My husband, two sons and I just finished a great meal at this new restaurant. I ordered a combination platter with a tamale, burrito, and a tostada. My husband had the fajitas, and my 6 year old had chicken nuggets and fries. We showed up at 3PM on a Saturday afternoon. I couldn't believe how busy the place was in the middle of the afternoon. I saw this as a good sign. We were seated immediately, in a very clean booth. We were waited on by very nice and professional staff. The salsa was fresh and yummy... The food was excellent. It was refreshing that I had 3 different items on my plate, and they didn't cover it with some all purpose mexican sauce. There rice is good. If you are speeding along and don't know about this little spot you would miss it. Keep in mind since Im Bouji (is that how you spell it) I probably would have not stopped because Im not from this area and know nothing about it. Anyway I had lunch with the boss and this is one of her fav spots. Upon arrival you are served tortilla chips with salsa sour cream and guac. Did I mention I gave up chips- I was about to start shaking missing out on that crunchy goodness. My boss was tearing it up. My boss ordered fish fajita and I ordered a veggie quesadilla. My boss enjoyed her fajitas. The rice was good. My quesadilla was soggy. It wasnt great. Anyway I tried it. Again the rice was good. So try something else if you go. Overall clean, staff was attentive. I should have gotten a burrito, chimichanga- but Im on this veggie kick sometimes. Anyway try it and enjoy. this is the second time i've been to this location and the servers are horrible. no asking if we'd like a drink refill. no waiter stopping by the table the whole 2 hours we've been here. have seen the waiter 2 times. 1 time to order 2nd for bringing the food out. have been waiting for someone to come by so we can get check and boxes. have been done since 9:01 and it's now 9:30. not ONE waiter has been to either of these 3 occupied tables. second time in a row this location has given me horrible customer service. and on top of it all it was my little sisters birthday and i asked if they could do the song for her birthday. it NEVER happened. and when i asked for it he gave me horrible attitude and sighed. read more

The face of Calvert County is changing and what was once the old Surrey Inn, where you could get your omlette with or without the waitresse's dangling cigarette ash as garnish, has been replaced by "Mexico"...our first real Mexican restaurants. Like crowds? Good. Becuse like everything else new in Calvert County, Mexico is packed. All. The. Time. But it's not undeserved. The food is good, the service is fast and the plates are full. There are plenty of choices...although my west coast spouse bemoans the lack of fish tacos. Quite honestly, I can order a side of rice, beans and the ever present full basket of chips and be full. Mexico serves the greenest margarita I have ever seen. It's not the pale lime-like green of a freshly squeezed key-west fruit, but something akin to the blood of an alien and antifreeze. I'm sure that, if we smuggled a black light into the restaurant, the margarita would glow like nuclear waste. Did I mention how crowded it is? If you're from the county and you're trying to avoid someone else from the county...don't come here. Chances are you'll see them. Luckily, the waitstaff handles the influx of Calco's hungry masses well, and the wait has never been a long one. Oh yea. Fried IceCream. Very, very good. Not as entertaining as the chartreuse margarita, but worth ordering to share. If you find yourself in Calvert County and have a hankerin' for an inexpensive, solid Mexican meal in a large, family setting and the possibility of seeing one person sitting in a corner holding a blacklight up to her drink...Mexico is a perfect spot. read more

A coworker of mine recommended this place to me and I've briefly considered sending him a handwritten thank you note - this place is amazing. I've brought several groups of friends and family here and everyone has loved it - and I've been known to stop by after work and get an obscene amount of their queso to go. I'm a vegetarian and there are tons of options for me to choose from - there's a whole menu dedicated to meatless deliciousness! I really like the Veggie Yucatan. My husband is obsessed with their chorizo queso. They have good margaritas too, and will only tease you a little if you order a virgin pina colada {I would never order a virgin anything, but others in our party have... shamefully ;) }, This place can get crowded but it's much roomier than it looks from the outside. Parking is great, there's plenty available. The prices of food are perfectly reasonable, and the food comes out quick. The servers are very friendly, and will remember you if you frequent the place. All in all, it's a great place to eat and is one of my favorite places in the area. read more

