Great friendly employees, especially the bartender. Sat at the bar for a quick meal. The menu was unimpressive for being located on a high-end golf resort, but I guess golfers aren't into near Michelin or Michelin cuisine. It was basically a sports bar menu. Drink coupons were give to guests, but read the fine print, well cocktails only. I, of course, went with a cocktail on the menu, which wasn't covered. Had the fish & chips along with the shrimp cerviche. Sadly, the result was a bad case of gastrointestinal distress that lasted over a day, ruining my two night stay at the resort. I'm thinking it was the cerviche, which obviously no one on Yelp wants to know the details of. If golfing there, stay away from the ceviche. And before I get in-beforehand, I've had ceviche frequently, from Miami, to Mexico, to San Francisco, never any problem with it before. So, I'm not making a hard connection, but caveat emptor. But, just to reiterate, the bartender was friendly and quick with mine and others orders. High end decor and a view of the lake. But you can do better. Cerviche isn't rocket science. And you're a resort, add something to the menu that isn't bar food, unless they didn't give me the full menu...

So I kept hearing about this Vernon's restaurant, seen them out at some local food events and thought their food was pretty dang good. I finally got the chance to check them out one Sunday afternoon for their famous themed brunches with a friend who invited me out. This Sunday it was Parisian-themed. We valet-parked and walked into the hotel. Bearing right was the entrance to Vernon's, elevated with a partial view of the lake and grounds behind the hotel. This place is fancy. There was some live music from a three-piece band performing, but I couldn't understand why because the floors above had hotel rooms. I mean, I really enjoy my piece and quiet on Sunday mornings but I don't know how any of those patrons to stand it. My friend had told me she checked-in at the hostess stand and they were cleaning off the table, but it took like 15 mins to do so. We eventually believed that they were understaffed for servers and bussers with the amount of people coming and going. Some tables sat un-bussed our entire visit and well past when Vernon's closed. Geez. We were finally sat, ordered bottomless mimosas, and beelined it to the buffet. That was a mighty-fine buffet. The Parisian items included Madam Croquette, French Toast, Steak & Frites, Croque monsieur, French-style scrambled eggs and more. In addition to some of these items I also grabbed some peppered bacon, crab claws, and shrimp, and a small salad. Not really knowing if they start taking stuff away before the buffet shuts down I went ahead and grabbed a second plate of desserts, from flourless chocolate cake to minibar donuts and baby tarts. They also had made to order omelettes and crepes but I didn't partake in those. I had enough food to go through. We chit-chatted while we ate and no one made us feel rushed. Everything tasted amazing and not a crumb was left behind. The service didn't start out too well but by the time the meal was over it had greatly improved. I would want to return to try some of their other brunch themes.

I can't say enough about this new menu. Themed Brunch until 2pm every Sunday. Every 5th Sunday is Chef's Choice menu. Today was 'Pacific Rim' a creative Philipino menu from Chef Antonio Llaneta and Chef Melanie Cuartelon. The whole roasted Pig was the show stopper! It was moist, tender and delicious! There was a Pancit and fried rice station offering a cooked to order. Kare Kare was my favorite! Oxtail that fell off the bone, in a savory comforting gravy . Poke Bowl, beef short ribs, garlic rice, lumpia, Afritada, sweet and sour snapper, Pan de sol to name a few. Desserts included: Cassava, tropical fruit salad, flan , ube pancakes with coconut syrup and Buko Pandan cookies. The kids station included: philipino spagetti, mini pancakes and cute rice krispie sushi( treats with gummy fish on top, adorable!) For 2, $53+tip. Service is outstanding and friendly. Food is delicious and grounds are immaculate. Highly recommend. 1/4/2020: update: new management and staff. Was great food and service. However, the bread selection was severely lacking. Not a deal breaker, but I was always looking forward to the baked breads and local Jams :(

Vernon's is one of my favorite places for Sunday brunch buffet. Each week is a different theme. This week's theme was flavors from the Mediterranean, featuring a rack of lamb carving station, a salad bar (with a killer octopus pasta salad), seafood, a made-to-order omelet and pasta station, and a kids-only buffet for the most discerning of tastes in your family. Served every Sunday from 10a-2p. Check them out inside the Sawgrass Marriott

Vernon's Soulful Sunday brunch buffet was fantastic aside from the fact that they didn't have the basic grits, sausage and scramble trio, it was on point on every level. The buffet presented well, and each time I walked up to the buffet bar it wasn't messy or in shambles. The food was excellent. Everything I tasted was delicious: collard greens, crab claws, shrimp, gourmet pepper bacon, hummingbird pancakes, pineapple sauce, red velvet cupcakes, standing roast beef and breakfast casserole. There was also an omelet station complete with what looked like everything. The restaurant was clean and bright overall. Our seats were heavy and very comfortable although a little dingy. Our server was absolutely incredible. The bonus that I won't soon forget was the Chris Thomas Trio. Oh, my goodness, this ensemble heightened the experience. The music and the vocals were tight, rich and soulful. Everybody was grooving to the beautiful music and couples were on the floor dancing at one o'clock in the afternoon. The grand finale was this cute couple that stepped with the most elegant swing to the band's last song. Soulful Sunday Brunch at Vernon's was a special treat.

Inside the Sawgrass Resort, you will find Vernon's First Coast Kitchen. We made reservations for 6:30pm on a Saturday Evening. We get to the restaurant and there was no one to great us. We were sat but a waiter, that sat us at a corner table away from others in the restaurant. Definitely felt isolated. Our waitress couldn't really answer any of our questions about the menu. I asked " how many ounces was the New York Strip and the Grilled Pork Chop", and she had no idea. For an "upscale" resort restaurant, this is something you should know. We ordered the grilled octopus for a starter and it was delicious. Along with the slight spicy mustard sauce I was wanting more! My Grilled Pork Chip (14 oz) was pretty damn good. Tender and packed with flavor! Overall the food was great but the service needs work.

