We tried this place during the Taste of Virginia food "festival" last weekend. It was okay. We decided to try it out in person to compare it to Cava and they've definitely converted me! Much improved over the festival bowls. The sauces are better, and you don't have to choose only 3 options, you can pretty much go wild with your hummus/cheeses. Their spicy feta is better and it just seems like everything is a little fresher and more plentiful than Cava. I also dug the electro-middle-eastern music. I would say that the Chicken Kebob was a little tough to eat for my toddler but for a child/adult it'd be fine. We'll be returning and making this our go-to rice bowl spot. read more

The chicken is hands down the juiciest piece of chicken breast I have ever gotten from a fast casual OR fine dining restaurant. This place is lightyears better than Chipotle. Yeah, I said it. I believe that I've found my new favorite place. I can't believe that I didn't come here sooner. It only pains me that I came up with this concept years ago, but lack the resources at the moment to create a restaurant of my own. Regardless, Mezeh is delicious. The fountain drinks are neither Pepsi or Coke, and because I have adult taste buds, I enjoy the cucumber-mint drink although my boyfriend and daughter thinks it's disgusting. A welcomed "chain" in the over-saturated chain hell that is Short Pump! I was pretty excited to try this place out. We live in Powhatan and unless we feel like making the drive into the city we're typically stuck with Midlothian and Short Pump as dining options. That usually means chains and "good" options (IMO) are slim. Soo...thank you, Mezeh! This is a casual, order to your liking, "chipotle style" restaurant. You walk up to the food bar and tell them what you'd like. My husband and I both did rice bowls. (You can also do salad bowls, half salad/half rice bowls and pitas). You can select white or brown rice then get the option off adding up to 8 toppings. These toppings range from chicken and pork to hummus, eggplant caponata, beets, pickled red cabbage, quinoa, roasted corn, and the list goes on and on! I love the variety and selection. I love how simple it is to order and how quick and I love the fresh ingredients and healthy meal. It was about $21 for two rice bowls, tax and everything. Neither of us could finish our servings! FYI, they also do Catering and Take-out (online). Great for vegan/vegetarians, though I'm neither. read more

A little disappointed that after doing an in-person order that Mezeh employees did a poor job of keeping the line socially distanced because of the way they served customers. We had waited a while because of a very large group in front of us. When we were finally served, one employee allowed the customer behind us to move ahead. I was very surprised as he was clearly behind us. I then let the customer go in front of us but it was quite exasparating. If Mezeh wants to keep its good customers, they need to step up their indoor service and process. Food is always good and I would like to see them succeed. read more

The food is excellent- fresh and amazing ingredients. I absolutely loved the mix of Kale and brown rice with falafel I had in my bowl. The service was very quick. I also really love the decor. It's bright, open and colorful yet also calming. It made me want to go somewhere like morocco- it has that style and flare. My only hang up about this location is that the music is really loud. It was really over the top and difficult to hold a conversation with friends over the volume. I also personally didn't enjoy the specialty juices and sodas, but that's just me! Seriously it's Mediterranean Chipotle! Mezzeh takes the custom bowl/burrito/salad idea and shakes it up a bit with a Mediterranean flair (rice bowl/salad bowl/pita pocket) and includes kebab chicken, lamb, and middle eastern flavor selections in the addons. Food xenophobes fear not, it's the same methodology as Chipotle--pick your "container," pick your protein, pick your veggies/addons. I go for kebab chicken or steak usually with quinoa salad, cucumber, corn, a touch of hummus, and pickled onions topped with tzatziki sauce (Greek yogurt based mild sauce). It's wonderful. The pickled onions add a level of spicy to the dish that compliments everything well. They offer some bold beverage choices that I haven't been able to wrap my head around -- "jalapeño cranberry orange?" I usually go for iced tea or the Boylans brand cane sugar soda available on tap. It's a change from many of the chains at short pump and a worthy culinary addition to the "better than fast food" options in the area. read more

We have been to their Charlottesville location several times and I am happy to announce that there is very little that is different here in Short Pump. The location is a bit concerning as it is literally BEHIND another recently opened restaurant in the area which will remain unnamed, but for Mediterranean eats, this place is the real deal. Think Chipotle (I know they probably hate the analogy) but MUCH fresher, and much more to choose from. Rice bowls are the specialty, with your choice of protein chicken, steak, lamb, beef meatballs), but the falafel here is probably some of the best in town, so feel free to go veggie. And if you go veggie, you'll probably eat what is in your bowl for days. Anything that looks good tastes good, and everything looks good. Happily, you really aren't limited either, if you want to try something, just let them know. Literally two dozen or more veggie choices, hummus...sauces...You get the idea. Lots of choices for allergy sufferers or vegan folks. You can also make anything into a pita or flatbread. The interior is an open and airy welcoming space, very inviting for lunch groups, surprising given the original spot's closed in design and limited square footage area when it was first built. They keep it quite clean, but be mindful of the heavy ceramic bowls and drink glasses you'll use for the Boylan sodas (on draft) and incredible house juices and teas they have. You'll want to try everything, much like the food. So stack your used dishes carefully, or let a staff member do it. I know the glut of Short Pump food choices will soon be a war of attrition, but I think Mezeh has what it takes to be a long-time player here, offering the creative and adventurous a reasonably priced place to explore the limits of their palates and to possibly find another ethnicity of food to call their own. I also recommend downloading their phone app so that you can get a $3.00 credit before you even take your first bite, and then you can eat even cheaper with the rewards that you will potentially earn. Found this place on Yep and decided to give it a try. The decor reminds you of Chipotle except it's much nicer. Very clean and organized. I couldn't decide what protein to order and they were kind enough to let me sample. I ended up ordering the chicken shawarma flatbread. It was like a burrito. It was delicious. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Best fast food place place I've been to since being back in Virginia. The fountain drinks are Boylan, which I have never seen in a restaurant. Chipotle for Mediterranean food. The food was decent, although I was surprised how spicy the chicken was. The line was long at lunch, but moved quickly. I was recently in Austin, TX and had a very similar type of experience with another of these type of restaurants but under a different franchise name. These "work your way down the line" type of restaurants seem to be popping up all over for different cuisines. There is a Korean version (Zzaam) in Carytown.
