I literally drive past this restaurant every day after work, so it was finally time I come check it out. I went to dinner with one of my girlfriends on a Friday night. We were seated right away with a reservation. The interior was Tulum inspired, which definitely made it a vibe! There was even a station where someone was making fresh tortillas. We were right in time for the Mariachi Band, which usually plays every Friday from 8-10 PM. We started with the Margarita Flight, which included 4 flavors - Watermelon, Cucumber, Pineapple, Jamaica and the Queso Fundido with Chorizo served with fresh tortillas. I was in the mood for something light, so I ordered the Aguachile Don Lupe Mixto and my friend order the A Lo Mexican Style. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! We were having such a good time that we ordered another round of drinks - El Flaco and Tamarindo Margarita. We ended the night with a Digestivo - Horchata Carajillo. Shout out to our server! Misleading. My friends and I came to watch a World Cup game after seeing an Instagram ad for food and drink specials. Staff seated us near a TV, and our server was great. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by what felt like misleading advertising. We ordered several items expecting the advertised prices, but only some were discounted. When we asked, we were told the specials only applied after 6:00 PM. We started ordering around 5:50 PM, but no one mentioned the cutoff. The extra cost was frustrating, but the bigger issue was the lack of transparency. Had the restriction been communicated upfront, we could have made informed choices. We had brunch on a Saturday and were amazed by the decor. Definitely felt like we were dinning somewhere in Mexico. It wasn't too busy for a weekend brunch and servers were very attentive. We started off with the queso fundido with chorizo and aguas de pepino. The queso fundido was cheesy and the tortillas were soft. The cucumber water was perfect. Not too sweet and it was pulpy so we knew it was made in house. Strong start. The food took awhile to come out and when it arrived the presentation was lacking in everything except for the nuggets and fries from the kid's menu that was probably the best dish. For the adults we ordered: Caldo de lengua: Received just the tongue in a bland soup. My friend had to waive down the server and ask for onion, cilantro, and salsas to add more flavor to it. Guamachil - the green chilaquiles were good but the machaca was underwhelming. It lacked flavor and was mushy. Sinaloense - this was one of the better dishes with the sope of asientos and carne asada but the sope itself was over fried so it was hard which ruined it all. The beans were also very bland and needed salt. Left most of them. Brunch prices are reasonable, but not enough to come back. The place is definitely more for an aesthetic vibe. There was also a photographer going around taking pictures and we thought it was for their social media advertising but she later returned with printed and framed photos to sell to us. Hubs and I enjoyed every moment and every bite. A Mariachi band arrived a few minutes before we were finished eating. This restaurant is new to me and I was grateful to have visited here recently. I don't have enough pictures of the aesthetics, however this place is exactly which you would hope a Mexican restaurant would look like. Great decorations throughout, very culturally centered around regions of Mexico. The servers were just in very traditional, Mexican dresses and uniforms. I wasn't however, impressed too much with the food itself. The sauces were pretty basic and nothing too impressive. One of them, the green one almost reminded me of kale juice with a little bit of spice in it. The friend I was with was having the emoladas and he wasn't too impressed. The dish I had is a concoction of green sauce, beef, broth, Asada meat, and some type of pork meat as well. It almost tasted like they just put random meat in a bowl and doused it and green enchilada sauce. Definitely was not the worst Mexican food I've had, but it wasn't the best either. Presentation was actually also pretty impressive. But I return here? Yes, I would. But I would have my expectations in a neutral position versus going in there with high expectations and feeling that down after spending all that money. read more

When you first walk in you are transported to a lush , beautifully decorated restaurant that reminds me of puerto Vallarta. The staff was incredibly kind. It's Sunday 7:45 and it's packed with a 45 min wait. We sit at the bar and have full service. They bartenders are making glorious cocktails with tahini rims. I wasn't drinking but everything they were making looked delicious. The food was really flavorful. I had carne en su Hugo. This is prime beef cooked in its own sauce. Mexican beans cooked in a clay pot, bacon, coma, banana, peppers, cilantro, and onions. It was phenomenal. My husband had the crujientes De papa. We made reservations ahead of time and were sat within 5 minutes. They have their own parking lot and are located a little past the mall. It's nicely decorated with a Bohemian updated look. It's bigger than it looks as there is a second section towards the back. We walked by a homemade tortilla station where she was making tortillas by hand, which was cool. They have music playing in the background and every so often you hear Las mañanitas playing for someone's birthday. There was one table where they're already grabbing their stuff to leave and they went to their table with