Marvin ripped us off! We were so naive when he told us that we need to replace the pump and that he will order the part for us, that we didn't even check how much the part should cost. Here is a picture of the rip off. (A pump cost around $350 online by the way). And if you can't figure out the writing, it's not a coincidence... When the spa didn't heat after the pump was replaced, Marvin came and said that the motherboard is burnt and needs replacing. He was able to find a replacement for $559 (he charges taxes on top of it, as you can see), plus service call fee of $205. Another good $815. I asked him if I can look online and maybe find it for cheaper. He wasn't happy, but said yes. I found the part! $330!!! I called him 3 times and left messages that I think I found the right part and wanted to check with him before I order, but he never returned my calls. The spa is fixed now! With the part I ordered online. Marvin doesn't charge 'just' $205 for a service call. Apparently he charges more like $450. Be aware. read more

They return calls on time. Tech showed up and told us there was no way to diagnose the leak without pulling the hot tub out. He said it would probably break and that we should live with it. The leak got worse. We had a tech from another company who diagnosed faulty seals around the pump. Flexible issue. read more

Ok -- where to start, I purchased a spa from Costco a couple of years ago and after about year of use it started to have a leak. I called the company that manufactured the spa and they put me in contact with Marvin at MG SPA. Here is where it all started- Marvin is not easy to talk to or communicate with when you call. He only takes calls between 8 am and 9:30am and usually does not answer so you have to leave a message that will usually not get responded to for 24 hours. When we finally spoke he told me he would be out to take a look. Marvin showed up on the day of our first appointment and walked over to the spa, opened it and said, "You need to drain it and dry it out so I can take a better look" - OK -- why that was not communicated to me on the phone call prior to coming out is a mystery but whatever so Marvin left - nothing done about the spa for the 1st trip. About a week goes by and Marvin comes back out this time with the spa empty and dry. We fill it up and he pulls all the panels off the sides of the spa to look better at the inside. He turns it on for about 30mins and monitors the spa for leaks. He then says to me, " Well looks like it might be fixed, I don't see any leaking you should keep an eye on it and let me know if you see it leaking and then left again. - NO FIX to the spa on site about 35mins total -- About another 30mins go by and I noticed that there was pudding under the pump and it was slowing getting bigger. I immediately called Marvin back, but being it was after 9:30 am got his voicemail -- Sigh -- I left another message saying that it had started leaking again at or around the pump area and he should turn around come back out and look to see where it was leaking from before it fills to much not to see. That would have been the logical thing to do... -- LOL - well not for Marvin -- 2 days later I get a call saying that he had called the company that made the Spa and asked them to send out a NEW Pump ??? -- Without ever really looking to see if it was really the pump that was leaking he was taking my word for it, someone that just tried to stick my head inside to see what I could see, I don't know what to look for I am NOT THE SPA PROFESSIONAL here .. Anyway -- So he asked me to drain it again and when he got the pump would be back to install. -- SIGH --So I drained it again, keep in mind that I live in California and we are in a drought and each and every time that I drain and re-fill its 300 gallons. -- After about two weeks this time Marvin comes back with the pump and installed it. He then fills the spa again and starts the pump. He says - "Ok -- On to other adventures!" -- He NEVER WAITS to see if its fully fixed. After he leaves about an hour later it starts leaking again so I call him again and this time he says ok -- Drain the spa again and Ill be out to jack it up and look inside. Keep in mind that this was the 1st time he said he would jack the SPA up to look inside?? Why did he NOT DO THIS THE 1st TIME OUT??? -- Sigh -- I drained it again and he arrived and jacked the spa up .. Filled it and found a small leak in the cooler box that he said was full of water and was causing the leak. I said to him that I don't think that's the problem.. He continued to say that because the water feature would fill the box when the spa was covered and was running. What I tried to tell him was that, the water feature is NOT ON WHEN I AM NOT IN THE SPA so there would have been NO way for it to fill the box. He did find a small pin hole at the top edge of the cooler box and preceded to NOT FIX it for some reason?? -- Anyway he put the SPA back on the ground empty and left. Again -- NOT CHECKING TO SEE IF IT IS TRULY FIXED!! -- Always in a RUSH Marvin is -- After about a week I finally filled it back up -- and would you guess that the LEAK WAS STILL THERE ??? -- I called the company that made the SPA instead and told them what happened, I was told by them that Marvin had called them and told them that the leak was FIXED?? -- REALLY -- OMG -- That makes me SOOO MAD -- I am still dealing with the leak but NOT DEALING WITH MARTIN and MG SPA's -- They are a waste of time and water = money -- Do yourself a BIG favor -- Steer clear of MG - SPA Marvin is always in a HUGE rush and never actually takes his time with a job, or at least that's how he makes his clients feel ... Marvin is one of the best contractors I have ever used for service for our house period!! He is so precise with his work, and always goes out of his way to make excellent recommendations that help in the long run. I have used his services 4 times over 10 years. He does a perfect job every time, including: 1) general consultation on ozone replacement choices 2) heater replacement 3) control board relay repair consultation (I sent to board out to a firm in southern CA) 4) sound reduction 5) water chemistry Marvin shows up when he says he will and just gets the job done. I gave Marvin a star for making an appointment and coming out to look at the spa for 10 minutes. I guess if it is not an easy fix he doesn't want to deal with it. He was the second repair person to come out. He said he needed to do some research and would get back to me. I told him the first guy blew me off and never came back. I asked him to please get back to me, and he assured me he would. Never heard from him again. I ended up trouble shooting and repaired the spa myself and I am not a repair man. read more

