I've been 2 this reopened location several times this year. I wrote a bad review on google. My earlier visits deserved bad reviews. The last 2 visits were better. My waitress actually told me my plates were hot! No other server ever did that but her. Yes, oven mitts were used 2 serve but we need verbal informing, still. I burnt myself at the bar when i ordered my 1st entree! Don't go 2 the bar. Service is superior in the dining area. The hostesses r always friendly. The remodel on this location is wonderful! I honestly cannot figure out why this place ever close to begin with. The food was great, the drinks were great, and it was very laid-back atmosphere. Since it's reopened, the one thing I can say about it is they stepped up their game with the ambience! Completely re-designed the interior, and it looks awesome. It is important to know that this restraunt is not open for lunch. When they reopened, I assumed they would be keeping their usual hours, and went for lunch. They were closed. Then, after checking their website, I went again for lunch. Closed again. They don't open until 4-5pm, so don't drive all the way over there for lunch. read more

I haven't been to this location in many few years but wanted some Mexican food. I was surprised when we walked in that it had been remodeled. The inside doesn't match the outside at all and if felt like a steakhouse, not a Mexican restaurant. I was a bit put off upon entering when the hostess told us to wait as she needed to see if the waitress was ready. Why wouldn't the waitress be ready? Anyway, we were seated and a server brought over chips and salsa quickly. Our waitress came by and took our drink order. She was very pleasant. I ordered the burrito bowl and my brother ordered a lunch special. I felt the prices were high for what we got. Also, the burrito bowl was just ok. I ordered it with brisket and the meat was extremely chewy and tough. I also ordered the iced tea and when the bill came I was surprised it was over $3.00. Needless to say, I won't be back. Terrible Hostess Service. Was quoted 10-15 min for a table of 3. After waiting 30 minutes, and seeing multiple tables open up, I asked how much longer it would be. The hostess said they weren't seating anyone right now due to the kitchen being backed up. Terrible communication, very easily could have told the people waiting that it would be longer than they quoted. We had our toddler with us and would not have stayed waiting if we had known it was going to be a longer wait. Who knows how much longer we would have continued waiting if we hadn't asked. read more