lights. I think staff forgot. It started off well with impressions but fell with the service. We ordered drinks first and appetizers. For my drink, I ordered the Dona Lencha. It was a Pretty presentation however, I think they forgot to add the alcohol. My husband said it taste like an agua fresca... Another person who ordered a cocktail said his didn't have any as well. We didn't order another.... We had the queso fundido with chorizo and it was good. We also had the guac with chicharrones and those were good. They brought us chips with 3 salsas. The red had a weird taste to it, and the green one had a good kick to it. Once our food came out, I asked for more salsa for my carnitas. They forgot. I asked again for salsa and tortillas for the carnitas and that took a long time. I was already done with half my meal by the time she came. I then asked her about the rice and beans that came with my meal because it was never brought out and she was going to check on that. That was another mission. I feel like it's common server etiquette to ask if there's anything else needed when you drop off the food. They cleared our plates off and we sat there for a long time without being checked on. We made reservations to eat here on Valentine's Day and hadn't really looked at any of the reviews before making such decision. When we started to read them, we saw a lot of constant issues being brought up by multiple people. Trying not be discouraged by everyone else, we decided to still give Los Amores de Julia a shot. We arrived a couple minutes before our reservation and were seated quickly after checking in. Our waiter didn't take long to come by and was honestly pretty attentive all throughout the night. At one point during our meal, the manager also came by to check on our table and honestly all the staff was great. They also have mariachi on Saturday nights and luckily we got to experience them on our visit. It's a pretty well decorated restaurant with plenty of seating available throughout the restaurant. Lots of really cool decor everywhere you look. The food is what we were mostly excited about and if I'm going to be real, it's nothing crazy. I tried ordering the enchiladas marinas but they were out of them (you would think they're ready for one of the busiest nights of the year) The queso fundido was just alright and the enchiladas were pretty average. On the bright side, there is a lady making fresh tortillas and you are served fresh ones with the queso. The only thing that actually wowed us was the watermelon margarita which was very delicious. First time going to this place today. I was in the area and decided to stop by luckily it was not full I've seen the ads on instagram and the vibes def look great. The portion on the steak was great, but I was really surprised they only slapped on a quesadillas which was warm and a tiny bit of guacamole like a table spoon, rice and beans which where also warm. I was excepting a little more wow on the dishes but were very basic/bare minimum when it came to presentation. The presentation was not the greatest. My mom order the 4 street tacos and they had meat but a pinch of cilantro and a pinch of onion, the lime was dry as well and a small amount of salsa 5/10 for food. I really hope they improve this bc the amount of time and money this place presents visually doesn't compare to food presentation. Agua fresca felt a bit over sugary. My best friend and I decided to go on a girls date night and picked Los Amores de Julia after seeing a few videos on social media. The fancy drinks caught our eye, but unfortunately, that won't be enough to bring us back. Location & Parking: The restaurant is off Arden in a busy area. The lot is cramped and chaotic, people were practically fighting over spots when we left. Thankfully, we arrived early and snagged a space without too much trouble. Ambiance: 10/10 This place is stunning. Beautiful decor, tons of seating, cozy booths, greenery and lanterns hanging from the ceiling... it's a whole vibe. Bonus points for purse racks at the table. We had high hopes based on looks alone. Service: 5/10 It started off great... friendly, helpful, prompt. But then it got excessive. Within 10 minutes, we were interrupted four times by different staff members while trying to talk. I appreciate good service, but there's a point where it goes from attentive to disruptive. That, plus the food situation, killed the vibe. Food: 3/10 We started with drinks and the queso fresco, both delicious. The chips were meh, and the green salsa was a hard pass. The red salsa was fine. We shared the refried beans, which were watery and bland. I ordered the Verdosas enchiladas with chicken, and she got the quesabirrias. Neither of us liked our meals. The tortillas were dry, the meat was flavorless, and the whole thing was just a letdown. Honestly, we should've sent it all back. The bill came in a cute little treasure chest, which was a nice touch. But no amount of aesthetic can make up for the food being that bad. We spent way too much money to have left hungry like we did. (not worth $32 though) but probably the most flavorful thing we ate. The Cons: the salsa that comes to the table.... It was like a watered down spaghetti sauce.... Weird!!! But hey at least that was free (the chips are good though). BUT whatever you do, DO NOT order the QUESABIRRIAS taco! You get 4 tiny soggy "tacos with a little meat and cheese. It was the saddest quesabirras I've ever seen. No crunch, no onions, no cilantro and NO flavor. Cons continued: We also got the appetizer of LOS ESQUITES. We seen a video on their Instagram where they bring a cart out and make this in front you..... NOPE doesn't happen in real life... you get a barely warm bowl of corn and mayo for $12. The margarita flight .... Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too sweet! We also got some langua enchiladas ($28) ... blah... chewy langua and maybe 3-4 bites per enchilada for wayyyy too expensive. Went to Los Amores de Julia on a Wednesday night. There was a good amount of people, but it wasn't packed, which made for a really enjoyable and relaxed dinner. As soon as you walk in, there's a woman making handmade tortillas, which immediately sets the tone. The decor is absolutely stunning. Honestly, it might be the most beautiful restaurant in Sacramento in my opinion. I actually loved going during the week since it was quieter. I know they have live music on other nights, but this was perfect for a calm dinner where you can really take in the space. We ordered a few different ceviches, and the standout by far was the Ceviche Doña Julia. It's a shrimp and watermelon ceviche and wow... that was my favorite thing of the night. So fresh, so flavorful. I would come back just for that alone. I also ordered the green enchiladas de lengua. Everything was good and the green sauce was great. The lengua itself could have been a bit more tender, but overall still enjoyable. Our server was fine, though he never introduced himself or gave his name. What really stood out was the manager, who checked in on us multiple times and genuinely made us feel welcome. That definitely made up for the service and elevated the experience. We finished with the mazapán flan for dessert, and it was good as well. Overall, a great experience. Beautiful space, memorable food, and a place I'll definitely keep coming back to read more

We waited another 10 minutes for a new batch, but by the time they arrived the queso had already gone cold. The drinks were also very sweet. I tried the margarita flight (which is $20 on Thursdays), but they were so sugary that we couldn't really taste the alcohol. It also took about 45 minutes for our food to come out after ordering. One thing I really dislike at restaurants is when meals for the table don't come out together. Our food arrived first and started getting cold while we waited another 5 minutes for my husband's meal to come out, which made things a bit awkward. The enchiladas themselves were cheese-filled, with the lengua placed on top, and there was only a minimal amount of meat. I feel the meat should be inside the enchiladas rather than on the side. This was my first time visiting Julia, and unfortunately the experience did not meet expectations. Service was the main issue throughout our visit. Our waitress rarely checked on our table, which made it difficult to get even basic requests fulfilled. We ordered an appetizer that required tortillas, but they were only brought once and never replenished. After our main food arrived, I had to ask again for both tortillas and the complimentary chips and salsa that are typically provided at the beginning of the meal. Despite the request, these items never came. There were also issues with seating. I had made a reservation for a party of five, yet we were seated at a table meant for four. This was confusing, especially since the restaurant had more than 20 open tables at the time. Additionally, we were placed directly behind the mariachi band, which made conversation difficult and did not feel thoughtfully arranged given the available space. On a positive note, the food itself was not bad, and the interior of the restaurant is very nice and well-designed. However, the lack of attentiveness and organization significantly impacted our overall experience. Due to these issues, we will not be returning in the future. There was a confusion about one of the dishes and our server told us one thing(after asking what I assume a supervisor) that same supervisor came over to tell us the opposite of what he had just told the server to say. The supervisor was very dismissive about us being upset with our entire experience. When we went to the bathroom the trash was over filled, there was trash on the floor, one of the sinks were clogged so we could only use one and there was literal human waste on the floor that no one has cleaned up I'm assuming that's what's causing the bathroom to smell so bad.That made me sick because obviously people have been stepping in it and therefore carrying it around the restaurant where people eat!!! read more

My husband and I checked out this place to celebrate his birthday and I am so glad we did because this place was most definitely a vibe. We went on a Thursday evening around 6 and surprisingly, it was not busy at all. We were greeted when we walked in and waited less than five minutes to be seated. The hostess was initially going to seat us in the dining room that you first walk in to, but the window was open and cold air was blowing in, so we asked to be seated in another area. We ended up sitting in a booth in the other dining room that had a stage and a lovely mariachi band played that night. I loved that we were able to listen to a live band while enjoying our dinner. For drinks, we had a margarita flight and the Doña Rosa. The drinks were decent. For food, we started off with the guacamole, which was served with chicharrones, and then had los de asada tacos and the quesabirria tacos. The guacamole was a little bland, but the asada and quesabirria were flavorful. Our server was Marly and she was so sweet.
