This is the most authentic Mexican food you will find in New York and it's delicious. The nachos, enchiladas, tacos, sopes, and tortas are great. You have to walk to the back of the store to get to the "cafeteria". There are roughly two or three tables that seat a maximum of 6-8 people (i think that's why they opened the Mexico 2000 restaurant next door). It's a really chill vibe, but you are in the middle of the cashier and the kitchen so it will get loud. If you are looking for a different ambiance, check out the restaurant. Delivery is great as well. They don't always remember everything, but if you call them, they will bring whatever you need immediately. I love this place. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, and noticing that this place is not far from my place, we tried the enchiladas tonight. I had the suizas and my husband had the rojas. They were okay, but needed more sauce. I mean, they needed A LOT more sauce. There was hardly any sauce on them! It was hard to tell which was which. The flavor was okay as well, but I have had better. Might go back and try the tacos just to give it another chance. Do not ever order delivery from this place. They do not deliver food on time. Meal showed up almost an hour later than it was expected to. By then, it was too late to go or order from anywhere else because it was already prime dining time so most other places would be busy too. They didn't offer to anything extra or offer to refund us money or anything for their horrible mishap. I would definitely say do NOT order delivery from this restaurant. We went to both places, the grocery store and the restaurant. The grocery store was hands down better than the restaurant as far as service. The food was very good at both places. If it was up to me I'd go back to the grocery place, the waitress there was more attentive. I think she should train the ones at the restaurant. read more

The food here is amazing and the prices are great, especially considering its location in Williamsburg, which is now a major hotspot. If you're going here the margaritas are a must! The staff is really friendly and the manager will most likely pass by and make you feel at home. read more

Almost everything from Mexico 2000 is very tasty. I love the quesadillas. They have tacos for $2.50 and the scopes, tortas, and quesadillas are $4 if you don't feel like getting the combos. I had the flautas, enchiladas, and the chimichangas and it's about 7 dollars for the lunch/dinner combos. They come with tons of rice and beans and easily last two meals. read more

Absolutely the best chicken enchilada I have had in this city, possibly in this world. Order the enchiladas banderas. Red and green sauce, like the Mexican flag. So yummy. The chicken is shredded and cooked so it's almost crispy. I moved from Williamsburg to Astoria, and I still make the effort to come down here every now and then because it's so much better here than anywhere else. I am a Latino from Los Angeles who moved to New York in 2006 and was immediately disappointed by the Mexican food. I grew up eating the real deal from friends and family and little taco stands and restaurants all over Southern California and Mexico. Nothing here came close. Mexico 2000 is not the savior, but at least it comes close. This isn't saying a lot a lot, but this is the best Mexican food I have found in New York. The food is actually good and very home-made style. This would be average for L.A., but for New York it is five stars. I recommend the fresh-made chips with guacamole, the carne asada (whether as a plate or in a taco), the chile rellenos, the enchiladas, and the chilaquiles. All of them are by far the best I've had in New York, and I have been looking hard. Yes, yes, I will go so far as to say this place is the real deal. read more

Lately I've been cooking a lot of Mexican food from cookbooks by Rick Bayless and Diana Kennedy that call for lots of harder to find ingredients like epazote, nopales and a variety dried chiles. Mexico 2000 has just about everything I need and the produce is pretty much always cheap and fresh.
