. We initially didn't like where we were seated today after getting our drinks and the waitress smoothly transferred us to another table with no problem. The new waitress even offered me her coat because I was chilly inside! The menu is huge, and everything I've had so far has been delicious. My morning breakfast with friends could only get better after passing by this sweet Metro Diner location. With the river near by we opted to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous morning weather. Wait time to sit outside was less than 10 minutes so not bad at all! As I've been to metro diner multiple times since moving to Florida I already knew what to order. However, this review lends to this specific location. Throughout my dining experience we had an ongoing conversation with friends so I didn't take much observation other than our service was well rounded. Server was attentive, brought us what we requested, and efficient on time. I ordered my usual which is the half order of the San Francisco eggs Benedict with a side of hash browns. That is the perfect amount for me to feel energized and full. I for sure recommend it if you don't know what to order! Coffee at metro diner is always freshly brewed and I also suggest asking about their seasonal coffee blends. So in conclusion, this metro diner rocks! My husband and I put our names on the online wait list at 11:11am, the wait online said 26 minutes at this point. We arrived at 11:18am and checked in at the front to let them know we were here. The girl told us it would be about 25 more minutes. At 11:50am we went up front again to ask how much longer because we were now waiting 40 minutes on a 26 minute wait time. We were told another 20 minutes!! I just do not understand how we were on a 26 minute wait list that turned into an hour wait? I wish they were open and honest when I checked in, so that we weren't held hostage and were given an opportunity to make a decision to go somewhere else. Now it's noon and we still haven't eaten. We were warmly greeted, quickly seated, and our drink orders taken. Our son ordered breakfast and we went for sandwiches. Our meals came quickly. Everything was well prepared and tasty. As a server, I completely understand how stressful it gets with a place like this, especially on a Sunday. Every server works hard, and manages to keep a kind smile on their face and appropriate humor. They are tough and fast. The prices match the quality of food and the size of the portions. While I wouldn't consider this place cheap by any means, it isn't insanely expensive. The prices are fair and unless you decide to add on multiple extras, your bill won't be extreme. The food. You don't get more southern comfort than Metro. Today, I had the club. Not only was it perfectly made-it was so big that I could only eat half! This was my first time going to Metro Diner in about six years. It's not because I dislike it, but because the wait time is usually just insane. Today I waited only five minutes so it started out great. I ordered Eggs Benedict and for the first time in a while I found a place that did them right. The Eggs were properly poached, the muffins nicely toasted and the Canadian bacon was...Canadian bacon. Good flavor, nice presentation and a huge portion too. I'd have preferred more lemon and some cayenne in the hollandaise but I ate the whole thing and enjoyed my meal. Our waitress Francis was fantastic as well. Ahhhhh, the famous Metro Diner. I read review after review on how exceptional the food was here, DDD and Guy Fieri fame, etc. Right. Since it was my first time here and the place was packed, I ordered something off the menu that was pretty hard to screw up. Maybe I was at the wrong location, I dunno, but for me this experience was less than ordinary, to say the least. Food: Biscuits and gravy, eggs, with home fries. That "Yo-Halla" creation seemed way too sweet for that time in the morning, with the frangelico and cream cheese mixture going on. I ordered a soda...tasted remarkably like diet...I hate diet. Drank it anyways, since my breakfast didn't exactly qualify as "heart healthy." Food came out in a matter of minutes, so that was cool, and the portions were HUGE. 1 breakfast, 2 plates. Now here's the kicker...took a bite of a biscuit...chewed...swallowed..and started coughing. Why? Because there was more pepper in the gravy than GRAVY. I tried to persevere, but in the end I could only eat 1 biscuit...diet soda chaser between bites *sigh*. I don't send food back because I've seen the movie "Waiting" one too many times, call me crazy...or call me maybe. Home fries...very dark in color, oddly enough....and soft. No crunch on the outside, so I wouldn't exactly qualify these as home FRIES. What was weird was...even without the crunch...there was a burnt aftertaste to them. Eggs were fine, thankfully, and the only thing i finished. Suffice to say, when i left...I left hungry *with a look of disdain.