I've eaten here twice on Mondays, once for breakfast with my teenagers and once for lunch with my family and in-laws. Both times we had very friendly and efficient service. Wait times for the food were reasonable. I enjoyed my eggs Benedict with avocado and my tuna melt. If the peach iced tea is on the daily specials board, get it - it's delicious! This was our first visit. The good: great people, fast service, quickly corrects mistakes. The bad: got my order wrong the first time and our server was a bit awol. The ugly: served me coffee in a dirty cup. Yuck. Also, HOLY SALT!! The food was so salty it was only just edible. Seriously, there is no need to heavily salt grilled chicken. First time my sister & I visited & it will be our last. While they have an interesting menu, we were not very pleased. First, my sister's sandwich came w/a choice of either fries, chips or a side salad. She chose the latter. Her side salad was full of old, brown lettuce, so much so that she had to pull several leaves out as they were not edible. The manager told us they chopped their lettuce fresh every day. Bull. My sandwich (Reuben) came w/the same options & I chose the fries. The fries must have been sitting out for quite a while because they were cold & limp. Half-way thru the Reuben, I spotted several pieces of hard boiled egg. I have yet to find hard boiled egg in any Reuben I've ever had in all my years! I re-checked the menu & there is NO mention (nor should there be) of hard boiled egg in a Reuben. It gets worse. Our server had the annoying habit of stretching over us while we were eating to collect things like the wrapper from our straws, but the most annoying thing was when she stretched over us while we were eating to refill the jelly containers. Very, very unprofessional. When we got the bill, we were charged for the side salad, even though that was one of the choices with the sandwiches. When did complain to the manager (again) about the hard boiled egg, the old brown lettuce & the charge for the salad, but all he offered was the return of the less than dollar charge for the salad. After a super long day we got to Metro Diner a half an hour before they closed. I was super worried that they would turn us away or tell us that the kitchen was closed, but we were welcomed with a smile and menus. We ordered standard fare, and it was so good! Co workers were bragging about the chicken and waffles. I just had to try! We called in a big order with a lot of special requests. My coworker went to pick up and unfortunately two items were missing. Contacted them and the manager apologized, asked what was missing and agreed to deliver the items. I don't think they offer delivery but he came 10 minutes later with the missing items and coupons. I'm giving 5 stars! The food was excellent and service was great. Mistakes are bound to happen. This would have easily been a 4 maybe five star but we were sat and left un greeted for almost 10 minutes. I am patient and not one to get up and find out server or the managed just something that should be addressed. Once we did get a server it was smooth sailing. Portions were large and the California Benedict was crave-able. The avocado slices were fresh and green and the hollandaise sauce was one of the best around. Metro Diner has quickly become a favorite lunch spot for my friends and me. Their all-day breakfasts are fantastic & the hash browns are delicious. I have always liked everything I've ordered (their daily specials & pot pies are amazing!), but probably our favorite are the burgers!!! Always done exactly as ordered! To me, the thing that keeps us coming back even over the food is the friendly, personal touch given by every single person at Metro Diner. Our waitress, Melanie, was attentive without being intrusive. She clearly loves her job!! And the owner, Jackson, approached us as we left inquiring if we enjoyed our lunch. Absolutely horrible....didn't think you could mess up breakfast but I was wrong. Ordered over med eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. The eggs were sitting in a puddle of butter on my plate and they were still white and slimy (definitely not over med) the bacon was burnt to a crisp and when I asked for new bacon not well done it came out burnt AGAIN and i was told that's the way they cook it (nasty). The hashbrowns were super burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. I definitely expected much better. I left hungry bc I didn't want to get more burnt food. Food was greasy and tasted like it was deep fried. If I could give it 0 stars I would!!! read more

