Sit-down Mexican restaurants are kind of hard to find but taquerias are a dime a dozen. Why is this? I loved Mezcal Grill. What a warm and inviting place, first class service, very officious and absolutely tasty dishes. I got to try a lot of things besides my entree of arrachera (skirt steak). While the chips were OK, the salsas were delicious and tasted fresh, not canned. The apps did not disappoint. The choriqueso and the beans with chorizo both exuded smoky flavors, and the accompanying tortillas were just the right touch too. The guac was better than most restaurants and did not need additional seasoning. One of my colleagues had the chile verde, which I got to try. Usually it's hard to get a good one but not here. I was a bit put off by it being plated in a separate plate but the overall taste was wonderful, like a good guisado with hearty chunks of pork. My skirt steak was served atop a corn tortilla with a fat roasted jalapeno pepper (chile toreado) and some Mexican-style green onions that were grilled. Good taste of beef and quite filling along with the guacamole on the plate and the salsas. All this came with your choice of tortillas for $23. Drinks were plentiful --the aguas frescas that day were jamaica (hibiscus) and horchata, both very good choices. My mango margarita had this spicy ring around like a Michelada, a real treat each time I took a sip. Should have had another. All around spectacular service, superb dishes, and a real eagerness to please. Will be back! read more

I love this take on Mexican cuisine. Cute place, stumbled in while waiting out rush hour traffic. Servers were friendly, not difficult to get a table for one as a solo diner and staff was very attentive, my meal (chile relleno and enchilada plate with mole sauce) was so good, I grabbed my vegan partner an order of the impossible al pastor tacos to go. The cactus was good, the carnitas were dry and the asada pretty good. The garlic shrimp platter was recommended to us. The shrimp was overcooked, but fresh tasting. Finally the margarita... HUGE! Stopped by Mezcal Grill for a late brunch around 2pm. Parking behind the restaurant is limited but there is street parking on the side. The place wasn't very busy, my friend and I chose to sit on the outdoor patio which had a relaxed vibe with people coming and going. Service was quick we were brought chips, salsa, water, and menus right away. I had the Pastor Impossible salad bowl and a mango margarita the large is literally large lol, my friend ordered the enchilada and taco plate. My salad was fresh and good, I was surprised the "impossible" meat was plant based and the honey mustard dressing was a little unexpected. Overall friendly service a nice casual atmosphere, I'd come back. Tip:The large margarita is definitely big, just keep in mind it's only available on the rocks. read more

I admit I didn't eat here. I was eating at the place next to it. But that place was so busy that we were able to sit in this restaurants area which was very nice of them. So i was looking at all the food coming out of this restaurant and it looked amazing. The chips looked so good. The plates of food were generous. I plan to eat here my next time in Sacramento because I am still seeing the plates of amazing foods dancing in my head. The restaurant is very clean and really nice on inside and outside. They had misters to make people comfortable in hot weather. I look forward to eating here next time as I love Mexican food and this place looks like it is a notch above most. read more

Friendly service but here's my problem. Tacos were nothing special- but if you are going to say they are Mexican tacos and given it to a paisano... loaded up with carrots, jalapeños, y mas. I'm not from sac so after an event my regular taco place was closed so I wanted tacos. If I'm being charged nearly 20 dollars for 4 tacos then I would expect them to be loaded. Idk what's going on with Mexican restaurants- from the bag to sac but value is starting to disappear. I really did not want to write this review but like you and I, we work hard for our money. I ordered take out for lunch. I ordered two tacos ala carte. I went to pick it up at the restaurant. The staff was nice. I paid for my order, and they offered me to get some chips and salsa at their chip bar. I waited for my order about 5 mins. The tacos were ok. I thought the chicken was a little dry. Before catching a show downtown, I came to Mezcal Grill with my dad and his friends for dinner. None of us had been there before, but we were warmly and promptly greeted and seated. We arrived during happy hour and took advantage of one of their happy hour specials - chips and guacamole. It was a decent size portion of guacamole for the price, but we definitely needed more chips (which they happily brought). They also brought complementary chips and salsa, which were quite tasty. For my entrée, I ordered the Carnitas plate with corn tortillas. Some of the others ordered fish tacos, enchilada plates, and burritos. All of the food came out relatively fast and piping hot. My Carnitas plate was delicious and more than enough food for leftovers. My dad ordered a burrito and it was absolutely massive. All in all, this is a decent Mexican restaurant off Broadway. Second time here, everything was outstanding. We got the sopes with carnitas, asada, and al pastor. The asada was my favorite, it was very juicy, flavorful, and tender even though it was cut in very small pieces. I also got the potato taco plate, which I also loved. It had a yummy tomato sauce on top. Our third item was the super burrito with asada, very solid and large for only being $13. We finished with the flan, which was so creamy and dense, probably the best flan I've had. Normally they are extremely watery, but not this one. The presentation was also 10/10. Service was great, the restaurant was full but we didn't wait more than 10 minutes for our food once the order was placed. We're here at least once a month and I almost want to gatekeep bc we never have to wait to be seated and would love for it to stay that way! The food is always fresh, perfectly seasoned, and never greasy. Portions are generous, prices are great, and cocktails are strong. This is definitely a bougie place in Tahoe Park. Parking is a bit difficult, but we were able to score a spot in the back (very tight for our minivan). The decor is super cute. Because it was hot, we opted for indoors, but the patio looked fun and plenty of folks were enjoying their dinners out there. There was a mix of folks, from couples to families, and we didn't feel out of place there at all. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. We got their basic margarita, which had plenty of tequila in it. I loved the mahi mahi tacos, which had a nice sauce with it. Rice and beans were great. I really enjoyed the spicy red sauce that came with the chips, and my partner preferred the green sauce, which was more sour. The churros with ice cream was a nice way to end the night. Overall, this is a solid spot for more upscale Mexican. I think the flavors could be a little more complex, but I'll have to check out more dishes. We will be back for sure! read more

