The term "Mediterranean Chipotle" is a gross understatement. The freshness of ingredients here at Mezeh rivals that of no lunch option in Crystal City and should be talked about in the same breath of the high end restaurants in the area. In the few weeks that Mezeh has been open I have visited 5 times (don't judge me) as well as had the privilege to test out their new catering options. Each visit has been a test of new ingredient and combinations along with the staff really listening to the customers request and concerns (eggplant topping was changed from large chunks to manageable slices). If you're looking for a fresh new lunch spot to get a fantastic meal and a cane sugar soda or one of the many wonderful iced tea selections for under $10 and you haven't checked out Mezeh yet, you're missing out. Now to the catering. Anyone that has worked in this area knows that the same thing week in and week out can be boring, and Mezeh catering adds an affordable and delicious option to the rotation of caters lunch. Pita wraps cut in half provide a great serving size along with pita chips and hummus available as an affordable side, and lets face it, everyone loves hummus except that one guy in your office nobody likes anyways. Rewards system is app based. I rather have it phone number based because I have too many apps as it is, but such is a minor inconvenience to receive 10% back in rewards. Very similar to Cava however I think the portion sizes here are much larger. Especially since there are no limitations to the amount of toppings, dips, or sauces you can have. I ordered the chicken shawarma which was absolutely fantastic. The chicken was tender and excellently seasoned. I also liked how they don't skimp on the rice/salad when you get the mix in your bowl. Their spicy feta is way better than Cava's version! The only issue I had was the customer service. The lady who was making my bowl wasn't very friendly. No smiles and looked annoyed when I would ask questions. It was obviously my first time and she didn't really help me through what everything was. Mezeh is like a Chipotle for Mediterranean food. It has a plethora of options and always moves you quickly through the line. The staff is nice and always puts aside projects to work the line so you aren't waiting a long time. They have a few soy-free options and some great vegan options. Soy-free bases are mixed bowls and rice bowls (but don't eat the pita that comes with it). You can also get the wrap which doesn't have soy. I've only tried the falafel since I'm vegan, but it should be safe as well as the tahini sauce. The toppings section is mixed with more soy than I expected, but you can still make a delicious dish. This is one of my staples and a quick go-to when in a hurry. UPDATE: it sounds like the falafel now has soy derivates. Double check when you order. You can usually find parking out front or there is a parking garage by the Buffalo BBQ place. It is usually free during the evenings. read more

This is another restaurant popping up in Chipotle style delivery. Except better. The decor is awesome. I love the orange/wood color combination. We went in for lunch, and it was a long line, but they were efficient at getting people through. I ordered a rice bowl chicken schwarma, my husband a falafel pita. The chicken had a great kick to it, and I was soothed from the spice by a great tziki sauce. My husband's falafel was creamy, almost potato texture. The toppings are great and more plentiful/fresh than Chipotle. The rice bowl made up two servings for myself, so I enjoyed the meal as lunch the next day. Not bad. It's almost identical to Roti in its offerings, but that's not a bad thing. They seem to really push their house drinks, which are like healthy tasting vegetable juices. I wasn't a big fan of any of them but I thought it was cool they encourage you to sample them. I ordered the rice bowl with spicy lamb kofte. On top I got spicy hummus, cous cous, and tabbouleh. The sauces they offer are, again, nearly identical to what Roti offers. I think their sauces could use some work, but their rice is much better than Roti's. This was my third time I was visiting restaurant in the past 6 months. I ordered 'green bowl' with arugula. Beyond that, the usual toppings. Paid for the meal sat down and about my last scoop I notice a "black bug" which after researching it, it was a "flea beetle". I approached the counter and asked for the manager. The manager sees the bug and tells me "ahh this is normal, arugula does at times come with it". I was in TOTAL SHOCK. Her nonchalance was beyond me. She told me that she would reimburse my meal. I told her that I did not want that. I took many pictures including the personal and will report this restaurant to the "Arlington environmental