I really enjoy this place. I work nearby and it is a great place to get a quick to-go meal. I always get mole enchiladas. Their mole is great, one of the better moles I have had. I don't really enjoy their salsa - it has no spice and taste more like seasoned tomato water. It's not chunky, either. Their beans and rice are OK. Two words - Chile Verde! Order anything on the menu with chile verde and enjoy a unique take on this classic mexican staple. Unlike most chile verde, theirs is pretty spicy and much more flavorful. I always order two smothered chicken burritos...one for dinner and one for the road. Other favorites are their carne asada, shredded beef tacos, tacos al carbon, hand made tamales, and posole. We visited this restaurant yesterday. The total experience was awful. The Arroz Con Pollo was runny like a stew with pockets of grease. Most Mexican restaurants provide great chips and salsa. This place offered barely tolerable chips with their Nachos worse. I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My husband and his family have been coming here for years and I can see why! This place is very consistent and I have yet to have anything bad here! This is my go to place when craving mexican food! A few things that are a must try, the ceviche. . Fresh and very very good. Cadillac Margaritas are smooth and refreshing. The Verde sauce is off the chain! Sometimes a little Spicer than normal. The huge chunks of pork in the sauce makes it even better. Give the smothered egg burrito a shot, not something I would normally order but my husband and father in law order it every time and it is one of the best mexican dishes I have put in my mouth! If you just want a few drinks and something to share, the nachos are cheesy goodness and the smothered potato skins are soft and covered in refried beans and the Verde sauce. Chips and salsa are good and they make their own salty mexican blend of spices you can sprinkle over your chips and or food. Try this place! You won't be dissapointed! read more

The mexico cafe serves up what i call mexican comfort foods. Ive been going since i was a kid. Some of my favorites are chile verde, chorizo con huevos burrito, chicken enchiladas, and celias nachos! I have been going to this place for years but last nights visit leaves me looking for other alternatives. The hostess was running around frantically trying to get tables clear but was not getting much done with her efforts it took a long time for us just to get seated on a Thursday night at 7pm. I ordered chicken mole which in the past has been a great dish, I knew what to expect. It took quite a while for us to get our order..my chicken mole was watery and kind of bland. My friend ordered the Gorditos that were the special for that evening and she said they were less than spectacular. This place really needs to clean up its appearance inside it is looking kind of run down compared to other choices of Mexican restaurants in the valley. The restroom was in need of cleaning to say the least. read more

I have loved eating at the Mexico Cafe for 45 years. The Chili Verde is like no other and the best in the world. I actually worked for the founding parents back in the late 60's, and know most of the adult children, of which the youngest son now owns the main restaurant. Half the year I live out of state, but on return to Skagit County, I try and eat here once a week, and freeze some to take back home. I LOVE this place. read more

Our favorite thai place was closed so we ventured on yelp for a open place and stubbled onto mexico cafe after no luck. finding an open thai place. The reviews were decent so we thought we would give it a shot. I have one thing to say to the customers that gave this place praising reviews. "What in the world are you guys smoking?!" I know its legal to smoke pot in wa state but come on! First things first their salsa was tomato sauce with green onions in it. Less than impressed I tried to continue positive. I ordered a chili relleno and caldo del mar soup. The chilli releno looked like a plate of cheese and grease literally and tasted like fried oiled filled cheese you could see more oil than cheese and chilli. Then when the waiter finally brought out my soup he managed to spill the scalding hot soup on my thigh and gave me a half hearted apology like it was nothing oh sorry bout that....and honestly the soup was a vegetable soup with all the key ingredients that would have made it great if added while it was simmering all on the side. We ordered fish and chips for my on who eats suhi and devours fish usually amd wouldnt touch any of it. Then when I went up to pay he walked by and said do you want me to take care of that for you right now... (um why would I be standing at the register if I didnt want tobe helped)... needless to say I left 50 dollars broker the whole family deeply regretting the meal for the rest of the day. Uninspiring. Wait staff not very attentive. Had to ask twice for iced tea refill and go up to register to get the bill.

Pretty bad experience. When the waitress was bringing our food to go, she dropped the bag with the food and didn't open it up to check if any spilled, thankfully it didn't. But when we got to the car to check the food one of the orders didn't have rice, went back to let them know. The woman just laughed and said she'd go and check what happened, we waited for about 10 min and she never came back out and when other waiters walked by they'd just look at us and it seemed almost like they were amused by the situation. Sorry but this used to be a great Mexican restaurant, not anymore! Our 2 appetizers were anything but;very poorly prepared! Not that tasty. Need to change their cooking oil.Our dining partners entrees were swamped in runny beans. A bad experience for all of us. We also felt the prices were way too high. read more

This is what I call a last resort dinner place. It's not my favorite Mexican food place, but it's not terrible. Their chips and salsa are awful though. They put chili powder on them and the salsa is absolutely flavorless. We asked for the spicy salsa and it was just hot and flavorless. The atmosphere is nice, as are the staff, and you can get food pretty quick. Drinks are good, but the food is just ho hum. read more

Pretty unassuming from the outside, but given the number of cars there I figured it had to be pretty good. The fish tacos are delicious! The fish was nice and crispy/crunchy but light (without a big battered crust) and the fish was in bite-size pieces so you got a little fish in each bite. Simple but so good! I'm glad I went, and if I ever get back out here (I'm from MA) I'll go again. Thanks to the other Yelp writers for their helpful recommendations, which motivated me to check it out. read more
