GREAT sandwiches but the price for one has almost reached the $20 mark. O understand inflation but it's been creeping up there for years.

Food by itself this place probably deserves 10 stars. So I'll start with the greatness of the French dip. French dip is my go to sandwich whenever I go. I've tried a couple other sandwiches, like the Down South and the Cajun turkey, which were also good but I know what my favorite is. Food always comes out hot and fresh as you watch them cut the meat right in front of you. Take out orders travel very well and the freshness still lasts by the time you make it to your destination. Now why 4 stars instead of 5, if it's the best hand carved sandwich I think I've had?? EXPENSIVE! It's delicious but it's a once in a while place I can go to. Normally you think going out to grab a lunch combo you'll spend between $8-$12. Nope. Get ready to spend $20, which isn't always what I'm trying to spend when running to grab lunch during the work day. Other than having to spend enough money for 2 meals, the parking isn't ideal. Since it's a very popular place, especially around lunch time, parking fills pretty quick. There are only about 7-8 spots in the lot, so be prepared to hope someone's leaving or park on the street/sidewalk. Long story short....you will not be disappointed by this place! read more

Not sure how I lived in DC for years, drove by this place several times and claim to be a self-proclaimed sandwich lover and never ate here but I'm glad that has changed. I think I judged the location since it's on a weird corner on Brentwood Ave across from a Post Office and next to an Auto Auction facility. I'm sure I just wrote it off as another sandwich place with processed meat. Boy was I wrong. I don't eat beef anymore so I tried a turkey sandwich which was awesome. It's awesome because it was carved from an actual roasted turkey sitting atop a carving board. It wasn't dry nor did it lack flavor. As a matter of fact, I really didn't need the sandwich fixins as the meat was good enough alone. If you are into beef, it looked and smelled amazing as it was also sitting atop a carving board & sliced for each sandwich as they were ordered. Only downside is parking is super scarce since it's oddly located. I'd suggest calling your order in or using Grubhub then bringing someone to run in and grab the food. It's a short block so by the time you circle, they should be ready to go. If you go earlier enough, and find parking, there is seating inside also. Stopped in to visit MGM roast beef on my lunch break. I did not have to wait long to order and everyone was friendly who worked there. I ordered the steak and cheese and it took about 10 minutes to prepare. The sandwich was pretty good and I would definitely order it again. The bread was softWith a crispy edge. The meat could've used a bit more seasoning but still was very tasty. Overall I'd say this is a great place to stop in to get a quick bite to eat on a lunch break. read more

Amazing. I have been wanting to go to MGM for a while but the hours make it a bit difficult. Anyways, I finally made my way! I had the Thanksgiving sandwich and it was out of this world. I was also surprised by the amount of seating inside. I have driven by this place a million times and for some reason deemed it a carry-out only spot. The setup is really fun inside. You can see them putting together your masterpiece and they have a fun counter to sit at along with ample seating in the back. Don't skip this place! Had the French Dip and it was top-shelf! Wish I grabbed a few salt packets, but really great roast beef (ALL their meats looked terrifically moist). I have passed this place a few times but never came in...until today. As I walked inside, I noticed that the diner is under construction but it wasn't noisy at all. I saw all of the signs of a great breakfast spot. Different socioeconomic classes sitting down together with police officers sprinkled in the mix. After not being particularly impressed by the lunch sandwiches at MGM Roast Beef, especially considering the price point, I think it's only fair to applaud them for their breakfasts. It's actually ironic that their breakfast can be considered a bargain. Walking in for breakfast, you really feel that whole neighborhood diner vibe taking shape. Folks sitting down amongst each other, chatting at random while catching up with the late breaking news on SportsCenter. Today, I was sitting next to an older gentleman having a conversation with someone on his left. The thing was, nobody was on his left. Well, nobody that anyone else other than him could see. He did talk to me about his travels, particularly in his role as the Emperor of Japan. It was a fascinating conversation with Emperor Darnell and definitely a lot better than being at work! The breakfast offerings include sandwiches (scrambled egg with choice of meat served on white, wheat or rye bread). First off, definitely a hearty portion size. The eggs are fluffy and my choice of meat (sausage) was tender, juicy and seasoned. Great way to start the day. The price for this wonderful creation? $3.49!!! The last time I paid $3.49 for something, I stole $5.00 from my dad's wallet, went to the neighborhood candy store and got a $hitload of treats to get a rush off of. The breakfast also features French Toast, Pancakes, Waffles, Eggs and Omelet platters, each of which are served with a choice of meat (bacon, sausage, ham) along with a choice of Creamed Grits or Home Fries. I've ordered the Waffle Platter, which came with sides of bacon and home fries. The waffle is massive! In addition to that, the texture is pretty balanced so that you get some fluffiness along with some crunch. That's the mark of a good waffle in my book. The bacon and home fries were seasoned and plentiful. How much is this platter of food? Well, let's consider that many parts of the DC area will charge one kidney and the rights to your first born. Due to the sad state of the American dollar, that roughly equates to a range of $10 - $16. At MGM? $5.95! Is there anything more to say? Yes! Go have some breakfast! read more

