Rice had a heavy hand of butter and salt, which made it so tantalizingly delicious, we ate nearly all 4 mountains of rice! Lots of pita served too. Yogurt sides were good as well. My go to place to get Kabobs in Springfield. Honestly, the decor could be worked on and perhaps the tables/floors could be cleaner but I personally just go there for a quick meal and then leave. The service could be a hit or miss, but when ordering the staff knew what I wanted and they at least brought it out to the table. I will have to dock a point about the bread/sauce. Before the pandemic, the bread was made in house where it feels like now you just get pre portioned slices where it's just thin and dry. The tzatziki sauce is also in it's own container already premade. It's a bit watery but I suppose it gets the job done. I normally get the Moby Combo II which consists of Kubideh (Ground Beef), Joojeh (Chicken) and Rice. You get alot of rice if you opt to not have the salad, but a very big generous portion. I don't really have much to say other than it's very delicious and can make you feel bloated after eating. It's a lot of food for one person considering you're paying almost 20 bucks for it. The GM of the restaurant goes by Sam, he is the nicest and most hospitable manager of a restaurant establishment I've ever encountered. He remembers me every time I go and always goes above and beyond to make our experience great like it's our first time there. The food is top notch delicious, they don't use red dye food coloring in the chicken kabob like most other places do nowadays, the bread is fresh, and everything is always consistently great. They even make their own saffron iced tea which is so refreshing! The restaurant is always clean from behind the counter and dining area. Great food but poor customer service! The customer service continues to be quite bad. This is my second experience with that. I called and ordered over the phone at 6:55 PM and was told it would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later at 7:15 PM and was told the order should be ready soon. I waited and around 7:30 PM. I asked how much longer. The woman at the counter started talking to the other woman and then they started talking to the cooks in the back and five minutes later realized that they did not make my order and on top of that told me that they didn't have any salmon anyway. The fifth installment of my "Kabob Kompendium" profiling various joints in the DMV region that can be broken down into a set of common criteria: 1)ethnic focus 2) kabobs 3)side dishes 4)rice 5)condiments 6)bread 7)dining experience 8) unique dishes 9)x-factor(s). 1)Ethnic focus: Persian/Mediterranean An institution for fast-casual Persian since 1989 in the DMV region, this franchise continues to expand and make new legions of fans with previously limited exposure towards this type of cuisine. 2) Side dishes: one gets a charred tomato and a Greek salad which is not overly flavorful so for those not counting carbs, one has the option to double the rice and omit the salad. 3) Rice: fluffy basmati rice w/ a touch of saffron. The rice is a bit bland in terms of seasoning so a few good shakes of sumac or mixing in their spicy green sauce or yogurt sauce adds a much needed kick of flavor. I assume one can request the desirable crispy panfried rice at the bottom of the cooking vessel aka tahdig (sidebar: do you think if Taye Diggs dines out at a Persian restaurant, the staff is obligated to give him the tahdig?) since I was once presented with it without asking for it and it was crunchified deliciousness. 5) Condiments: a spicy tart jalapeno relish and a yogurt sauce similar to Indian raita that enhance the proteins but not as addictive as other places I've sampled. There are also pickled garlic cloves with Persian spices and finely diced pickled veggies with Persian spices for an additional surcharge. 6) Bread- ultra thin pita that is not particularly memorable in terms of mouthfeel or flavor, so if one is averse to rice, it functions merely as a pragmatic vehicle for grabbing on to the meats or sopping up sauces or stews. 7) Dining experience- fast casual and easy to call in to go orders either online or via phone, and they also have a mobile app which I have not tried out. 8) Unique dishes: Be sure to check their website for the weekly lunch specials highlighting an authentic Persian entree for each day of the week. They also have homemade and bottled Doogh (traditional yogurt drink), saffron ice cream, and kashk bademjan (a Persian cousin to baba ganoush) 9) X-factor: The casual dining atmosphere and the mixture of Persian/Mediterranean makes for an approachable lunch with coworkers or friends who are not adventurous enough to take the full plunge into Middle Eastern cuisine since kebabs and rice or falafel and gyros are less intimidating than a full-on Persian menu. It's lost some of the mom/pop feel due to its multi-site expansion and therefore an inevitable dip in quality control across each location, but one might argue it was and is the original gateway meal to feed into a deeper addiction towards the wide array of other "kabob kuisines" offered in the area. read more

