We were looking for a New Mexican restaurant to try out. We found this Mexican restaurant. It has about eight tables (mostly for 2-3 people seating) inside with a couple of outside tables. They prefer you to pay in cash (if at all possible), so be prepared to bring cash. Reasonable prices and friendly service. Your meal comes with chips & salsa too. We requested "Grilled" chicken, but they only have "Shredded" chicken instead. Our dinner was a super burrito & street tacos. We found the food to be somewhat bland, but adequate. I read good reviews, so I thought we would try this place. Since it is Christmas time, I bought a pork tamal and a bowl of menudo. I started having second thoughts when I saw them microwaving both items. The menudo had no flavor, the broth was a very pale red. The only thing good was that it did have lots of tripe. The tamal was dried out and I couldn't even get it to stick to my fork. I don't think I will be back, there are lots of other places in Lincoln that are way better. read more

If you're driving through Lincoln along Lincoln Blvd, make a right on Fifth St., right over the railroad tracks, if you look to your left, you will find the Mexican Deli. don't blink, because you just might miss it. It's a hole in the wall with great food and service. This is the first Mexican restaurant I've eaten at in Lincoln. Just like opinions, everyone has their favorite Mexican restaurant. Mexican Deli delivers authentic Mexican favorites. Hands down, their chimichanga has got to be the Best in town. It is packed with meat and cheese and not fatty meat, which some places add or a lot of rice and beans fill it up. Matter of fact, Mexican Deli is the first place we ate a chimichanga at. So this review is 20 years over due. One of the schools I use to work at would get food catered from here and it is so good! They have the best rice and beans too. What a basic name for a restaurant, Mexican Deli. In reality I've known another restaurant elsewhere by the same name. This place is extremely basic and a bit of a 'hole on the wall'. You can easily miss it tucked way back off the street with a nondescript parking lot out front, and not much advertisement signage. It looks a bit like a uncared for Victorian cottage with a storefront from the street. Yet, the place is seemingly popular and busy, even mid-day, and very inexpensive. We got some small, mid-sized burritos, Chile Colorado, and they were delicious for a quick snack. The meat was tender and tasty, the tortilla very fresh and delicious. It came with a small container of spicy red sauce. I'll be back to try more things, including a super burrito. Albeit it a bit of a put off in initial appearance, I think they excel with the food offerings, at a very good price. read more

This restaurant serves my favorite shredded beef crispy tacos in Lincoln! They also have excellent rice, beans, burritos, chile rellenos, chips and salsas. The time I went to try them was just after their lunch rush. They took my order fast and they were pleasant. The lady who took my order left, and didn't turn my order in after I paid. I was waiting for My food after ordering. Realized they cooked My enchiladas in the microwave in a styrofoam container. Styrofoam has been proven to be a carcinogen. It will leach into your food. I could not believe what I was seeing. All these years I've been eating these not realizing how they were being cooked. Styrene has been proven to cause cancer. This place has the best Chile verde I've had anywhere, but their upkeep need serious attention. The dirty condition of their restrooms makes me question how clean the kitchen is. I've been going to this place for over 40 years and it was always my "go to place" for Mexican food in Lincoln. It's changed. They hassle you if you try to use a credit or debit card, wanting cash instead. No more free chips. No salsa with the meal. The man at the register (first time I saw him there) was rude and abrupt when I tried to order my food. I've been ordering the same dish there for years and he seemed confused when I tried to place the order (taco, burrito, beans and rice). Started talking fast. Got my order wrong (forgot the drink). I don't know if the place has changed ownership or not. The food was good as usual but it wasn't a pleasant experience. read more

