I really did not want to write this review, as this restaurant is very close to my new office and I had hoped to bring my team here for lunches. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. A coworker and I visited for lunch on Monday and decided to split the carne asada nachos. The dish appeared to have been sitting out for some time. The cheese had completely coagulated and hardened to the point that the chips could not be pulled apart or eaten properly. That said, the flavor of the carne asada itself was delicious. I mentioned the issue to the waitress, and while she apologized, it felt dismissive and as though she did not truly care. When a customer expresses dissatisfaction with their food, a simple apology is not enough -- the response should be an effort to make things right. I hope this was just an isolated experience, as the location and menu have the potential to make this a convenient and enjoyable lunch spot. read more

(Order as an appetizer because it is not given). We ordered the quesadilla birrias and enchiladas. Rating 1/5 for enchiladas. And quesadilla birrias 1.7/5 it's more edible no flavor and not good meat. 0/5 for the consome (broth) no flavor and tastes like salty water. Lunch with a few of my cousins, one recommended we try ThirtyFour Mexican restaurant as I've never been there before. We arrive around 3pm and there is limited meter parking. We see one patron is dining in the patio area. The waitress seats us right away and the inside has a small bar. We order chips & salsa with guacamole for the table. These were delicious and FRESH. Our entrees were large portions for around $20 per person, normal price for a fast food/old school Mexican restaurant. One thing I disliked was the texture and freshness of the shredded chicken on the Cesar salad, I would skip this and order birria tacos instead. Our server did take quite a bit of time to give us our check, but she never gave us our check! She instead told us the total and stood next to us waiting for payment. I think they should print an itemized receipt for all customers as it seems shady when you don't. I'm sure the state workers like the fast service and vibe. read more

Super conveniently located, from the Capitol as well as several State government buildings. The prices seem rather reasonable for downtown Sacramento. On Fridays, the burrito is $2 off! I also was eyeing the birria ramen. Might want to come back for that. The staff were friendly and attentive. Decor was a very cute Mexican restaurant. The building makes it look like an institution here in Sacramento, amongst all the towering buildings. We ordered two carnitas burritos recommended by the waitress. Stopped in on a hot day with my girls, and this place absolutely hit the spot! The vegetarian tacos were incredible--packed with flavor and super satisfying. It gets really busy during the lunch rush with all of these state buildings in the area. The chips and salsa were good and it's not complimentary fyi but can get refills. We made a reservation for two for today at lunch and were the only ones at the restaurant. Towards the middle and end of our visits the restaurant started having more customers. Went for one of the Friday special's which is AYCE for $29 per person. You initially begin with a starter and then receive your first plate of rice, beans, 4 street tacos or 2 mini quesadillas. The meat choices are chicken, asada, birria, chorizo, carnitas, adovada con pina, potatoes & carrot, poblano zucchini and mushroom. After that, you can continue ordering 4 tacos or mini quesadillas along with rice or beans. Soft drinks are included with this deal. The service was pretty quick although it was expected as it wasn't busy. There were multiple servers who assisted and all friendly. Overall, the experience was nice. It was hard to eat additional tacos so I may come here for smaller portions in the future. read more

Love coming here for my lunch. The salsa and Quacamole is always fresh.. I am serious; its really fresh! This is a great place to eat with friends for lunch that have plenty of room for big or small groups. Their food is really good and tastes good. Came here to try the new All You Can Eat Mexican food on Fridays only. This was their second week with the new menu but they still pulled through. They were very understaffed so service was slow but that was due to many staff calling out and the remaining servers did their best to keep up despite the influx of people. They were not expecting the crowd so by the time we ordered, they were out of chorizo and rice. Despite the setbacks, the service was great and everyone was very accommodating. So we started with the chips and guacamole and chips and salsa. I preferred the guacamole more as the flavor was perfect and the salsa was slightly spicy but it adds a nice punch. We also got the horchata which we downed and ended up getting a refill. For our first plate, we got the 4 tacos and I have to say the carnitas was my favorite. They only serve carnitas on Fridays too so it's a must try. My bf got the mini quesadillas for his second plate and I wish I had done the same. They were not mini as they were stuffed with meat and the cheese was crispy and added great flavor. Overall, give them a chance and some patience and it will be worth it. read more

