Hear me out: This place is overlooked--not because the food is lacking, but because it's surrounded by so many fast-food chicken spots. We were dying for something different and decided to give Mezeh a shot. We originally headed to Cava (its popular "big brother"), but they were closing, out of almost everything, and just didn't seem worth it. Mezeh was the complete opposite! The staff was incredibly friendly and excited to serve us, even though it was later in the evening. I loved my Build Your Own (BYO) bowl. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the best part was that I didn't feel like a "stuffed piñata" afterward. It's a healthy, satisfying alternative to all the fried chicken in this area. The only minor "issue" is that their pita bread isn't quite on the same level as Cava's. However, the pita is just an add-on and not the star of the show, so it didn't take away from the experience. I am a regular here and have always been very happy with the service! Everyone is so kind and the food is well made and very consistent. One thing that tends to be hit or miss is the side pita. A few times it seems to be a tad underbaked. I highly recommend the lemon garlic sauce! read more

I've lived in this area for years and have frequented this location too many times to count; both in person and via a food delivery service. Today (6/16) I was horrified. Nearly finished my bowl when I saw something odd on the fork with the food. I dumped food off the fork to look at it closer. It was some sort of bug in a bite I was about to eat. I was disgusted and felt sick when I saw that. The food here is always good (the pitas are hit or miss) and it's convenient. I am disappointed and I don't trust the food. Was in the mood to check Mezeh a few weeks ago and have come back a couple times since. This place reminds me of Chipotle but more Mediterranean food and a lot more options to choose from. The space is huge inside. It's always been pretty empty whenever I've come to get lunch here but the staff are friendly and helpful. I've built my own bowls, each time a little different depending what I felt like trying. I love their eggplant and the different sauces they have available. My bowl can get packed with all the ingredients I add and it has so much good flavor. The portion size is great when you add a lot to it. I went to this place because I friend recommended and I had high expectations, but when I got there it was totally a different atmosphere than what I was expecting and described, employees were treating costumers poorly, that from my perspective it would make it appear as if they are not being paid well and are taking it out on their customers. I understand that is frustrating to not get paid but they shouldn't take out on other people that just goes in to have a meal and a good time. They treat the food with anger! I think Mezeh and I just simply have a love/hate relationship. I've gone through a rollercoaster of ups and downs with the Annapolis location. I got to attend an Elite event at the National Harbor location which was great. Not to mention, Mezeh is a popular vendor at Yelp parties. I was excited about having a location closer to home but my recent experience was pretty mediocre. The service seemed to be all over the place. It didn't seem to flow properly. For those unfamiliar, Mezeh is like a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. You state that you'd like a bowl, wrap, salad, etc. and you go down the line adding things to it. When it was my turn to order, there was no one there to get me started as the other employees were helping other customers at the end of the line near the cashier. The available employee began working on an online order so I stood there awkwardly for a few minutes until someone finally came to get me started. Then as I was picking my toppings, a few things were empty that had to be replenished as they were making my bowl. During checkout, the cashier was too preoccupied trying to assist me and another customer at the same time which just seemed a little more chaotic than it needed to be. As for the food, it's still pretty good and I love that you can get limitless toppings on your items of choice. I certainly loaded mine up. I got a rice bowl with chicken shawarma and allllll the things. I think the main issue is the service. If that tightens up and is a little more efficient, it would be great. Walking into Mezeh for a quick bite, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but had a great experience. To give a quick overlook, Mezeh feels like a slightly elevated version of CAVA Mediterranean Grill - it offers a Chipotle-style of ordering where you walk through a bar and select what you want to add from their large array of options. I got greens/rice as the base + shredded lamb + tons of toppings and sauces. The lamb was cooked extremely well and it was tender, flavorful, and delicious. All of the toppings were pretty impressive as well. They didn't feel like negligible add-ons, but each one had its own unique palette of flavors that added to the dish. The only "downside" I could think of was that including tip, the bowl came out to be $17 which feels relatively steep given the casual nature of a restaurant like this, but for the amount of lamb I got, I still feel like I got my money's worth. You can literally stop and eat the rainbow when it comes to food options at Mezeh!!! I love when casual fast food can be as quick as it is healthy you can never go wrong. While you are not limited to a bowl, that is typically me go to because it allows me to get not only my greens and grains in but it makes it easier to get all my toppings in. My choices are spinach and basamati rice, chicken schwarma for my protein and a heaping load of toppings such as crumbled feta, spicy feta, cucumbers, pickled onions and tomatoes. I like a little dressing on my bowl so I went with the vinaigrette. My visit would be remissed if I did not get one of their lovely crafted juices and my taste buds were screaming for the Peachy Lemon Watermelon which was a nice ode to the transition from spring to summer. The taste was so refreshing and crisp. On and you need, matter of fact is should be mandatory that you get a cookie to round out your visit. The cookie I had was a mix between a sugar, snickerdoodle chocolate chip base (without the chips) with a hint of toffee, purely amazing!!! The location is rather large and offers table seating and high top seating so you can dine low or high. Plus when the weather is nice you can sit outside in their gated and lighted area. I am so happy there is a location here in Waugh Chapel not too far from my house. The best way to describe Mezeh is the Mediterranean version of Chipolte with more selections. I typically order the grain bowl with kale and brown rice. My meat of choice is typically lamb but the lamb it okay here, the chicken shawarma is the way to go, it is delicious and perfectly seasoned. The toppings can be a bit overwhelming a plethora of hummus and vegetables to pick from, I love the spicy hummus, roasted corn, and olives. The fresh bread that comes with the bowl is amazing, so soft and perfect to dip into your bowl. The price point is reasonable, usually about $8-$10. I save my bowl for the next day because of the portions. I recommend downloading the level up or Mezeh app if you frequent this restaurant. After about 6-8 bowls you earn $8 off. read more