health dept of Virginia. Wow what a find in Crystal City! My husband and I were walking around on a Sunday afternoon looking for a lunch spot. We had originally decided to go to Jimmy John's but then I saw Mezeh on yelp so decided to give it a try. Everyone is right by comparing it to Chipotle, it's literally the same concept. I got a brown rice bowl with chicken shawarma and it was so so good! I found Mezeh to be far more generous with the toppings than chipotle or Roti and it was a great deal. I got the Turkish salad, couscous and spicy hummus as my main 3 along with a lot of other toppings. The portion was huge and neither of us came close to finishing ours. Decided to eat here since I was staying at a hotel nearby. It was less than 10 mins walk from the many hotel complexes. Since it was my first time here I was pretty unsure what to get, but everything looked so good. Bae and I got the mixed bowl and he got steak ($2 extra) and I got the chicken shawarma. I got a kale base and a BUNCH of toppings. Since I was unsure of what to even get, I asked the employee making my bowl what his favorites were and he helped me select. They also have sauces at the end, but I got mine on the side just to try out. The food was delicious and it felt fresh and clean. Not like if you eat at Chipotle/Qdoba. You also get a slice of pita on the side and I made my own DIY pita pocket sandwich out of it and had more than half of my bowl left over. I can not recommend you enough to try out Mezeh. The ingredients are fresh, flavorful, and you can get as much as you want, aside from proteins. The Hits -- Food, value, customer service, cleanliness. The food you can not go wrong. You design your own rice or salad bowl. I usually get the rice with their chicken schawarma. The chicken is beautifully cooked. It seasoned really well, moist but still had a crunchy exterior. All their add ins are beautifully cooked or seasoned as well. The food is just overall fresh. Your value won't be beat. because you can get as many scoops, or any amount of topping you like (excluding protein) you won't leave hungry. The average ticket is close to $10, which is a steal for DC. Customer service is good but not superb. I've had a few visits to where they aren't exactly warm, but that's okay. They'll help you with the menu and designing your bowl. Cleanliness is great. I've never had an issue with a dirty floor, tables, or silverware. Everything has been kept up pretty good. I was staying at the Renaissance for a work conference, and wanted somewhere quick and healthy for lunch. I stumbled upon Mezeh and instantly fell in love. Think Chipotle meets Mediterranean. You can choose from a bowl (greens or grains), pita sandwich or flatbread wrap. They have a fantastic selection of meat and non meat toppings including schwarma, falafel, kebab and lamb. The vegetable toppings caramelized eggplant, three different hummus types, tabbouleh, roasted vegetables and so much more. They have sauces as well to add on at the end (get the harissa!) Even more exciting is the array of fresh juices (no sugar added!) My only complaint is that we don't have a Mezeh in Indianapolis! read more

Oh, man, another assembly-line restaurant? What do we even call this anymore? Lebanese Subway? Turkish Chipotle? Hipster halal? I call it... yum. Yeah, despite myself. Despite not trusting a bowl full of ingredients from a plethora of countries, Middle Eastern and local (isn't quinoa Peruvian?), it all came together. But the key to that is you. If you have no taste, you may not fare so well here - I don't think they have pre-organized options, it's all build your own. I did a grain bowl with bulgur and chicken shwarma, and that was a great base for the variety of eggplant, feta, and other toppings. (Make sure you watch, lest they pick the wrong topping, which they did, but it was also one I wanted.) They even threw in a free falafel! (The falafel was just okay. If you're vegetarian, be warned.) This is a seemingly healthier alternative to some of the other similarly-styled chains, and the only Mediterranean variety I've walked into. Though not a fan of it in this case as I feel it detracts from authenticity, especially with some of the possible ingredients being decidedly American in nature, you can get a great meal if you try. I took my food to go, so I cannot speak to the "dine in" experience. Now on to the food. It is set up in the same manner as Chipotle, Cava, etc. which I love because I can design my meal just the way I like it. I got a Rice and Salad Combo which consisted of kale and brown rice. For my protein, I chose chicken swarma... so good... They also had plenty of additional toppings that made a food lover like myself jump for joy! The price of their bowls are very affordable.
