Sad disappointment. Wednesday afternoon. A few of us stopped for lunch and wished we hadn't. Warm water, no ice, served along with a small bowl of chips and a tiny bowl of salsa. Ordered food which was definitely not acceptable. Should have returned two plates: the child's meal and the 'cheede enchilada ', which was a piece of cheese rolled in a tortilla with unknown paste instead of a sauce. The paste was green, gelatinous and without flavor. Will never return. Also, we were taken aback by the absolutely cheap and downright tacky interior design. Bathroom door with a large crack in it. If you sit in the booth at the rear by the restroom hallway you get to hear loud hacking sounds and the noise of pot scrubbing makes you feel you're in the kitchen itself. My wife an I met another couple at La Catrina for dinner. Free street parking can be found in the surrounding area. Credit cards are an accepted form of payment with a 3.42% service charge added to each transaction. The first round of chips and salsa are complimentary. Chips and salsa servings are on the small side compared to other Mexican restaurants. Additional rounds will be charged. La Catrina offers a full bar but doesn't have a lounge. Weekday specials can be found on the entrance blackboard. While looking over the menu, my wife sipped on a Jameson for $12 and I slurped on a Negra Modelo for $7.50. I chose one Chicken Tinga Taco for $3.99: double tortilla, chipotle chicken, cilantro and onions. I also ordered a Pollo Habanero Taco for $3.99: double tortilla, chicken in habanero sauce and pico de gallo. My wife ordered the Carnitas Burrito Bowl for $18: flour tortilla bowl, rice, beans, queso crema, lettuce, cabbage and pico de gallo. Our friends ordered the Camarones a La Diabla for $27.99: prawns mushrooms, bell pepper and onions. Served with a side of rice and beans. Service was friendly but slow. Service was extremely slow and our server never checked in after taking our order, some parts of dishes were cool vs warm, missed our order of guacamole and an additional order of rice and beans. Also they really didn't explain the Margarita tower as each "bottle" has a single straw so weird for sharing if you're not family - and maybe if you are. Tower itself was a little dirty on the base. Catrina has fast become one of my favorite stops for dinner. Located in downtown MV, they're locally-owned and serving up tons of Mexican food deliciousness; especially on Taco Tuesday when you can grab one of their tiny, tasty tacos for only $175. My favorite is the chicken crema, which includes corn and a sinfully delicious, cheesy cream sauce. Next up, the chicken tinga, which are just spicy enough without killing my tastebuds. Their shrimp tacos (not part of the Taco Tuesday special, sadly) are also divine. When I go solo, I like to sit at the bar, get a pint of negra Modelo (yes, they have it on tap!), much some chips and salsa, and enjoy a few tacos. It's also a great place to go for a casual date, or with a crowd. They just recently doubled the size of the restaurant, when they took over and remodeled the space next door. No more long lines for Taco Tuesday! What sets Catrina apart, though, is the friendly staff. They make me feel right at home whenever I visit. The service is always fast, even when they're busy. The biggest challenge is parking, but usually you can find a spot if you drive around the block once or twice. read more

