On [April 26,2026], I observed highly unsanitary conditions within the restaurant premises. Specifically, I encountered cockroaches in the restroom facilities and also noted their presence on a sign located above the payment station. Upon bringing these significant hygiene concerns to the attention of the manager on duty, [JESSICA"], I was unfortunately met with an unhelpful and dismissive response. My request for a refund, in light of these discoveries, was denied. Subsequent to my meal, which cost $48, I began experiencing severe gastrointestinal distress, including vomiting and frequent urgent trips to the bathroom. These symptoms commenced this morning, and I strongly suspect they are a direct consequence of the food consumed at your restaurant. I find both the unhygienic conditions and the subsequent health complications, coupled with the manager's handling of the situation, to be entirely unacceptable. I kindly request a thorough investigation into these matters and a prompt resolution, including a full refund for my meal." We were in the mood for Mexican food, and there's no better place for Mexican food than Mexican Town....the neighborhood, not the restaurant of the same name. And, one good thing about going to Mexican Town (the neighborhood) is that, if one restaurant has a long wait, you can go to another one nearby that is also very good. This is how we ended up here. The atmosphere here is...well, you don't go here for the ambiance. It's a mostly open space with tables. I like the brick in certain sections, but the area is mostly utilitarian. As with other situations like this, it honestly makes zero difference to me. I'm not here to stare at the walls and look at the decorations. I'm here to eat. The eating starts early, because you get a bowl of the most awesome tortilla chips, with hot and mild salsa. These are crunchy, flawless, freshly made chips, and you will definitely want to buy some to take home with you. I got the Chilaquiles. I'm very happy to report that they have other Mexican dishes with eggs, too. The refried beans were smoky and delicious, unlike the tasteless mush you get it most places. The rice was a nice accompaniment. But, the eggs were overcooked. I still liked stuffing everything from the plate into a tortilla, and topping it with hot sauce, but it would have been better if the eggs have been better. We got fried ice cream, of course. They are different here than anywhere else I have seen before. Instead of bringing out a crunchy ball of fried goodness, they bring a ball of ice cream that they ignite. It took a long time to burn down, so we had to blow on it and roll it around a bit before we could eat it. It was delicious, but I would have liked a crunchy coating on it. The prices were reasonable, and the service was ridiculously fast. We got freshly prepared meals not long after placing the order. And, we got a gargantuan bag of those amazing chips to go. This use to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The mini Botano had cheap, nasty cheese and long gone are the olives. It gets a zero rating. I had the Mexican sandwich which was ok except for the "old rice" buried underneath. I personally asked the waiter if the rice was fresh? He assured me it was but it was clumpy and tasteless "just like last time". This dinner gets 1/2 star. The only saving grace was the excellent hot salsa and fresh corn chips with "stale" corn-chips on the bottom of basket. One star and after several years and last attempts we wont be back. read more

My family came in a large group of 12 on Sunday around 3 or 4pm (after St Patrick's parade). Part of our group was already upstairs at the bar drinking margaritas by the litre. The hostess, made a big deal about how we all had to be in front of her to get seated.. the others were upstairs drinking and we completely the entire party. It was annoying,, as they weren't even busy (nobody else was waiting for seats). We went up to the bar and asked the bartender if we could eat up there and he said it would be fine. We come here every year after the parade. The margaritas are usually better, in fact it seemed very weak, because we also got more liters at the table, and I didn't feel tipsy at all. My main issue was the food, the beans had absolutely no flavor! Even some salt would have helped, I've never experienced bad food here. We came on a school bus, we didn't even get to pick what we are, we told the waiters that my friend was allergic to tomatoes yet, there was tomatos in her taco anyway. When we asked for extra chips and salsa they gave us chips, and that was it. The only thing that was good was the chips and the burrito. The taco meat was burnt. The taco fell apart in my hands. Pre pandemic this place had the best seafood chimichanga! No more seafood, aside from $30 shrimp flaming fajitas. Cheese on anything is $2. The pandemic has not been good to this place. Prices are kind of steep now. Inflation is real. Food isn't bad, just quite bland. My dad ordered fried mushrooms & the dish was literally just mushrooms lightly fried. No seasoning on the thin batter or the mushrooms. Mom ordered a plate/appetizer of guacamole ($9.75) instead of a 2oz side. I had wanted a large botana but it couldn't be served w/o refried beans, so i settled for super nachos. Even the jalapeños on top were mild. We came for dinner tonight and were severely disappointed in all of the steak dishes. They only serve one kind of steak, they call it a marinated skirt steak, AKA roast beef. It was full on roast beef. This is also the mini portion of fajitas which was wwayyy larger than described. The veggies did not have enough time cook so they were basically raw. The carne asada was the same skirt steak just grilled to this dark dry roast beef. We spoke to the manager and she was not helpful at all. I've been coming here for over 25 years- great portions, great drink menu, and friendly service. The decorations and ambiance feels authentic. Any of these negative reviews are invalid. Anytime I've eaten here, or had a drink- It never disappoints. The margaritas are delicious, if you go anywhere else in "mexicantown" you'll be opening your wallet a little more for the margaritas; not here you certainly get the bang for your buck. Bummer as I love Dos Equis amber on draft with a lime... They do not make pico de gallo. Odd to me but whatever. Suggestions. Order the asada tacos "carbon" comes with all the fixings guacamole onions tomatoes. The flank asada steak is some of the best I have ever tasted. Shaved pieces piled high inside the tortilla shell. Im not one to write reviews but i feel it is necessary after eating here. My parents and I came after the place next door was closed and i could tell right off the bat it wasn't an authentic place based off the ambiance. If you want Americanized Mexican food then this is the place for you and there's nothing wrong with that! However, if you want authentic Mexican food in Detroit, this is not it. Only taco options were chicken, GROUND BEEF, and steak. My family is ethnically Mexican directly from Mexico and this was a huge disappointment. Service was not bad but my mom kept saying they were taking forever so. Located at the corner towards the end of restaurant row in Mexicantown. Cute entrance with memorabilia. We bought a dozen pork tomales to take home. It cost around ten bucks. I am not usually one to order this dish, but this version was good. The masa dough and meat ratio were excellent, and the texture was firm unlike many where it's rubbery. Found this gem during undergrad days. 2005-2009. Good memories here. Monday's were on par days - meaning $1 Canadian dollar = $1 USD. Even after 15 years, they still have this wicked deal. Although, I'm not too sure how waiters/waitresses feel about receiving tips in Canadian dollars. Fresh are 95% hot and fresh, I can only recall a handful of times where the chips were fried as a cluster and dripping in oil. Waiters and waitresses are 90% amazing, again, handful of times where they are inattentive. Onto food, portions are average. Only the fajitas are HEAPING. Beans and rice are average, nothing too crazy. But chimichangas are a delicious. It's always a struggle between the chimichangas, flautas, and enchiladas. read more