Have been going there for years, until today I would have given them 5 stars, not because the food is the best I have ever had, but because the service has always been great, friendly atmosphere, great prices on the food and just an overall good place to relax. Well last night we order the same dish we have had at least a dozen times. It,s never been spicy and isn't supposed to be. Someone there, either the waiter or in the kitchen decided to get cute and loaded my dish with something like ghost peppers, one bite and I was choking. This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in our area. I love the chicken and rice dish and my fiancé always gets the chicken fajitas. He did venture out and try the mixed fajitas and really enjoyed that too. He's a fajita fan and I usually go for the chicken or carnitas. The carnitas are really good here too. During prime time, it packs up nicely, but turnaround is swift, and there is a bar to lounge at if you choose. Slower times are even better... I tend to gravitate there around 11:30/noontime for a bit of lunch, and the food arrives fast, fresh and in copious amounts. Additionally, the chips and salsa seem even tastier early in the day! A broad selection of beers are available, and there are a wide variety of selections for the seafood and veggie set as well as the usual chicken, beef, or beans sort of entrees. On their salsa alone I am sold!! It is the type I could eat straight from the bowl until the heartburn took over! Great flavors and just enough heat to make you glisten with sweat. Nice crisp chips that are not overly salty or greasy. Attentive servers and quick service- the main meal was great, but the sides were nothing special. We had the hard chicken tacos, which were exactly what I expected- delicious! It's not much to look at, but Mexico Restaurant is delicious, authentic food at a good price. The chips are hot and made fresh on the premises- divine! Portions are decent sized.... my brother the athlete cleans his plate, my grandparents share, and I the bookworm end up taking home about 1/3. The vast majority of the waitstaff speaks fluent Spanish, but their English is quite clear. It's clean but a little outdated and cramped. I don't recommend bringing small children who will wander or an infant who will need a high chair because there's not really enough room. But while it's not fancy, it's got character. It's not a slick Taco Bell and it's not the Ritz Carlton, but it's someplace local and fun to bring out-of-town guests. Seating and service were prompt. I tried the carnitas street tacos (four tacos). My wife had the vegetarian combo (cheese enchilada, bean enchilada, and bean tostada). We shared a flan. Let's start with the chips and salsa. The chips were fresh, crispy, and not oily. The salsa was authentic and had a slight bite to it (mildly hot). We love our salsa on the hot side. The carnitas were slightly crispy, moist, and seasoned well. They were delicious and I would recommend them to anyone who loves street tacos. . My wife did not care for the cheese enchilada very much. She said that it was hard and stuck to the plate. She did like the bean enchilada and bean tostada though. We were disappointed in the flan. It was served with little to no caramel sauce. (That's a very important part of the recipe). It lacked that soft, creamy, smooth texture and had a slight 'refrigerator" taste to it (the kind of taste you get when you fail to cover your food before storing it in the refrigerator). I would still recommend this establishment if for no other reason than it's street tacos. Im taking away one star for the cheese enchilada and another star for the flan. read more

Menu on clover is incomplete because they're lazy and don't take pride in what they do. If you switch from "in store pickup" to "curbside pickup" it really means wait outside for 20 minutes longer than the pickup time before going in the store to pickup anyway. Predictabley, the food was cold and soggy. Less predictabley the chicken was under seasoned and the peppers were only in half of one of the enchiladas. Chips were unsalted, salsa appears to have gone bad. Will not be going back. read more

We really enjoy this place, even though it is a drive. There are plenty of mexican places in and around Annapolis, but these are inconsistent at best. While the restaurant could use new seating, it is what you would expect of a roadside mexican cafe. Wait staff is always great, and the chips n salsa are the best. If you like hot salsa you have to request it, the one that comes it mild. Not on the menu is shrimp and steak fajitas, but the chef will make it if ordered. Prices are fantastic. For two of us, with a drink each, and usually one take home item comes in under $50 with tip. read more

I'm from San Antonio, so when we moved to Calvert County I was excited to hear about this "great" Mexican restaurant. What a disappointment. First off, I didn't know it was possible to make Mexican food so bland. Places where asadero or other queso blanco should be used, they're substituted with monterey jack. The peppers managed to be equally, and inexplicably, bland. Further, any attempt to spice things up with the (watery) salsa is futile. At best, I would describe Mexico as the IHOP of Mexican food. If you're a fan of Denny's, maybe it's for you. read more

Went here on a Saturday a little after 6 pm. It was not too crowded yet, but I second what others have said about Mexico...it definitely will get crowded! (As it did by the time we left) The salsa is absolutely amazing, and the wait staff readily refills the chips and the salsa for you. I ordered the Arroz con Pollo. It was flavorful, excellent, and huge. I couldn't finish all of it, but the part that I did eat was fantastic. It's still remarkable after several visits that this place used to be the Surrey Inn.
