We returned to Mexican Inn Cafe, for our second visit. I can say that things were better than the first time. For the positive points, the fajitas were better seasoned and the portion of each meat was better. The sour cream sauce on my wife's enchilada was flavorful and she enjoyed it. Although service was not an issue on our first go, I'd like to point out that Dillon, our server for round 2, was a peach! Normally, my wife and I prefer to joke and banter with the staff, so it's nice when they play along. I also enjoyed the "hot" salsa. Unfortunately, there are a couple of areas where Mexican Inn is still struggling. The guacamole needs some work. It is said to be made fresh, with pico, but I didn't see any. Truth be told, the guacamole seemed to be little more than smashed avocado with diced tomatoes on top. And then, there are the flour tortillas... oblong, unevenly rolled, and not fit for fajitas. Now, this was every single tortilla. Dillon offered to bring out some replacement tortillas, but the replacements were just as awkward, although one did resemble a skull, so I suppose a discussion could be had that it was kind of cool. read more

It's not that busy for a Friday night so we are just waiting and finally we ask about our table as they have been seating folks for quite some time we have 6 in our party they said it would be right away this is 25 minutes into our wait we are like can't you put tables together cause they kept seating folks as soon as they walked in! The finally put tables together and after waiting a full hour the finally seated us but my Don had to leave because of the hour delay and did not get to have dinner with the family! Food is good...But they need to work on 2 things: 1) There's a greasy smell in the restaurant...No good. 2) The service could be a lot better, the employees are good, but it seems like either the management or their procedures are not up to the challenge of keeping the customers happy with a "faster" service. First time in. The chips were tasty. My hubby really liked the frito style one. His beef fajita was very tender and tasty. The hot sauce was much more flavorful than the mild. Do not go to Mexican Inn. We called yesterday to ask if they could accommodate a party of 10 with no one sitting on the ends. They assured us they could sit us at a round table for 10 but they could not reserve the table. We agreed to meet when they opened at 4p.m. to beat the crowd. When we arrived today, I was the 2nd party through the door. The doors were still locked at 4:05 p.m. A gentleman and his wife ahead of me had to knock on the door. I explained to the hostess we called yesterday for a party of 10. They started setting up the table. When they were done it was only a table for 8 with 2 chairs on the ends. I told the hostess this will not work, to please add another table because we were all adults and did not want to sit on the ends. The hostess came back and said the manager refused. I then asked to speak to the manager and explained all the above. Only thing she could offer was an apology for lying about the table for 10. It only sits a party of 9, and she could not take a table away from another server. I asked her if she was willing to lose the business, and she shrugs her shoulders and said she couldn't accommodate our desires. So guess who could???? I stopped in for a quick bite and decided to sit at the bar since I was dining solo. I was greeted by a friendly hostess and shown to my seat in the bar area. The restaurant was immaculate and nicer than any other mexican inn I've visited. Samantha, the bartender greeted me and took my order in between serving other guests. She was hustling most of the time I was there. She was serving other bar guests and taking to go orders. Another female employee came over several times to ask how she could help Samantha. I believe her name was Evelyn. She was helping take drinks to guests and did it without being asked. The manager, Angel checked on me 2-3 times and even asked me if I had tried one of the new entrees. I complimented his staff and the quality of the food. We chatted briefly about catering some events for my office and he thanked me for coming in. This place should be the model for casual dining. read more