Not happy at all- we have not been here in a long time- this visit was unacceptable; didnt have issues in the past. Writing a review to hope this location isnt going downhill. Based on the reviews I see here - being reasonable with portions isnt an issue with this location- but the bowl we got yesterday was an absolute joke. The employee - was literally slowly scooping each item and ever so carefully making sure not to give too much. Either the staff working didnt want to have to prep food often for the day or management is telling them to ever so gently and carefully not give a customer too much food now. Ive never seen such crazy deliberate skimping before whether it is CAVA, or Chipotle or other Mezeh locations or even the previous times we have been here. My family member started to order first. The employee grabbed the bowl and literally put 6 pieces of lettuce in there and then the chicken he slowly scooped the tiniest amount and put it in. It was the oddest thing. Same thing for all the toppings- like making sure every scoop was never too much. After seeing that - another employee asked me if "I wanted to order anything"- I said NO. Andddd she's back again! When it comes to a hearty, filling and vegetable-filled meal, no one in the area can beat Mezeh, taste and price wise. Last time, I didn't get a chance to go into the biz because of curbside pick-up, but I was happy with what I saw on my return. They had signs all over about staying six feet a part, whether in line or when seated at tables. Right when you walk in, you can find an area for pick-up orders, so that you can grab yours and go. I've been to four different Mezehs across the DMV and they never fail to amaze me with their beautiful and thoughtful decor. [Coronavirus review] Open during corona, and with a smooth app ordering process and the option for curbside takeout. A family was eating on a table outside (hopefully future readers won't get this, but right now, people eating at a table outside of a restaurant is unheard of), but the policeman stopping in for his bowl didn't have anything to say about it, and I'm not against it either. It's been five years or so since I've eaten at a Mezeh. I've been traveling, but I also had decided I didn't like them that much. They've expanded considerably so they must be doing something right. From my perspective, I see significant improvement in the range of choices from what I remember. The falafel was missing the whole beans I remember it for, and is fine but fairly standard. They let you choose up to four base items in a bowl, and have many options for greens, and up to twelve (!) toppings, including several varieties of hummus and cheese as well as vegetables. The skhug sauce I added was legitimately spicy. You can really customize. It was a good bowl, and when I walked in, they asked my name and moved me up the order queue, which I appreciate. On the downside, I'm not sure I got all twelve toppings; notably I couldn't see any berries or sunflower seeds. I have some significant special diet notes: Mezeh's website has a thorough and snazzy-looking section with ingredients, nutritional values, and special diet marking. The veggie kefta I tried apparently have some egg in them, and while the labels correctly denote this as vegetarian, the blurb next to them uses the word vegan, which is wrong. So, if I were Mezeh, I'd fix this in the short term, and in the long term I'd consider making veggie balls for the many people who can't eat egg (I don't strictly exclude egg, and I couldn't taste it if it was present). The other thing I learned from their site is that the sauces and the rice have a lot of oil, so check nutritional values; it's healthy fat but it's a lot of calories. However, I don't want to mark them down; overall the fact that they have thorough information available will help us consumers make choices. I end up with a kind of 3.5-ish rating, but having been to a lot of places that don't have a convenient fast casual option with support for all dietary needs, I'm feeling generous. read more

Mezeh Mezeh Mezeh! The location is gorgeous. The interior is as clean as it looks. This a conveyor belt style fast casual restaurant. I got a grain bowl with lamb Kefta. The lamb was definitely my FIX. I have tasted such a delicious veggie combo in such a while. I took a risk and got carrot. I usually don't eat carrot with anything cream based but the sauces went well with everything. I will definitely be visiting Mezeh's other locations in the near future. read more

Yum. One word review. Just, yum. This has been a great treasure in Waugh Chapel, and a welcome addition to the sadly missed Fuji location that used to be here. (Don't worry, their larger site in WC South is still in full swing). If you've never been before, think of it as a Cava experience. Or, Chipotle but for Mediterranean food. You can get a bowl or wrap, then add in whatever ingredients they have available, most of them themed to the Medi cuisine. Feta cheese, olives, tabouleh, couscous, falafel, etc. So far, everything I've tried has been wonderful. Special mention to the spicy feta dip (pretty spicy!), the lemon garlic dressing (super garlicky spicy, too!), and the chicken shawarma. The service has been fast and friendly thus far, and the interior is always very clean. I like that they don't have soda, but various fruit waters and teas (basically agua fresca, but more flavorful). This just became my new go-to in Waugh Chapel. I came here the other day for a quick lunch and was so impressed! I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. All of the ingredient were very fresh and flavorful! The meal was very healthy and you can tell that they do not coat their ingredient with oil or butter, which is really nice. They also have a wide array of toppings and dressings. I also appreciate the two different falafel options (one is vegetable based). As a vegetarian, you can mix things up with the various ingredients, so it does not feel like you are always ordering the same thing. Why is location so much slower than the one in Annapolis? I brought my partner here for the first time and the food was the only ONLY saving grace. I'm not sure if the employees knew we were there but the chain of communication was almost non existent. One person playing and ringing - definitely tough. Upgrading my review of Mezeh. I have been a few times since my last visit and the drinks are now stocked. This is a great place to eat healthy or vegetarian. There's lean protein options and lots of vegetable options to add to your bowls or wraps. I still stick to the falafel and I love their cilantro and plain hummus. read more