Wow I was blown away by their delicious food, large portions, affordable prices, and great customer service! Was craving Mexican cuisine a weekend evening and decided to try Mezcal Grill. I've passed by this restaurant a handful of times and always wanted to stop by. I am so glad I did! We were immediately seated when we arrived despite the restaurant being quite busy. The server quickly served us water and complimentary chips with salsa. We were so hungry that we finished our chips before even placing our order. Our server was so kind and attentive and brought out 2 more plates of chips and a variety of salsa for us to try! Their chips were perfectly fried and seasoned. They also had various salsa ranging from mild to spicy - all super yummy! We ordered their wet style mezcal burrito, super burrito, vegetarian burrito, and quesadilla plate. Everything was soooo delicious!! We selected the vegetarian fajita mix for our mezcal and vegetarian burritos. Both were very good but hands down, the vegetarian burrito was the best one! Just look at that cross section! It was so creamy and perfectly seasoned. Each bite was full of texture and flavor. I want to go back just for their vegetarian burrito! The super burrito and quesadilla plate was great too. We've never tried pastor impossible meat before and as vegetarians, we thought it was delicious and nothing like other imitation meat we've had before. Definitely worth a try if you're vegetarian or vegan! Their portion sizes are huge and prices are super affordable! Love that most dishes can be made vegetarian as they offer vegetarian fajita mix and impossible pastor meat as protein options. This is now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Sacramento! Nothing offensive. A well-balanced blend of flavors, which is quite uncommon among Mexican restaurants. I haven't had anything offensive here. I'd eat here, but I find it difficult to rave about a cuisine I despise. There's cilantro in everything and they don't understand the concept of leaving it out of the dish. Slightly bougie/slightly authentic when it comes to Mexican food. I tried to Michelada, cucumber margarita, torta, and then enchilada/one crunchy taco plate. The bigger miche was good, humongous and came with Chicharrones that was really flavorful. Sometimes people make this drink really on the base however everything was perfectly curated with the perfect amount of tomato in it. As for the torta, it came with the mezcal sauce, which I personally thought tasted like tomato bisque soup, however, my husband is a huge fan of it. As for me, I really enjoyed the green enchiladas because the sauce was really good. I didn't know, however, like the crunchy taco, as it was a little dry in my opinion, it would be nice if they put a little small side of salsa on it. As for the chips and salsa, the tomatillo salsa was probably some of the best that I had in a while. I did not however really care for the red salsa. As for the service, they were really fast however, kind of lagged on giving us our check. I'm not sure if it was because they wanted us to just enjoy our time on the patio, but that could be the reason. The fajita platter was okay but VERY heavy on the bell peppers and very thinly sliced steak. The flavor of the steak was just ok. I will say their rice was amazing! Came on a Saturday night, ~10min wait for an outdoor table. We thought it might be too cold, but the heaters were BLASTING. I got the Carne Asada Super Burrito without the beans, and it was delicious! Everything was portioned evenly so I got most of the elements in each bite. The portions were pretty big for a good price, we even took alot of leftovers home. Our waitress was kind and attended all our needs promptly.
