This spot is down the road from my internship. I have had numerous people suggest this place to me because of my love for Mexican food and I was not disappointed. I had a little trouble finding it because it is somewhat hidden off of route 112. It is in a little parking lot with a strip of stores. I ordered a steak taco which came on a corn tortilla with onions and cilantro. The steak was cooked perfect, nice and crispy. The taco was delicious. I also ordered the chicken torta ( I was starving ) and that was incredible. It had sour cream guacamole lettuce tomatoes and chicken. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The food here is delicious. The shopping center it's located in is a bit run down, but it actually adds to the appeal of this restaurant. The vibe reminds me of the Mexican food places in San Diego, CA and I like that they play mariachi music. Whoever owns this place knows what they're doing, and does it well. I can't believe I forgot about this hidden gem. I used to come here a lot years ago and then somehow forgot about it for so long. I was so excited to see it on DoorDash during all of this quarantine madness. I actually never had the shrimp tacos and based on all of the rave reviews, I decided to try them. Many refer to them as "the best shrimp tacos ever" . I also ordered a quesadilla and chips with salsa. All the food was delicious, fresh and hot upon arrival. The tacos were great but definitely not the best I've EVER had. But you can't beat this place for the price point. It's authentic Mexican food and really affordable. On my never-ending mission to find a good taqueria, or taqueria-like place, (after having experienced a Houston taqueria) I went to Yelp and all signs pointed to Mexican Grill 2000. So I took my best friend and off we went! We arrived just 30 minutes prior to closing time. We ordered a quesadilla, chicken cemita, fish taco, steak taco, and chips y salsa which came free with our order. The tacos barely fit into the palm of our hands they were so SMALL. The tacos should not have cost more than $1.50 for their size. The cemita & the quesadilla were ok too but nothing to rave about. Would I come again? Maybe. I have been here a few times and got the enchiladas and fish tacos. Not as authentic as I would have hoped. I have friends like enjoy this place but to me, the enchiladas sauce tasted reminiscent of chef boyardee. Vegetables were unevenly chopped and there were large pieces of onions in the pico which was made with canned tomatoes. Freshness and attention to detail is not a strength to this place. read more

This is the second time I've been here, and you'll be pretty hard pressed to find any more authentic Mexican food on this part of Long Island than you can get at this spot. I had Fish Tacos and a Shrimp Burrito, very good, tasted super fresh, the tacos were loaded to the brim, they did not skimp on the fish at all. The Burrito was large and had plenty of big beautiful shrimp in it. The burrito looks smaller in the picture than it actually was because i had eaten most of it lol. Came in today during my lunch hour for the first time and I was told by a friend to give this place a try. So I was coming from Bellport in this nasty weather, at first I was a little lost because it was kinda on the side of the main building but once I got in the door all you see is a little hole in a wall restaurant with a ton of customers. Since I was in a rush I didn't pay attention to the salsa bar, which I will be coming back for! I was picking up my order which I called ahead of time for and it was hot and ready for me. I will definitely recommend the Burrito Gigante, because it's truly humongous! I'm a big eater but i almost didn't finish it (I conquered) haha! So if you're going here to dine in prepare to sit at a very small table for two and the view is of a concrete wall It doesn't matter though because this is the best Mexican food in the island ! It's delicious ! The nachos are out of this world and they're very good about substitutes and changing what's in their burritos . I honestly was a bit sketched out when I first walked into Mexican2000. But when you walk in, it gives that typical Mexican feel pretty clean for what it is. Seems like the customers that come are repeat customers because they are just chit chatting with some of the cooks, so that's a good sign! I grabbed take out. Went home with it. Mostly everything was delicious. Split a Shrimp burrito with my brother, it was on par but I'd say the Fish taco was my favorite. The sauce they use is tasteful! Not that there is anything wrong with South or Central American food it's absolutely delicious however there is a distinct difference between that and Mexican food. Great spot! What a gem !! this place is so authentic. There are a ton of "Mexican" restaurants but none of them are as real as this place. My favorite has to be the fish tacos. They are insanely good. I always pair them with an orange Jarito. There nachos are delicious as well and definitely meant to share. Location is in a little shopping center so parking is never really a problem. This is the PERFECT little hole in the wall. We never would have found it, if not for Yelp, so THANK YOU Yelp! I am going to start with the staff; what lovely employees, polite, friendly, attentive, welcoming, and full of smiles. Now for the food . . . We ordered three tacos; fish, shrimp, and steak, a chicken Mexican Grill burrito, and an order of nachos, to dine in. We were here around 8pm on a Saturday night and it was busy, but not overwhelming. From the time we ordered our food until it was placed in front of us, I'd say it was about 5/10 minutes. Shortly after we were seated, we were presented with a basket of chips and salsa. There was also a salsa bar where we could sample additional salsa flavors, which we did. That was fun and different. In hindsight, we shouldn't have ordered nachos too. It was somewhat redundant. But live and learn, the nachos were a last minute add on because they have a $20 MINIMUM FOR CREDIT CARDS and we didn't have cash. We enjoyed all of our food. I liked that the tacos were a la carte, so you could mix/match. I thought they were all equally delicious. My fiancé felt the fish taco was the stand out. I was tempted to try the tongue, but I wasn't feeling particularly daring, maybe next time? The burrito was the stand out for me. We shared all of our food but I kind of hogged the burrito lol. Before we left, we also purchased 2 pieces of flan to go. What a nice treat later on that evening. The consistency and flavor were wonderful. We liked the low key feel of this place. I love shrimp. Everywhere I go I'm looking for the shrimp options if they're even available. So I was really ecstatic to have their shrimp burrito. Definitely not a let down. The place itself isn't some super luxurious place and I enjoy that. I like the feeling it has of something small and a little more personable. It's a hole in the wall for sure so if you're not into that kind of vibe then it's not for you. I however really enjoyed it. The salsa is incredible and enhanced the already awesome tasting tacos. Four cups were plenty for me so I wasn't turned off by the sign what so ever. I recommend to those who enjoy authentic food and food joints. read more