The past two times we had service issues and this last time service was fine but both my fiance and I have been on the toilet all day after eating here. I traveled here to check out some old school memories in the Mexican Town area. I decided to go here because I had not been here in some years. The inside looked the same. We were given some nachos with salsa and of course I asked for the salsa with a little kick. I ordered a liter of blue margaritas and the flaming fajita. You can get it with chicken, shrimp or beef. You can also get it with a meat mix. We opted for the chicken. The fajita arrived quickly. The waitress set it aflame. The signature chicken covered with cheese was great. It also came with flour tortillas to wrap It in. It had chucks of chicken, green peppers and onions covered in cheese. It also tasted as I remember. The one downside is the grease that is accumulated from the cheese. However I would recommend it. This meal will feed 2 or even 4 depending on your appetite. It is one of the best fajitas around. Being from a state who loves our Mexican food and where it's done well (Mississippi) we were exited to hear there was an area of Detroit called Mexican Town. While it was a Tuesday, we headed over to the area thinking we'd come upon packed parking lots (like our Mexican restaurants), have several to choose from and have a delicious meal. Not to much. The place was pretty much deserted. A lot of the restaurants and bakeries looked like they'd been closed for a while. The only place we saw cars was at Mexicantown Restaurant, so we took a chance. We walked into a authentic looking Mexican restaurant to be greeted semi-friendly. They were busy with takeout orders and I took that as a good sign. However, when we got into the dining room there was only one other table seated. Uh oh. Our young waiter was clearly working the room on his own and was very nice....and then it went downhill. We had to ask for chips and salsa. They were tasty but only one little bowl of salsa for the table to share. The queso dip came in this large bowl and was a gelatinous glob of yellow with specks of peppers and onions. We tried it to be nice but no. It was not good and the most unappetizing thing to try and eat. When our lunches arrived they were all at room temperature. The rice was not good. The beans just ok. And the meat inside our dishes was beyond dry. Mexican food is one of my favorites and I have to say that I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

