Visited Metropolitan Pizza while out for a walk in West Village and I'm glad I stopped in. They serve slices, which I really appreciate since most places don't. I tried a square slice with pepperoni and hot honey and it was excellent, just the right balance of sweet and heat, and full of flavor. I also had a round slice with banana peppers and mushrooms, which was tasty but the square definitely stood out as my favorite. The space itself has indoor seating and a bar, plus an ice cream shop inside (unfortunately it was closed by the time I finished my pizza). The area is beautiful and this place makes for a great neighborhood pit stop if you're exploring West Village. read more

This is one of my favorite little spots to pop into for food and a great drink. They have very interesting pizza selections and my favorite burger is their vegetarian burger, which is wonderful. The bartenders always know exactly what you need and they make the drinks with flair. It's never really crowded in here so it's the perfect getaway if you wanna talk with somebody and have great food. The decorations are cute and festive. read more

We love the happy hour here. The restaurant is in walking distance from our house so it's very convenient . I work from home so it is easy to get sidetracked and not remember to eat lunch. Metropolitan is the best place for me to grab a quick lunch and in some cases enjoy a sitdown meal with my husband. Service is fast and the food is fresh so I cannot complain . I ate the chicken strips. My husband had the hamburger we shared an order of fries, and we both had some cocktails at a celebration lunch that we recently had. It was a very cute bar inside and the table service was very efficient. We have also ordered pizza to go, which is a wonderful late night option if you are in the area or in the mood to pick up a really awesome pizza. It's got outdoor seating, which is perfect in the spring fall and summer and it is very fun to sit and snack, drink and chat on Friday Saturday night nights. Metropolitan is back now after several months of ambiguity. I went from being a weekly regular to just not going for several months because you wouldn't know what you were walking into if you went. So any reviews previous to this one are about either that weird in-between time or the restaurant with the previous chef and menu. The new menu is more approachable which was the intention according to social media. They have a good burger (not quiet as good as the previous one that used meat from Marrow, but it's definitely good). The fries are good although I *hate* the trend of serving fries in a paper bag, which always seems like you are being told to leave. Serving fries in a metal bowl also keeps them warm without seeming like you're telling your patrons to leave. My other turn off is the Chicken Tenders listed as "Kids Tenders"... Which actually when I say it, sounds like tenders made out of children... Maybe I want chicken tenders too, but I can't have them because I'm not a kid? Couldn't they just be chicken tenders with a mini and a main size option, then everyone could have chicken tenders regardless of their age or appetite? I assume this is to signal that Metropolitan is family friendly now but I wish there were chicken not on the bone options for adults too. And, as someone who is child-free by choice, my favorite neighborhood bar becoming family friendly is less than thrilling but for people with children, this is probably very exciting. One of the first times I went after the re-opening, there were several children there, to various degrees of loud and armed with whistles. Fortunately, their are drinks. The drinks program and menu are solid and one thing I did notice is the cocktails are less expensive than on the previous menu, though the wine selection seems to have increased in price but I know they were still working on the pricing and structure when I was there last so I won't post that menu. Came in for a nice Sunday Brunch and was pretty satisfied. Metropolitan is tucked in the nice little neighborhood if West Village with a great surrounding community. I ordered the Pork hash with a side of chicken sausage. I also got a mimosa and beermosa which were both good. The pork hash was a nice hearty and filling meal. The potatoes were roasted with bell peppers and onions and still had that fluffy interior. The egg was fried but the yolk was still somehow runny, was very good! The pork belly was crispy and juicy and when paired with the garlic aioli - a combo that needs to be together. Will definitely be back! read more

Right in the edge of famous Indian Village in Detroit. The food is amazing. The service is very good. Their wine list is ever evolving so there's no official list: Just walk up to the wall of wine and tell them what your want. A pretty good selection of affordable, good wines, too. This place feels like a library with a bar and Mexican music in the background. Apparently, you HAVE to have reservations and that reservation requires a deposit. Service fee (aka: 20% tip) is included at the end of the bill. They will refund your deposit to whatever card you want; even if it's not the card you used for the reservation. It does not get taken off the bill, though, as that would mess up the service fee. read more

I live in the neighborhood and love to support my local businesses. With that said, there is no consistencies with the recent "Pizza" addition. If I order a cheese pizza, I expect cheese covered over the whole pizza, not sparely blots. This could be a great spot, but the restaurant operates from a tight budget, jeopardizing quality by not having the money to operate the restaurant appropriately. You can't cut corners on the cheese, if you sell pizzas. The store is a whole different discussion. Like the convenience, but the store is never stocked properly. How can a store run out of pop? It never can have stock consistently. Borrow the money and keep inventory, this brings consistent customers. But if every other day there is no sprite, no ginger ale, no milky way bars, no cognac, that shouts you can't remain open. You can't run a store without inventory!!! read more

