We had really hoped to love Metro Diner, as our friends have been raving about it and we'd already tried to get in once but left because of the line going out the door. Don't get me wrong - we didn't hate it or anything - we just didn't love it. The service was great and the restaurant itself was bright and airy and decorated nicely - although maybe a little tight. The food was okay but just (in our opinion) not quite good enough to warrant the high prices. I had the huevos rancheros - it was mostly just fried tortilla chips and black beans - the eggs got lost under the cheese and sauces, so much that I really couldn't even tell if they were there. It did taste good though. I would have been better off eating my husband's corned beef hash - actual good homemade corned beef hash that is hard to find anywhere else. He didn't like it though, but I'm pretty sure that was mostly due to his taste buds. We'll probably give it another go sometime, maybe after some of the hoopla has died down. The fried chicken and waffles did look quite yummy (I saw plate after plate of that going out) - but for $15+ a pop, it darn well better be good! read more

While on our drive back to NJ from Maryland, we stopped off the highway in Middletown DE to get gas and grab a meal. The road we got off on had several strip malls with big chain restaurants but we decided to stop at the Metro Diner since we like diner food and it seemed pretty busy, which is usually a good sign! When we arrived, we had to wait about 5-10 minutes before we were seated. The place was pretty lively. Our waitress was really friendly and provided good service throughout the meal. I got the cinnamon bun pancakes with a side of hash browns and my boyfriend ordered the fried chicken eggs benedict with hash browns and an extra side of bacon. The pancakes came with two large cakes and were very yummy. The eggs benedict though was incredible. Their hollandaise sauce was really good. The hash browns hit the spot and the bacon was cooked perfectly. We were very satisfied with our food and decided to get a piece of their bread pudding to go - forget the exact flavor but may have been blueberry lemon - that was also really good. My husband & I live in Townsend, Delaware. We frequent Metro Diner on Rt 301 in Middletown. Yesterday we had an extra-delightful experience! Our server was Harrison. This young man was so professional yet friendly, efficient, & charming. He made our experience delightful. When asked if he was in school, because he is very young, he mentioned he sees his future in hotel & restaurant management. I'm just an old lady & schoolteacher, but if I were any restaurant or hotel, mark my words, I would scoop him up and give him a scholarship. You won't regret it! In the meantime, we will continue to frequent Metro due to the delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. We will be asking for Harrison while he awaits his bright future. read more

