I came here for the Check in to Check Out Yelp Elite event where you got a complimentary shawarma bowl if you bought a drink. I came here hungry and rejuvenated after my workout and was pleasantly surprised by the bright orange Mezeh sign welcoming me into a well lit interior. The eatery was not crowded and there wasnt a significant line which i was grateful for. I opted for the spicy chicken shawarma bowl with half greens and half brown rice. For toppings, I got the roasted vegetable, roasted corn, cilantro hummus, baba ghanoush and taziki sauce. The bowl comes with a pita. I asked the friendly check-out employee what his favorite fresh drink is and he said he liked the kale and cucumber drink and the papaya lemon drink. I was feelin a little extra (hungry) tonight so i got a chocolate chip cookie for dessert also. They had to give me the warm cookie out the oven cuz some guy came before me and snagged 50 cookies off the counter. Well, random cookie monster, thanks to you i got a hot out the oven choco chip cookie which i prefer anyways! I got the kale drink and wasnt disappointed. The meal was absolutely delicious and i will definetly be visiting again. My favorite was the baba ghanoush which was quite authentic tasting and the chicken was also very tender and yummy. I think my only complain is that the basmati brown rice was a bit on the rougher side. I want to start out and say that I really wanted to like this place. I am from out of town and here in Springfield VA on a work trip. Since I don't have a car, I ordered Mezeh from Uber eats. My food arrived promptly however, my order was all wrong. The receipt that came on the bag was exactly what I ordered but we were missing a few items and they gave me some other side (spicy feta; I ordered hummus). My extra two pieces of pita bread were missing as well. But here is the worst part. THERE WAS A BUG IN MY FOOD. I had eaten a few bites and then out of nowhere, there it was. I gave this place an extra star, because when I called to ask about the other half of my order, the man who answered was super sweet and said he would gladly replace my meal, but that I would have to come in. Mezeh is pretty similar to Cava but I definitely prefer Mezeh due to their wide selection of toppings and proteins. I loved the chicken swarms bowl with white rice and mixed greens. There are so many toppings to choose from, and I especially love the Turkish salad and caramelized eggplant! Their house drink choices are great too. The tropical kale cucumber is refreshing, and the papaya lemon lime has a nice kick! The layout was spacious and clean, and the staff was helpful and patient while I was choosing what to get. I think I like Mezeh better than Cava, even though they're pretty similar. I came here with my husband and daughter after running errands near the mall. This is a little down the road from there in an older shopping center. If you're only in Springfield for the mall, I don't picture you coming by here, but for the locals, it's a good option. I am super extra and didn't know if the dressings would be tasty or not, so i asked for 3 on the side, the tahini (it was ok), the shug (it was red, which i didnt expect b./c i am used to shug being green, but i didnt love it, its vinegary and spicy if that's your thing), and the tzatzki (SOOOOO good! that fresh dill, omg! totally hit the spot) So now that you know how to top it, what about what comes under all that tzatzki goodness? well, the good news: the sky is the limit b/c its literally unlimited toppings! my faves and not so faves: cilantro hummus (yum!) baba ghanosh (too smokey) spicy feta (yum) caramelized eggplant (yum) and you cant go wrong with fresh veggies also the pita bread is super fluffy and great and you can split the base btwn rice/ bulgar and salad, i love fresh spinach so that was a super plus for me. i had the chicken shwerma and it was delicious the only bummer was that i thought the juices would taste more fresh but they were all too sweet for me, the papaya/lemon juice had a picture of passionfruit on the side of it, but honestly, it tasted more passionfruit-y than papaya-y and was the yummiest of the juices (the kale cucumber was a close second). ALSO, one of my cousins once catered a dinner from mezeh and it was actually a huge hit and crowd pleaser, and now that i've seen the restaurant in person that makes even more sense, i feel like it will be a go-to place for my Ramadan catering needs. Mezeh does delicious Mediterranean meals! As you go up to order, you get to see the open kitchen and watch the staff skillfully prepare the ingredients. I grabbed some chicken shawarma over top of some rice in a bowl. I've seen others mix some greens into the base too. There are lots of options depending on what you're in the mood for. After the protein, you get to choose from the large list of toppings. Some locations limit you in the number that you can select, but this place lets you select as many as you want. I always like to throw some pickled items in there for contrast and some pita strips for some texture. Afterwards, you move onto the sauces. The tzatziki sauce is always a safe bet if you don't know what to get. The meal was absolutely delicious as you would expect. You definitely need to go visit this place yourself! read more