I finally tried the Mexican Deli in Lincoln, CA. It was lunchtime, I was hungry and decided to order takeout. Overall, this was a positive experience. While it did not matter to me ... this visit, I did notice very limited indoor and "potentially" some outdoor seating. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was packed well for takeout and arrived home 15 minutes later, hot and tasty. I order a combination plate which included the standard rice, beans and lettuce. My cheese enchilada and beef taco were very good ... full of fresh flavors. The tostada I selected was pork based. Again, not bad at all. Generous portions of meat. I knew the minute I walked in the front door the food was going to be good. It's a little dated inside, but very clean. You are able to see directly into the kitchen and the way the ladies dressed reminded me of when I was young. Meaning the "old school" pullover shirt aprons. Friendly young lady greeted us at the counter. Food was priced very well and large portions. The ingredients were fresh and the overall meal was delicious. Both my husband and I enjoyed it. After our first visit a couple of months ago, we have been back no less than 5 times. Met the owner who was a very nice man. My daughter always wants a Flaunta. This was such a find - thanks to the good Yelp reviews. A small simple place tucked away behind Lincoln's pretty main drag past the RR tracks, I missed it the first on the first go around. Ordered the regular and bean and cheese burrito to takeaway. They were prepared right away and came with little tubs of red hot sauces - really added to the flavors. Alright, burritos: the regular one was filled w/refried beans, cheese and (I think) pork carnitas. Absolutely delish! What a treat for $2.99. Bean & cheese: quick ooeygooey protein yumminess for the hungry athlete - and it wasn't heavy at all! Would definitely try more of their menu next time. read more

Just a local hole in the wall very small restaurant. Friends told us about it years ago. Have been going back ever since. We have only eaten breakfast there. I love their machcha? Not sure if I spell it right. It is shredded beef, onions, eggs. Husband has Chorizo/eggs. Their beans and rice are exactly like great-grandma made. Could use a little dusting and walls painted, but we just over look it and enjoy our food. Kind of like a restaurant in Mexico. They have a lot of to go orders on weekends when we go there. I've been coming here for at least a 2 years I've always hesitated with the enchiladas today. I wish I would've hesitated a lot longer had a really odd taste, tried to call no answer, rather, if it's me or not. I find it that they have been rude as well I've always overlooked it because the food was exceptional for the price, while having Mexican food in America, I expect authentic, taste, and experience I receive neither, and they Rico special not worthy of my hard earned dollars, when my girlfriends enchiladas were made, as if chemicals were induced in it like a soapy taste, we rather return to the Mexican restaurant that's next to McDonald's that put their enchiladas in the microwave before serving before we render our taste buds to something that was so utterly disgusting, fix you enchilada game either way I won't be back to try it.. read more

Once again, I'm blown away by the low average rating on Yelp. My moved to the area in 1989. Shortly after, we discovered what we've always called "The Tracks" (Mexican Deli). I have many memories of scarfing down chicken chimichangas while freight trains rumbled and rattled by, mere feet outside of the eastern wall. On weekends, I witnessed families entering the front door with large pots. As they left, the weight of pozole or menudo made their journey back to their vehicles a bit more challenging, but it was obvious that the family they'd return to with their prize would be overjoyed. Over the years, I ran into friends and family here and often noticed people in their work clothes, dirty from their day's labor, eating large plates of tacos, burritos, beans, and rice. I used to have "Straighten Up and Fly Right" stuck in my head for days after eating at The Tracks. There used to be a toy dispenser ($.50 got you a little bubble with a toy) that featured Fred Flintstone and Dino and the opening piano trill from that song played on a loop when the machine was plugged in. The machine must have run out of oomph over the years as it can no longer be found inside. From my recollection, I've never had a disappointing meal at Mexican Deli. As I mentioned, I've been eating here for well over 30 years. I took in a meal there last Saturday with my mother and grandmother. Their rellenos looked fresh and crispy. The beans and rice were very tasty. I had my old favorite (Chicken Chimi) and was happy to finish just as satisfied with the meal as I would have been as a kid. Our meal was even accompanied by the old reliable feature of a train horn and a fair amount of vibration as the engines and freight cars passed by the restaurant. If you're new to lincoln or you've just somehow missed out, I highly recommend dropping in for a plate of delicious genuine mexican food at the Mexican Deli. read more

It's not about the ambiance or engaging service, this is a no nonsense kind of place with great food, based on my extremely limited experience after one visit. After a busy day, we were hungry, but it was late in the afternoon and we had dinner reservations for the same evening. Knowing we wouldn't make it until dinner, we stopped here based on other's reviews. You can tell this place is the real deal, but they were struggling through a late afternoon rush. We decided to each get the chili- Colorado $2.99 burrito -- chili--Colorado, melted cheese wrapped up in a tortilla. TASTY! They have Super Burritos, which I assume to be the meat, beans, rice, etc. -- that would have been too much for this visit, but definitely for a future visit.
