I've been to three different Metro Diner's now and this one lived up to the hype. I came here twice while visiting with family: once for lunch and once for breakfast. Each time, there was no line. For lunch, I got the soup and grilled cheese. One of my favorite things on this earth is a good tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. I got their 3 cheese grilled sandwich (no extras) and their soup of the day, which was a tomato bisque. The sandwich was divine. Perfect. The bisque was a little heavier on the creamy-side than I normally like, but it was still a good compliment to the sandwich. For breakfast, I got the avocado toast... it was solid. The only issue I have with Metro Diner is their portion sizes. They are HUGE. The avocado toast (supposedly on the lighter side) was enormous. Two huge slices of bread cut in half with probably the equivalent of 4 avocados on top. Two people could have shared this meal easily. In a world of excess, sometimes less is more. read more

I went to metro dinner a few weeks ago but have mixed feelings. The staff was mediocre and the restaurant felt dirty. Our food took awhile to come out, longer than expected as it was not super busy, but tasted great. I got the chicken and waffles which were amazing. Once we were seated, we never had a server come to our table to say hello, bring us water, take our order, nothing. We watched two other tables get seated after us and had servers come up to them right away to take their orders. We finally asked someone if we could get a server to come to the table to at least say hello and bring us water. Several minutes later someone FINALLY came over and just said "we're a little busy are you ready?" We decided to just get up and leave, as the customer service was terrible. We understand being busy (and love to see local restaurants thriving like this!), and we also understand how to provide good service despite being busy. I have been to Metro Diner before, so I was excited to introduce co workers to a location near work. Two of our coworkers were able to get a table for us before two of us arrived there. Our server was attentive and served us we'll the whole visit. We looked over the menu, and made decisions. It took a little bit of time for the food to come out, and my food was last, but when it came out everyone dug in. I ordered the roast turkey platter, and it was so good! It reminded me of a Thanksgiving dinner. I was happy with the quantity and quality. I was full by the end of the meal. I thought it was reasonably priced, and he made sure to give me a sweet tea to go before the meal ended. We will definitely be back soon! read more

My family lives around here and love this diner for breakfast. We were there around 9:30 and were sat fairly quickly. The service was quick and attentive. I've been told by so many people to check this place out. I came here with some friends on a Friday for brunch. We didn't have reservations and showed up with a party of 6 and we were seated immediately. The place was also packed and busy, so we were very impressed. We walked through the restaurant and it was a little loud and were seated outside. Unfortunately outside was also loud. There were a lot of screaming children running around, which made brunch a little difficult to enjoy. Our server was very kind and sweet. She however, was very forgetful on orders. There were items that she did not bring out and then even parts of our orders that were messed up. One person at the table had something brought out to her 3 different times because it was consistently incorrect. We also had to ask quite a few times for silverware. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict with home fries and I thought it was good. Wasn't anything to rant and rave about though. There were a lot of other things that caught my eye on the menu that I would like to try next time. I would suggest coming here for brunch, however be mindful of the possible wait time especially during prime time brunch time. Very mixed experience. On the plus side the food was pretty good. On the negative side our service was slow, almost disappeared at times. We got drinks pretty quickly and then did not see our waitress for another 15 minutes. Placed our order and waited about 15-20 minutes before we saw our order placed in window for her to pick up. Almost 15 minutes later she reappeared and grabbed an order that was just put up. Another 5 minutes before she came back & brought our food. My burger had good flavor but it had cooled to the point it was practically room temp. Fries were cold & now soggy. The breakfast nachos were barely lukewarm but had great flavor - clearly something that could have been great. Friends enjoyed the fried chicken salad (huge and tasty chicken), and French dip ( great flavor but again not hot) What we had hoped would be a leisurely brunch turned into wolfing down our lukewarm food and rushing out to make our next appointments. Our experience, on a Saturday morning, was our server we only saw when she took the order and returned with the check....someone else dropped off the actual order. It wasn't overly busy, there were empty tables. Let's talk about the order....pancakes, side of bacon, one for me, one for the Mrs. Our seat was where I could clearly see the grill and serving "window ". An order of pancakes was placed up there. A server grabbed them and returned them after going to the wrong table. Two or three other ladies fondled the plate trying to figure where they went. About two minutes after the initial "return", a second plate of pancakes was placed up in the window, where they both sat for about another 4 minutes waiting on bacon. Good afternoon all. Today I tool the Wife and kid to Metro Diner on Front St in Ponte Vedra for a late breakfast. I hate to say that of all the times we've been here this was by far the worst!! The waitress was very rude from the start. We all ordered hot tea because it was cold and raining today. I'm assuming that the tea bags were old because they never turned to tea. I brought this to her attention and she got mad and wanted to tongue wrestle. Next problem there was no sugar no jelly no salt pepper or ketchup on the table. I requested some and she huffed and puffed and walked off. Third problem I ordered grits egg toast and a hamburger patty because I don't eat pork. Well the plate came minus the meat. I sat about 10 minutes waiting on my meat but by the time she remembered it the other food was cold. I told her she could take it back because it was cold and I didn't want it. Again she got mad and stormed off. Another gentleman came to the table to apologize and offered to remake the food but I told him it was way past that and I didn't want anything now. This place is a big nope for me. The food was extremely bland. I ordered the Pittsburgh sandwich, and there was not a lick of seasoning on it. I barely finished half, and didn't even bother with the leftovers I took home. My wife ordered the Bissell Breakfast. The hash browns were hard and greasy, the eggs were undercooked even though we begged for them to be well done, and everything else lacked flavor. I'm not sure what people like about this place. Metro Diner is one of my favorite places for breakfast and brunch. The chicken and waffles is always a standby at any location whether in Gainesville or Jacksonville. This particular chicken and waffles was crunchy, moist and juicy. The strawberry butter really differentiates this dish from any other. Other factors: Wait times at Metro Diner can be about an hour during prime time. We (party of two) only waited 10 minutes for a table inside around 10 AM on a Saturday. Not too shabby! The ambience was a little loud but I see that as a positive effect of communities joining together to delight over food. There were many families and friends present at a table together. I wouldn't recommend prime time (10 AM - 12 PM) for intentional talks where careful listening is crucial because the noise would be overpowering. read more

