We have been waiting for mezcal to open because we love 618 and its one of our favorite restaurant to go too for a special occasion. We came as a group of 6 and our server (rick?) was very attentive and explained the menu well. We had the speciality drinks spice is nice that one that came in a skull head and it was delicious.my husband had a pineapple margarita and he enjoyed it as well. We shared the papas ala mezcal which are similar to the smashed potatoes at 618 and they were amazing. For dinner i did the skirt steak tacos and my husband had the skirt steak both enjoyable. We had a side of the street corn which was only half the bowl so that was disappointing. Went to Mezcal's restaurant tonight and was pleasantly impressed. Decorated well. Servers were well trained, courteous, friendly, and polite. Food was delicious and presented well. Mixed drinks were visually appealing as well as tasty. Met the GM, Ed, who was visiting with customers to make sure they were happy. He was obviously doing an excellent job because the restaurant was extremely busy but running smoothly. The bar works like a well-oiled machine under the direction of the lovely, friendly and efficient bar manager. All in all, a lovely and delicious experience. I have to start off by saying what a beautiful restaurant. And the service is amazing - though they took long after dinner to check on everything. A lot of the drinks/deserts were picked because they have a 'presentation'. They also came buy with free tequila shots and the Esquites side dish was complementary. Chips and Salsa were served when you sit down, but chips were super thick which I disliked. We were a party of 4. We started off the No BS drinks and the Snow Marchies. Both had an amazing presentation. We loved both cocktails - they were excellent. We ordered 2 apps - the stuffed poblano and the Queso. Both were good. I have had similar queso and other places. It was in the middle of the pack. I don't like peppers, so I didn't try it, but everyone else liked it. Dinner was very mixed. One couple ordered the 40oz Tomahawk to Share. It was not very good. Ordered medium rare, maybe a bit over and DRY, some left over as no one liked it. We had the spinellas rib cap and the Halibut. While my wife liked the Halibut itself, much of the stuff on the plate was cold - except for the fish. My ribcap was very good. Everyone liked it best. Sides.... mixed. Eqsuites (corn) was excellent. Mac and Cheese was very good. Whipped potatoes reminded me of Swanson frozen dinners from when I was a kid. Desert... Churros for 2. 2 stuffed churros under 3 scoops of ice cream with a fancy fire presentation. It was ok - though $29 just for that. This bill came to $720 for 4 people including tax and tip. I can't say that anything that I ate was bad, some was very good. However, at that price (this might be the most expensive dinner I have ever had) everything should be excellent. We ate at the Capital Grill in Cherry Hill for lunch last week. We had apps, main course and desert. Every course was superior to Mezcal and the bill was $125 with tax and tip for 2. Overall, this restaurant is style over substance IMHO. When we first sat down, we were all talking about making additional reservations. Came here for a second time. Still top tier service, but definitely different than the first time because I originally came during the opening time/preview. The place is beautiful. One thing I noticed is the music was so loud tonight. Literally felt like I was in a club, which was a little too much for us we thought while we were dining. Also the tsp water still tastes awful. We brought it up the first time and they said they would fix it, but we were told now that it had to do with the town. Our meals were very good and the spinalis was still delicious. It's impossible for a table to get their cocktails at same time since many of the cocktails arrive in a convoluted and unnecessary preparation. We just wanted our drinks. And they are pushy with upselling (bottled cocktails to go?!) items. Especially after we've already spent a lot on cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. I'd also like to see the servers be more authentic and less reliant on canned, prepared verbiage that the management wants them to spew. Mezcal is undoubtedly one of the hottest restaurants in Central NJ right now - the place was full even on a weekday night. When you first enter you feel like you've been teleported out of Old Bridge into a different world. The vibe of the decor is matched with stellar service, both on entering and at the table. The presentation of the drinks and food is memorable. Flames and smoke are abundant in the presentations and watching dishes and drinks get served provides live entertainment! It definitely creates a lot of "oohs and aahs" and brings out a lot of smartphone cameras. We had a salad and a stuffed poblano to start. Both were very tasty and nicely presented. We accompanied the starters with 2 cocktails - both very good and uniquely served. Our entrees were a seafood special, skirt steak w/chimmichurri and a side of carrots. The seafood was good although at $69 the mix could have featured fewer clams and better parts of the lobster. I looked back at my old review of their other restaurant, 618, and was surprised that I had also had the skirt steak there. My reaction was the same - it was well cooked but not spectacular. My son ate the leftovers and he concurred - not as good as what I buy at Tuscany and throw on the grill. The carrots were the star of the show - enough butter to probably knock a year off your life but worth it! Mezcal is worth trying due to the amazing atmosphere, service and menu. The food is generally good but in my opinion the price point demands that it be truly craveable and here I felt it was a bit short. read more