Had breakfast here two mornings in a row. Opted both mornings for the breakfast buffet - which includes an Omelette Bar. I ordered a custom omelette both mornings: Spinach, mushrooms, onions, scallions, fresh jalapeños (not pickled or brined), cheddar cheese, and sausage. Omelette was cooked in butter and was excellent both times! I added a side of their Applewood smoked bacon and some berries: red and black raspberries and blueberries, a bit of smoked salmon. One morning I also noted they make their own corned beef hash. So I had to try it. Wow - is it ever tender, tasty, and succulent! Almost melts in your mouth! Some of the best corned beef hash I've had in a long time. Coffee was decent, service was excellent both times.

First time at Vernon's - definitely would suggest this for any {Sunday brunch} special occasion! Loved that this was a farm to table featuring local cuisines {& a micro farm}. So many choices of delicious flavorful foods, decadent sweets, & $10 {AYCD} mimosas. Each Sunday is a different theme & those with littles can drop them off close by to enjoy a little kid version with someone there to supervise; win win for parents & kids! Overall great brunch experience - definitely want to come back!

My first visit to Vernon's for my daughter's birthday. The venue is beautiful, modern, and upscale. As a plus the Chris Thomas band played throughout our brunch experience what a treat. The buffet was amazing. I enjoyed their grits with braised beef and gravy, their New Orleans eggs which has an egg over easy with veggies and french fries, further down the buffet was a green bean casserole, red beans and rice and of course beignets. The seafood table included jambalaya and a low country crayfish boil with horseradish on the side. Their dessert bar included mini versions of a whip Banana Foster, donut, bourbon pecan torte and buttercream cupcakes. Apparently each Sunday is a different thing. This Sunday was Jazz and Art with the Jazz provided by the Chris Thomas band and the art was shown at the children's table, yes there is a separate children Buffet. Really loved this idea. There are children favorites available there like macaroni and cheese, a pancake station, and for the art inspiration, Rice Krispie treats dipped to look like paint brushes how creative!

We stopped in to enjoy the breakfast buffet at Vernon's. The cost is $23.00 per person and offers everything to build the perfect breakfast experience. The restaurant is lovely and offers a beautiful view of the waterfalls. Chris was our waiter and he was on top of his job making our experience perfect. We also interacted with the buffet Chef. Matthew was outstanding in every way. He is not only a masterful Chef but also extremely personable.

The next morning, after a restful night's sleep at the Sawgrass Marriott, I headed down to the lobby and discovered that Vernon's Restaurant was serving a flat-fee, all-you-can-inhale breakfast buffet for under $20. The restaurant has a big picture windows with a beautiful view out over the golf course. Most of the golfers were up early, and so the restaurant was not as crowded. The buffet was amazing with big bowls of fresh fruit, freshly-made buttermilk biscuits with sawmill gravy, homemade corned beef hash, all sorts of breakfast meats (bacon, ham, sausage), scrambled eggs, omelets cooked to order, cheese platters, charcuterie, pancakes, waffles, juices, and more. The selection of food was enormous for a typical week-day brunch. The chefs behind the buffet were very pleasant, and the servers were circulating around the dining room, refilling drinks, and whisking away empty plates. This was a very enjoyable experience, and a great way to start my day on the outskirts of Jacksonville.

My boyfriend and I came to stay at the Sawgrass Marriott for a mini vacation. We made dinner reservations at a bar downtown and decided to stop at the Wine bar at Vernon's. I was blown away by the friendless of the bartender and how nice the atmosphere was. We were starting a conversation with Steven, our bartender and happened to mention we were vegan- he immediately told us we were in luck because one of the chefs is a specialized vegan chef and told us to wait so he can bring out Chef Riley. Riley was so nice and accommodating- basically anything we wanted he could cook for us. Even a three course meal! We said we wanted to be surprised and we were blown away! Basically I am so happy we canceled our reservations and stayed at our own hotel! As we closed out our tab, Riley mentioned he would be working the following day and can specialize breakfast, lunch or dinner all VEGAN! We were thrilled and had a vegan lunch at the Alice and Pete pub downstairs. Our meals included - Crispy artichoke in a creamy pesto sauce Cream of mushroom & cauliflower soup with sweet potatoes Spinach and artichoke Dip Black bean and beat burgers with smoked Gouda cheese, bbq tomato sauce and lemon rosemary French fries- Strawberry cheesecake with raw nut crust... AMAZING! Thank you for all the great service!

Our View of the rooftop from our table in Vernon's Restaurant. No pretty lake, fountain or golf course view.

She was such a sweetheart, made us feel welcome, and honestly was one of the highlights of our night. We had a lot of fun because of her kindness and great service. Unfortunately, there were two issues that really impacted my experience. First, I had an uncomfortable incident in the restroom. I admit I forgot to lock the stall door, but I was the only person in the restroom, and an employee opened the stall door without knocking or announcing themselves. They stood there for a few seconds before closing the door and leaving. It was embarrassing and made me feel very uncomfortable. We did speak to the manager afterward, and she was very kind and handled the conversation professionally, which I appreciated. The second issue was more concerning. After our meal, both my friend and I became sick. She had the penne pasta, and I had the chicken tenders. While I can't say with certainty what caused it, the timing was concerning enough that I felt it was important to mention. Overall, Mandy's service and the manager's kindness were excellent, but the restroom incident and becoming ill afterward unfortunately affected what otherwise could have been a great experience.