* The service wasn't the problem, it was actually pleasant and efficient (Thank you, Laura and by the way...I drink "regular" coke, but no worries). Atmosphere was indeed diner-ish, but charming so no shock there. But my food...uggh. I kept waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out and say I was being "Punked," because I was in such disbelief. You must be there by 8-815 if u don't want a horribly long wait and must be willing to sit at the first available spot lol. Come with an appetite bc the portions are astronomical. Take half of it home or share with a friend. I've so far been a few times, and brought my very pregnant sister and brother in law here , my dad and mom are next! I just love sharing the cities food with people new to town! Try the yo challa on the square, try the special pancakes...I've had lemon soufflé (the best by far when they have it!) and the sweet potato ones. So happy metro chained out! I visit several locations according to my location for that day and this is my eat with the girlz stop. We love the water view and the service is always top notch. The food has always been fresh and inviting with new board items daily with a creative touch. I usually eat breakfast otherwise I would be double my weight with all them gourmet waffles! They do need more restrooms as there is always a line but that won't stop me from coming here. :) read more

Mr. Yelp had a dentist appointment down on San Jose, and we were thinking about stopping at a "usual" spot for lunch afterwards... until I remembered The Metro Diner was just down the road. So, after I ran a few errands and picked him up, I said, "Instead of "our usual", how about some chicken and waffles?" SOLD, on the spot. I already knew what we were both going to order... Adam, the chicken and waffles of course (so I could have some) and I always have to try corned beef hash if it's on the menu. We walked in about 1:30, so the crowd had scattered, we sat down and helped right away. It did not take long for the deliciousness to hit our table either! Seemed like less than 10 minutes...and we were both starving, so it may have been about 5, hehe. The corned beef hash had some nice, big chunks of corned beef, some bits were a little crispy (the way I like it), but it was kind of dry and disappointing overall. I put my poached eggs on top (a little overcooked, but not bad) and some hot sauce on it.. then even mixed my side of sausage gravy in my bites... and it was still only OK. (PS. Sausage gravy was pretty good... but I usually like it with a little more kick.) So why the 4 stars, you might ask? HOLY S***, the chicken and waffles! That truly was a 5 star experience. Three enormous pieces of fried chicken, that almost rival Beach Road, with fantastic almost perfect crispy skin and breading, juicy and tender on the inside, and yes, even the maple syrup and Louisiana hot sauce dipping mix, AMAZING. And OMG the waffle.... it was so light it felt like I was biting into a f-ing cloud! And the strawberry butter.... WTH! Like others have said, it tastes like ice cream, with bits of the strawberry in there... it was absolute heaven. So, my bad for ordering a dish Metro isn't exactly "known for." At least I know. Next time, I am ordering the chicken and waffles for myself.... and Mr. Yelp can order one of the French toasts... so I can of course have some of that too. Tried and true. This is the place I like to go when I don't want to risk my palate. Although I may not like every dish, it's a safe bet I'll have a good experience. Food: I'd like to focus on one food item in particular. Most of the menu selections are good, but nothing to write home about. A few turn out to be hidden gems. YO HALA ON THE SQUARE "Two thick slices of challah bread stuffed with a mixture of bananas, brown sugar, cream cheese and hazelnut syrup, prepared like French toast. Topped with a blueberry strawberry compote!" This dish sounds absolutely delicious (it is) but also sickening sweet (it's not). The flavors stay separate and then mingle beautifully in ones mouth as you work your way through this dish. The best part is that the sweetness is mild, not at all overpowering like I expected. This is a must try if you decide to eat here. I don't think I've ever had anything quite like it. Facility: The building layout includes an open kitchen. This place is popular and busy. A dining room filled with customers eating and having conversation is a loud experience. The additional sounds of a kitchen staff working seems like an unnecessary annoyance. As is the smell of burnt toast every time an order is messed up. Sometimes putting up a wall is a good thing. Otherwise the restaurant is kept clean with friendly staff and ample seating considering the space allotted. read more