My wife and daughter and son-in-law-in-waiting went down to this location because she now lives in Austin and misses #5 on the menu, Arroz con Pollo (Chicken and Rice) "An old Mexican Inn favorite topped with chile con queso and served with a bean chalupa topped with guacamole". It's what she always likes there it was its usual satisfying meal. What was TOTALLY UNACCEPTIBLE was the horribly overcooked and underinflated things they call chips here. Not puffed and light as in the past, but flat, thick, and over-cooked. Yuck, puck and wholely inedible. [I was told that they have been having trouble with the chips here for a while and were offered bagged chips as a substitute] Mr. Carroll, I truly have been a faithful fan of your many restaurants in the past, but I am drawing the line here. (Fantastic because we were there to watch the Superbowl) Immediately we were welcomed by our friendly waitress with some unique and delicious fresh (frito-like) chips and salsa (Med.-Hot a red pureed version) accompanied by handmade corn tortillas with butter cube. The chili rellenos where the best I've ever tasted! (5*'s), perfect crunchy homemade batter on the outside and gooey melting mexican cheese on the inside. The fajita trio which consisted of chicken, steak (was my husbands favorite) and shrimp (was my favorite) on top of grilled onions and peppers served on a sizzling cast iron platter perfect for sharing. Both entrees were accompanied with tasty sides we chose the black beans and our daughter picked the house churro beans with bacon (gave them a delicious smokey flavor) also included was the Mexican style rice. Told us to just order another meal and pay the delivery fees and tip all over again. First the rating is a reflection of the food and not the service which was great. Let's start with the texmex staple: Salsa, what they are serving is tomato sauce, if someone had brought out noodles I would have poured it on top. We ordered the trio sampler which turned out to be the best thing about dinner. Don't change it. Now for dinner, I was in a bland mood for texmex and I got bland food, guess I should be happy they served what I was in the mood for. I generally don't write reviews but after almost foregoing an evening of take out from Mexican Inn because of the other reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed myself so I had to stop and take the time. And note, I said "TAKE OUT" and it was STILL a-fab-mazing! First I must say, the chips are like no other. It must be either love or hate 'em. I LOVED THEM! From what I'm told, chips at other mexican restaurants are tortillas generally baked and then fried. Mexican Inn's are flat out F-R-I-E-D corn meal and they are Y-U-M-M-Y!!!! The chips we got, don't forget TAKE OUT so they sat in the car for 15 mins, were puffy-melt-in-your-mouth-pillows of happiness. Yes, they're greasy, but come on folks, are you really going out to a mexican restaurant for the health of it??? We mixed the chips with their guac - again, fabulous. Perfect sized chunks, fresh tomatoes, flavorfull, couldn't be better! After tons of chips I switched to just globbing the guac on the corn tortillas they provide at no charge, even with TAKE OUT, and couldn't have been happier. We ordered the Mexican Cafe Dinner which has one beef enchilada, one chicken sour cream enchilda, one tamale and one cheese enchilada so I give you a review on pretty much any type of enchilada any mexican restaurant could possibly serve. It also came with rice and beans. They were all GREAT! I'm not a big fan of cheese enchiladas but it was as good as they could get it. Rice was perfect. It wasn't over or under-cooked or overpowering in any way. Mixed it with the beans and covered all of that with their shredded cheese and was a happy camper. The girl taking the order over the phone was smart and on the ball and everything was only $34 - two huge meals, extra cheese, a pint of guac, 2 bags of chips and salsa, I ask, HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG??? Needless to say I would definitely refer this restaurant. I'm glad I didn't look this place up on Yelp before I decided to stop by. In fact, I probably wouldn't have even tried this place if I would have seen the reviews on Yelp beforehand. Luckily, it was a spur of the moment decision. We were out shopping in Mansfield, saw this place and decided to give it a try. The service was excellent. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted by smiling faces. Their chips are quite unique, they are shaped like Fritos and each person at the table gets their own bowl. I will admit to judging the poor chips by their appearance, "What the heck are these wimpy looking things?" I thought. However, I then remembered that I look extremely wimpy, as well. So, I decided to look past their appearance and give them a try, and much to my surprise they were quite tasty. The salsa was a bit bland, it lacked any real heat, but that is expected with most Mexican restaurants around here. It's not the salsa is bad, it's just not what real salsa is supposed to taste like. Anyway, let's get to the main course. I ordered the chicken fajita salad, which comes with jalapeno ranch dressing, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, greens, pico de gallo and sizzling fajitas with onions. The fajitas come on the side, and they're actual fajitas. It's not a pathetic chicken breast they try to pass off as their fajitas, it's an actual skillet of fajitas and onions. The fajitas and onions were packed with flavor. The onions had a nice caramelization to them. The chicken was fork tender and absolutely delicious. I will admit that the actual salad was a bit disappointing. The menu promised "a bed of greens" but it was more like a bed of iceberg lettuce accompanied by tiny throw pillows of greens. I still enjoyed the salad overall, it was just a little disappointing seeing so much iceberg lettuce. All in all? I think it's one of the best Mexican food restaurants in this part of town. If you ever find yourself in Mansfield, give this place a try. I know I will definitely be going back. I've got my eye on their brisket enchiladas. read more

Pros: Great TexMex food! My husband is a VERY picky eater and loved almost everything he ordered (he forgot to tell them no rice and he doesn't like rice but it was his own fault!). Good Price! We got out of there paying just over $30 for two meals, two drinks and a queso. Pre-dinner tortillas! They serve chips, salsa, AND corn tortillas and some butter on the side! The tortillas were great! Good Clean Restroom! This is great for travelers. Nice semi-quiet place - There was music but it wasn't so loud we couldn't hear each other. Cons: A bit out of the way - There is probably one closer to where we were traveling so this is probably just our fault. :D Only semi-decent service - Not sure if our waiter had tables to deal with elsewhere or not but a few times it took a while for refills. Pre-dinner chips - I don't care for them... instead of normal tortilla chips that most Mexican places have, they have these puffed up Frito looking things. They tasted okay just wasn't to my liking. We ate there a few weeks ago and the food was a 6-7 out of 10. Chips...not sure if I like them or not. They are really greasy though. Many people I spoke to don't care for this place but I had a fairly good experience. Value was good, portion was also good. Customer service was exceptional. Bathroom was clean - something you don't see in many Mexican places. Visited the restroom to wash my hands as I was concerned with the grease only hands (chips) and attempting to drive my car. Mexican Inn has apparently changed their recipes recently. No matter what I order, it tastes like they have added an excessive amount of cumin to it. While I realize that cumin is an integral component of pretty much every recipe on a Mexican food menu, lately that is the only ingredient that I taste in their food. And I don't care for it - at all. The chips, tortillas and hot sauce still score a A, but the rest of the food - not so much. read more

