We love Don Quixote's! It's one of our favorite spots whenever we're craving authentic Mexican food. I usually order the shrimp burrito bowl, while the kids love the tortas and tacos. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and the portions are generous. The unlimited chips are always a plus, and the salsa bar is fantastic. I especially love the pico de gallo and the salsa verde they're some of my favorites. I finally made it in to try their Quesabirria Tacos after reading online some raving reviews about them! Not only did it take forever to get them brought to my table, but they were rather disappointing. There was not a lot of meat in the tacos and the meat that was there had a ton of fat! They were also very bland in flavor. They also took out the Diet Dr. Pepper. So sad. I will be back but I'll be sticking to my chicken nachos. read more

It had been a while since we last visited, but we decided to do an online order to pick up lunch on a Saturday. Our order had a ready time of 15 minutes. It actually ended up being 10 minutes past that time. As we waited, we saw a burrito go out to be served at a table, but it was no one's order & carried back. It was actually ours & it finally got sorted out. We were offered a couple of free fountain drink beverages because of the wait. I appreciate that the to-go containers are wrapped in plastic wrap to protect from liquid spillage. The restaurant is small inside with close quarters seating at tables & booths at some odd angles. Large windows add brightness. There is more outdoor seating in front. Fountain drinks are self accessible & a bar with chips, salsas, & lots of accompaniments is self serve. Our order-- -Steak Chipotle Ranch Burrito with customizations, wet -Triple Item Combination Plate with Adovada Enchilada & 2 Chile Verde Tamales, black beans, orange rice The burrito was yummy, customizations were correct. The adovada was delicious, the enchilada sauce is uniquely tasty. We love the moist tamales with the pleasantly acidic & tender chile verde. Black beans had good texture & taste, & the orange rice is flavorful, but cumulatively the bites eat a little salty for me. After hearing amazing things about this place from my friend, we decided to give it a go!!! The outside area looked bigger and very inviting! Which is already a good sign of a good ambiance! I snapped a pic of the storefront I will post! It was just as beautiful inside as well once we went in. INSTANT smell of something cooking that was delicious I knew we were at one of the best spots in Rocklin! Service was excellent! Since our server knew my friend since he was a local, he was extremely friendly with us! We had the option to sit down and there was a generous amount of seating, we ordered our food to go because we were in a hurry but I would LOVE to go back there and go in to depth more with their menu because it was absolutely huge. I ended up getting some tacos and a drink when my friend had gotten something else that looked BEYOND delicious! Once we got back and set everything up it looked soooo good and I was right! I have been here several times and always have enjoyed the quality food and the taste they offer. I typically prefer the fish taco varieties specifically love the Chimichurri grilled Fish tacos!!! They have a great salsa bar as well from mild to extra hot and it's all good, there are even pickled carrots and jalapeños! It is a great atmosphere, both inside with plenty of seating and outside on a covered patio. Highly recommend this place as a go to for Mexican food. read more

Update: I normally go here on the evenings for dinner but today 3/30 I went in here for lunch because we had a house guest we wanted to take out. The girl making the food was kind of all over the place. Definitely made portions a lot smaller if the person wasn't watching. She made my chili verde burrito more into a "rice" burrito and sprinkled in some meat here and there. Very disappointing. It's about what you would expect from an average Mexican place. I'd rate it a little higher than a high class Chipotle. The music is authentic and the paintings and sculptures are nice. A little more with the roof would be nice though, maybe like hanging plants or paintings of people who have passed... And the employees are extremely kind here, I accidentally dropped a cap to the salsa and instantly with a smile on her face, an employee picked it up for me and handed it to me. The worst food you could ever eat!! The woman behind the counter is so extremely rude and rushes you when ordering. The rice is under cooked, the tamales are so dry and bland that I couldn't eat my food.The employees argue in front of customers which makes it very uncomfortable and unprofessional. I wanted to revisit thinking perhaps this was just a bad day for them and before I wrote about my experience. Unfortunately, it was a bad decision. As I was in line to order I had glanced over to a table behind me and I saw a rat running across the floor and that was it for me. I didn't order and just left feeling disgusted. As a Latino I am PROFOUNDLY EMBARRASSED for the Latino staff the works here. What if we ripped off Chipotle but the food was terrible This is the 2nd worst Mexican food Ive ever had. The 1st being Bowling alley nachos in Montreal that was tortilla chips topped with marinara sauce american cheese black olives and mushrooms. This was 1st in a different category. Without a doubt the blandest most flavorless food I have ever had. Not a single food item we eat tasted of anything except textured air and water. Their spiciest salsa tasted of nothing I've had spicier tap water. Our 9 month old was able to taste every bit of "spicy" "chipotle" covered food we had and he didnt react. Are you whiter than the driven snow? Is Taco bell too authentic? Is Salt too spicy for you? They this is the restaurant for you. While this may seem like a dramatic joke the parade of 85 year old Karen cut regulars made it obvious this is their intended target audience. The price is reasonable for the portion size. The meat was dry but the restaurant was clean. However this is NOT Mexican food. Its an insult to insinuate otherwise. I've been ordering from here for years. I found them on DoorDash and always thought the food was so good. I finally came in person a few months ago and it is even better when it's fresh! The workers are always on top of it and give you quality service and food. I get the combination plate with pozole every time I go and it's my favorite Mexican place in the area by far. Amazing experience! My brother owns a retail store across the street and is a big supporter - now I know why! My barometer of a great Mexican restaurant is always the chips & salsa. I went crazy with the homemade chips & salsa & fresh guacamole! My mom's dog was welcome on the patio- adorable sign out front even says so - as long as the owner is well behaved! The quality to price ration (QPR) is outstanding here. I got two enchiladas, beans, rice, salad for $12. It was a mountain of food. It was one of the best Mexican meals I've had in months. (I eat Mexican chow in family owned places at least twice / week). Totally unexpected as I walk through the parking lot of the typical Roseville / Rocklin modern strip mall shopping area. I thought, "oh no not another corporate chain crap emporium". To be delightfully surprised by a welcoming staff, clean dining room, bountiful food, sumptuous salsa bar. All good. I just love Don Quixote's! Excellent tortas, tacos, burritos and pozole. Great salsa bar with many varieties of salsa and fixings. You walk up and order at the counter, there's plenty of indoor seating with booths and tables and a large patio. They've recently opened a bar and it offers a dine in option. The service is excellent. The margaritas and cocktails are really good and you can sit down and order from the menu. The creamy cheesy beans with the chips and salsa is so good! There were a few tables that were dirty and my friend had to clean a few off so that we could sit down. He had the chili rellano platter minus the sauce with rice and beans and it looked very good. He said he was very happy with it. He likes it without the sauce because he doesn't like his rellano soggy. My chicken burrito bowl was very filling. We have been wanting to come here for quite a while and finally did. It did not disappoint! We made the mistake of going in on the right side (Don Q's Cantina) but the owner herself served us and explained the differences. She told us to go over to the grill (left side) and she'd bring our food to us personally while we sat in there. It was such a great experience and I'm already thinking about going back! The portions are HUGE. The salsas and chips, and entree ingredients are so fresh and delicious and flavorful. The service is beyond anything I've experienced. The owner herself made my meal (and she did it over because she noticed the tortilla had a tear ), she brought us out a series of different other sauces/salsas to try, several baskets of chips, and she chatted. The bartender was friendly, kind, happy, and on top of things and never rushed us. It feels like all the staff are happy and enjoy working there.
