Wait was long (Sunday, 10:30) -little kids everywhere - could hear creatures screaming the whole time you were eating. Also, felt like they were pushing us in then pushing up out (I get turning tables, but I felt rushed) The food was just OK...Ordered Chicken and Waffles...Chicken was EXCELLENT...the rest left a lot to be desired: 1) dipping sauce - made a big deal about sauce....took some hot sauce, put it in bowl, poured syrup on it. That's it....and took the hot sauce with them...didn't leave the hot sauce on the table for others (potatoes, etc.) or if i wanted more.... 2) Waffle/Butter - butter was good (Strawberry) waffle was just OK.....BUT waffle came out pre-quartered.....but one big lump of butter....if you're going to cut up my waffle - shouldn't you disperse the butter accordingly? Then - butter never melted - because waffle was never really above mildly warm (although a good waffle, I would have liked it hotter) So in conclusion, I'll give it another try - but I'll try an omelette - and get there as soon as it opens (6:30?) to hopefully experience a little quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. read more

I always enjoy eating at Metro Diner. The abundance of food is always delicious. My husband and I usually split an omelet. If you have a larger appetite you may want to order your own plate, but be sure you have a lumberjack appetite. The Greek omelet with spinach, feta and black olives is to die for! I still have not tried their chicken and waffles, but I hear this is one of their more famous dishes. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Just as a side note, the Yelp coupon for checking in is not 10% off your meal, It's 10% of their gear. I found that somewhat misleading... Or maybe I just need to pay more attention to the fine print. I do believe it would be more beneficial if the coupon was toward your meal. I came in on my birthday for brunch because I absolutely love breakfast food and my boyfriend recommended this place. My party came in at around noon and even though it was cold and rainy, this place was packed and after eating, I can see why. I ended up ordering the croissant French toast breakfast and got bacon, cheese grits, biscuits and gravy, eggs, and hash browns. (Look, I told you my eyes were bigger than my stomach, LOL) Jeez, everything was amazeballs. ESPECIALLY the croissant French toast. If you thought croissant's couldn't get any better, imagine a croissant breaded, dipped in some cinnamon, toasted to perfection with butter and magic sprinkled on top. I LOVED the chicken and waffles! You mix Louisiana Hot Sauce in with the syrup and it is delicious combination on both the waffles and the chicken! They give me two full chicken breast and two wings and a huge waffle cut into fours. It was definitely enough to share and take home left overs! My mom had the "mom's omelette". There was quite a bit of Swiss cheese in the omelet. It took away three flavor of the asparagus and mushrooms. Service was great and as I watched other customers get their food, it was clear that the Metro diner is not afraid to serve huge portions. I will definitely be back to share this experience with my friends and family to have not been here. read more

Woke up on a sunday, and my husband wanted to go out for breakfast. So we used yelp and found the metro diner. We arrived around 840am and waited about 10 minutes outside sitting by a heater. Our waitress was super nice and attentative. I had the fruity waffles. DELICIOUS. I wish my plate was endless. My husband had the huevos Rancheros and they were really good. Very different looking than what we are used to in southern CA, but very tasty. Can't wait to try the other locations (we are in mandarin) read more

Best breakfast in Jax. For really tho'. I don't play. I never give 5 stars and here it is. Me, B and Alice rolled through for a late late breakfast on a Sunday. Was 93 in the shade and 99% humidity. I had to get chicken n' waffles. Chicken was done proper...juicy, crunchy and not too greasy. Just enough salt to awaken the palate. They load the plate with a half chicken and a whole Belgian waffle. That part comes topped with strawberry butter. Then, the whole thing is presented with syrup mixed with hot sauce. I've had me some chicken n' waffles...most notably Roscoe's here in Cali...and Metro's did it up better. Alice had shrimp and grits...super smooth, creamy grits with a good number of peeled shrimp. In the middle was an island of a firm, non-sweet corn bread and bacon. Really, I might have been done up just as happy having this. B had an Eggs Benedict with avocado...I can't remember the name...It was really good as well, but not as world changing as the other two dishes. I'd go back. Me and a friend came to metro today for some lunch. we were seated and greeted in a timely manner, however, it did take a while to have drinks brought back to us. we ordered our lunch with our server and about 15 mins later another family of four sat down next to us. they got their food about 10 mins before us. keep in mind me and my friend were only two people verses four and we only had a salad and two eggs with hash browns. it took over all about 45 mins to get our food. When our server came to our table to check on us or give us updates about our order, she didn't have the best customer service or attitude. When our food came out my friends eggs and hash browns were cold and her grits were hard on top. my salads lettuce was warm and turned. the lettuce was slimy and gummy. i work in the food/ service industry and i know times are tuff at the moment with short staffing and things like that. But as a server i can truly say there is no excuse for having a bad attitude towards customers. if the attitude present to us was a little more positive and empathetic i would have felt better about the overall situation. overall food and service was subpar. and i come here some what frequently and lately it seems to be a recurring pattern. read more

This Metro Diner is one of my favorite places to eat. The service is above and beyond other restaurants. The food is always fresh and made the way you like it. The manager at this location is very friendly and checks to see if you are happy with your meal. The wait staff is clean and friendly and knows what they're doing when serving you. Have been there for breakfast lunch and dinner and the portions and quality of food is a 10 +. My favourite is the big fish sandwich, fried, Great Taste and crust never greasy! One of my favorites, if not my favorite, breakfast joint. The wife and I have been to this Metro Diner location many many times over the past several years. My favorite item to order is actually their corn beef hash with poached eggs, with extra side of hash. Love it. When it's only the two of us, we actually try to snatch two 'bar' seats. It's like a meal and show when watching the very highly efficient kitchen staff doing their magic. The service is always fast and friendly. The wait can be a while though, if you come at popular weekend breakfast time. But it's worth the wait for sure. read more

Wanted to really enjoy this place, but it really was average diner food. When we went the place was pretty much packed, but we were seated pretty quick. Service was a bit slow, but as busy as it was we didn't mind at all. We tried their Huevos Rancheros, Veggie omelet, corned beef hash, and pancakes. The corned beef hash came out first and must say it was pretty bland, that was really the end of that side dish. Couldn't really complain about the Huevos Rancheros, its a HUGE portion full of your Tex-Mex deliciousness. Pancakes were pretty good too. I love me some Metro Diner. This location is a touch smaller than some of the others but very convenient for those on this side of town. Like all locations this is home to good food and good service. While we were there right up to closing we noticed a couple slide into the joint five minutes before closing. Dripping from the rain I half-expected the manager to inform them that the kitchen was closing. Instead, the staff got them hooked up and took care of two cold, wet, hungry souls despite it causing a late closing. Good food, better people. read more