Yum yum yum!! This was my first time here And I was able to get a free bowl with a purchase of a drink for a yelp perk. I love how you can get a nice quick healthy bowl. It was a busy night but they were fast and efficient. I got a chicken shawarma bowl with white basmati rice, tsatziki all over, labanese tabboulleh and crumbled feta. They didn't skimp on anything! I got it to go and even a few hours later it still taste fresh and delicious. The flavors were all there and for people who like comparisons, I would say the meat here is definitely better than the meat at cava in taste AND looks. The bowl is big and VERY filling. Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness - 5/5 Although not a standout, this is a tasty fast-casual Mediterranean bowl restaurant. Basically, you choose a meat, grain (like rice or a salad mixture) and lots of different toppings (chicken/lamb/beef/pork/falafel.... and a whole host of sauces and veggies). They also have a soda machine that dispenses all sorts of unique soda flavors (an ever-growing trend to get us to ingest more sugar I guess). My wife also got the baklava and said it was good. While the food is good (if just a tad on the bland side), what really put this place over the top is the service. They quickly shuttled guests through the service line, the servers were very friendly (I overheard one of them sharing jokes with some returning guests) and the manager was circulating the dining room and engaging all of the customers. The place was crystal clean and tables were quickly cleaned once a guest left. You have to appreciate all the smiles and engagement, particularly when the tips are only what you leave at the register. Overall, a thumbs up (my wife says two thumbs up!). read more

I used to love coming here! The food is very good. Like a lot of the newer fast casual restaurants, they offer fresh and healthy food for a slight uptick in cost. If you've ever been to CAVA, you should have an idea of what you're going to get at Mezeh. The food itself is very good. The meat, rice, and assorted toppings are all very enjoyable and it's fun trying to figure out which combo of each you're going to like best. Once I figured out the exact configuration that was tastiest, it was the same thing I ordered during every visit. My issue, however, is not with the quality of the food itself. My issue is with the portions per the cost. They overcharge for their meat toppings, and they don't give you very much meat. The upgraded meat toppings, while tasty, are usually not worth the increase in price. I'm not a vegetarian. I'm not a vegan. If I don't come away from a dining experience feeling satisfied with the amount of meat I received, I'm going to develop a negative opinion of your restaurant. But meat is expensive, so I have to forgive them a little bit. What I can't forgive is how they skimp on the cheaper filler parts of the meal. Just as an example, the rice. I always (used to) order the rice bowl. Whenever I'd order it, I'd get a very meager serving of rice. Mezeh is sort of like Subway where you can ask for a little more of something if you want more of it. So I'd ask for more rice, and I'd get a pinch more. Then I'd have to ask them to add more, again. And they would add a small pinch more. Okay, if rice is really that valuable to you and it's not possible to offer the customer an appropriate amount in exchange for their money, then you must be stocking your kitchen with some very expensive rice. It's insulting when a restaurant pretends like they can't possibly afford to give you something you're paying for. I'm not asking you for much, I can see the size of the serving bowl and I can see that it's barely filled by the time I receive my food. I don't mind paying a little more for my meal when the quality of the food justifies it. Just don't take advantage of me by skimping me on basic stuff. read more

I got a bowl with: chicken shawarma, spinach, white basmati rice, Lebanese tabbouleh, roasted corn, spicy feta dip, spicy hummus, roasted vegetables, and Mediterranean olives. I didn't get any sauce, but honestly if you get a lot of toppings I don't think you don't need it (everything is so well-seasoned). Every. single. thing. was DELICIOUS. I was a little overwhelmed trying to figure out which toppings I wanted, but honestly, they were all good and I'll probably just mix it up every time I go in. The chicken shawarma was tender & juicy and had a nice spicy flavor. I loved the spicy feta dip. All of the toppings were so good I can't really pick a favorite but I will probably at least get the spicy feta dip, roasted corn, and olives again and then try some new ones. I also got the red birch beer to drink. It was very very good. I had the arugula, brown basmati rice, and a mix of the chicken shawarma and steak shawarma. For toppings I