Excited to stop by again but.....it just wasn't that good. Started with the white queso and got served the regular queso.. waited 30 more minutes to get the right queso. Fajitas came out and they were ok but super small portion. Fajita nachos were lukewarm at best. The Sonora was pretty good. The Chile Relleno was hot and tasty but enchiladas were pretty greasy and warm not hot. Really disappointed that we had a so so 60+ dollar meal and it wasn't that good. We received the incorrect order and informed our server. It was taken back and our food took an additional 35 minutes to come out. Our server stated someone took our food. When we did get our food, it was cold and one plate was still incorrect but we kept it since we'd already been waiting. Things happen, but we expected at least an apology or visit from the manager. We understand it's Saturday night and everyone is trying to go out for dinner/ after waiting we were told our table was ready/ so I went to the counter and was told in fact it would be another 10 minutes. Had a great lunch here on a recent Saturday afternoon. I'd been to the location in Bedford but never the Mansfield store and now I'm sorry I've missed out for so long. I don't think this restaurant is any way tries to be "authentic" but exists rather to fill a popular demand for Tex Mex. My wife had the Chicken Fajitas and I simply ordered the Jalapeno Poppers. Now, there's not much to say about the Fajitas unless you've been living under a rock for the last 40 years but the poppers were simply sublime and I'm about to tell you why..... Take a pepper and slice it in half long-wise. Now, scoop out the seeds and "ribs" thus rendering said pepper palatable for most (read: NOT HOT). Now, mince up some smoked chicken, roasted red pepper and cream cheese so you get a mixture that's moist enough to clump but not at all pasty. Layer that goodness into your pepper-shell, lightly batter that badboy and deep-fry it. What you get is a flavorful little nugget of peppery smokey goodness that was only enhanced (by me) via dipping in the queso-blanco we'd ordered for our chips. I was half-expecting to get the same old frozen, boring popper that most places sell so this was a welcomed surprise. Service was great and the restaurant looked/smelled clean. No complaints. I have been to this location many times. I am giving them 2 stars because they are consistently mediocre and that deserves some kind of acknowledgment. Most people like their chips a lot. I'm not a huge fan but I don't think they are horrible. Their salsa seems house made but is not memorable. The service always stinks. I have ordered the Chicken Fajita Burrito a few times. It's pretty okay but it's HUGE and I would not advice you to try to eat the whole thing. It also comes with very large beans and rice sides so beware. I don't like the chili con carne or whatever the sauce is in the middle but I always forget to ask it be cut. They do get a nod for great fresh tortillas. The sauce was silky smooth and very tasty. The white corn tortillas were fresh and had a lovely texture and mouth feel! The chicken however tasted moist and was supple to my tastebuds! I just wish that it was white meat instead of dark thigh meat. The beans were ok but for me they could have used a bit more bacon fat and or salt. The rice was just rice with some seasoning (nothing special or outstanding). I did notice that the prices on the internet website were incorrect. The prices have gone up by a couple of dollars. For those who believe in truth in advertising! Which I do whole heartedly! They have been in business since 1930's so they must be doing something right! I used to like Mexican Inn Cafe before Covid. We went there last night as I was craving delicious flautas. Well, the flautas were burned. They were so hard I could barely bite into them. The filling was dry. The tortilla looked and tasted burned. The two cheese enchiladas that came with the meal were bland and dry. Just had these guys last night, WONDERFUL food! I had brisket enchiladas that were out of sight! Super savory, and the cheese on top perfectly complimented the meat. Two types of salsa are served with standard tortilla chips and "Mexican" tortilla chips. The second variety are thicker and look like Fritos. The hot salsa will get you in trouble. We get there and waited about 15-20min, we were originally only ones waiting - then more people showed up. several groups with same number of people were seated before us 2 times so I spoke up and they said oh yes 5 more min you're next. We sit down and the chips are different, ok no big deal. My daughter unfolds her cloth napkin to find some white crusty sauce on inside I figured was just her napkin we will ask for another, mine also had dried beans and crusty sauce like wrapped in my silverware- (guessing a batch wasn't washed and we happened to get it) I ignored it. My husband ordered cafe inn dinner was nice, kids got kids meals and I got a burrito which isn't a burrito at all, it's basically an over stuffed enchilada. We had to keep trying to watch and flag down our waitress for drink refills and they never offered any more chips which was the highlight of my trips there. Little ones highchair buckle was broken and the straps were crusty& sticky caked with food and something else goopy. I asked for another seat but the lady never brought one. I'm guessing change of management. The ladies up front were nice as they open the door as you leave and seem to help set tables to keep it going but they're way understaffed maybe because was a weekend?
