This place does not do well with large parties. We sat at our table for two hours when we finally decided to leave, stomachs still empty. And the staff....they didn't acknowledge us, apologize for the delay, or try at all to make us feel at ease for waiting so long. We had to ask then to bring us drinks, and they never brought us silverware (not that we needed it because we never got our food)! I would not recommend this place for big groups. read more

The food was very good. The service was pretty good. My only knock was that they don't provide refills on fountain drinks. That's a bit of a downer. But, one fountain drink was $1.49, so I guess that's not too bad. In any case, if I'm nearby, I would definitely return. read more

This place is good. The restaurant is kind of a strange layout and they're definitely working with what they have. The food is Great. I was in there after a cold fishing outing in Jan (2011) and it hit the spot. Definitely some home-style cooking and the guys working there were very nice. It's good to see a few restaurants hanging on out there in Poolesville, MD. We'd resigned ourselves to eating Fast Food on the ride home but saw this place and went for it. I'd been here before for dinner, and the food was good, though probably not quite worth the price. My wife and I stopped in the other day for lunch, and we just weren't feeling it. It didn't start well with the greeting, I suppose, which was a bit slow and not very welcoming, the server looking more rushed or pained than anything else. There's no lunch menu. There might have been at one time, but I think they scratched it out with white-out, which was crumbling down the inside of the menu. The table they directed us to wasn't exactly dirty, but we did have to flip one of the covers and brush several crumbs off the rest of the table. Wish I could give two ratings...one for food and one for service. The food was very good, did not taste like it came out of a can. However, the service was less than desirable. Only one waiter. When we entered there were two other tables filled. Two others came in AFTER we did and were served their meals BEFORE we were served. how hard is it to do tacos and enchiladas? One of the tables served first had 4 people. It took us forever to get chips and we had to ask for our silverware. Someone should tell them to just put the silverware on the tables, as they are wrapped in napkins, anyway. This place is great! I moved to Poolesville almost one year ago and just tried this place this evening. I eat "authentic" Mexican, Salvadorean, Peruvian, and Dominican food several times a week thanks to my great coworkers. I was afraid to try Mexican Grill because I was sure I would be disappointed. The food was authentic and fabulous. The soft tacos were some of the best I've had. (Ask them to add avocado slices.) My mother got talapia and shrimp and said it is the best she has ever tasted. Don't expect soggy, generic food drowned in sauce. The food is fresh and the flavor comes from the actual ingredients, not a bunch of salty sauce and gloppy cheese. Try it! read more

Yummy food! Yes they get really busy but the food is excellent & worth the wait !!! Every time I've gone I've been served promptly & the waitress is always friendly, they are a family owned restaurant still learning how to manage staff and customers so give them a break, Jessica the manager has definitely helped the atmosphere and maintained the staff in order, this place has definitely upped their service since they first opened. We got the fajitas for 2 for $30 and it was absolutely delicious!! Definitely enough food for the both of us, well priced, and cooked to perfection. We also got chips and queso which were so delicious for an extra $4. The service was a little slow and but that's alright they were pretty busy tonight. Hopefully they start serving alcohol soon. This place is in that category of "restaurants I really WANT to like", but just can't quite say they've made it past "average". The thing is, some people absolutely love the food here -- so I think you really need to try it for yourself. Personally, I'm not much of a pork eater, so I never ordered the pork tacos (which I've heard several very good things about). I've had the chicken quesadilla, which was good enough, until I found a small bone fragment in the chicken. Another time, I tried a chicken enchilada, and darned if I didn't get a piece or two of bone in the meat with it too! The chips and salsa here are above average, at least. But like another reviewer commented, the place just doesn't make a strong effort to win you over when you come in. It's often empty except for one person working in the kitchen area, and you're not always acknowledged for a few minutes after you walk in the door. There's not much ambiance here either. Pretty much just basic wood tables and chairs and a small television on a shelf, high up in a corner. I noticed they own a food truck, so I suspect they do the majority of their business out of the truck in other locations? It's also worth noting that these guys do not have a liquor license, so no margaritas here. Not a deal-breaker for me, by any means. (Poolesville already has several places you can drink, plus a couple of stores selling alcohol.) But I think it's worth mentioning, as so many people like to order one with a Mexican dinner. Bottom line? It's a net positive for Poolesville to have this restaurant around. Without it, there'd be nobody representing ethnic foods other than Chinese/Japanese. But I've found better Mexican food for less money in some of the strip mall locations in Germantown or Gaithersburg, MD. read more