This place was solid all around. For social distancing purposes my group sat outside and it was lovely. Our waitress was named Kaitlin I believe (apologies if I spelled their name wrong) and she was so kind! Our group had a variety of drinks and food selections so we got to sample a lot. The coffee and hot chocolate were both great and so was the food. Our table got a vegetarian friendly dish, a waffle, the egg combo, toast with eggs and bacon, and I got the chicken and waffles. It all tasted amazing! The chicken and waffles dish was HUGE!! I enjoy large meals, but this was too much for me to finish! I was so full and had to take a box home. Overall the experience was great. The only slight negatives were I ordered a side of bacon that seemed to be forgotten (which in retrospect may have been a good thing with how good my plate was haha) and there was a slight issue with our receipt that was resolved quickly. This morning I eat here at the Ponte Vedra location the food was very good as it has been in the past coffee good orange juice good. I heard a young man in the back upset about something and said (motherF) I said earlier that I wouldn't be back after hearing those words. But once he came out and talk to me. I understood why he was upset. His workers are on unemployment and he cannot get a few of them to come back to work because they rather collect unemployment. So I understood why he was upset his customers come first and he's just worried he couldn't take care of them all. I don't blame him for getting upset I've been there. And done that. read more

Metro has grown again and added a new location in PV. Great place for brunch, but they are definitely just as popular and busy down here! I love the bendicts and omelettes. However I do have a new found love for the John Sr. Sandwich...perfect combo of eggs, bacon, cheese, tomato, but you have to get it with avocado! My family and I were staying at a nearby hotel when we drove by Metro Diner. After looking up the menu, we were all excited to try it. We were so thankful that it lived up to our standards! We went on a Sunday morning; fully prepared for them to be busy. We were pleasantly surprised with how they were handling being so busy. We waited for a short ten minutes before being escorted to our table. Our waiter was amiable and reminded us of Todd Chrisley a little, lol. My mom read great things online about the chicken and waffles, so she was excited to order that. The fried chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection. My mother noted that it was some of the best-fried chicken that she had ever gotten from a restaurant. The waffles were fluffy and cooked just the way she liked them. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant which I loved. The eggs were not served scrambled, which I liked, because then it would have been extremely messy to eat. Bacon had just the right amount of crisp to it, which perfected the croissant. My mother and I both also had the home fries that we both thoroughly enjoyed.