Outstanding dining experience. Service was above average, especially for a lunch meal, the margaritas were on point, awesome chips and salsa/guac, and the food was very good. Do not have any complaints at all, and for lunch with 2 margaritas, the meal was under $35. Cannot complain about that at all. read more

The food at this restaurant is not good to say the least. Pass this place up if you are in the area as there is nothing authentic about it. I stopped in here for a delicious lunch after a weekend of bbq. I was craving something different but yuck. They bring you frito chips out with your salsa. The portions are small, the guacamole looks soupy, the pico was all dried out. To eat the sour cream you literally had to break the barrier on top of it. I ordered the shrimp and chicken fajitas. Nope never again. I will NEVER be back and I will never tell my friends to stop in. We got fajitas and some appetizers delivered via door dash last night. We are only 1.4 miles from the restaurant but the fajitas were cold, not room temp but cold. Queso was warm, but I assume they keep queso on simmer. Maybe the fajita dishes are prepacked and refrigerated until they get an order? Food was good. It's just not the same Mexican Inn as before the pandemic. It's getting hard to find delivery food these days that packs a wow factor. read more

The food here is nothing to write home about. The service was good but there was no soap in bathroom which means: 1. Nobody was checking 2. All the staff had either been going to the bathroom and not washing their hands or not using soap. There was nothing left in the disperser so it had been out for a while. The food itself is bland and the salsa could pass for an Italian ragu. They seem to cater to an unsophisticated palette and a lean pocket book with large portions and cheap prices. Haven't been here in a while. Usually like the lunch specials...especially Arroz con Pollo. The Chicken Burrito and the Brisket Tacos are also good. Today I had Chicken Quesadillas, and they were very good. Inside was chicken, cheese, poblano peppers, and grilled onions. They came with pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and sliced jalapenos on the side. My server, Dani, did a good job. One problem was that as I bit into one of the appetizer chips, there was a black hair baked into the chip. So I was not pleased with that part of my meal. But as for the rest of the meal, I was pleased. They also provide free Wi-Fi, so I was able to surf the Internet while waiting for my meal, without using my data to do so. Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight, the "chips" are gross and greasy, the salsa was too mild and the house margarita was very weak..... So I wasn't expecting much when the entree arrived, but man was I blown away!! The Tres Amigos enchiladas were really, really good, it usually comes with a bean chalupa, but I asked for a chicken one instead, sooo yummy!!! Hubbs got the brisket tacos that were very tasty. Went at the heart of dinner time on a Friday evening. After finding the wait at Texas Roadhouse next door to be one hour we landed here. Not too busy. Should have been a hint. Let me start with the positive. All of the employees encountered were aces from the hostess to the various servers that came to our table. Complimentary salsa and chips... I've seen the reviews on here in which the reviewers rave about the chips. They are too small for me and I prefer the regular tortilla chips over the house-made corn chips. The salsa is all finely blended tomatoes with no heat and they don't offer a spicier alternative. Even my white woman wife found it too mild. I ordered a margarita, because once again there was no decent beer offering, and it was quite enjoyable until I clumsily spilled a good portion of it all over the floor. The staff was quick to mop it up though. They offered Coca-Cola so my wife was happy with her beverage. I ordered the steak and chicken combo fajitas with refried beans and rice. Acceptable fare. My wife ordered Pablo's Platter which offered a taco al carbon and two enchiladas of your choice; rice and beans again. Good flavor and ample quantity for a meal. So, overall it wasn't a bad dinner, until the check came. Maybe I shouldn't have had the margarita but $55 for two people to have what we had seemed a bit steep. We will stay closer to home when the urge for Mexican style food strikes and go to El Arroyo. read more

Went with the family last night for a late dinner. Had a great time. It was pretty quiet around 830 when we got there which is nice. I had the saucy chicken fajita burrito for the first time, and omg it was so amazing. I could barely finish half of it. The house Margarita was great for a house drink. Not like most places that taste like straight sweet and sour. The service was pretty good for the most part. They do lose a star for my server setting my Margarita down directly in front of my 10 year old daughter. Other than that we had a great experience. read more

First of all, they do not have sopapillas and we asked them to add those to the menu. For this fact we took off one star. This place is excellent. The staff is very friendly and do a great job. The chips are different than expected but are perfect. The fresh hot corn tortillas with butter set a high bar. The food overall was delicious. Some people have rated this place low but our group of 8 disagree with their reviews. This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a great meal.
