It's been quite a while since our last visit to Taqueria Roberto. It just seems crazy because we used to go all the time! I'm not sure how we somehow got diverted. The food, the burrito mojado with diabla salsa is still off the hook amazing! The chile relleno remains in my opinion the best available in Placer County! And the enchiladas are simply delicious. The place has changed a bit over the years, now having an ice cream bar in addition to the salsa and beverage bar that's been there as long as I can remember. The very tasteful decor is still in place creating a pleasant environment to dine in, and the dining room offers plenty of space for parties of all sizes. The staff people that I always recognized weren't there during my last visit, but the folks working seemed to do a good job. Definitely not our first time eating at Taqueria Roberto, but the my first time leaving a review. There's always plenty of parking and the restaurant has lots of indoor seating. They have a wide variety of foods, plates and specials to choose from. They also offer a chips and salsa bar and self serve fountain drinks. I ordered the Quesabirria Tacos Plate. It comes with 2 tacos, consome, rice and beans. The perfect amount of food! Delish! While dining in, we were checked on several times by different employees. Pretty standard food in a nice Mexican family owned restaurant. Wife had 2 different hard shell tacos. I had the chile relleno plate. Both passable, nothing to jump up & down and scream WOW! Salsa bar has 10 selections. I sampled 8. I really like the chipotle salsa. Great smokey flavor, intense rich pepper flavor and texture without much heat. I could down a bowl of it like soup. To order approach the cashier, tell 'em want you want, pay and take a table number marker. The food is delivered to table in about 99 seconds. !Muy rapido! Nice people. Always looking for the best Crispy tacos! We decided to try this restaurant. Large dining room, well lit and super clean. Order at the register. At 5:00 there were quite a few to go orders and more diners walking in. Friendly staff. Crispy tacos were ok, not my fave though. Ordered shredded chicken and a carnitas taco. Shells were crispy, but a little oily. Good size too. Plenty of meat in both. Hubby had the chili relleno plate, it was very large. He liked it enough. Prices are decent too. Give it a try! My husband and I love this place. It has the best tamales I've found in Northern California so far. Way better than Ikeda's tamales. I also really like the rice & beans and the chips. Sounds silly, but you can tell if a place is good by the chips and these are some of my favorites. Please do not change them! The service is great and my order is always correct. First time here. Staff was friendly. The grilled chicken chimichanga was big and fried to a beautiful golden brown. It was more refried bean-heavy than I was expecting - I think I would have preferred less beans and more meat. Also the grilled chicken was fine, but I would probably try a different meat next time. Al though most of the times I've came with family we have gotten ok service Yesterday was completely different. We were brushed off by employees and th girls seemed to be giggling if at us I'm not sure but it was an uncomfortable space for us. We had a very good experience here. The food was amazing, prices were decent, the staff seemed friendly, the place was clean, chip bar was fully stocked, and the food quality was above average. The inside was decorated nicely and was a nice environment to eat in. I felt the food portions were very generous for the Chile Relleno and the Flan. The meat portions were also bountiful for the taco salad and taco. However, the cheese portion seemed a little low on the taco salad. Things I didn't prefer: the pico de gallo had a higher than usual amount of green parts of tomatoes. Area of opportunity: The women's bathroom was out of paper towels. Something I really liked: the food flavors and the tasty flan. Also, the jalapeño creama is actually thick (some places water theirs down). I would recommend this place to others and will likely come again, relatively soon. read more

Ambiance: has a traditional Mexican restaurant vibe. Tables spaced a fair distance apart and large tables available for large parties. I love the vibrant atmosphere. One thing I will say is they have an impressive menu selection here. So many options there is something for almost anyone. Service: the employees have all been really friendly and helpful. They are open to offering recommendations if you need, but honestly: everything I have had is good. And wait times are reasonable. Food: I love the carnitas here. Pro tip: carnitas tacos (super or regular) are incredible. They season the carnitas to perfection here. Their fajitas were good and so fresh. I cannot say enough nice things about the food honestly. I got a great side dish with my fajitas and tortillas. So good! TLDR: I highly recommend. Great carnitas. Great menu options. Friendly employees. Five stars. read more