Took my daughter in law to Poolesvilles Mexican Grill for the first time Saturday. Ordered carry out as we had projects on hold at home. Have to say the food was amazing, and cooked while we waited to perfection. I cant get enough of you guacamole...never change that recipe, it was delicious! Ordered 2 steak burritos as well, and plantains. Burritos which are huge, and stuffed with fresh ingredients, put other simular restaurants to shame. Had my second takeout meal from here last week. The first time I ordered tacos. They were good, but I have very unsophisticated taste and missed the Taco Bell "supreme" treatments (cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream). My family has been living in Poolesville for 10 years and we never came to this place. On Friday we finally decided to take a chance and order take out. When we got there nobody greeted us and we awkwardly walked to the register/hostess stand (idk?). Once there we asked a woman with a bun if we could place an order. She told us she couldn't at the moment because she had to close the two tabs from the bar (ok?) A man taking margaritas to a table told me to move very rudely. Another customer walked in and asked 3 times if someone would seat her and the man told her to sit wherever. Then we asked the same man if we could order take out, this time he responded by saying that he couldn't help us at the time because he was "too busy". TERRIBLE SERVICE! The staff looked like chickens with their heads cut off and people at the tables looked frustrated. I will stick to my 25 minute drive to GUAPOS at the rio instead!! read more

The food was mostly good, but the place needs help. It felt like restaurant impossible from the moment we were seated. Very disorganized wait staff--nobody introduced themselves, drinks came AFTER the food, took 40 minutes to get our check. Who knows how long we would've waited if he hadn't gotten up and gone to the register to make them ring us up. Skip it if you are in a hurry. To be clear, when we arrived and when we left, there were several open tables--there was maybe 20 minutes during the meal when all tables were full, and our negative experiences happened outside of that window of time. read more

Well, it would be good if I could give the Mexican Grill 2 1/2 stars because my experience there was about average, but with super slow service. The food was good, but the service was really bad. The restaurant had one other customer, and I only saw one employee. He was slow to greet us, slow to take our order, and our food took 45 minutes to arrive at the table. That's just way too long to wait! I'll probably go there again as there aren't many restaurants in Poolesville at all, but I now know to pay really close attention to the time and to get my order in immediately! read more

Food is always great. Prices are very fair. Wait staff is not always consistently good. If there are only two tables of people dining in the restaurant, the server should be better at refilling drinks, asking what we may need, and bringing take out containers and our bill in a reasonable amount of time. If I have to keep waving her over that's just not good service. Half the time this is my experience. The other half things are fine. As I said, just not consistent. read more

We've been here twice and both times my husband and I were pleased with our meals. Orders were prepared properly and quickly, and were very tasty - full of flavor! On both occasions there was only one server but even with multiple tables/guests she attended to us promptly and courteously. My one complaint is both times there were issues with fruit flies at our table which were annoying, but other than that the establishment seemed clean. We will go back again. read more

Tried this place for the first time for lunch today, on a Friday. Nothing fancy, but clean, and the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the burrito platter and asked if they had shredded beef as an option rather than their steak burrito. The server suggested barbacoa instead, which was not listed as an option, and I tried it. It was very good. The portions were fine for the surprisingly modest price of $8.99 for the platter. The rice was a bit undercooked, but not a big deal. I definitely will try them again when in Poolesville and in the mood for Tex-Mex. read more

Great, authentic Mexican food. This is a place for folks who really appreciate real Mexican food made with fresh ingredients. The restaurant is nice but not fancy, the menu is simple, and the food is amazing. Tacos, burritos, and nachos are the best. Meats are tender and well seasoned.