If you plan to have the chicken and waffles, please bring a pillow and a blanket because that's what you will need after that meal as it is served with 4 pieces(a half of chicken) of chicken, a belgian waffle with strawberry butter and I had the nerve to add strawberries and whipped cream.......but it was soooo good! The waitress will come by and mix maple syrup and hot sauce to dip your chicken in which I had to raise an eyebrow to because that was a first for me but once you try it, you will love it. We've tried sevral of their specials such as Italian Fritattas, Fried Chicken Benedicts, Pittsburg Sandwich to regular menu items like Fried Chicken and Waffle, Shrimp and Grits, Corn Beef Hash, Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, Breakfast Pie... I have to say, the quality and flavor have been consistenly good. They do get really busy, everytime we go, there has always been a 15-30 min wait, but it was worth the wait for me. Once seated though, the staff have always been very prompt and friendly. We have become regulars there and will continue to be. read more

OK so I will try and make it though this review without falling asleep after having had an amazingly yummy breakfast from Metro Diner. I found Metro Diner on Yelp after traveling to Jacksonville for a wedding. It was a short trip which meant limited eating opportunities so I needed the best of the best and Yelp did not disappoint (my other stop was 4 Rivers Smokehouse). Anyways, once I saw that first pic of the chicken and waffles with the strawberry I was pretty much sold...it looked amazing! The high rating solidified it for me. We arrived on a Saturday morning a little before 930am and waited about half an hour before being seated. It was nice size crowd but it was beautiful outside so we didn't mind the wait. It was really nice that the restaurant had free coffee available outside on the porch for waiting patrons. When our table became available we went inside and was seated near the kitchen/expo/counter area. Our server was Barbi and she was very pleasant and courteous. She took our order of chicken and waffles and even happily changed it when I opted to get the pound cake French toast (that's right... POUND CAKE FRENCH TOAST) with a side of bacon. We had decided to share since I didn't know when I would get another opportunity to have pound cake French toast and since the portion sizes looked pretty hefty. Our food came out pretty quickly. I loved my seat next to the expo window as I got to gaze at all the yumminess that came out. Barbi prepped us on the proper chicken and waffles etiquette showing us how to mix our syrup and hot sauce. Sounds gross I know, and I don't even eat hot sauce. But trust me, it works. Ok so our food came out in all its glory and the waffle was topped with a house made strawberry butter. Let me tell you...that butter was a mix between ice cream and heaven! Soooo good! I have no complaints about the food. The waffle was cooked perfectly: golden brown, crisp, and light and airy. The chicken...mmm juicy and well seasoned. It wasn't bland like many other places and went perfect with my syrup concoction and waffle. The pound cake French toast was good as well but it just didn't stand a chance in comparison to the chicken and waffle. Again, I have no food complaints besides I wish I had tried more items. We also had a brief visit from the manager and he seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying our visit. Overall service was excellent which is huge for me. Barbi was awesome and I could see that her team worked well together even when swamped. Oh, as a last note, Metro Diner shares parking with a plaza so there is ample parking. It also sits right at a bridge so I hear there are some seats that have great scenic views. I have been here many times and my favorite is the chicken and waffles! I usually don't do butter with my waffles but their strawberry butter is amazing!! I also ask for extra, it's $.50 but well worth it! Today my family tried the pizza burger and they said it was pretty good and will get it again in the future. They also tried the Philly cheesesteak....and they said it was just okay... Keep in mind we are from Philly and we know good cheesesteaks... But for being down here, it's not bad at all. I think I will try it on my next visit. I don't know if this is old news but for me it's new news!!! They extended their hours!!!! Ive been telling them forever they need to stay open later.