We have eaten here a few more times since last review. It's alright. Service has gotten friendlier, food is pretty good. Ambiance is good too. Sometimes it gets really loud in there when a huge group takes over the big tables. There's only a half wall separating the 2 areas. Specials are a good deal. We have been here a couple times and tried a few different things. Food is pretty dam good. One time we had the birria tacos and crunchy chicken tacos with beans & rice. Beans weren't very good, even when we went the second time. We've also had the pastor and asada. Service was quick! When they were busy, they still brought the food out fast. They also have ice cream and churros. We enjoyed the vibe of the place and will return. Time to try some more local spots! read more

Taqueria Roberto Mexican Food, located in Rocklin, CA lives up to their name, as they're noted for serving fine, authentic Mexican cuisine in western Placer County to locals and all those who appreciate the cuisine of Mexico. This fine restaurant opens every day of the week at 10:00 and serves all of your Mexican favorites, including menudo on weekends and a daily lunch special, that's served every day of the week. The restaurant operates on what I call the "taqueria format." The menu is posted above the order counter - it's also available online and in take-out pamphlets - and you make your selection from the video monitor. After making your selection, you pay for your order and in return, you'll receive a number. Then, you sit at any open table of your choice and when your order is ready, it will be brought to your table with a smile. There is a tip jar at the counter, but tips aren't expected, but they are certainly appreciated by the friendly and hard working staff. The large dining room is very open, clean and attractively laid out, and the large front windows let in lots of natural sunlight. Each wall had a couple video monitors featuring sports like soccer and college football. I went with "All Day Lunch Special" of three street tacos, refried beans and Mexican rice. The lunch included a soft drink, but I opted for a beer instead, and my friendly hostess gave me a generous discount on the bottle beer. Thanks! There are nearly a dozen meat fillings to choose from, and my choice today was birria. Each taco began with two small corn tortillas - each about the size of a DVD - toasted to perfection, complete with small grill marks. Toasting the tortilla brings out the flavor and helps the tortilla keep it's form, so your taco stays together as you enjoy it. Tender, juicy birria was piled high on the tortillas, with mildly spicy red salsa for an added zest. As a highlight, each taco was garnished with finely chopped cilantro and diced white onion. Taqueria Roberto didn't skimp on meat, as each taco contained a generous helping of the delicious, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth birria. As an added bonus, the birria had a slightly smoky taste to it - mesquite? - which added to the robust flavor and made the birria simply amazing! One bite into a taco, and I was rewarded with the amazing taste of the toasted corn tortillas, the delicious birria, along with the onion and cilantro. Muy sabroso! These tacos are called "Street Tacos" because they are similar to tacos sold by street vendors in every village, town and city in Mexico. During my many travels to Mexico, I've enjoyed countless "street tacos," and these delicious tacos taste exactly like tacos you'll find in Mexico. The Mexican rice was great, and made a solid, but unremarkable side dish. The refried beans were also great, but I couldn't taste the "nutty" flavor that lard adds to the tacos... I suppose management is nodding to the food police, or the tastes of local residents. Both the rice and beans made for a great side dish. The "All Day Lunch Special" is served every day of the week, and it's a good deal and truly a delicious meal. The fine chips and salsa from the bar made for a great appetizer and the Pacifico beer made for a great dessert. Truly a delicious meal and five-star dining. read more

Taqueria Roberto used to be the go-to Mexican place for my family but they have unfortunately reduced their portions and increased prices over the years. In addition, they now charge for pico de gallo from the salsa bar along with charging for any fountain drinks that are wasted. Tried this place for lunch, for the price was disappointed! We ordered taco birria and steak fajita. Like very other Mexican restaurant, they have chips and salsa bar. Chips were very salty, like too salty. My fajita was loaded with veggies, and very few meat....for the price, it's a bit steep. Service was okay, you order upfront and they'll bring your food to you. We came here for lunch today because I was craving Mexican food. We ate here a while ago and thought it was great food. I'm so happy they have not changed. Their Mexican food is very authentic. I ordered the pork tamales plate. I got two sort of flat tamales but the pork inside was very good and the pork to masa proportion was good. I always hesitate to order tamales because I've been burned with hardly any meat and mostly masa. My husband got the beef tostada. He really liked it because there was a good amount of "salad" on top of the ground beef. He was craving salad! Haha! This place is great except the cashier was not at all friendly or welcoming. She never cracked a smile nor did she speak in a pleasant manner. She was not rude but she certainly was not welcoming. The place is clean and played Mexican music which I enjoyed. read more
