Found this place on Urbanspoon, thought it would be a nice two hundred mile weekend road trip, I must say it was well worth it. This is a 50's/60's burger joint, it's all about cars, cars and cars. Now to the food, I had the Hot Rod Ford burger, very hot bbq sauce, onions & pickles, cheddar, bacon & jalapenos on a homemade bun, this is one GREAT burger. The wife had the Studebaker burger, Swiss, bacon, mayo, toms & lettuce on sourdough, also very good. We shared an order of onion rings, the BEST I have had in my 60 odd years on this earth, topped it off with a Dr Pepper. Order as you enter and have a seat, super service. We trusted the Yelp reviewers as we were passing through Sherman, and we were not disappointed! The retro gas station setup was fun, with outdoor dining available in front by the classic gas pumps and three different sections inside, each with their own vibe. The restrooms where well-lit and clean. I had the chef salad with honey mustard dressing, and it was the perfect size for lunch, complete with plenty of real bacon on top and a warm roll. My husband hand a burger, which was a generous hand-made patty on a toasted bun, quite tasty. We both had some of his fries, and they were very good, definitely several cuts above the norm. Ordering is at the counter when entering, but you won't have to get up again - wait staff stopped by our table four times during our brief lunch to check on us. We'd definitely stop by again when looking for a burger place that goes beyond the chains! read more

This is one of those places where you wish you could give half stars because it's not a 5 star but pretty close. All their food is great and their specials are really good. Only because waitresses were running around crazy looking for their numbers on the tables. Weird system where you wait in a long line to order and pay, get drinks they serve you, then they give you a trophy that has a number on it (the theme of the place is really a gas station vs a racing place like the old MG's). Theme seems off..So you watch as these poor girls run around frantic because they can't figure out the table system. What table is 23rd place sitting? So where do the salads go? Someone help them! They either need to work by section or have another non trophy system. Then you see them cleaning tables gathering bulky trophies along with the glassware, etc. Dare I mention all the germs on the trophies. Well, the customers also have to carry these gaudy trophies AND several drinks at the time of ordering. Surely there is a smoother way. Leave the trophy on the table and just replace the number? Use car keys instead of trophies? Some kind of stand that is easily seen? Something that cleans easy, recall that customers don't want to touch germy-stuff!-- Food is still good, staff is great, and new place is adorable! Someone please help them!! read more

We were passing through Sherman on way back to Fort Worth....my son wanted a burger for dinner. Checked reviews which were mostly positive, so we decided to try this place. Ordered a kid basket (burger) which is typically $3.95 and includes fries and drink (soda or shake). This is a great deal, but on Monday kids baskets are only $1 (when a regular basket is ordered). The kids burger was huge...with lots of natural cut fries (standard fries, but hey...you come here for the burgers I hear). I ordered the Mercedes basket (Swiss and bacon) with tots (you may have noticed I'm not a fries fan). My basket cost $8.50, which is a decent price. Burger was cooked well, made to order...veggies were fresh (just so ya know they shred lettuce...which I never understood for burgers...hard to keep it on the burger). Tots were crispy, albeit a tad greasy for me...but I'm sensitive to grease. Staff are young, but friendly and attentive. Good to great food and service . Overall, good experience. I gave the place 5 stars (instead of the 4 I was gonna give) because of staff going a little above and beyond (always a good thing) I changed my sons drink order from soda to shake and she gave us both at no extra cost. Solid burger joint for north of DFW. Got a variety for everybody's taste. Homemade buns make the burger and can't go wrong with their fried apps. Milkshakes are some of the best around and have homemade brownies and cakes for dessert. read more

A step back in time. Right out the 50's when muscle cars were king. Great jukebox and fun atmosphere. All that is missing is uniforms for the staff. It's 4:30 in the morning, and I haven't just returned from MG's. I have just had a new friend request and realized I've never written a review. Now, having been a campus wide famous restaurant reviewer in college, I'm very sure of my critique skills (these some 982 years later) so 4:30 AM is no unreasonable time to have a crack at MG's. I mean, we're talking MG's, Ladies and Gentlemen. 4:30 AM, the day after Armageddon is not an inappropriate time to discuss the mighty wonders of a hamburger from MG's. There IS no comparison, not here, not now, not beyond Armageddon, to the consistent perfection of an MG's hamburger. Whether yours is the Chevy, the Cadillac, the Pontiac, you know your burger because you ALWAYS order your burger (you try to get something different, just this once, but you drive your own beloved ride every single time...you know it) because, EVERY single time, it tastes in your mouth exactly like it tastes in your anticipation. How they maintain that exact consistency in quality from day to day, year to year, is a huge piece of the magic of that little time warp of a sandwich shop on Woods St. in neighborhood Sherman that every single resident of Our Town knows and loves as one of the secrets that makes ours a truly special place to live. SO...at 4:30 AM, here's to MG's...because I know for a fact, they'll be there tomorrow at 1:30 PM to make my Chevy and incredible fries, and give them to me with that beloved MG's friendly smile. Love the burger,dislike the fries(order the onion rings). Every-time I order them they are too under cooked and then the times they are cooked they don't taste great. Which as an established burger joint they really should have waaaay better fries. Service is good more often than not. Atmosphere is great.
