A nice owner and food in this simple little restaurant and store make it worth visiting. My favorite dish was the flan for dessert ($2.50). It was above-average flan, and I always like flan. I think the sauce was the best part of it, but I wish there was much more of it. Also, it was very large. While I finished it, with a little help, it was big enough for two I'd say. It was cold, as is common, but I think flan is better at room temperature so I would have microwaved it for a bit. I'd definitely get it again. My second-favorite dish was papusas ($8), at least after they cooled down. It was pleasant to good, so I might get it again but I also might try something else next time to see if I can find something I prefer. I liked my companion's torta (Mexican sandwich) less: pleasant, but it wouldn't be my choice next time there. We also got two sodas: a Mexican Coke (with sugar cane instead of corn syrup, so I wanted to try it), and a lime Jarritos. Neither were anything special. Two entrees, two drinks, a dessert, and tip came to $15. The bathroom, at the back of the store, was decent. The owner of this family-run restaurant was very friendly, a real benefit to the place. I do not eat meat and haven't had much on their menu but I can tell you that the beans and cheese pupusas are AMAZING! I order a side of fresh avocado on the side for an extra kick. A hole in the wall kind of place. The food was flavorful, generously portioned and priced reasonably. A typical mom and pop place, run by a charming El Savadorian couple serving fresh and scratch made food. It was so good my 7 year old son declared that we needed to come back again. As good as it gets for Mexican food. This is the authentic stuff here people. It's good to dine in and try all their hot sauces(3-4 of them.) I've had the carnitas plate and chicken tamales. I've also tried the pupusas with curtido and hot sauce and they are all good. They have lengua, chorizo, barbacoa, and pastor among others. That list is how you know it's authentic Mexican food. The pupusas are Salvadoran but the rest is Mexican. Please try this and demand more authentic places like this in the First Coast! read more

My husband had to drag me into this place because of what the outside looks like. It's in some run down shopping mall in what appears to be an old jiffy store. BUT I'm glad he forced me to ignore my apprehension. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and ready in maybe less than ten minutes. I got two chorizo tacos that came with rice and beans and the chorizo was just the right amount of spicy. My husband got the papusas and said they were good. Can I hear an Oh Yea for some great Papusas! A little restaurant tucked in a strip mall. Went for lunch and it looked like it was definitely a local place, run by a small committed family. That's a great thing cause if the locals are eating here then they've got to be doing something right. And "The Right Stuff" for us was their Salvadoran Papusas. They ROCKED!! We loved the mixed: beans, cheese, and pork, the cheese & bean were just as good, and the cheese was nothin' to complain about. Add the homemade pickled veggies and three levels of hot sauce makes these babies shine! All for $6.99, WOW! We'll be back next time we're visiting St. Augustine and maybe we'll try something else on the menu, but for sure we'll double our order of these yummy bundles of goodness. ;o) read more

I've only been here once, but I wouldn't change a thing about my experience. I was there on a Saturday in which they were closing at 3:00 for unknown and unannounced reasons, but fortunately I came at about 2:00 so I was able to eat peacefully in plenty of time. I put a high premium on places as laid back as this. Not that I don't like to get dressed up and go out to dinner every now and then, but I was playing softball nearby at Treaty Park so I looked and felt like a slob. I planned to grab some food and run before I caused a scene (through sight and/or smell), but the owner made me feel so comfortable and encouraged me to stay and eat. I'm glad I did as this place was the highlight of my short day trip to St. Augustine. I got two carnitas tacos with rice, beans, and a pineapple soda. What a combo... so good. I'd be a regular for sure if I lived in the area. Hopefully I'll get a chance to come back and try the pupusas. read more

We saw a review on Yelp saying the pupusas are like the kind made by someone's abuelita. We had to stop. The pupusas were excellent. I don't even like cabbage and I was loving the cabbage. The salsa's were delicious. We also ordered the fajitas and they were excellent. For dessert we ordered the fried plantains with cream. Perfect ending. Also the server was very nice and attentive. This place was the perfect stop for a late lunch. We tried the Pupusas ($3 each)with pickled cabbage, onion and carrot, the Biggest Burrito ($7.99) and one of the chicken, chorizo, and pork tacos ($5.99 for 3). Everything was fresh and delicious, which is exactly what we wanted, something homemade, a world away from all the fast food joints on the hwy. Carlos, the owner was very friendly and explained about the Pupusas, which we had not tried before, telling us they're a typical El Salvadorian dish. So so good! My new favourite thing. This is a must for St Augustine locals- best refried beans I have ever tasted-heaven! I usually order steak enchiladas or the mixed pupusas (yum!) . My husband loves the biggest burrito but beware, it is big! My kids get chicken or steak quesadillas and (I am not gonna lie) I always steal a piece- so good. My family and I were headed to Cantina Louie that happened to be closed when we got there. I looked up a different place and saw the pictures and reviews and my boyfriend is Salvadoran and saw the pupusas so we went straight there. It's not a huge restaurant and it's sort of hidden so you have to know where it is to find it. Everything we ordered is exactly our favorite dish. My mom ordered a Stuffed Poblano Pepper and she's super picky but she loved this one! My dad loves burritos and was very pleased with his. My niece and nephew both got one plate of chicken, rice, and beans and split which was perfect for both and they loved it. I got a Mexican Sausage Torta which is my favorite and I absolutely loved it! My boyfriend ordered another one for himself after he tried mine. We also got another order of pupusas to take back to the hotel. Don Carlos was super sweet and gave us a bit of history of the place and chatted with us for a while. On our last day at the beach, we called in an order of exactly everything we ate including the Pupusas for the way home. We got to the place a few minutes before they were closing bc we got lost and the traffic but they were super nice to wait for us til we got there with our order ready. We absolutely loved this place and we're definitely going back when we go to St. Augustine again!!! read more