Not good. We had wraps, burgers, and the drummies. The burger was smaller than the onion slice on top. It was over cooked, which isn't surprising because it was tiny. Maybe it was 1/4 of a pound at most. I had to take the onion off because it was so over powering. The service was bad. The server never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. Never refilled the water, even after we asked for water. We didn't have napkins or silverware. We had to ask for plates to go with the appetizers. And the kitchen didn't help. Our food came out at all different times. My dad finished his burger before mine came out. We literally ordered the exact same thing. And I finished mine before my moms came out. She also had a burger. Three burgers. Three different times. My sons each had chicken, but the server didn't even bring the necessary side for the chicken. The atmosphere is nice but being an old apothecary doesn't make up for the food and service being terrible. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. read more

We happened to be hopping around for the night and wanted to check out the new restaurant that took over the former Kraftwork location. This space has been divided into a market, bar & kitchen. The Metropolitan has two bar areas and a space for dining. We checked out the venue and headed to the back bar. I was pleased to see that they kept most of design & decor the same. We were presented with menus and I learned that the head chef is from the former Gold Cash Gold. Everyone around the bar was raving about the dishes. I wasn't hungry just wanted a cocktail, my friend insisted that we give something a try. Lol Okay...twist my arm! He ordered the Grilled Octopus for us. Typically, I'm not one to order such a dish, it's truly about texture for me, but this was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the vibe of this place! The bartenders were great and the patrons around the bar bought a few rounds of shots. Oh what a night! Very disappointing. First thing prices are outrageous for some of the sides. $15 for 3/4 cup of cauliflower? $12 for 5 exceptionally small carrots? Waitstaff was rude and condescending. I asked if she could wait to clear the dishes when I was finished eating, she immediately put all the dishes that she had in her hand back on our table and refused to clear any of the dishes until another member of the staff came over and cleared. Ordered the shoshito peppers and burger. Bun was burnt and the burger was burnt all around the edges and raw in the middle. Complained to the waiter, but didn't wish to wait for another one. Ordered some potatoes to fill me up instead. When the bill came was a little surprised: 20% tip already added and they did not subtract the $20 reservation fee to the bill. If we had not asked, we never would have gotten the money back. And they didn't comp us the inedible meal or give us the potatoes for free, although clearly I didn't eat the burnt burger. Came to Metropolitan Bar & Kitchen for a friend's birthday with a party of 7. The restaurant was accommodating but did ask for a deposit for reservation ($10/person). Entering the restaurant was a little confusing since you have to go through a small bar first before entering the restaurant towards the back. There was a welcome drink available for free called the Welcome Punch, which was a nice touch, but our waiter did not tell us about this and we had to ask midway through the dinner. The roasted potatoes were super tasty for appetizers and we split 3 servings across the table. They had MANY vegetarian options and the servings were tasty and filling. For a main dish, I tried the green beans and the tostada. Both were great, especially the tostada - would highly recommend it. One of the other guests had the pork and was not pleased with its lukewarm temperature. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, with purple mood lighting towards the end of the night. read more

I ordered a Bloody Mary & the chicken drummies w/fried egg, biscuit, pickled haricot verts & a delicious sauce. It took forever to be served; I asked twice over 30 minutes & finally my food appeared! Although I could not taste any vodka in my drink, the food was tasty! The bartender Chase (butter tattoo) appeared & said my meal had been comped due to the lengthy wait. I left no tip! We had a wonderful experience at Metropolitan Kitchen. It is so much better than the restaurant (Kraftwerk) it replaces. The menu has a good variety that should suit most tastes. We started with the plantain tostados and they are excellent. We had read others' rave reviews about them and have to agree. They are likely to become a "signature dish". We then had the octopus, the burger and a side of the crispy potatoes. Everything was delicious. Good octopus is hard to find in Detroit and the chef does it right-tender, slightly charred and full of flavor. My only (very minor) complaint would be the beer selection. The only NA beer they offer is an IPA and we thought that was an unusual choice if only having one non-alcoholic beer on the menu. That is especially true considering the restaurant's market next door has a large selection of NA beer, but you can't order it in the restaurant. The star of the evening was the service. The hostess was a joy and our server was perfect. I believe her name is Lindsey and she was amazing.
