Nice welcoming diner, non pretentious atmosphere. I was seated promptly and the server came for the table immediately, very friendly and helpful. I ordered the fried chicken platter and substituted the green beans for mac & cheese. The chicken looked great, but it was definitely overcooked which made it dry and tough. That's unfortunate as it had a lot of potential. I didn't care for the flavor of the mashed potatoes, as they had some kind of a garlic flavor to it. The mac & cheese and biscuit were good. Stopped by this diner and was really impressed! The portions are huge and the menu has so many options to choose from. I heard they're known for their chicken and waffles, so we had to try it--and it did not disappoint. Crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth the hype. We chose to sit outside since it was pretty cold inside, and the outdoor seating was perfect. Service was excellent--we got seated right away, and the food came out fast and hot. This is experience at Metro Diner was beyond exceptional. We have been to this location many times with amazing experiences, and this time is no different. Our server, Kellee, was quick to take our orders, and we had our food out in no time. She refilled our drinks without us even asking, which is a trait of an awesome server. Every plate on our table tasted so good, and our highlight was definitely the fried chicken alongside some flavorful ranch. Overall, this was an amazing brunch for us. My friends know I'm a sucker for breakfast food, usually for lunch. Metro Diner is the perfect fit for someone like me, offering breakfast all day! I was seated promptly and waited on by Ava. She was very friendly and helpful, allowing me time to peruse the menu while she retrieved my coffee/water. I chose the veggie omelet with grits and fresh fruit sub for the toast. I'm not kidding when I say that my food arrived within 5 mins! The miracle of their electronic order pads. One of the other wait staff delivered it to me, hot and fresh. I love grits, and MD's are perfectly seasoned. The fruit was super fresh and all ripe, and my omelet was perfectly cooked with lots of veggies inside. It was such a large portion I took half home for another yummy breakfast. Ava warmed up my coffee and was attentive when needed. I paid her when I finished and went on about my day, full and happy! This MD had a couple special menus describing new burger offerings, poutine and cheese curds. They also advertised several specials on the wall, and if it suits your fancy, you can get beer/wine here. I noticed they had a mimosa flight special, which would be perfect for a weekend treat. I was in town for a cheerleading competition and needed some good breakfast. Found this place on Yelp and decided to drop by in the -3 degree snowy weather. We arrived and they were packed. A lot of people in the waiting area. I knew the food had to be good. We were seated in about 5/10 minutes. I ordered the Fruity Waffle, bacon and eggs and a side of home fries. The food came fresh and hot. The side of home fries is big enough for two. I shared them with my wife and daughter. The fruit on the waffle was delicious. I was thrown off however by the blueberries being inside the waffles. It was a surprises to me. I wish I would have known as I didn't really care for it. In town this weekend for the Taylor Swift concert and we were looking to pre-game with a delicious brunch--we absolutely chose the right place! My fiancé and I went here for a late breakfast around 4 PM on a Monday and we're super disappointed. The best thing about the place was the service. Our waitress was really nice but that was where it really ended. The place looked a bit ran down when we walked in and could definitely use some updating as well. We ordered the meat loaf and bowl. My meatloaf came out and was mushy, tasted weird and wasn't worth the money. It was also drowned out by a ton of gravy. My girls bowls steak was incredibly chewy and had very little flavor. Food was left on the benches, I had to ask the person to clean it twice, then he got annoyed with me, and the cart he was pushing around was full of liquid that should have been emptied. After shopping with my sister and her daughter-in-law we stopped in for a bite to eat. it was about 2:30 pm and it was not that crowded even for a weekend. We were seated right away and drink orders were taken shortly thereafter. They had one of my new favorites, Coke Zero. I ordered a Belgian Waffle topped with Powdered Sugar, my sister ordered the Grilled 3 Cheese and added bacon and tomato plus a cup of fruit for her side. I was in today around lunch. Restarant was almost empty and very slow. I did not get a hostess so I sat myself at a table. Waited no one noticed me . Waitress was not on top of it. All talking to each other. One waitress even helped the table next to me and said nothing to me. I finally got up and got my own menu. Still took a while before I was noticed. Finally a waitress came and waited on me. I got the worse pancakes ever. Had to take a knife to cut them . They were rubber. No one ever checked back on me. All I needed was butter. We're in Indy for the weekend and we're looking for fried chicken. When we arrived we chose the classic burger and the barbecue burger. They were cooked perfectly to our specifications. My cheddar cheese was melty and flowing down the sides. The best of all was the fresh, al dente green beans. What a pleasant surprise. The service was prompt and attentive. We were invited back by manager with incentives as a first timer. I may come tomorrow for eggs Benedict. Ambiance? Think family diner. Music was 70s soft rock, not my favorite but upbeat. I went here with 14 other people last week. We had to wait for a few people to show up and the waitress was very patient and got us drinks. Luckily I went to their website and saw that if I signed up for their free club, I would get 50% off my next entree. I always wanted to try shrimp and grits, so I thought this would be a good time, since it was on the menu. I have never been a big fan of grits, but this dish was outstanding. The grit cakes were delicious with the cheese and andouille sausage, and there was plenty of shrimp. The sauce was excellent and rich. Everyone liked what they got, and the food came out quickly. Re mixed feelings on this place. The ambiance is really nice. Wife ordered a salad, no surprise. I ordered the Charleston Shrimp & Grits. This is two fried grit cakes infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and andouille sausage. Topped with shrimp, sausage, onions and peppers in a shrimp sauce. Garnished with chopped bacon and Green onions. Everything about it was spot on. Grits were great with pieces of andouille and cheese. Sauce was exceptional. Everything was great except the shrimp was past its prime. It had a very strong fishy flavor that suggests it either wasn't thawed properly or had been sitting around too long. I would go back and give them a second chance due to fantastic server. She was outstanding and rare today. read more

Carry out order of "Iron City Meatloaf" which was raved about and featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. What they served me was not something they'd serve Guy Fieri - he'd have spat it out, then chewed out his staff for wasting his time taking him there. The meatloaf was old, dry, flavorless and had likely been leftover from lunch (this was middle of dinner rush). I opened up the box after a 20 minute drive. The gravy was also flavorless - mashed potatoes same - Mac & Cheese same. Nothing was seasoned properly, I don't even think the macaroni had been boiled in salted water. Now, I usually cook at home and don't eat the high salt foods at most restaurants or processed grocery foods so I'm used to lower levels of salt. This was even less salty than the low sodium diet I was on in the hospital! A boxed grocery store mac & cheese would be better as well as a frozen meatloaf dinner. Went on a Monday evening with my husband, my sister and her 7-YO grandson. He wanted to sit outside and we were allowed to select own table. Drink service was very quick to arrive.