Just a watered down white sauce that didn't function in the yogurt capacity so often seen in middle eastern food. The bread they served was so rock hard it almost broke my fathers tooth! The green chutney and the cucumber sauce were both the perfect compliments. We (my family) and I have ordered from here several times since the quarantine. And we all really like/love it. The chicken kabob is juicy and tender. The steak also really delish. We have always found the guy that works there to be super nice when we go in. My only minor complaint is that the bread is usually dry in the center. Almost as if the middle got overdone it's dry and crunchy on the middle section but warm and soft on the outer edges. But! I have discovered if you tear off the dry crunchy middle and pile their amazing rice on it for a few minutes. It softens up. read more

My wife and I have ordered probably 50 times from Moby Dick if not more at four different locations. This one is the worst. The person who picks up the phone needs to be trained better or replaced. It has always been a female voice. Not nice, not professional, not even saying goodbye. That would be fine if we get what we ordered. Worse though, typically Moby is great by giving tahdig and making sure the salmon is cooked well done. Last time, we did only get one bread, only one sauce (typically four) and it was not cooked well. Furthermore, they once did not have salmon and tried to make it our problem (ordered through door dash). I told them they had to cancel on their end which they did after a lot of back and forth. We never had any issues with other locations. This location management needs to look into. If service continues to be bad/unfriendly we just sadly have to stop ordering and Moby will lose a frequent customer. read more

This is hands down one of my favorite and most convenient Persian food locations on my monthly commute from Virginia Beach to Pittsburgh. There have many locations with consistent quality across all the DC beltway. The only improvement I would make to their menu is to offer more specialty Persian foods on the weekends - they typically just have one specialty dish per week day that I miss out on. Though missing the specialty meals is mildly disappointing, the consolidation prize is their delicious kabobs, stuffed grape leaves, baklava, and eggplant appetizers. I eat like a king for only ~$30 Tonight's meal is the mixed kabob combo, with half rice and half salad, stuffed grape leaves, eggplant, and and extra skewer of chicken. Chicken is historically dry for some reason. I miss the little cucumber salad condiment cups they used to provide. Worked great with the yogurt on the bread with the meat. Gotta love those "scorched earth" charred tomatoes they put in with your food. They're juicy but could use some basic seasoning. A good place for a quick/hearty meal with minimal frills. read more

Business replaced a small McDonald's location which had been in this spot several years earlier. Have been to this location 3x times since opened, on this visit, during a lunch-time special tried a basmati-rice / beef dish at $10.59. Overall it was disappointing, including burned segments piled on top of what is really a plate of just flavored rice. Definitely not worth the price; and sadly, the food quality at this location is going down. Meh. Eating here is now a fair-low experience. Very disappointed. Staff is not in tune with Persian cuisine. The rice today was 2 minutes from becoming mush. I called at 11am when they open as I usually do every Friday. I requested Tadic with my order. I informed them I would pick up around 1pm, Go to pay for my order and I am told there's no Tadic. I also always request raw onion with it. I used to come here at least once a week for the past 3+ years except for covid closed everything down. I used tor really enjoy the food because it was *freshly made*. I ordered food at 6pm today (10/30/21). I ordered a gyro platter and dolmeh and 2 other dishes. The lady misheard me and ordered 3 more dishes. Ok, so mistakes happen. I wasn't charged charged for the extra dish, but she did take it out and leave it under the warmer. I was horrified to discover how incredibly stale and old the dolmeh and gyro meat was. It's literally like they took old cooked meat and re-fried it again. These were leftovers. I paid full price for leftovers. And she must've known too because she told me, it was ready in 15 minutes and you came late. No, I told her. You told me 25-30 minutes and I came 25 minutes later. You served me old food. I bit into one dolmeh and spit it out because the rice was old. I turn the container over and it's got a sell by date of 10/28. Today is 10/30. I eventually got a full refund. However, it seems to me that this new management serves stale food, lies, and terrible customer service. read more

We always get three chicken kabobs with rice & salad and one lamb Kabob with rice. He meat is grilled to perfection and their basmati rice rock! Their house made hummus is the best. You dip your bread into the hummus and it's just delicious. I can have a small hummus with carrots and celery for a meal and I would be very content. :). Gave it one last chance. Ever since Moby Dick rebranded a couple years ago the food/service has not been the same at both locations. (Kingstown and Springfield) I was so excited when they opened the one in Springfield close to home but have not been impressed at all. At first I let it go since they were new in hopes it would get better. We went a few weeks ago and ordered to go only to get home and find meat very undercooked and pink. Went back today and asked for it to be cooked through and come home to very burnt meat. Sadly I think the days of being good to go Persian food are over.
