My wife and I went to the Middletown Delaware Diner tonight, 9/1/19 for dinner. My wife ordered the beef tips and her order was ok. My order, Grilled Salmon was the problem. When the order came out, the broccoli and sautéed vegetables (swapped for potato) were fine and quite tasty. The problem was the salmon. It was left on the grill too long on both sides and had a very thick crust and was dry and flavorless. The waitress, Rebecca, who was doing a very good job, stopped by to check on our meals after they were delivered to the table. I informed her of the problem and she put in for another filet of salmon to be cooked. When the second piece of fish was delivered 10 minutes later, I cut into it and it was raw in the center. I refused to have anything else cooked for me, since at this time my wife was finished eating. Our server Rebecca informed the manager, who took the meal off of the bill, and sent her back to our table with the message that she would be out to speak with me and offer a coupon. We waited another 10 minutes for the manager who still had not visited our table. At this point, we had decided that we had waited long enough and been inconvenienced for more time than was necessary. The diner was not busy in any way, maybe 6 tables total the whole time we were there. As we walked to the door I was asked if we enjoyed our meal by a gentlemen who was another waiter or assistant manager. When he heard I had the bad salmon dinner, he said the manager was going to be bringing me a coupon for a future visit. I informed him that 20 minutes of waiting to speak to said manager was more time than I was willing to wait any longer and continued out the door. We had been to this location on several other days, including this same day for breakfast, which was very good. I will not be returning anytime soon and will be leaving a bad review on Yelp. read more

Having attended pre-opening event, found return disappointing. At pre-opening, we specifically asked if the quality being served was standard fare; the manager assured us it was. So much for that commitment. This experience was far less satisfying than the pre-opening. Server was attentive - until the latter part of the meal. While still on our entree, she left the check on the table without having asked if we were done or wanted dessert. The Diner lost a sale because of that, for two reasons: getting the bill in the midst of the main course gives the impression one is being rushed out. Secondly, we thought it rude that we were not offered the opportunity for dessert before being "closed out". Food was so-so, far less impressive than at pre-opening. We had an order of cheesy grits and had to look hard for the cheese. First time we tried it, there was a large dollop of cheese at the bottom of the cup; not so much this time. And amount of cheese on top was chintzy this time. We had an order of one of the specials, chicken parmesan. It turned out to be an example of why a restaurant should stick to what it does best. The fillets were seriously over-fried, though three pieces is more than one usually is served. The marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese topping the fillets were miniscule volume relative to the overall size of the serving. The spaghetti accompanying the serving was a lot less than one would expect. And it tasted like it had been sitting in water all day (we ate late afternoon). Guess it worked out that there wasn't much. Had a side order of cole slaw. While very tasty, quantity is not worth $2.29. Our suggestion: stick to breakfast portion of menu (served all day) or be careful what is chosen from lunch/dinner segments of menu. read more

Never been to Metro before so went for breakfast this morning. Got eggs benedict with hashbrowns and it was very good. Got an order of fried chicken and waffles to go, looking forward to trying that for dinner. Atmosphere was nice and all of the employees were awesome. Ill definitely be going back. read more

My mom had the chicken sandwich and thought it was ok, and nothing special. My father had the the ultimate breakfast burger and really enjoyed it. He thought it was phenomenal. He wanted to give it 5 stars. My sister had the Belgium waffles and really liked them. She also got bacon on the side and liked it. Oh my, now on to me. The Fish and Chips were terrible! The fish was clearly not cooked right, too much grease. It had some weird thick batter and made it hard to eat. There was some weird sauce. We thought it was curry, but it had a weird tint flavor. I thought it tasted like plastic. My mom took a bite and tried to hide her disgust. Besides my families food being good, This would have been one star. read more

Over a year ago I went to Metro Diner in Middletown DE. and asked the manager why weren't anyone wearing hair nets in the kitchen and they replied they were on order. After more than a year they still do not have hair nets! I will never go back there! read more

Being from the Midwest originally, I was not familiar with how popular diner food tends to be here on the east coast. The place was pretty busy, but my friend and I were able to be seated quickly. The waitress was friendly and attentive, but didn't come over every 5 minutes which was fine. I ordered a coffee, and one of the specials, which was crab cakes eggs Benedict florentine, served with a side of hash browns. It definitely exceeded expectations! The crab cakes definitely had a lot of crab in them, along with lots of flavor and the eggs Benedict portion was also fantastic. The hash browns were cooked perfectly - I hate when they are soggy and soft, but these were crunchy and crisp which was exactly what I was looking for! The coffee wasn't bad at all, kind of pricey for just a cup (I didn't get any refills). The price of the meal, however, was very reasonable. My friend had the philly cheesesteak and fries. Hers was also pretty good. Not the best cheesesteak ever, but it was satisfying. The only thing that annoyed me, which wasn't the fault of the restaurant, was access to the parking lot. You basically have to drive towards the movie theater and enter the restaurant through the back, because the GPS doesn't take you to an actual entrance, so it can be confusing. I don't frequent this area often, so it can be easy to get lost/confused. read more