Stopped here by chance on the way back from a lacrosse tourney and wow I was pleasantly surprised and very happy. Food was amazing! Service was wonderful (thank you Paris and the manager, sorry your name escapes me). Bathrooms were clean (this is always important to me). If you're ever in the area definitely give them a try. Just went to breakfast here this morning after voting. My colleagues and I enjoyed our meals and coffee. The breakfast sandwich dish that my friend ordered was missing the cheese and had too much egg, but still was ok. My other friend enjoyed the special: river city hash. And I enjoyed the fruity waffle, although the strawberries were mushy and tasted like the smell of nail polish remover. The service was great and everyone plus our waitress was willing to help us and top off our beverages. When we paid we received an iPad. My friend requested to print receipt but it didn't work and he did not get his receipt. I will be returning and I look forward to trying other dishes. read more

Terrible customer service. My mother and I ordered breakfast from here via door dash. When our food arrived a whole meal was missing and 1/2 of the "chicken and waffle" special was missing. Naturally we called the Door Dash driver (who just left the food on the doormat) he brushed us off and told us to call Metro Dinner. We called Metro Dinner and the manager said this was glitch on Door Dash told us to call Door Dash for a refund and then abruptly hung up. My mother filed a refund through Door Dash and immediately was credit for about $15 which amounted to the price of the missing food. While this may have been a mistake on Door Dash's end they did ultimately rectify it with the refund. Yet my disappointment stays with Metro Dinner, they lacked tack in handling this situation. The manager did not seem interested in fostering client relations. You would think with businesses suffering and begging to reopen the fortunate ones would be a little kinder to those who patron their restaurants. read more

My husband and I decide to give metro a second chance after our not so pleasant first visit @ the Newark location . We were beyond surprised at the difference in our experience at the Wilmington store . We had a very sweet and menu knowledgeable server. She suggested the challah French toast because we had mentioned our favorite hole in the wall in philly which has a similar menu item and she had also been there ! Definitely going to request her for next time , I believe her name was Cameron . The manager was very nice and stopped by to ask how our meal was . Everything came out and exceeded our standards. This place had great service and food. I think will be my last time ordering here. First I ordered curbside and was waiting but no one came. So I went in and no one was around. One of the cooks finally aknowledged me to tell me someone is coming. Someone finally did. My order was ready and sitting there. I ordered chicken and waffles the chicken was burnt. The waffles was supposed to have powered sugar but there is hardly any on it. I didn't want butter but got it. Very disappointed. I did support but not anymore. read more

My boyfriend and I were eager to try out this new establishment this morning. Upon arriving we we're wowed with the atmosphere and decor. This, however, turned out to be a ruse. A quick inspection of my flaccid omelette revealed a disappointing truth; all the veggies came from a can and were haphazardly tossed into the center of the "omelette". One bite was all it took to confirm this hypothesis. Service was decent, but it seemed these worker are forced to dance and act super happy. Kinda weird if you ask me. One and done! My wife and I had breakfast at the Metro Diner this morning. I had the Western omelet with hashbrowns and coffee, my wife had the Veggie omelet with hashbrowns and decaf coffee. Service was very good - the server was friendly, professional, attentive and diligent. The meal - not so much. My Western omelet was way overstuffed with the usual Western omelet ingredients. This doesn't sound like it should give rise to a criticism but between the amount and poor cooking technique, the ingredients were lukewarm to cold. So the eggs were ok but the ingredients were obviously not preheated and added to the omelet late in the cooking process - voila an omelet warm on the outside, cold on the inside! So the omelet was at best bland....I ate about half. My wife's omelet which she had made with egg whites was mediocre in taste as well - she didn't complain about the temperature of the stuffing; she ate about half as well. The hashbrowns were ok, shredded potatoes....my wife liked them, I thought they were mediocre again. Generally, I rate breakfasts at restaurants in comparison to my own cooking which is adequate. I can do better than Metro Diner with an omelet, so why bother going there. read more

Went to this place 2 weeks ago. Will mot be returning. 630pm dinner. Only 3 other tables in use. Waited 10 minutes after being seated, before server came to table. After placing order, could hear the cooks complaining about our order. Food came 25 minutes later. Wife food was greasy, daughters hamburger undercooked, I ordered Cream chipped beef, it was ice cold. Cooks were yelling at each other and cursing loudly. Complained with no response. Also received 2 extra coffees during my meal, hadn't finished my first coffee and hadn't been asked if I would like a refill or another coffee or a third coffee, they just showed up.