I tried the roast beef via Uber eats. It was a solid roast beef sandwich; nice bread and lots of roast beef. Perhaps a little too heavy on the mustard and a little light on the seasoning. You can tell its creator takes pride in it and any minor criticism aside, I wasn't in any way disappointed. But the best roast beef ever as some people have called it? I can't agree with that. It's just a very solid roast beef sandwich. I took an extra star off because their offer today said it included chips but they didn't actually provide chips (the Uber driver was confused about that, too). I think I found my new roast beef place. The meat is to die for. Moist and flavorful, the offer options of roast beef either medium rare or well done plus ham and turkey if you're not into beef. I would highly highly recommend the juicy roast beef though. It can get a little costly for a meal, but every penny spent is beyond worth it. I feel like you are tasting quality (plus it is huge in quantity too). The way it is situated is you start off in a line next to the counter, walk along as they offer you your choices and watch as they make it (think Subway line up) then pay for it. They have limited stool seating around the large counter where you can see them serve other patrons and talk communally with the other diners. They offer coke products and bottled drinks along with select chips. My only complaint is the location. It is a bit off where it is. It is sort of in the middle of the hood connected to a warehouse. The restaurant itself is nice and so are the bathrooms. If I didn't leave so far away, I could easily see myself venturing here once a week just for the food and the friendly staff that take care of you in the process. Seriously amazing! read more

It's been a while (almost a year), but MGM Roast Beef never disappoints! The prices have gone up, but I'm attributing it to the new extra space dining room addition. A NICE TOUCH! Take note of their new "signature sandwiches" and increased dessert (cake) offerings. A variety of hand carved salads are offered too! No complaints outside of the lack of available parking and business hours (which limit my visits). The food, service and music are always good!! Come and SEE what kind of hot meat you are getting because it's the star here. Their signature roast beef sandwich is consistently outstanding. I have yet to find a better one in DC. Try it with horseradish sauce or the fresh stuff. I can never finish it; it's generous. When we arrived at 10:00 am, we ordered roast beef but could not get roast beef according to our waitress Aloha, only during the week., she informed us, We scratched our heads "what is the name of this place again?". About 10-15 minutes later a couple comes in and orders a roast beef sandwich. And more come in. There is even a line & a man asking any one for lunch? I check my watch, it's 10:15am. I'm pissed. I came here for lunch when I was in the area for work. I was surprised at how modern this restaurant was as I thought it was more of a hole-in-the-wall. It was very clean, and I really liked the wall design (funky modern shapes with cows :D You could order to go or sit at the counter to sit down and eat. I upgraded to a combo so I had a side of fries and a soft drink (Pepsi products) . The fries were freshly fried and hand-cut. I also tried their Homemade Coleslaw which came in a generous bowl - it was creamy and crunchy. 'Karen' was my server and she was slightly unfriendly. There was another friendly lady (maybe one of the owners?) that came by who took the plates and gave me a refill - she was very sweet. I overheard one of the customers asking how much it was to purchase a whole turkey and a whole ham; the cashier stated that the turkey was $80, and the ham was $170 - wowzers!!! The place seemed to be really busy during the lunch rush and there seems to be a lot of locals and DC's finest. This is the place, as just about everybody says. There's no better beef at an accessible price in DC. There's diversity in the menu for those who don't care to just wallow in stupendous roast beef--I've even, for some reason I can't recall, brought home a tuna salad sandwich from MGM and it was great. Since the great crisis started, I've found them calm and collected even at their busiest, and beyond that, accommodating, friendly, and kind.