What a major disappointment. Was a regular before covid so we came back. Food arrived and was ice cold. Waited for the waitress to return and told ger and she took the dishes. Been coming to this restaurant for 20 years and today was my last day. I will keep it short as it pains me to even dwell on the subject. My daughter and I are African American and she brought to my attention that African American patrons were seated at EVERY table in our section and all other ethnicities were seated on the opposite side of the wall. While paying our bill we mentioned this seating issue to the cashier and in this conversation she mentioned that there is a large party in our section and they are loud. WTF does this mean? So you sit people of color together because we can tolerate "loud" among our own people??!? My daughter and I agreed we will take our business elsewhere from now on which is sad become this restaurant is my favorite of all places in Southwest Detroit. There are other choices. Decided to head down town for Mexican food and casino on a Saturday night with some friends. We decided on Mexican Town restaurant once we got down town. The waitress we were given was not good. It took her 10 minutes to greet us and ask us for drink orders. It took another 10 minutes to bring us the drinks and chips and salsa. Normally I would think this is okay since it's a busy establishment on Saturday night but multiple other tables got seated with chips and salsa while we waited the 20 minutes. All that being said the food was absolutely amazing! The chips were extremely fresh and the salsa was a nice flavor. I ordered the chicken chimichangas with cheese on top and toppings on the side. The service and food quality has gone way down hill. Orders are incorrect and missing basic staples like an Avocados, and jalapeños. The hot and mild sauce has changed and is horrible. Our biggest complaint after being a Parton for over 20 years is the customer service and rude attitude of the lady at the front register. Make sure to double check your orders and receipts. This is my favorite restaurant in Mexican Town. Yes it's named after the actual town. The combination platters are the best route to go to try a little bit of authentic food that they offer. I personally prefer combination C, you get one of each taco, taquito, tostada, enchilada with rice and beans. the flaming fajitas topped with cheese is so big that three people can feast off of that. Service was outstanding from the minute we walked in we were greeted promptly and the server was exceptional. Every little request that we had, she was on top of it! One thing missing from the dessert menu is a fried ice cream topped with your choice of topping, you can always get the flan anywhere. Don't know why the Mexican restaurants I go to don't carry it, is it because it's pricey? Either way, it needs to be put on. If you haven't tried this place, I recommend it, my out of town guests love our Mexican Town compare to others in many states. read more

Nice spot in Mexican town! This place is huge, 2 levels and plenty of seating. Our server was awesome, friendly and so attentive. I LOVED the chips and salsa. That alone could've been my meal. Wow- pretty disappointed- but should of known better with Yelp rating. The good- the chips and salsa are amazing. However the portion size was pathetic at the size of an oversized shot glass.... for a table of 2! The chip we so hot, you could burn yourself. But they were great despite the danger... We were excited and optimistic for the remainder of the meal.... however... The not so good- the Queso with chorizo. It was a gummy and stretchy mess. Taste was ok, but not what we'd call typical queso dip. Our hopes were starting to get dashed.... The meh- the famous sizzling Trio fajitas. Portion size was eye popping- more than enough for two. Steak had a funny twang to it - and was more like stew meat, I didn't know they harvested shrimp THAT small, and the chicken was chicken. Mexican Town was once a fun, inexpensive local place to run into friends over margaritas just over the Ambassador Bridge. On Mondays, they run a Canadian money at par special and Windsorites among others tumble over the bridge en masse to indulge in Mexican food and margaritas. Tonight , after 42 years of frequenting this business, we had the worst experience ever and have come to the end of our patronage. We were told it would be a one hour wait and it was almost two. We arrived at 6:30, were seated just before 9, every table in the restaurant received their food before we did including a table of 7 whose whole tray of food was dropped on the floor and who were seated after us. The food was awful, cold, unseasoned, lacking toppings that should have been there like sour cream and salsa and cheese. When we said we were unhappy and would not be back, the cashier said "alright then". Never ever been treated so badly. Go to Mexican Village and visit Los Galanes instead. Youll have a much better time. Great service and food and nice ambience. Better restaurant. Better value. You don't need the discount at the expense of quality and respect. read more

Just ordered from here after leaving because of bad service (mostly communication) about 5 years ago. I ordered some food and was given one bag, however when I got to my car in xochomilco's restaurant where I found a spot, someone came out to hand it to me. I wanted to make sure this was someone from the restaurant, so I called and spoke to Mary who said she was a manager. I tried to verify this with her, however she couldn't understand what I was saying in English and kept mixing up my message. She claimed she saw a lady give it to me outside!!!! What???? A pure lie because she obviously didn't want to take responsibility for it for some reason. I kept asking for her manager since she couldn't understand, and she told me she is the manager and kept saying this as I kept requesting it slower...she didn't understand what I was saying because she kept saying she was the manager. She never did understand that I all I wanted to do was clarify my food came from them and it was safe to eat. The communication was so bad, she kept asking me what I got, and was telling me to check my food. I informed her I was driving, I can't check it and this is not an issue. I just wanted to know if you sent a guy out with it to get it to me, who met me at the Xochomilcos restaurant parking lot at my car. I could not communicate with her and asked to speak with someone that understood English. She informed me this was a Mexican Restaurant and Spanish is the main language and eventually hung up on me twice. It was a debacle that never needed to happen if I could of just had someone tell me it was brought out to me and not be so combative. I was leaving in a hurry and just thought i would call to verify. Big mistake. I guess you have to remember they will become combative (defensive)if they don't understand you, and try to make it sound like it's your fault. This place used to be my favorite for flaming cheese, beef fajitas and margaritas. Wow how things have change since the pandemic. The flaming cheese is much smaller and tastes completely different. No peppers in it and the chorizo is gone as well. Flavorless and bad consistency now. The fajita are much smaller and the price went up significantly. A large flaming cheese, steak fajita and a half litre of margaritas used to be $45 before covid now for less food and bad tasting at that is $70 read more