I called Marvin at MG Spas per a recommendation from a spa store. I was interested in trying to make my spa run more quietly. On the first visit Marvin tried to just reduce the vibration of the motor against the housing with some padding. It seemed to help at first but then went back to being pretty much the same. He had mentioned on the first visit that the motor was kind of overkill for a spa at 5HP when a 3HP would do. I noticed that the motor was so large in the space that it was vibrating against the tub and the housing and there wasn't room to move it away from either. So, on his second visit, I asked about changing the motor to a smaller one. He liked the idea and showed me one he had in the truck which was smaller so it would not be touching anything to vibrate against. He gave me a fair estimate and ordered it. When it came in, he brought it over, but it had the wrong type of impeller, so he had to order that part and come back again to install. We did have a couple of leak issues after that, but he came back and fixed them right away. However, we had issues with the brand new motor overheating from drawing too many amps. He had to get the manufacturer to replace it after showing them the meter readings. So, we had to wait for a new motor and he replaced it again (not his fault). Finally, my spa is running so much quieter now that I love it! I am also expecting the smaller motor to pay for itself over time with reduced electricity. Marvin was so tenacious in getting everything resolved and he didn't charge me anything extra for having to fix the extra issues. He really stuck with it and had a great attitude. read more

I used MG Spas (Marvin) for the past three years. I purchased a CAL Spa and the quality was horrible. I started having leaks right after the warranty expired (I guess the glue expired too). Marvin has fixed every leak and issue I have had. It is always been done on time with Factory parts. His prices are very reasonable. He even jacked up the spa to check for other leaks. I had another Spa guy fix a leak and he did it half ass. Marvin then came out and fixed it properly. If you have any spa issues, MG Spas is the only place to go. read more

I was referred to MG Spas by another guy for the repairs I needed. My spa has been in operation since 2005 and suffered a minor fire that damaged several jets and the ozonator. My principle complaint was that it seems Marvin did not want to do the job and it took nearly two months. It was a slow process of buy this then two weeks later buy that; i should note the items were just jets and a supercharger; all items that have low costs and are more of a pain to get especially when it takes two weeks to get him back out. I would have preferred to purchase all the parts and know that the process was complete on his second visit. After numerous visits my spa was put back together it ran for two days, after waiting several days for the silicone to cure, then the hoses began to come loose. I realized this around 2am one thursday morning, thankfully no further damage occurred. I did not call Marvin back. The spa hoses were being held in place by silicone, no hose clamps as was previously used. I ended up removing each hose and cleaning up the silicone then reapplying silicone and a hose clamp. I appreciated the jet replacement that was done but I did not appreciate the slow response nor the poor completion of the job. Marvin I strongly recommend hose clamps and when not interested in a job give a guy some advice and then move on. read more

He had to get at the plumbing through a small opening but he was able to fix my problem. He is a very nice guy and he showed up when he said he would.