Very limited menu, high prices for what you get, extra cost for chips and salsa, while lunch service is good, afternoon service sucks. Their hours are bad too. They close at 6 pm, that's IF they were open to begin with. Many times they close when they are advertised as open. Thirtyfour Cantina is an amazing place to eat. As I walked into the door the staff greeted my whole party. I went with a group of girlfriends for a Galentines outing. There was a mariachi band that was playing and serenading the restaurant. They were fantastic. The wait staff was attentive and amazing at meeting our needs. It was obvious they work as a team because it was busy and any time a waiter/waitress walked by they asked if we needed anything. The food was fire. SO DELICIOUS! We ordered tacos 3 different meats. Carne Asada, Birria, Adovada con Pina. All delicious and tender. We got the house salsa and the guacamole. Rice and beans tasted homemade and authentic. So fresh and tasty. We finished the meal with a churro bundt cake. It was warm delicious and filled with dulce de leche. Sooo good. We will definitely make this a regular stop for our friend group. Thirtyfour Mexican Cantina has been my go to for Nachos, Chips and Salsa, and Carne Asada fries. They also got this orange sauce that is pretty fire! On Wednesday and Thursday mornings they even have grab and go breakfasts. The grab and go combo is a small burrito (half of a regular size burrito) and a coffee for $10. The choices of burritos are chorizo or asada with eggs, cheese, and potatoes. This is a very clever idea for some of us state workers that are in a rush in the morning. A majority of the the time I come eat here, my server is Ericka. Ericka is a really great waitress. She is attentive, friendly, funny, and provides excellent service. Also a great person to chat with. All other staff are just as awesome as well. I can never decide if I want nachos or carne fries so I opt for nachos with steak/asada and a side of fries. The guacamole stays green! I don't know what their secret is but I'll have some left over for lunch the next day and my guac doesn't have a spot of brown on it. The chips (crunchy and thin) and salsa are also delicious, the salsa tastes fresh from the garden and has a nice kick to it. Whom I think was the manager saw I was waiting by the take out sign apologized that the food was taking longer than expected due to the crowds. I got my food at 12:15. I get the same thing every time because their fries are just that good. The employees are always pleasant no matter if they're slammed or not. Went here on a weekday with coworkers on our lunch. Restaurant looks larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Waitress was lovely and willing to explain recommendations and specials. They charge for chips and salsa here... but the salsa was delicious and homemade. It was warm though and could build up for those with low spice tolerance. All four of us ended up ordering the quesabirria tacos because it looked that good. Our fatal flaw was dousing our tacos was the spicy sauces. Next time try the tacos with no sauce. Then add a little bit of spice as you go and dip in the consome. We added spice right off the bat, everywhere. It was too spicy and overpowered the whole taco. We came here for that all you can eat tacos but at $29.99 per person it was a fail... other than having the live mariachi band come and serenade us for my friend's birthday. The tortillas were dry and the tacos were mediocre. Nothing out of the ordinary in flavor or presentation. You only get one order of beans and rice and it's unlimited tacos or quesadillas stuff with a small selection of proteins. It may have been a better choice for us to order from the menu instead of getting the AYCE tacos. read more

I was in town for a couple of days and had some time to sit down for a nice lunch. I wanted something other than a sandwich and I was intrigued by the look and inviting outside seating area of this little hut that was close to where I was. I walked in, and I was instantly glad I did. The atmosphere was friendly and they had Mexican music playing that made the atmosphere friendly and fun. To start, I ordered chips and salsa. I liked the choice between mild and hot salsa. I ordered the mild. I was thrilled when I saw they were both made to order; they were fresh and tasty. I'm a picky eater when it comes to onions and asked they not be put into my enchiladas. The kitchen accommodated me without a problem and enjoyed my lunch. From what I read in other Yelp reviews, the restaurant is new to this space, which gave me important context to the service. It took a little time to seat me and get my drink (water) served. I also was given silverware and napkins right before my main course but after I was enjoying my chips and salsa. I think these issues will be smoothed out as the restaurant gets its legs under it. They are a Pepsi shop so they didn't have Mexican Coca Cola available, which would have went wonderfully with my meal. Prices were reasonable, the food was tasty and the atmosphere was fun.