added the Israeli couscous, spicy feta, diced cucumber, spicy hummus, black olives, and pita croutons. My son got the white basmati rice, steak shawarma, and shredded lamb. The watermelon lemonade was very good. And so was the lemon lime soda. We topped it all off with a chocolate chip cookie. At checkout we met Patrick. He had a great joke for my son and was very kind and welcoming. My son's bowl was kinda light and he made sure he understood all the toppings to be sure he didn't want to add anything else. However, this Mezeh located on Old Keene Mill Rd in Springfield, VA is far and away #1. The cuisine is fresh and delicious; the establishment is always spotlessly clean. The driver of the success of this location is Chef Ome, who is a prime example of friendliness, professionalism, and he is a consummate master at his craft, especially his falafel. Bummed that my experience was so weirdly bad here because I love the Mezeh in Fair Oaks Mall! When I went here they were out of a lot of things. Out of mixed greens, steak, and lamb. A lot of people around me were having to change their order because they didn't have what they wanted. They seemed understaffed. A family of four was behind me, and the guy working at the front of the line with bases and meats kind of got stuck there with a backlog of our five bowls for a bit. There were two other employees running around, stocking things at the drink machine and looking frantic. It seemed like half the staff didn't show up for their shift or something. It was about 12:30 on a Sunday. Someone finally returned to help me complete my order. Luckily, they had everything I wanted. I will say I hadn't tried the sh'ug sauce, and their red version was way hotter than the green version I've had in the past. I sat down on one of the cushioned seats. The decor is nice and they even have one of those big glass garage doors that open to the outside. The bathroom was pumping loud Persian music (cool) and the toilet had pee in it (not as cool). Similar to the Chipotle and Cava style of service where you start with a base for the entree, then move down the line and choose your protein, toppings, and sauces. Before this experience, I was very pro Cava Mezze Grill. Although they are both Mediterranean, they are quite different in their offerings and seasonings. Mezeh's protein are very well seasoned, juicy, and great portion sized. I went with the Chicken Kabobs but I've heard lamb is good too. When it came to toppings, they have every kind of hummus you can imagine. Red pepper, spicy, regular, harissa. The biggest difference that Mezeh offers is eggplant as a topping. If you want you get big slices of eggplant that have been sautéed. I topped off my bowl is the sh'oug sauce. The sauce was definitely more spicy than the others but had a lot of great flavor. I thought Cava was great, but Mezeh is a strong competitor! You pay a base rate for what you want your entree to be (bowl, wrap, etc), and then like Cava you get to pick from a variety of toppings. Mezeh offers a lot more bases and toppings to chose from. Also, the maximum amount of toppings you're allowed is more than the amount given at Cava. The staff was friendly and the manager was pleasant. It's hard not to compare Mezeh to CAVA and Chipotle. But if you have been to those restaurants, it's a similar concept. There are a few difference that I noticed: proportion size and selection. I ordered a rice bowl and it came with a side of pita bread. My rice bowl included rice, mixed greens, chicken kebab, couscous, corn, steamed beets, classic hummus, picked turnips and two tzatziki sauces on the side. Yummy, right? Well it was yummy and fresh. I appreciated all the selections of toppings. There were over 30 options and they didn't limit me on what I could have. The downside was "I felt" my bowl was smaller than CAVA and that half size pita bread was a joke. Typically, those bowls are two servings for me, but I felt that was 1.5 servings. No big deal, right? It may matter for some that eat more. Overall, I enjoyed the flavors of my food. I would definitely go when I'm in Springfield again. It's like 5 minutes from the mall. read more

i ordered online today and when i came in 20 minutes after i had ordered, my order was not ready and i had to ask someone to make it for me, which isn't much of an issue to me just because i work in a restaurant and i know the online orders can get forgotten about very easily. then after i asked the lady to make it she started making my bowl, i watched her hold and read the ticket as she made my bowl, and gave me 3 toppings i didnt want in my bowl that i didnt order and that wasnt on the ticket and she gave me lemon garlic instead of harissa dressing even though it said that on the ticket as well. i had to point out all of the mistakes until i could have it remade for me. it was a little busy but it really doesn't make sense to me how someone could be reading off of a ticket and add 3 toppings i didnt ask for and give me a totally different dressing. definitely not a good experience. read more