Had chicken and waffles. The waffles were old and not fresh at all. The chicken was also over cooked. My girlfriend had a chicken sandwich. Luckily, she always cuts into her sandwich/burgers to make sure they're cooked because when she removed the top part of the bun, it was a chicken wing! (Bone and all). The idiots put a chicken wing on the sandwich instead of boneless chicken! If she would have bitten into this sandwich and choked, we'd have a much bigger problem. Also, there are flies everywhere. Not worth the trip, the idiotic service and cooks, or the ridiculous wait. Stay away. read more

Had the western omlet, and the cheese was chewy. I have never had chewy cheese. The ham and mushrooms were just added and then the eggs folded over it. It was bland and not good. I added jalapenos to the hash browns. They just put the jalapenos in the "omelette", not in the hashbrowns. The hash browns also had a funny taste. Pricey! 30-40% higher than other local breakfast joints. Decent quick food but ANYTHING special ordered/requested was messed up. Biscuits n gravy was pretty good i have to admit. Excellent food. This was my first experience here. We got it to go since the place was packed and the wait was more than we wanted. The hollandaise sauce for the eggs Benedict was perfect. Only complaint for the 2 meals purchase was the bacon wasn't cooked long enough. Aside of that everything was cooked to perfection and our service from the time we walked in the building till our food was brought to our car was phenomenal. I ordered basic pancakes and the ones delivered to my table were not what I had in mind. When I cut them with my fork and knife it felt like there was cardboard like resistance to my knife. My memory of pancakes are very personal , my mother was a very good cook and she could make a pancake that was so soft and fluffy that it made me smile whenever I ate one . I really appreciate good food especially when I have a taste for a particular dish. Otherwise the restaurant was excellent, friendly service a clean environment and a nice decor , I may try it again, but I won't be ordering pancakes. read more

I am a frequent visitor of metro diner especially the one located in Christiana. I specifically come to the diner for the flavored coffee. Every time I come to the Middletown location , it is ALWAYS French vanilla. It's been French vanilla for the last couple months. There are plenty other delicious options that metro has to offer for their special coffee ! The location in Christiana changes their coffee weekly sometimes daily. This is why I will go out of my way to go to the Christiana location rather than the Middletown location. At least I'll always know what the special coffee is when I come here . read more

My husband and I have been to the Metro Diner in Newark several times and have enjoyed our meal without complaint. First time visiting the Middletown Metro (we live here) and the establishment seems ok, i.e. clean, friendly staff, fast service. However, our orders of pancakes were awful! They were so rubbery they were almost inedible. We did mention this to the manager, who had come to our table twice to get our opinion of how they were doing. He said they were working on improving the formula for the pancakes and had received several complaints about them. Really??!! Working on the formula?? Get it right before you roll them out would be nice. I think I'll stick to the Metro Diner in Newark or go to Bob Evans which has THE most delicious pancakes each and every time. read more

We were blown away with the service and food in Newark, so we were curious if the consistency in Newark would happen in Middletown. It sure did! We love Middletown as much as Newark. First time we went for breakfast it was great. Great food and service. Next 3 times were not good. Cold potatoes. Eggs well done instead of over easy. Waitress too busy to return to our table so we eventually had to flag down another server for assistance. Any combination of these each time. What a great find!!! I had the bissel breakfast which was more food then i could ever eat. The pancakes were perfectly prepared. I was going to only give one star but I changed it to two. This is our second time at the diner. First time really had no issue. Yesterday we walked in were seated in a booth and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for someone to notice us. I tried to flag down one waiter but he did not hear me and kept moving. So my husband and I looked at each other got up and said forget it. I stopped at the hostess stand on the way out where three people were standing there and I told them that we sat at our table for 20 minutes and no one came to our table so we are leaving. Metro Diner, Middletown. We went to the diner when it first opened. No one in the place. Place was empty and still the service was slow and the food was ok. It was just open so we were accepting of the short comings. We went today around 9am. We were met pleasantly and seated immediately. That was the end of any human contact. No one acknowledged us. It was like we were invisible. Other people came in after us. They were seated and served right away. We waited about 10 minutes and could get no one to even look at us. As we got up and were leaving they did wish us a pleasant day. While we were sitting there we did hear the table next to us complain about the length of time they has been there and saw other people getting served that had come in after them. Our experience in other restaurants we are offered water and possibly coffee with the promise of there return. We did not experience any of this at 301. read more

The food is great and the service is decent. My only complain is it's a very open floor plan so if the place is packed, which it has been both times I've gone, then it can be very loud. Also if you sit near the open kitchen sometimes you can hear the servers talk trash about each other. read more