What a renovation. So much space. So much color. The vibe is elevated. Not the cheapest place to get Mexican cuisine, for sure, but all in all the trade remains worth it overall. I understand that the prices are not made by the workers, but i was talking with my friends saying how it's ridiculous the cost of a diet canned pepsi is $5, which was not listed on the menu with pricing (if it was listed i wouldn't have bought it because $5 for a can is insane) and the waitress jumped in saying "i don't make the prices"... i know... i wasn't saying you do? As soon as she went to the back i heard her talking smack about what i had said, very loudly to the other workers. I could hear her over the music which was pretty loud so it definitely felt intentional how loud she was talking about the interaction. Taco Tuesday is a winner here. $1.75 for most of the tacos on their menu. We were pretty hungry and ended up eating 9 tacos per person. On nice days they open up the old garage door in the front of the building which lets in lots of light and air. They also have a couple tables on the sidewalk patio. Server was super nice. Best tequila and tacos find in the entire state, hands down. This small gem exceeded expectations in service, for and price. Our server was very knowledgable and spent time explaining the different tequilas we inquired about, despite being busy. We spent most of our time tasting the recommended tequilas, but also tried a variety of tacos by the each ($3-4 per depending on protein choice). Wish we had more of an appetite to try more menu items- guess we'll just have to come back! This place is kid-friendly and group-friendly. Not too sure about pet-friendly but there was a patron who came in with a cat. It seems when the weather is warm, the garage door opens to the outdoors with patio seating. There is an 8 seat bartop, as well as 2 large group booths in the back area. The Tortilla soup was sooo good right down to the clank of the spoon in the empty bowl. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT A BEVERAGE!! Drove up from Seattle to Mount Vernon to see the Tulip Festival and wanted to get something to eat for lunch prior to seeing the tulips. So Yelped lunch restaurants and this place came up with great reviews. Took a little detour, found a parking spot (on the street) and went to eat lunch. This cute little hole in the wall place had legit Mexican food and is totally worth you stopping by for food. Both things that we ordered (from the lunch menu) was both delicious and reasonable. I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga and my friend got the Chicken Enchiladas. Food came out super quick and we were in and out of there within an hour and back on the road to see the beautiful tulips with full bellies! After our fantastic day exploring the ins and outs of Deception Pass, we decided to take the scenic route back to Seattle. A stop at Mount Vernon seemed appropriate since they have a quaint Downtown area. Catrina Tacos did the job for our hungry bellies. The photos on Yelp sold us. I will say, service and ambiance was completely acceptable. I thought our server was great, except he seemed to be overwhelmed since the restaurant appeared to be understaffed. The restaurant is bright and colorful, a bit cheeky at times. The menu is clearly labeled and has tons of options: cocktails, beers, appetizers, tacos, burritos, etc. The unanimous decision between our group of four was that the California Fries rocked. Presentation was killer, and so were the flavors. Would totally recommend for the table! The remainder of the dishes we tried left more to be desired. The Steakon Taco sounded amazing in theory; steak and bacon chunks. Surprisingly, the flavors were underwhelming. My Paloma was refreshing, as it's one of the most refreshing cocktails out there, just too sweet for my taste. Based off the reviews, we expected a little bit more from Catrina Tacos. I think in this scenario, the ratings are higher because there's not many places to eat in Mount Vernon, which I completely understand. Second time here in about 5 years. Just decided to stop in for some tacos. There is a large variety to choose from and all are priced at $2.99. They are small street tacos and I ordered 4. The menu has some other good stuff as well. There is a large selection of tequila for those of you who drink that stuff. I had a bad experience with tequila in my younger days and haven't touched it since (it was bad trust me). The service was excellent and our server was very pleasant. I'm glad to see this place survived. It's tucked away in old downtown Mount Vernon amid wedding shops and other establishments. Will be going back very soon. read more

Delicious food & drink, plus very respectful of dietary restrictions: DF & GF. Ordered the pineapple margarita to start which was dang delicious and large (will be returning just for this one) then ordered the small nachos as an entre but dairy-free. Being Dairy-free (extremely sensitive) and Gluten-free, eating out is always a concern. I ordered nachos with corn chips (naturally GF), beans, shaved cabbage (very light), pico de gillo, guacamole, and added beef (nixed cheese and sour cream, & jalapeno). So tasty and came out just as ordered without any allergens so far as I could tell. Of course a DF cheese would be really cool to offer but I'm not complaining. Loved the Dang those nachos were tasty and that margarita was too. Will be visiting again. read more

This restaurant in downtown Mount Vernon is earning quite the reputation for their Taco Tuesday, I had to go check it out, and I must say Catrina's didn't disappoint. They were packed and we still received great service. I had the steak tacos and I think I could have been eating tacos all evening, they were delicious! And the salsa is super good as well. I'll be going back to try the nachos on another day. I would highly recommend Catrina's Tacos & Tequila, come and see why another nearby restaurant actually attempted to stop this restaurant from opening in the downtown area, they were worried about the competition, as they should be, the crew at Catrina's obviously have Taco's dialed in. I love to see a prosperous restaurant in downtown Mount Vernon. Oh, and the City of Mount Vernon really improved parking in the downtown area as well, no more hunting for a parking spot. read more