The cocktail ideas were clever and were tasty but my drink was served in an opaque ceramic mug, very cool looking but clearly designed to hide the fact that there was more ice in it than actual alcohol. Steak was unseasoned and overcooked. The staff were excellent. Very friendly, very accommodating, very attentive. I don't mind paying a lot for a quality dining experience but this is not that. This is the first time I wish I would have been able to give 6 stars! I've heard about this place from multiple people, and everyone was singing very different praises. So finally, I gave in and got a dinner reservation on Sunday early afternoon. Yes, this place does requires a reservation for a dinner, but I specifically confirmed that it is possible to come and sit at the bar, and the line may not exist at all: there were more than 10 seats available that I could see. Bar does has this fake fire that most people take pictures off, should be fun. Arrived, got pleasantly surprised by the first lobby room, even took some pictures. We were about 10 minutes early, so I was completely prepared to wait or seat at the bar, instead hostess spent some time with us showing around, the bull, tequila storage (that's how I call it), different parts of the dining hall, everything. She even suggested that we do pay a visit to the restrooms, even just to check them out. Table was ready, plenty of distance from others, music just a notch too loud, but completely fine. Our server, Nick from Serbia, seemed to know every dish and drink and was able to answer all the questions. We went for the full tower of seafood, and received octopus as a compliment. Let's just say octopus was gone before anything was touched on the tower. I would come back just to have a cocktail at the bar and have that leg once again. Seafood was amazing, I loved the gigantic shrimp and oysters, my girl was in love with the crab salad setup on top of the tower. Also I got to mention those small medicine-like bottles with vinegar and sauce: you drop just the perfect amount and crack few jokes while doing so. We did order several round of drinks, the only mistake is that we did not order bull carafe first, and that drink is more of a starter. The smoked skull comes with a little fire show, and pistachios thing is one drink I specifically remember. For the main course I decided on a porkchop, having had tomahawk just few days ago: else I would go for prehistoric choice; Im still panning a come back for it. And my girl went for some grilled fish. Her dish was everything you'd expect from a fish in a great restaurant. Mine was able to surprise me. It was slightly different cut than I expected, and I think its a better choice. Cooked throughout, but not overcooked, served at a perfect temperature, and with several sauces on the plate, I had to eat every last bit, even knowing that it will cost me the desert. I'd say this was in the top 2 pork dishes that I ever had in a restaurant. An important note is that you have to order your own side dish, we had those mini cauliflower things, and were not disappointed at all. Having consumed all that there was no room left for deserts, so I recommend splitting that tower for a table of 4, or just sticking to 1 normal-sized app. Else you will have to take desert to go, which was a perfect ending for the night. I will be back, not sure if it would be a dinner or just bar visit; but this restaurant leaves long lasting impression for your eyes, ears and stomach. Don't forget to tip waiters: this is a very rare restaurant where I did not see staff looking at their phones. read more

Had an absolutely awesome experience at Mezcal. From the second you walk in the door the place just has a great vibe -- awesome atmosphere, great music, and a really cool energy all around. The drinks were excellent and the appetizers were great, but the porterhouse steak completely stole the show. Hands down the best steak I've ever had. Cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We finished the night with gelato that was honestly unbelievable and the perfect way to end the meal. What really made the night though was the staff. Everyone was incredible and you can tell they really care about the experience they're giving people. Huge shoutout to our bartender Heather, our waitress April, and manager Alessandro who stopped by the table to make sure everything was perfect. That kind of service really makes the whole night even better. The owners are great people and it clearly shows in the place they've built. Mezcal is truly a 10/10 and I highly recommend it. All the reviews I've seen have been so positive that we were sure we were in for a treat. We were wrong We had the octopus which was fine. Nothing special. The pork tacos were good but teeny tiny and the crab cakes were dry and the sauce tasted like regular tartar sauce For the main entree I had the lobster risotto which was very loose, not cooked down. The lobster was overcooked and I had a hard time pulling it out of the shell. Hubby had the halibut which was kind of dry but tasty. The atmosphere, reception, service and drinks were awesome but the food was very disappointing for being so expensive. We probably will not be returning. read more

Mezcal was an absolute dream! The food was delicious. The skirt steak melted in your mouth. There were so many different sauce options. I got the chimichurri as well as the cowboy butter. Every single side was absolutely delicious. The Mexican corn was off the cob and so easy to eat and so much flavor. We also got a chocolate stuffed churro topped with banana ice cream for dessert it was incredible. Our server Matt was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made our dining experience memorable. We had gone out to dinner for my friend's engagement and the manager had come over with complimentary tequila shots for everyone. Such a generous surprise. The restaurant has dim lighting and beautiful art on the walls, even the bar provides a dining experience. Visited Mezcal on a Saturday late afternoon to celebrate my birthday and anniversary. When we arrived we were greeted by the host, AnnMarie (i believe), who offered to give us a tour of the place! We saw the really nice decor, wide selection of premium tequila bottles, and really dope bar that has an open flame surrounding it. The food was phenomenal! For starters - we ordered the GUACAMOLE WITH 3 SALSAS with Jumbo Lump Crab Louie - great pairing of flavors, and the BEEF TENDERLOIN TARTARE. For entrees - we got the A5 JAPANESE WAGYU and 10OZ SPINALIS RIBEYE CAP STEAK which were both flavorful and tender. For Dessert I got the frozen expresso martini! The service was amazing! Our sever, Ryan was super friendly and attentive. He suggested popular dishes, and drinks, which were great! He overheard that I planned to stop by a pizza spot to get food for my kids. At the end of the evening he brought out two take home platters from the kids meal on the house. The host, AnnMarie, also gave us a handwritten note/scroll to congratulate us on our anniversary. Came there to enjoy a nice evening and was met with honestly one of the most overrated food experiences I've ever had. The prices are horrendously high, the food quality is horrendously low, and besides a few razzle dazzle drinks, I can't say much was all that exciting for a $500 bill. The steaks had no seasoning whatsoever (why ask for medium rare when everything comes out medium well?), lobster risotto was absolutely flavorless and still had the "poop shoot" line across the back of the lobster, guys this is simple cooking here, not 500$ and up cooking. The inside is nice, sure, but it feels like the owners spent more time on "wow" than they did actual good food. I mean even our Lobster tower had prefrozen shrimp, a 135$ seafood tower with frozen ingredients? What a low effort try. 618 has had their ups and downs with foods, and clearly they passed the down chefs to this location. I have no idea why it's so hard to get in here but when people eventually realize this is a massive flop and waste of money, Mezcal will not have repeat customers. Please work on serving actual good food instead of having an inexperienced, money driven, chef prepare foods like a hotel buffet. read more