We visited Metro Diner last night to grab some late night dinner and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the best thing about it is we wandered in there at 7:40 PM and were greeted by a friendly hostess and wait staff. They close at 8 PM and I'm thrilled to say that not one person said "you can come in and order, but we close in 20 minutes". The staff was a dedicated group of young people who were more than happy to do everything in their power to make our experience absolutely great. My guest ordered a BLT with mac & cheese on the side which she thoroughly enjoyed and I had BFD ( breakfast for dinner) which was a perfectly cooked, Belgian waffle with fruit and a side of crispy bacon, which they cooked exactly the way I love it! The staff was very attentive and courteous, and since we were planning to leave sooner, since we did not want to keep them too late, past their closing time, he offered go cups for the drinks that we had still not finished. We didn't even have to ask him. That's service! Side note:We were happy that the temperature in the restaurant was very comfortable, especially because we had chosen not to stay at IHOP due to their freezing dining room! We will definitely go back to this place where we are appreciated and treated like true guests! Took my family to this restaurant for the first time. Was surprised by the service my family received. We ordered our food and when it came out my son never got his pancakes, the waitress never came back to apologize or to tell us what happened. Finally we got his pancakes 10 minutes later. The waitress never came back for 30 minutes, so we had no refills or drinks for the rest of our meal. We finally asked another waitress for our check. When our waitress came back I asked her to please make change for our bill. She shorted me the cents which maybe petty but not to me. Highly upset! I called and spoke to a manager in regards to the turkey dinner... they ensured me that it was fresh turkey meat. The manager even went as far as to say they take whole turkey breast and slice it up.. I mean I guess ... it reminds me of the turkey you get from a grocery store deli just a tad bit thicker sliced... as for the taste! The gravy tasted just like stove top stuffing! Now if you like that by all means go try it... but for me I can not stand the taste!!! I often order bob Evan's turkey dinner and it reminded me of that but as for bob Evan's the gravy is actually very tasty and it brings the whole meal together. I personally would never order the turkey dinner from metro again... Ate a wonderful lunch here on Easter, as always good food, a variety of choices for the whole family, large portions and friendly waitstaff. We had one issue that the ticket for my husbands chicken and waffles was overlooked so his food didn't come out with ours, but they made it right and had it out within minutes, the manager even came over and apologized right away for the delay and comped his meal without us even asking. Had a gift card so we decided to order curbside to go. The only complaints is that my order was about 30 min late from the time they emailed it would be ready. And yes, I waited in my car that long and with my toddler. Also, just like most curb side to go I've found that they didn't give me everything in my order. 27 Mar 21 - Went on a Saturday afternoon with my niece and nephew. They were a bit busy so we waited for a table. Normally, I get their chicken and waffles but decided to get something new - Spicy Honey Chicken Sandwich. My niece got chicken tenders and nephew croissant French toast. My chicken sandwich was good, I liked how they fried the chicken and marinated it. The sauce was pleasant too. It would be better if a bit more than a tomato came on it, and if the chicken was one filet instead of two big chicken tenders. Great breakfast spot in Middletown. I've been to the one in Newark, and this one is just as good. There was a 25 min wait on a Saturday morning, but we luckily found seats at the bar. The bar area needed a little cleanup from the previous patrons, but it was recognized by the staff and they cleaned it and had it ready within three minutes. It was neat to sit there because you could see all of the food being prepared. When seated we had ordered hazelnut coffee's, which were good. At that point we recognized my spoon was dirty, and my husband did not have a spoon at all in his utensil packet. We asked the waitress for new ones and received them within a few minutes. My husband ordered the egg and bacon sandwich on a croissant with fries, and I had ordered the special eggs benedict with chorizo. Both items were good. Overall, it was typical breakfast made well. I was a little disappointed with the menu. When I think of a diner, I think of appetizers. There are none. The menu is not extensive at all. There were 6 of us today. One of us ordered the chicken and waffles. He was not disappointed. Three of us ordered the special chicken Parmesan. I'm not sure what was in my fries other than the chicken from either the chicken and waffles or perhaps it's the breading from the fish and chips my husband ordered. Yuck. I'd prefer just fries with my fries. The chicken Parmesan tasted like I was eating a block of salt. I didn't enjoy it at all. On a positive note, service was fast. To piggy back from another persons review, the floors outside the bathroom are still super slippery. I'm not sure it's worth a revisit at this time. read more

Coming from New York we passed by Delaware and stopped by this diner not knowing this was a hidden gem I mean honestly everything was made fresh and tasted home made, the owner was great kept us in a good mood with his convos aswell as his hospitality. We had brunch here yesterday. It was very busy as expected at 12 on a Sunday but the staff were very efficient and had us seated in a reasonable amount of time. Our server was amazing....she came to check on us multiple times and she anticipated our every need. My fiancé had the fried chicken benedict and the portion was HUGE! The chicken was cooked perfectly. Nice and crunchy on the outside and the inside was so moist and tender it melted in your mouth! I had a southwest style breakfast bowl (I forget what it was called) and it was so tasty! Fresh avocado, black beans, pico, scrambled eggs and crispy hash browns. Yum! For full disclosure, I do like diners. Metro is a little nicer than the average diner perhaps because it is a chain. After three of four visits, there has been consistently good food and service. There are always specials on the board and different types of iced tea. If you are in the area and aren't sure what you want to eat, this is a great safe choice. read more

My husband and decided to try Metro Diner today. It was a very pleasant experience. Our waiter Phillip was very attentive to our needs, especially since we informed him that it was our first time there. I ordered the Charleston Shrimp and Grits, while my husband ordered the Fish and Chips. Both of our meals were very good and the portion size was great for the price. We were only able to eat half of what we ordered. One of the managers named John came over and spoke with us as well. We appreciate the attention paid to customers.
